The objective of this work is to analyse British consumer preferences towards five varieties of mandarins (two of them from Spain) under three different information conditions: visual inspection, peeling and consumption. Therefore, the paper deals with the purchase process from two perspectives: before and after experiencing the product and considering both search and experience attributes. Besides, it is intended to study the market possibilities of the Spanish varieties in British market. The research employed the second price Vickrey experimental auction method using two treatments applied to different subgroups of the total sample. Half of the groups evaluated the fruit characteristics at each stage of the experimental process before making the auction bids while the other half of the groups offered bids without giving an evaluation of the fruit. Main results are: (1) significant changes in evaluation and willingness to pay for mandarins as consumer move forward the purchase-consumption process, (2) both experimental groups behaved similarly, (3) juiciness, sweetness and acidity are the attributes most closely correlated with the overall evaluation of the different varieties, (4) Spanish varieties are well evaluated, but only after consumption. The main recommendation for Spanish citrus producer is to find a way to communicate Spanish mandarin excellence in some search attributes, which cannot be evaluated by visual inspection, but are significant at post-purchase valuation.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine how the number of activities within a multi-activity experience influences consumer preferences before and after consumption. Design/methodology/approach The hypotheses are tested using four experiments and a secondary data set from a river cruise firm that includes first-time river cruise purchases by consumers from this firm between January 2011 and December 2015 (n = 337,457). Findings Consumers prefer experiences with fewer (vs more) activities before consumption – a phenomenon, this paper calls “activity apprehension” – but prefer experiences with more (vs fewer) activities after consumption. A mediation analysis indicates that this phenomenon occurs because the highly perishable nature of activities makes consumers uncertain about their ability to use all the activities within the experience (usage uncertainty). Practical implications Evaluations of a multi-activity experience depend on both the number of activities and on whether the consumer is at the pre- or post-consumption stage of the customer journey. As such, firms looking to sell multi-activity experiences should design and promote these experiences in a way that minimizes activity apprehension. Originality/value This study is the first to demonstrate that consumer perceptions of an optimal experience depend on both the number of included activities and on the stage of the customer journey (i.e. pre- or post-purchase). It further contributes to the consumer experience literature by examining an unexplored activity characteristic, perishability, in shaping experiential purchase decisions. Finally, it demonstrates a new way in which experiential purchases differ from tangible product purchases.

Vocabulary considered one of the important things to learn for students, the vocabulary is basic thing that students must be mastered in foreign language lessons, especially in English. Without vocabulary students will have difficulty in mastering skills in English such as writing, reading, listening and speaking.  Therefore, it is very important to find out the solution to enhance students’ vocabulary. The objective of the research is to find out whether or not using Jumbled letters can improve the students vocabulary of the tenth grade students in MAN 2 Barru and to find out whether or not using Crossword puzzle can improve the students vocabulary of the tenth grade students in MAN 2 Barru. This research applied quasi-experimental group design with two groups experimental and control class. The population of this research was the tenth grade students of MAN 2 Barru in academic year 2018/2019. The Total sample of the research was taken by using clustering random sampling which consisted of 141 students. From two classes taken from the population of the tenth grade students of MAN 2 Barru, X MIA 1 as the experimental class consisted 29 students and X MIA 3 as the control class that consisted 29 students. The result of the data analysis showed that there was a significant difference of students’ vocabulary before and after teaching vocabulary through jumbled word letters. The value of t-test pre-test 2.09 was higher than t-table 2.000, and the value of post-test 4.62 was higher than t-table 2.000, at the level significance a =0.05 and degree of freedom (df) = 56. It can be concluded that jumbled word letters can enhance the vocabulary of the tenth grade students’ of MAN 2 Barru

The current sanitary crisis due to COVID-19 has further evidenced the enormous digital exclusion of older adults. Furthermore, the crisis has urged older adults to adopt new technologies to facilitate their tasks, as well as to provide them with an effective means against loneliness and social isolation caused by the confinement. In light of this, Digital Literacy is necessary for all those excluded from the digital era, who are characterized mainly by little or no ability to effectively use technologies. Nevertheless, detailed studies showing the leap from mixed (Blended Learning, BL) to digital literacy in the elderly have not been published. The objective of the present research was to analyze the level of Digital Literacy with the Digital Literacy Evaluation (DILE) of two groups of elderly adults with different levels of literacy (Group 1: G1, and Group 2: G2) during three stages: BL (Aug–Dec 2019); Transition (Feb–Jun 2020); and Digital (Aug–Dec 2020). Comparisons were made before each educational level (pre-pre-pre) and after each educational level (post-post-post) and during consecutive periods before and after each semester (pre vs post) and throughout different educational levels (G1: Basic 1, B1; Basic 2, B2; and intermediate 1, I1; and G2: Intermediate 1 to 3, I1, I2, and I3). Subsequently, considering all the elderly who had passed at least one of the literacy levels, we worked with a total sample of 176 older adults. The comparisons showed that, before the pandemic, G1’s pre digital literacy levels increased between B1 and B2 and that the differences continued with that increasing trend between the B1 level and the I1 completely digital treatment, and the same was observed for post measurements. On the other hand, for the G2, the differences in the DILE were statistically significant between the pre-condition of I2 (before the pandemic) and the I3 (completely digital treatment); and between the pre-conditions of I1 and I3; the same results were obtained for post treatments. Also, pre vs post scores on the DILE were statistically significant and older adults increased progressively their digital literacy despite the COVID-19 pandemic and jumped to the digital age.

The demand for sustainable and healthy food is increasing. Therefore, it is necessary to find new sources of functional ingredients for design of novel food products. Microalgae are reliable sources of functional ingredients, ready for exploitation with purpose of production of human food. This work explores consumers’ acceptance of novel foods based on microalgae. To achieve natural and realistic eating location, sensory analysis was conducted in a real restaurant in Universitat Politècnica de València. A check-all-that-apply questionnaire and hedonic scale registered the consumers’ expectations ( N = 85), perceptions and acceptance, before and after taste of typical Valencian breadsticks. Food neophobia can affect acceptability of novel foods, thus, participants completed a test designed to measure their attitudes towards new food. Microalgae breadsticks have distinctive characteristics compared to control breadsticks, such as colour, flavour and odour, because of microalgae presence. Still, those breadsticks were as acceptable as the control breadsticks according to the consumer preferences. Consumers expected more differences amongst both breadsticks before tasting, but they lowered the differences in perception after trying them. Consumers consider that the product is healthier, and they would understand if it had greater expense. We believe this information can be useful for selling / marketing this novel product.

Background: Accurate blood pressure (BP) measurement is a constant challenge, particularly in intensive care units. Thus, studies focusing on avoiding errors in practices of measuring BP are important to patient safety. The objective was to assess the effects of an educational intervention addressing BP measurement, targeting the theoretical and practical knowledge of nurses from a cardiac unit. Methods: This quasi-experimental, before-and-after, study was conducted in a large tertiary hospital in Brazil and included all nurses working in that unit (31 nurses, 86.1%). Data were collected through two types of assessments: practical and theoretical knowledge of the technique, before-and-after the educational intervention that involved simulation as a teaching strategy. A validated checklist was used for both assessments. Results: Most participants were female (64.5%), with an average age of 33.1 years old. Considerable improvement was observed in theoretical and practical knowledge concerning the steps used for BP measurement (p < .05). Considering the total sample, nurses complied with all steps of the BP measurement after educational intervention and the results were considered statistically significant (p < .05).Conclusions: The educational intervention improved the knowledge of nurses, which may contribute to safer healthcare delivery and error-free BP measurements.

E-commerce provides a global platform supporting product transactions through the consumer purchase lifecycle including communications of perceived satisfaction and dissatisfaction. The customer feedback functions and social networks of many e-commerce websites allow for the creation of extremely large databases that can be mined to model the customers' perceptions toward online purchases. This research uses online customer reviews as the business intelligence corpus to help companies redesign products that better satisfy consumer preferences and differentiate their product offerings. After identifying the specific webpages of customer reviews, a web crawler collects review text. Computer-supported text mining, cluster analysis, and perceptual mapping are combined as a systematic analytic approach to compare products in a given domain. The study assists phone manufacturers to understand the positive and negative perceptions of customers related to their post-purchase experiences. The customer-preferred product functions, features, and price positions provide valuable strategic intelligence for new product designs and market differentiation.

Background: Cleanliness of tourist area is managers and visitors responsibilities to maintain the beauty of tourist destinations. Disposing of trash in its place becomes very important in maintaining the cleanliness of tourist sites. The role of health promotion media to improve awareness and behavior of tourist in maintaining cleanliness is necessary to be conducted. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of providing garbage disposal posters towards the utilising trash bin in tourist sites.Method: This study employs a quantitative method with a quasy experimental approach, non randomized control group pretest posttest design. It was carried out in four tourist sites which consist of two tourist sites as intervention area and the others as control. Sample of this study was consisted of 15 bins/each site which met the criteria of sanitation standards and selected purposively so that the total sample was 30 bins in the intervention and 30 bins in the control areas. The variables included the volume of waste in each trash bin, the quality of trash bin distributed and the number of visitors before and after intervention. Measurements were conducted for 14 days. Results: The volume of waste was increased significantly after providing posters in the intervention sites compared to controls’. Likewise, the quality of trash bin distributed at tourist sites was also increased significantly in the intervention areas compared to controls. The number of visitors at four destinations was increased significantly after intervention because post-test was conducted at long vacation period. That would directly effect to waste volume in the trash bin at 4 tourist destinations. This study recommends to managers to put interesting poster or other instagramable media to promote healthy behaviour related to the cleanliness and beauty at tourist areas.

Abstract Background We consider the design of stepped wedge trials with continuous recruitment and continuous outcome measures. Suppose we recruit from a fixed number of clusters where eligible participants present continuously, and suppose we have fine control over when each cluster crosses to the intervention. Suppose also that we want to minimise the number of participants, leading us to consider “incomplete” designs (i.e. without full recruitment). How can we schedule recruitment and cross-over at different clusters to recruit efficiently while achieving good precision? Methods The large number of possible designs can make exhaustive searches impractical. Instead we consider an algorithm using iterative improvements to hunt for an efficient design. At each iteration (starting from a complete design) a single participant – the one with the smallest impact on precision – is removed, and small changes preserving total sample size are made until no further improvement in precision can be found. Results Striking patterns emerge. Solutions typically focus recruitment and cross-over on the leading diagonal of the cluster-by-time diagram, but in some scenarios clusters form distinct phases resembling before-and-after designs. Conclusions There is much to be learned about optimal design for incomplete stepped wedge trials. Algorithmic searches could offer a practical approach to trial design in complex settings generally.
