The sample consisted of 121 respondents from fifth and sixth-grade elementary schools from the City of Zadar. A research was conducted to determine the differences between students who, in addition to physical education and health education, also attend some other form of extracurricular sports activity. By conducting a descriptive analysis, we obtained results that show us that male students engaged in extracurricular activity achieved 21.28% better average results than respondents who do not engage in extracurricular activities. Female respondents engaged in extracurricular activities achieved 9.16% better results than respondents who did not engage in extracurricular activities (better scores in the test to assess functional ability (F6 test)). Using the t-test, we found that empirical levels of significance were statistically significant (p = 0.000) for all respondents in both sexes in functional abilities (F6 test). The authors can claim that students attending some forms of extracurricular sports activity have a better score in the variable F6. By performing regression analysis, authors cannot predict the result in the F6 test based on anthropometric characteristics of body height (TV) and body weight (TT). To improve the functional abilities of students, each teacher should encourage them to attend some additional forms of extracurricular sports activities in the form of improving the overall anthropological status.

Studies of Black students’ schooling experiences and educational outcomes have consistently shown that compared to their peers, they – especially males – tend to underperform academically, be more athletically engaged, and be streamed into non-academic educational programs. These studies tend to focus on high school students, but what of middle school students: is the situation any different? Using a combination of critical race theory and positioning theory, this article presents the results of a 2018 focus group of middle school male students residing in an outer suburb of the Greater Toronto Area. The findings reveal how the nine participants positioned themselves, and were positioned by their teachers, for an education that would enable them to enter high school and become academically successful. Some participants felt that teachers had constructs of them as underperformers, athletes, and troublemakers; others believed teachers saw them as ‘regular students’ and treated them accordingly by supporting their academic and extracurricular activities. How these students read educators’ perceptions of them informed their positioning responses: some adjusted and others resisted. Our findings highlight the urgent need to support Black students in culturally relevant ways during the transition schooling years so that they enter high school ready to meet the social, academic, and pedagogical challenges they will face, graduate, and realize their post high school ambitions.

Research background and hypothesis. Extra-curricular activities are concurrent with personality development, often  named  as  assumption  to  pro-social  behaviour  and  analysed  considering  value  orientation.  The  following hypothesis was set in the study: indexes of expression of pro-social behaviour and value orientation were more characteristic of students involved in extra-curricular activities in comparison with non-active (after school) students. Type of extra-curricular activities was included in the analysis.Research  aim. The aim of the study was to analyse relationships between students’ participation in extra-curricular activities and expression of pro-social behaviour as well as their value orientation. Research methods. The sample consisted of 179 students (82 girls and 97 boys) at the age of 16–18 years. Written survey was applied for the research. The participants completed the Pro-social Tendencies Measure (Carlo et al., 2003) and S. H. Schwartz’s (1992) value orientation methodology. Participation in extra-curricular activities was assessed by asking question with a detailed list of structured activities.Research  results.  Results  of  the  study  revealed  that  there  were  no  links  between  students’  participation  in extra-curricular activities and pro-social behaviour. However, it was determined that public assistance was more characteristic of students participating in artistic extra-curricular activities in comparison to students that attended sports  activities  after  school. The  same  situation  was  with  value  orientation:  there  was  absence  of  correlations between students’ participation in extra-curricular activities and value orientation, but significant differences related to the type of extra-curricular activities were found. Self-transcendence was more important to students that attended artistic extra-curricular activities in comparison with students participating in sports activities after school.Discussion and conclusion. Tendencies of results of this research are comparable to those in other scientific studies.  Studies  that  examined  participation  in  extra-curricular  activities  and  value  orientations  of  interfaces  in Lithuania are still missing. Keywords: value orientation, students’ participation in extra-curricular activities, pro-social behaviour.

Mobile augmented reality (MAR) draws attention in terms of providing a flexible learning process and environment. It is thought that learning environments can be more effective using MAR technology. The research aimed to determine the secondary school students' views on the use of MAR technology in science teaching. The research was conducted with 143 students studying in the sixth grade at two different secondary schools in Turkey. In the research, convergent parallel patterns from mixed-method patterns were used. For eight weeks, the research was carried out to cover the systems unit in our body, situated in the 6th-grade science course curriculum. During the process, the Anatomy 4D application was used in the experimental group during the procedure, and the science course curriculum was used in the control group.  In this paper, a part of the mixed research, the qualitative data collected from the experimental group's semi-structured interview form and diaries were analyzed. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze the data. As a result of the research, although the students do not have a clear idea about AR and MAR technologies at the beginning of the application, it is observed that their thoughts change over time, and MAR applications are effective on the success of the course.

AIM: The main aim of this study was to examine differences in sport participation motives, the frequency of engaging in sports activities according to gender, region and field of study, but also the association between the incidence of engaging in sports activity and the motivation for sports activity of students at the University of Ljubljana.MATERIAL AND METHODS: Five thousand two hundred seventy-one students completed The Exercise Motivations Inventory (EMI-2), with additional questions about 12 socio-demographic parameters.RESULTS: The results reveal that most of the students are engaged in unorganized sports activities. Male students engage in sports activity more often than female students do. For male students, dominant participation motives are enjoyment, challenge, social recognition, affiliation, competition and strength but also endurance, for female students these are: stress and weight management, revitalisation, ill-health avoidance, positive health, appearance and nimbleness. Gender differences in participation motives are partly reflected also in differences according to the field of study. The correlations between the frequency of engaging in sports activity and the participation motives are mainly statistically significant. We did not find any significant differences in participation motives by region.CONCLUSION: In spite of these discouraging findings, increasing physical activity among students continues to be a national priority.m

Currently, many countries actively cultivate students to develop computational thinking ability. Many visual programming environments (VPEs) and physical robot courses have been integrated into computational thinking learning in the elementary education stage. This study explores the relationship between the programming learning environment (including VPE, physical robots, and no experience) and the computational thinking ability of higher-grade elementary school students of different genders. The results show that learning through VPE or physical robots can help students improve their computational thinking ability and that students learn better via physical robots. In addition, among the four dimensions of computational thinking ability, most students are weak in algorithm design. In terms of gender, no differences exist in computational thinking ability. Further analysis reveals that female students have better decomposition performance in VPE learning, while male students have better algorithm design performance.

Abstract. The objective of the present study was to analyse perceptions of personal engagement in physical activity in sixth-grade primary school students, and to compare them with the perception of their physical education (PE) teachers. A representative sample of 329 sixth graders (aged 11-12 years old) from 31 educational centres in Logroño (La Rioja) completed the Physical Activity Questionnaire for Older Children. In addition, a PE teacher from each educational centre completed the same questionnaire, self-reporting their perceptions of physical activity with regards to the boys and girls attending their centre. Screen-time was also reported. Boys engaged in significantly more physical activity than girls, specifically during PE classes, during break-times, and at weekends. Teachers corroborated these reports in the case of the latter two contexts. Differences existed between the perceptions reported by the teachers and male students. On one hand the teachers overestimated physical activity engagement of their male students before and after eating, on the other they underestimated their physical activity at weekends. Teacher reports also differed from those of female students, with teachers underestimating their physical activity both at weekends and overall throughout the week. Finally, with respect to screen-time, no differences were reported between genders, but teachers overestimated this variable for both male and female students. Given the differences identified, it is important to analyse the habits of young scholars, understand them and, in this way, design efficacious interventions, particularly utilising schools as key providers in the promotion of health.
