AbstractThe unusual situation derived from the COVID-19 crisis has forced teachers and students to reinvent themselves, using new teaching methods and applying online technologies that allow an efficient distance learning. As a consequence, in the practical subject Experimentation in Chemical Engineering II, of the Degree in Chemical Engineering, the theoretical explanations necessary to carry out the experimentation have been carried out online and synchronously through the Microsoft Teams platform, as a prior step to attendance to the laboratory. The sessions were recorded and made available to the students for their consultation. Thus, physical contact between student and teacher and between students was minimized. On the other hand, in the subject Regulation of Chemical Processes, the evaluation of simulation practices has been modified and, instead of asking students for extensive reports, they were asked to complete a questionnaire in Moodle.

In this article, using examples of handwritten texts of heroic legends and self-recordings by Shor storyteller (kaichi), the collecting activity of the folklorist and the performance of the epic at home are considered. Performing a legend at home is a situation for kaichi that is directly opposite to the generally accepted tradition, when an honorary invitation followed and the performance of alyptyg nybak in a circle of friends and fellow villagers, who perfectly knew the epic tradition of kai The storytellers needed a real audience, an epic environment that would support him on his way beyond the alyp. In the case of one collector-listener-guest, the kaichi, more like a hospitable host, personally thanked him, blessed and bestowed good luck on the alyp. Some storytellers (A. P. Napazakov), in the presence of one collector or in self-recordings (V. E. Tannagashev), completely missed the appeal to the audience. In their room, the storytellers, having lost the habit of performing kai, felt constrained, tuned in for a long time and were forced to perform one epic from morning to dinner, sometimes until evening, if they were in no hurry to go anywhere. However, thanks to confidential communication with storytellers at home, we managed to clarify some “dark places” of the texts, to find out the meaning of archaic words and expressions. Sometimes the collector could make changes to the names of epic works, and the storytellers, trying not to offend the guest in their home, agreed with the opinion of the person who wrote down about the renaming of the legend. Performing alyptyg nybak for one listener-collector in the daytime, the storytellers, for various reasons (mood, haste, arrival of guests, etc.), reduced the performance, which undoubtedly affected the quality of the content of the epic. V. E. Tannagashev has repeatedly reported that due to the limited time, he is forced to shorten the legends, or say it by recitative. Performing legends in an unusual situation, especially for the collector, the kaichi, finding themselves outside the epic environment, did not feel in unity with their listeners, which affected the narrators' remarks and the traditional poetics of legends.

The pandemic declared in many countries in 2020 due to COVID-19 led to the freezing of economies and the introduction of distance learning in both schools and universities. This unusual situation has affected the mental state of citizens, which has the potential to lead to the development of post-traumatic stress and depression. This study aimed to assess the level of stress in dental students in the context of the outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2 virus pandemic. A survey on the PSS-10 scale was prepared to measure the level of perceived stress. The study included 164 dental students at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland. The results showed the impact of COVID-19 on the stress of students, with 67.7% reporting high levels of stress. The study also revealed that stress was higher among older female students. This paper recommends that the university provide more intensive psychological care as psychological first aid strategies in epidemics or natural disasters and to consider telemedicine in order to deliver services due to the limitations of the pandemic.

The rapid spread of the pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus has created an unusual situation, with rapid searches for compounds to interfere with the biological processes exploited by the virus. Doxycycline, with its pleiotropic effects, including anti-viral activity, has been proposed as a therapeutic candidate for COVID-19 and about twenty clinical trials have started since the beginning of the pandemic. To gain information on the activity of doxycycline against SARS-CoV-2 infection and clarify some of the conflicting clinical data published, we designed in vitro binding tests and infection studies with a pseudotyped virus expressing the spike protein, as well as a clinically isolated SARS-CoV-2 strain. Doxycycline inhibited the transduction of the pseudotyped virus in Vero E6 and HEK-293 T cells stably expressing human receptor angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 but did not affect the entry and replication of SARS-CoV-2. Although this conclusion is apparently disappointing, it is paradigmatic of an experimental approach aimed at developing an integrated multidisciplinary platform which can shed light on the mechanisms of action of potential anti-COVID-19 compounds. To avoid wasting precious time and resources, we believe very stringent experimental criteria are needed in the preclinical phase, including infectivity studies with clinically isolated SARS-CoV-2, before moving on to (futile) clinical trials.

ContextDisseminated infections due to Mycobacterium bovis Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) are unusual and occur mostly in patients with inborn error of immunity (IEI) or acquired immunodeficiency. However, cases of secondary BCGosis due to intravesical BCG instillation have been described. Herein, we present a case of severe BCGosis occurring in an unusual situation.Case DescriptionWe report one case of severe disseminated BCG disease occurring after hematological malignancy in a 48-year-old man without BCG instillation and previously vaccinated in infancy with no complication. Laboratory investigations demonstrated that he was not affected by any known or candidate gene of IEI or intrinsic cellular defect involving IFNγ pathway. Whole genome sequencing of the BCG strain showed that it was most closely related to the M. bovis BCG Tice strain, suggesting an unexpected relationship between the secondary immunodeficiency of the patient and the acquired BCG infection.ConclusionThis case highlights the fact that, in addition to the IEI, physicians, as well as microbiologists and pharmacists should be aware of possible acquired disseminated BCG disease in secondary immunocompromised patients treated in centers that administrate BCG for bladder cancers.

The COVID-19 pandemic that emerged in late 2019 significantly affected the whole world. Policies used by governments to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic have also affected the behavior of consumers. It is not easy to predict how the pandemic, which emerged as an unusual situation, will affect the purchasing behavior of consumers. In the study, it is aimed to investigate the effect of COVID-19 on the purchasing behavior of consumers depending on the gender factor. For this purpose, the survey method was applied in the study. The sample of the study consists of 397 people. The study was conducted on Turkey. T-test and variance analysis were used in this survey study. According to the findings obtained as a result of the research, it has been determined that the behavior of consumers changed significantly during the COVID-19 period and these changes were especially aimed at meeting the physiological and safety needs, which are one of their basic needs. A significant difference was observed in the behaviors of women and men. It has been observed that women shop more in case of panic, while men are more interested in online consumption. There have also been cases where men and women exhibit similar behavior. For example, it has been found that the demand for healthy nutrition and hygiene products has increased significantly for both women and men during the epidemic period.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused temporary yet significant changes in young children’s learning environments around the world. In Turkey and many other countries where young children are commonly taken care of at home, a notable pandemic-related change was the increased presence of the father at home. This study utilized this unusual situation to examine the contributions of mothers and fathers in language learning. A two-part online survey was administered to the parents of an 8- to 36- month-old, and we analyzed data from 128 families at Time 1 (Mage = 21.91) and 52 families at Time 2 (Mage = 25.09). As a proxy of the parental language input, we asked the parents to write a story about a picture as if they were telling a bedtime story to their child. The number of words used in the mother’s story, but not the father’s story, predicted the vocabulary level of children.

With 2020 bringing unprecedented circumstances for us all, at the University of Essex we’ve been striving to move our previously in-person information literacy and research support teaching online. In doing this, we wanted to see the unexpected situationasan opportunity for improvement and increased engagement. This has required innovation and creativity, and has led us to deliver our training in a range of different formats. These formats include: online tutorials, YouTube videos, virtual workshop sessions, and mixed-media webpages using Springshare’s LibGuides software. By using a variety of solutions to reach our users, we have seen take-up for our teaching offer increase beyond our previous numbers. We believe this is in no small part due to our online resources’ ability to reach students in various locations and situations, including those working across campuses, outside of the UK, and those who may have other commitments alongside their studies. As well as this, we have been able to increase the accessibility of our teaching by ensuring our newly created online teaching materials meet UK web accessibility standards. In this presentation, we will share the lessons we have learnt in our shift to online teaching. We will explore the different technologies used to achieve this, discussing what has and hasn’t worked in our aim to increase the scope and interactivity of our information literacy and research support training. We will include feedback from participants, and will explore how we intend to broaden our offer further in the future. Ultimately, our presentation will demonstrate how the unusual situation of 2020 led us to innovate in newand interestingways.
