Free-ranging reindeer on the Seward Peninsula in western Alaska are rounded up from late May to early July and antlers are removed. We used data collected from 1987 to 1997 to determine how velvet antler weights of males and females varied with age, year, reproductive status, Julian date, and body weight. Male antler weights increased with age up to age five years, and were lower in castrates than in bulls. There was a significant positive relationship between body weight and antler weight in both sexes. Female antler weights increased with age until at least age nine. Lactating females had lower antler weights than non-lactating females, but this effect is better explained by differences in body weight. Antler weight of individual reindeer at age two years was better predicted by their antler weights as yearlings than their body weight as yearlings.

SUMMARY 1. Mean weights are given for the adrenal glands of 1167 male and 806 female voles from naturally fluctuating populations at Lake Vyrnwy, Wales, during 1952–58. 2. Although the mean standardized adrenal weights of both males and females varied from year to year, no consistent relationship with population trend could be found, except that females from expanding populations tended to have the heaviest adrenals. 3. The adrenal weights increased seasonally each year from low values in the spring to maxima in midsummer and decreased again to low values in the autumn. 4. This fluctuation was exhibited not only by breeding animals but also by those that were sexually immature. It therefore seems unlikely that the seasonal enlargement is entirely a direct effect of gonadal activity, though it may be due to changes in social behaviour during the breeding season. 5. In each month the adrenals of pregnant or lactating females were heavier than those of nulliparous animals of the same body weight.

This study aimed to explore the predictive ability of mental motivation for academic achievement, and test whether mental motivation among students vary with gender. The study sample consisted of 381 students from three faculties: education, science and Sharia from Qassim University. The California Measure of Mental Motivation was used. Student's cumulative rate was used as an indicator of academic achievements. The results showed a significant positive relationship between mental motivation and GPA with correlation coefficient = 0.54. Mental motivation proved to be a good predictor of the GPA with an explained variance of 19%. Significant differences in mental motivation were found between different specializations. However, there were no significant differences between males and females or interaction between specialization and gender.

ABSTRACT The assay of corticotrophin in weanling rats, using the decrease in thymus weight as a criterion of response is described. A straight line was obtained over the range of doses of 120–1920 milliunits* when the log dose was plotted against the thymus weight per 100 g of body weight. A study of the factors affecting the assay has shown that there is no significant difference in response between males and females and that the thymus weight bears a direct relation to body weight over the range used. Multiple injections increased the sensitivity of the animals to corticotrophin but did not affect the precision of the assay. Purified corticotrophin preparations were found to have the same relative potency by the thymus involution method as by other subcutaneous injection assay methods.

The study group consisted of 20 men of various ages (14-69 years) and weight. To assess the processes of autophagy, the activity of the protein Beclin-1 was used. In individuals with normal body weight, the presence of positive reliable correlations between the level of beclin-1 and extracellular water was revealed (r = 0.96; p <0.01). In the obese group, there was a significant positive relationship between beclin-1 and the amount of triglycerides (r = 0,57; p <0,05); muscle mass (r = 0,62; p <0,05); lean mass (r = 0,62; p <0,05); common liquid (r = 0,62; p <0,05). In old age, there was a direct correlation between the level of beclin-1 and intracellular fluid (r = 0,84; p <0,05). In men, autophagy was less dependent on age, and to a greater extent on the content of extracellular water in persons with normal weight and muscle mass and total water content in persons with obesity.

Investigation on the Reproductive Biology of Bagrus bayad in Jibiya Dam from Katsina State, Nigeria was carried out from July – December 2019 using standard procedures. One hundred and sixteen (116) samples of B. bayad were harvested and collected during the study period in order to determine sex ratio, fecundity and Gonadosomatic Index (GSI) of the fish species. Results indicated that the male:female sex ratio was 1.3:1 which was not significantly different from the hypothetical 1:1 (p>0.05). It was also found that the GSI of B. bayad was highest in July (0.23) and lowest in October (0.12). The relationship between fecundity and ovary weight was positively significant (p<0.05). Similarly, there was a significant positive relationship between fecundity and body weight as well as between ovary weight and age (p<0.05). However, no significant relationship was found between ovary weight and body weight, body weight and age and between fecundity and age (p>0.05). It is recommended that comparative study on the stages of maturity of male and female B. bayad in Jibiya Dam be investigated.

The present study is an attempt to explore any significant relationships between demotivation, test anxiety (TA), and foreign language classroom anxiety (FLCA) and to seek any significant differences between males and females regarding demotivation, TA, and FLCA. One hundred Iranian EFL students studying at the departments of foreign languages of Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman took part in this study. In order to obtain the required data, three questionnaires were utilized: the Demotivation questionnaire (Kikuchi and Sakai, 2007) to measure demotivation, the Test Anxiety Scale ((TAS), Sarason, 1975) to measure test anxiety, and the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS, Horwitz, Horwitz, and Cope, 1986) to determine the level of students’ FLCA. The findings of this study revealed the following first, there was a significant positive relationship between demotivation and TA; second, there was a significant positive relationship between demotivation and FLCA; third, there was a significant positive relationship between TA and FLCA, finally, there were no significant differences between males and females regarding demotivation, TA, and FLCA.

AbstractUnlike in girls, the data on the relationship between pubertal development and body weight in boys are controversial. We measured the height, body weight, body mass index (BMI), pubic hair stages, testicular volume, penis length and circumference of 4030 boys, aged between 7 and 19 years. According to their body weight, the investigated children and adolescents were divided in four groups at each age: underweight boys (BMI <12th percentile), boys with normal weight (12th–84.99th percentile), overweight boys (85th–94.99th percentile) and boys with obesity (BMI ≥95th percentile), and their data were compared. The onset of puberty occurred when the boys’ weight gained 40.33±9.03 kg (median 39.00) and BMI was 18.62±3.12 kg/mThe onset and progression of puberty in boys are in a significant positive relationship with weight and BMI. Moreover, in the overweight boys pubertal development begins and comes to the late stage earlier in comparison with normal weight children, whereas in those who are underweight a delay at every stage of the development is observed.

Love is more than a close friendship. It acts as a major facilitator of interpersonal relationship. Love is positive in nature and leaves a positive affect on every individual. An individual in love not only feels positive but spreads positivity around. They smile, be kind to other people, behave compassionately with everyone. If the person is happy then he is likely to be psychologically and emotionally healthy. The current study aimed at understanding the relationship between love, affect and wellbeing among young females aged between 20-25 years. The study reported a significant positive relationship between love and positive affect with the significant correlation of 0.29 at 0.05 levels (p<0.05). It was also found a significant positive relationship between love and wellbeing with the significant correlation of 0.58 at 0.01 level (p<0.01). This means that people in love experience positive emotions and healthy wellbeing. The correlation between love and negative affect came out to be insignificant. The correlation turned out to be -0.13. This means that people in love do not experience negative emotions.
