The territory of Armenia, although relatively small, is geologically and tectonically complex. Its complexity is not only due to a dense network of faults. It results from a complicated history of tectonic development including several phases of mountain formation and planation, and the extensive development of fold-block, tectonic and magmatic processes. An important scientific task is identification of earthquake-prone structural blocks by analysing seismotectonic data on geotectonic zones in Armenia. This article describes the seismotectonic analysis of geological and geophysical data on the Viraayots-Karabakh zone.We used a wide spectrum of modern tectonic-geomorphological indices and GIS technologies in order to assess the neotectonic (Neogene – Quaternary) activity of the main block units of the study area and to classify the block units by their tectonic activity levels. Tectonics of the study area is contrasting, and many tectonically active blocks are in the immediate neighbourhood with passive blocks.Based on the records of seismic events of various magnitudes and historic earthquake data, we analysed modern seismicity of the block units. For each block, a quantitative analysis of its total seismic energy release was performed, and relationships between the released seismic energy values and the number of recorded earthquakes were analyzed. Based on such analysis, we identify a group of blocks wherein the total released seismic energy values are high, but the numbers of seismic events recorded in these blocks are rather limited. In the context of block tectonic activity, analysing these data makes it possible to detect the blocks with the highest probability of the occurrence of strong earthquakes.

Modern detailed stratigraphical studies have demonstrated very clearly the long and involved tectonic history of the majority of the main structural units of England. It has been proved that, in certain areas, the thickness and the lithology of the sediments were partly determined by repeated pene-contemporaneous folding along definite axes, and thus it has been possible to trace the gradual growth of some of the main fold lines of the country. The Weald is typical of these areas, whose structure, at first sight simple enough, reveals on closer study much complexity of the minor folding and faulting and also gives evidence of long continued movement along certain lines; movement contemporaneous with the deposition of beds which were involved in the final crescendo of tectonic activity.

The article is devoted to the main patterns of tectonic development in the Middle Ob for the period from the tops of the middle Jurassic to the Eocene. It is shown that during this period of time in the tectonic development of the territory there were periods of quiet sedimentation and very active tectonic activity. In the history of the tectonic development of the Middle Ob four major stages are distinguished: two is quiet (the Jurassic and the Upper Cretaceous) and two are very active with large-scale multidirectional movements that led to a significant increase in the amplitudes of the structures (from the Cretaceous to the roof of the Cenomanian century).The article describes the methodology of the correlation analysis used in the study of the history of tectonic development in the territory.

Doxorubicin, a member of the anthracycline family, is a common anticancer agent often used as a first line treatment for the wide spectrum of cancers. Doxorubicin-based chemotherapy, although effective, is associated with serious side effects, such as irreversible cardiotoxicity or nephrotoxicity. Those often life-threatening adverse risks, responsible for the elongation of the patients’ recuperation period and increasing medical expenses, have prompted the need for creating novel and safer drug delivery systems. Among many proposed concepts, polymeric nanocarriers are shown to be a promising approach, allowing for controlled and selective drug delivery, simultaneously enhancing its activity towards cancerous cells and reducing toxic effects on healthy tissues. This article is a chronological examination of the history of the work progress on polymeric nanostructures, designed as efficient doxorubicin nanocarriers, with the emphasis on the main achievements of 2010–2020. Numerous publications have been reviewed to provide an essential summation of the nanopolymer types and their essential properties, mechanisms towards efficient drug delivery, as well as active targeting stimuli-responsive strategies that are currently utilized in the doxorubicin transportation field.

The West Siberian Basin (WSB) is one of the largest intracratonic Meso-Cenozoic basins in the world. Its evolution has been studied over the recent decades; however, some fundamental questions regarding the tectonic evolution of the WSB remain unresolved or unconfirmed by analytical data. A complete understanding of the evolution of the WSB during the Mesozoic and Cenozoic eras requires insights into the cooling history of the basement rocks as determined by low-temperature thermochronometry. We presented an apatite fission track (AFT) thermochronology study on the exposed parts of the WSB basement in order to distinguish tectonic activation episodes in an absolute timeframe. AFT dating of thirteen basement samples mainly yielded Cretaceous cooling ages and mean track lengths varied between 12.8 and 14.5 μm. Thermal history modeling based on the AFT data demonstrates several Mesozoic and Cenozoic intracontinental tectonic reactivation episodes affected the WSB basement. We interpreted the episodes of tectonic activity accompanied by the WSB basement exhumation as a far-field effect from tectonic processes acting on the southern and eastern boundaries of Eurasia during the Mesozoic–Cenozoic eras.

ABSTRACT Palynological results of a detailed study carried out on 56 samples retrieved from two selected wells (GH 404-2A and SA-E6A) of the Hilal and Shoab Ali fields within the southern part of the Gulf of Suez, Egypt, are presented. This study is mainly focused on the poorly dated Nukhul Formation, for which very little information from palynology is available despite its importance from a petroleum viewpoint. The assemblages discovered in our study are moderately preserved and reveal a sparse but significant record of spores and pollen and dinoflagellates together with highly diverse fungi and algal taxa, e.g. Botryococcus and Pediastrum. A latest Oligocene–Early Miocene (Chattian–Aquitanian) age has been suggested for the Nukhul Formation, based on compiling palynostratigraphic and ecologic data obtained from palynomorphs that have previously been assumed to be representatives for this period on a regional scale. In addition, the Oligocene/Miocene Boundary (OMB) could be lithostratigraphically defined within the studied formation, most likely at the boundary between the lower Shoab Ali Member and upper Ghara Member. A fungal/algal ‘event’ within the interval from 11,370–11,430 ft in the GH 404-2A Well may be associated with a strong regressive phase. Such a regression was previously observed in the Nile Delta and other locations around the Red Sea province, and may be assigned to the global Mi-1 glaciation event at the OMB. However, not only glacial-driven eustacy but also tectonic activity related to the Gulf of Suez rifting may have contributed in forming such an event. Palynofacies investigations were carried out under both transmitted and fluorescence microscopy and the results were partly supplemented by existing organic geochemical analyses (GH 404-2A Well) involving Rock-Eval pyrolysis and total organic carbon (TOC) measurements. The analysis was used to interpret the depositional regime, paleoenvironment and thermal maturation history of the studied succession. These results support the temporary existence of shallow, pond- or lake-like aquatic habitats during deposition of the lower Shoab Ali Member that evolved into a shallow-marine environment with the onset of the deposition of upper Ghara Member of the Nukhul Formation.

The present contribution describes the method of work, the types of source materia] used, and the historio- graphical and historico-eismic tradition of Armenia. The catalogue' s territorial frame of reference is that of socalled historical Armenia (which included part of present Eastern Turkey, and part of present Azerbaijan). The sources belong to different languages and cultures: Armenian, Syriac, Greek, Arab, Persian and Georgian. A comparison of the local sources with those belonging to other cultures enab]es the historical and seismological I"adition of the Mediterl'anean to be "linked" with that of the Iranian p]ateau, traditionally considered as two separate areas. We analyzed historical events listed in the most recent catalogues of earthquakes in the Armenian area compiled by Kondorskaya and Shebalin (1982) and Karapetian (1991). Important and valuable though these catalogues are, they are in need of revision. We found evidence for six hitherto unrecorded seismic events. Numerous errors of dating and location have been corrected, and several new localities and seismic effects have been evidenced. Each modification of the previous catalogues has been documented on the hasis of the historiographical and literary sources and the data from the written sources have been linked with those concerning the history of Armenian cities and architecture (monasteries, churches, episcopal complexes). On the whole. the revised earthquakes seem underestimated in the previous catalogues. The aim of this catalogue is to make a contribution to the knowledge of historical seismicity in Armenia, and at the same time to underline the specific nature of the Armenian case, thus avoiding a procedure which has generally tended to place this area in a marginal position, within the wider field of other research on historical earthquakes.

Abstract Large evaporite provinces (LEPs) represent prodigious volumes of evaporites widely developed from the Sinian to Neogene. The reasons why they often quickly develop on a large scale with large areas and thicknesses remain enigmatic. Possible causes range from warming from above to heating from below. The fact that the salt deposits in most salt-bearing basins occur mainly in the Sinian-Cambrian, Permian-Triassic, Jurassic-Cretaceous, and Miocene intervals favours a dominantly tectonic origin rather than a solar driving mechanism. Here, we analysed the spatio-temporal distribution of evaporites based on 138 evaporitic basins and found that throughout the Phanerozoiceon, LEPs occurred across the Earth’s surface in most salt-bearing basins, especially in areas with an evolutionary history of strong tectonic activity. The masses of evaporites, rates of evaporite formation, tectonic movements, and large igneous provinces (LIPs) synergistically developed in the Sinian-Cambrian, Permian, Jurassic-Cretaceous, and Miocene intervals, which are considered to be four of the warmest times since the Sinian. We realize that salt accumulation can proceed without solar energy and can generally be linked to geothermal changes in tectonically active zones. When climatic factors are involved, they may be manifestations of the thermal influence of the crust on the surface.

Kota Baru is the satellite city of Bandar Lampung. The city is prepared for the expansion of the city of Bandar Lampung. Zonation map of earthquake risk is required for Kota Baru due to its location within the reach of earthquake energy of Semangko subduction fault. In this study, we model the earthquake-prone zone map based on the soil characteristics (site effect) combined with the underground layer model to get a detailed description of the horizontal and vertical soil character. The microtremor method is performed to obtain the zonation effect mapping. Whereas, the ground layer modeling is obtained using the geoelectrical method. The modeling results show that the study area is far from tectonic activity based on the history of past earthquake events. However, this area has a large sediment thickness and has a low dominant frequency value, so it is an area that is vulnerable to earthquakes

Background: Sport has been identified as one of the 7 best investments for increasing physical activity levels across the life span. Several questions remain on how to effectively utilize youth sport as a strategy for increasing physical activity and improving health in youth. The purpose of this paper is to identify the main research priorities in the areas of youth sport and physical activity for health. Methods: An international expert panel was convened, selected to cover a wide spectrum of topics related to youth sport. The group developed a draft set of potential research priorities, and relevant research was scoped. Through an iterative process, the group reached consensus on the top 10 research priorities. Results: The 10 research priorities were identified related to sport participation rates, physical activity from sport, the contribution of sport to health, and the overall return on investment from youth sport. For each research priority, the current evidence is summarized, key research gaps are noted, and immediate research needs are suggested. Conclusion: The identified research priorities are intended to guide researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to increase the evidence base on which to base the design, delivery, and policies of youth sport programs to deliver health benefits.

Abstract Strong earthquake of M6.4 stroke Petrinja and neighbouring cities of Sisak and Glina in Croatia on December 29th 2020. It was preceded by two foreshocks of M5.2 and M5.0, and followed by a series of aftershocks of various magnitudes and intensities. We have analysed first 500 earthquakes and aftershocks of > M1.0 which occurred from December 28th 2020 to January 19th 2021, their frequency, focal depths, and coseismic surface phenomena. Correlation of focal depths revealed the source of earthquakes was faulting of hanging wall of a listric normal fault with NW-SE strike and dip towards NE. Major fault seems to have caused earthquakes with only minor magnitudes. The strongest two earthquakes of M6.4 and M5.2 were initiated on synthetic fault, whereas M5.0 earthquake was initiated on an antithetic fault. Almost 50% of all seismic energy of the first 500 analysed seismic events over M1.0 was released on 1 km and 10 km deep hypocentres. Focal mechanisms of major earthquakes and strong fore- and aftershocks indicate dextral-slip mechanism, which is also in accordance with the orientation of surface cracks, land faulting and sand volcano trains. Co-seismic surface phenomena are land cracks and fissures, land faults, sand volcanoes, eruptive springing of ground water, activation of landslides, and formation of dozens of collapse sinkholes which continued to form and grow for about a month following the major earthquake.
