The manufacturers' position in today's increasingly competitive market is very challenging, as shown by the fact that each product has its substitute from other manufacturers. Consumers benefit from competition since it allows them to select the product from the most suitable manufacturer while also raising the issue of whether the product substitute is better or worse than the product to which the customer is accustomed. In such a situation, the manufacturers' position in the market is unenviable because they are forced to cater to each customer's needs and continuously monitor their competitors. The above issues can be resolved by direct communication with customers. The fact that the manufacturers must place their products in the domestic market mainly through intermediaries, i.e. retailers and in the international markets through wholesalers and retailers, makes their business operations much more difficult. The already complicated way of doing business must not be viewed as a mere sale; instead, it can be enhanced by utilizing the sales chain (manufacturer, wholesaler, retailer, consumer) for the flow of information in the opposite direction (consumer, retailer, wholesaler, manufacturer), to retain consumers and increase product sales. We can use the sales chain for the information flow from the market if everybody involved in it feels the need for good, reliable, and quality information that will be adopted by the manufacturer and all sale participants, with an overarching goal to increase profits.

This chapter assesses the suitability of mobile phone technology, an established technology (humanitarian), to support humanitarian operations, create an inventory of support donations, and track the needs of people throughout humanitarian logistics after the disaster. The main objective is to reduce the exposure to the consequences of disasters by reducing the time of information flow through SMS interaction technology. Quebrada Quirio was used as a prototype. The process consists of using the INDECI rapid assessment visit to collect basic data, including a telephone number, of the people affected by the disaster, and based on this information, multiple initiatives aligned with the optimization of the flow of information were created.

This article introduces a new method to discover the role of influential people in online social networks and presents an algorithm that recognizes influential users to reach a target in the network, in order to provide a strategic advantage for organizations to direct the scope of their digital marketing strategies. Social links among friends play an important role in dictating their behavior in online social networks, these social links determine the flow of information in form of wall posts via shares, likes, re-tweets, mentions, etc., which determines the influence of a node. This article initially identities the correlated nodes in large data sets using customized divide-and-conquer algorithm and then measures the influence of each of these nodes using a linear function. Furthermore, the empirical results show that users who have the highest influence are those whose total number of friends are closer to the total number of friends of each node divided by the total number of nodes in the network.

A Design Repository has been created in an effort to archive existing products and the components in each product. With this function-based archiving system, designers can retrieve design information on existing products to assist in a new design project. The use of product families has emerged as an approach to exploit commonality for more efficient product development. However, the Design Repository does not contain explicit design information on platforms and modules. This paper describes information for the design of a platform and proposes a new data structure that organizes the information for augmenting the Design Repository. An information flow model for the development of a single product is modified to describe the flow of information needed for product platform design. The information flow model and associated data structure has been shown to be effective in representing three common product families: the Black & Decker Firestorm tool set, Kodak single-use cameras, and the IceDozer family of ice scrapers. With this data structure implemented into the existing repository, designers can find useful information on how to create different products based on the a common platform.

Abstract Every business can benefit from reduction of its losses due to corrosion. Awareness of all possible sources of such losses is essential. Unnecessary acceptance of losses is common from chronic corrosion which is tolerated as established custom, and from hidden or indirect effects of corrosion. The importance of corrosion damage is not always proportional to the volume of metal affected. The functional aspects of corrosion are listed. Analysis is made of the ways in which corrosion enters into the cost of doing business. Explanations are given of the direct and indirect ways corrosion may effect capital investment, operating costs, product sales, maintenance costs, overhead costs and market competitive condition of and company.
