Sulfentrazone was recently registered for use in tomato and strawberry in Florida. Field experiments were conducted at the Gulf Coast Research and Education Center in Wimauma, FL, to evaluate PRE sulfentrazone applications when applied on flat soil 30 days before bed formation (PRE-f), on the bed top immediately before laying plastic mulch (PRE-t), applied PRE-t as a tank mix with other PRE herbicides, or PRE-t followed by POST halosulfuron or rimusulfuron (POST). Sulfentrazone did not damage the tomato and strawberry crop and had no effect on strawberry and tomato fruit yield. It was as effective as the industry standards but none of the evaluated herbicide treatments provided adequate weed control. POST halosulfuron in tomato resulted in significantly greater nutsedge control at 11 (14%) and 13 (27%) weeks after initial treatment (WAIT) compared with other treatments in Fall 2019 and Spring 2020, respectively. However, in tomato, tank-mixing sulfentrazone with S-metolachlor or metribuzin did not enhance nutsedge control. Weed control did not improve with increased rates or with the use of PRE-f followed by (fb) PRE-t applications in tomato. PRE-t sulfentrazone fb POST halosulfuron was an efficient nutsedge management option in tomato. Sulfentrazone alone did not effectively control weeds in tomato or strawberry. Increased rates of sulfentrazone with the use of PRE-f fb PRE-t sulfentrazone applications did reduce (34%) total weed density in strawberry.

Background: Hyperglycemia is a metabolic disorder that refers to an increase in blood sugar in diabetic patients. α-Glucosidase has been introduced as a membrane-bound enzyme, and it is the main enzyme for carbohydrate digestion in some parts of the intestine. Inhibition of α -glucosidase enzyme activity is a reliable approach to control post-prandial hyperglycemia condition. Objectives: In this study, a series of Pyrazolo[1,2-b]phthalazine-5,10-dione derivatives 5a–t were synthesized via a multicomponent reaction and evaluated as new inhibitors for α-glucosidase. Methods: The biological activity of the synthesized compounds was studied using a source of the α-glucosidase enzyme (EC3.2.1.20, Saccharomyces cerevisiae) at 20 U/mg concentration. Results: Four compounds showed higher α-glucosidase inhibitory activity in comparison to a standard, i.e., Acarbose. Compound 5q displays the most potent α-glucosidase inhibitory activity (IC50 = 155.4 ± 6.0 μM). Conclusion: In conclusion, some of the synthesized compounds, including heterocyclic core molecules, have shown remarkable activity that could be considered as subjects for the development of new, more efficient inhibitors of the α-glucosidase enzyme.

Abstract The aim of this study was to characterize posture behavior and truck microclimate of 2 to 8-week-old unweaned calves (59.1 ± 6.72 kg body weight) during 10 transports between December and September (one/month) from an assembly center in Dalry, Scotland to Northern Spain via a control post in Northern Ireland and an assembly center in France (Cherbourg). Average journey time was 105.8 h. A subset of 20 calves per transport were fitted with collars carrying a HOBO environmental logger (HOBO U12) to record the temperature and humidity at calf’ head level and an accelerometer (Axivity AX3) to record accelerations to assess the calf posture (resting, standing or in transition). Data were analyzed with JMP. During the transport, 60% of the time animals were standing, 28% of the time lying and 12% transitioning. Specifically, when the truck was in motion calves spent 82.8% of the time standing, when stationary 68.8% standing, when the truck was on the ferry standing time was 48.4% and at the control post and assembly center standing time was 45.1%.Transports from June to September (n = 4) had an average of 11.96 h (min: 5.17 h; max: 18.8 h) of temperatures greater than 30°C, an average of 25 h (min: 0 h; max: 55 h) of mild heat conditions (72 < THI < 79), and an average of 3.5 h (min: 0 h; max: 23 h) of moderate heat conditions (80 < THI < 89). The exposure to mild and moderate heat conditions occurred mainly during the time that the truck was stationary (waiting at ports) and when calves rested at the control post. Results from this study supports the need to evaluate the impact summer months journeys where animals spend over 30% of the time under heat stress, and the long-standing times on animal welfare.

Abstract We examine the role private equity (PE) sponsors play in the resolution of financial distress of portfolio companies. PE-backed firms have higher leverage and default at higher rates than other companies borrowing in leveraged loan markets. But, PE-backed firms restructure more quickly, avoid bankruptcy court more often, and liquidate less often compared to other highly leveraged firms experiencing financial distress. PE owners are also more likely to retain control post-restructuring, often by infusing capital as firms approach distress. While default frequencies are higher among PE-backed firms, PE investors appear to manage financial distress at lower cost compared to other owners.

Objective: This study compared opioid utilization and clinical outcomes in surgical patients receiving maintenance buprenorphine therapy who discontinued versus those who continued buprenorphine treatment perioperatively. Lack of high-quality evidence, conflicting results in previous studies, and the possible need for reinduction after discontinuing therapy present clinicians with the complicated dilemma of choosing the best strategy to control post-operative pain in patients receiving buprenorphine.Design: A multicenter, retrospective cohort study.Participants: Hospitalized patients between January 1, 2017 and December 12, 2019 who underwent any type of surgery, had a documentation of an outpatient buprenorphine prescription or inpatient order, and received buprenorphine for 5 or more days prior to the procedure were included.Main outcome measure(s): The primary objective was to compare mean 24-hour morphine milligram equivalent (MME) utilization post-operatively between patients who discontinued buprenorphine preoperatively versus those who continued therapy throughout the perioperative period. Results: Fifty-one patients met the inclusion criteria for this study. Of these, 42 patients were continued on buprenorphine through surgery, while nine patients had a documentation of discontinuation preoperatively. The 24-hour post-operative MME utilization (interquartile range) was 58.8 (18-100.8) in patients who continued therapy through surgery versus 152.6 (114.5-236) in patients who discontinued therapy preoperatively (p = 0.005). There were no significant differences in post-operative pain scores or length of stay between groups. Conclusion: Post-operative opioid use was significantly lower in patients who continued buprenorphine compared with those who discontinued buprenorphine preoperatively.

Diarrhea is currently still the third leading cause of under-five mortality after pneumonia. Diarrhea is one of the diseases that causes death and illness in toddlers every year. One result of diarrhea is nutritional disorders due to reduced food intake, vomiting, hypoglycemia, dehydration which causes metabolic balance disorders because fluid intake is not balanced with expenditure through vomiting and diarrhea. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in the duration of diarrhea when giving tempeh porridge to toddlers at the Puruk Cahu Health Center. The design of this study is analytic research with this type of research is Quasi Experiment using the design of the Group Control Post Test Only Design. The population in this study were toddlers who had acute diarrhea in the working area of Puruk Cahu Health Center, Murung Raya Regency and the sample size was 38 people (19 people as the control group and 19 experimental groups). The statistical test used in this study was the Mann Whitney test. The results of statistical tests using the Mann Whitney test found that p value = 0.002 means the value of p value < alpha (0.05), meaning that there is an effect of giving tempe porridge to the duration of diarrhea at Puruk Cahu Health Center. Diarrhea in the group that was not given tempeh porridge lasted longer than the group that was given tempeh porridge. The Conclusion is that there is a difference in the duration of acute diarrhea in the administration of tempe porridge for toddlers at the Puruk Cahu Health Center.

The chemical fungicide fludioxonil is widely used to control post-harvest fungal disease in cherries. This study was implemented to investigate the dissipation behaviours and residues of fludioxonil on cherries. A reliable and efficient analytical method was established. Cherry samples from four product areas were analyzed by QuEChERS and HPLC-MS/MS methods with acceptable linearity (R2 > 0.99), accuracy (recoveries of 81–94%), and precision (relative standard deviation of 2.5–11.9%). The limits of quantification (LOQs) and limits of detection (LODs) of cherries were 0.01 mg/kg and 0.005 mg/kg. The dissipation of fludioxonil on cherries followed first order kinetics with half-lives of 33.7–44.7 days. The terminal residues of fludioxonil were all lower than 5.00 mg/kg, which is the MRL recommended by the European Commission. According to Chinese dietary patterns and terminal residue distributions, the risk quotient (RQs) of fludioxonil was 0.61%, revealing that the evaluated cherries exhibited an acceptably low dietary risk to consumers.

The problem of assessing the city's atmospheric pollution based on monitoring data at stationary observation posts is considered. The results of the research carried out on the example of Iskitim city in the Novosibirsk region are discussed. The analysis of the relationship between the frequency of impurity emissions from dominant sources and the measured concentrations at the stationary observation point of the city for winter periods of time is carried out. The influence of the frequency of winds of different directions on the formation of the level of atmospheric pollution at the control post has been investigated. Taking into account the relative position of the observation point and the main highway of the city, a noticeable contribution of southwestern winds to the increase in benzo (a) pyrene concentrations is shown. The regularities of the formation of atmospheric pollution in calm conditions have been studied. A statistical relationship has been established between the number of calm recorded during the month at the Iskitim meteorological station and the values of benzo(a)pyrene concentrations.
