In this research, a study is made of the effect of the application of Pólya's problem-solving heuristic on the development of geometric skills and its impact on academic performance. In the intervention, the topic of angles was developed, to a section of 25 fourth grade high school students in an educational center in the Municipality of Yamasá of the Monte Plata Province in the Dominican Republic. A quasi-experimental type design with a quantitative approach and correlational scope was used, with a non-probabilistic sample, with an intact group and a pre-test and post-test design. The results show that, through Pólya's problem-solving heuristic, students expanded their skills in geometry that greatly increased learning about angles. Corroborated by a growth in the average of the grades from 62.4% that was obtained in the pre-test, to 83.7% that was reached in the post-test, showing statistically that there are significant differences. It stands out that the Pólya heuristic was highly valued by the students under study, therefore, it is believed that it had a positive influence on the benefit of their learning about angles. In addition, the results of the post-test reveal that there is no relationship between the sex of the group under study and the scores obtained when the Pólya heuristic is applied.

This descriptive-comparative research explored the level of grammar proficiency and sequencing skills in narrative writing of the Grade 7 students. Specifically, it sought to determine the significant difference in the level of grammar proficiency and sequencing skills. The 308 Grade 7 students selected through stratified proportional sampling answered the researcher-made instrument. The findings revealed that the students have a low level of grammar proficiency and average level in sequencing skills as a whole. Moreover, a significant difference exists in the level of grammar proficiency and the level of sequencing skills of students when grouped according to academic performance in English and track, while no significant difference exists when the students are classified according to sex. The results imply that students can sequence events in a narrative. However, they find difficulty in writing grammatically correct sentences. With this, instructional materials may be designed to develop the students’ proficiency in writing.

Engineering is a complex field of study.  Declining enrollment in engineering programs in the United States is of concern and understanding the various factors that contribute to this decline is in order.   Fostering a higher level of student engagement with the content may foster passion towards engineering which could increase academic competency as well as sustained interest in remaining in the profession.  This study examined the role of passion toward engineering content on students’ overall academic performance in an introductory course taught to university and high school students.  A pre-test, post-test, weekly surveys and periodic classroom observation measured levels of passion in the student, classmates, and professor. Mid-semester feedback prompted the professor to adjust his teaching for the purpose of infusing greater student passion towards the content. Results suggest that student passion in both settings fluctuated widely from week to week perhaps due to variable interest in the specific topic.  Overall, high school students’ level of passion remained more stable than that of university students and they performed better academically. Among university students, higher passion was not linked to higher academic performance.  Professor’s passion was highly valued by students though it did not increase their own passion.

The aim of this study was to investigate the chronical effects of static flexibility exercises on some biomotoric and physiological parameters in the students studying in sports high schools. A total of 130 high school students, 50 of whom were female and 80 of whom were male, who were studying at İncirliova Sports High School between 9th and 12th grades, with a mean age of 15.92±1.14, a mean sports age of 7.05±3.54, a mean body weight of 58.05±9.11 kilograms, and a mean height of 1.69±0.07 centimeters participated in the study. The participants were given training on static flexibility application with pre-tests. In order to determine the chronical effect, the participants were applied a series of tests including handgrip, sit and reach flexibility, 30 seconds push-up, static balance, vertical jump and back-leg strength tests before and after the 10-week application. The data obtained from the pre-test and post-test applications performed so as to determine the motoric characteristics of the students participating in the study was evaluated by SPSS 22.0 Package Program with a significance level of 0.05 in the 95% confidence interval. Whether the data showed normal distribution was tested by Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test. Paired Sample T-test was used to test the significance of the difference between the arithmetic means of the two related groups. The frequency distributions of the students were determined in terms of gender and class levels. The minimum, maximum, mean, standard deviation and median values of the students were calculated in terms of age (year), sports age (year), body weight (kg), length (cm), and Body Mass Index (BMI). It was found that there were significant differences between the pre-test and post-test results applied to determine the motoric characteristics of the students (p<0.05). It was revealed that the post-test results of the students in terms of sit and reach flexibility and static balance performances were better than their related pre-test results. However, no significant differences were found between the pre-test and post-test results of the students in terms of back-leg strength, handgrip, push-up and vertical jump performances (p>0.05).It was determined that the 10-week static flexibility training (protocol) given to sports high school students before applied sports classes had positive effects on some biomotoric and physiological parameters.
