SCHOOL LEARNING ACTION CELL AS A REMEDY TO OUT-OF-FIELD TEACHING: A CASE IN ONE RURAL SCHOOL IN SOUTHERN PHILIPPINES

Out-of-field teaching continues to be a persisting problem in the Philippine educational system – similarly evident in the rural school where this study was conducted. As an intervention, the researchers organized a professional learning community in the form of a school learning action cell (SLAC) to provide assistance to the teachers. They were then interviewed to determine the perceived effects of the intervention. Results of the study revealed that SLAC sessions contribute to the general well-being of the teachers in their view of the profession as it ‘reduced their tasks’ and ‘promoted workplace collaboration.’ On the other hand, it also impacted their pedagogy, which was found to have contributed to their ‘instructional mastery’ and ‘teacher efficacy.’ The researchers, however, caution that, though the intervention was found to be successful, it should be taken in its suggestive nature when out-of-field teaching is unavoidable. When feasible, the idyllic educational landscape should assign teachers according to their respective specialized fields.

BUILDING CHARACTER OF HARDINESS THROUGH RELIGIOUSITY AND LOCAL WISDOM FOR MERCHANT MARINE CADET IN ACEH, INDONESIA

This study aims to describe the model of character building of prospective marine transportation cadets in Malahayati Merchant Marine Polytechnic, Aceh, Indonesia. The research method used in this study was a qualitative method using a phenomenological research design. Through participatory action research, in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, the data were found, which Miles and Huberman’s model used as data analysis. The data analysis process consisted of data reduction, data display, drawing conclusion/verification. The research result showed that character educational implementation of Merchant Marine Education in Aceh was conducted through (1) the instruction method, education, suggestion, persuasion, trusting, punishment, guidance and counseling, Habituation, group discussion, and organizational activities. The method implementation adjusted to the activities and educational cadet level starting from prospective cadet to senior cadet. (2) Method implementation intervention conducted through the hidden curriculum like moral knowing, moral feeling, moral action, and religiosity that manifests in five diversity dimensions: religious belief, religious practice, religious feeling, religious knowledge, and religious effects. (3) Attitude nurture implementation conducted through local wisdom habituation that includes exemplary figures of leaders/coach/trainers/senior cadets, behavioral standards, and reflection studies. (4) Religious character educational implementation bears a resilient cadet profile who is smart, professional, skilled, and good. This research finding recommended the importance of religiosity and local wisdom in building the character of Hardiness.

DESIGNING DIGITAL STORYTELLING IN ENGLISH ONLINE LEARNING

The covid-19 outbreak has led to many opportunities and chances for teachers and lecturers to create many media for online learning. The purpose of this research discusses 1) to design Digital storytelling in online learning, 2) to study the implementation of teaching English by using digital storytelling, and 3) to find out the practicality of digital storytelling for pre-service teacher students. This research uses d research development model developed by Alessi and Trollip (2001), which consists of three stages; the first stage is planning, the second stage designs, and third is development which focuses on designing digital storytelling to find more about the impact of digital storytelling as an online learning media process for English teaching material. The sample was 180 junior high students to get the needed analysis data, eight pre-service teacher students implemented the digital storytelling in the online classroom, and two evaluators to assess the appropriateness of digital storytelling to be used by pre-service teachers as it is found in this research that designing digital storytelling showed practically on how digital storytelling was designed, developed and applied in English class. The pre-service students successfully implemented digital storytelling, and the appropriateness was high, which can be used in the online teaching process

IDENTIFYING THE CULTURE OF THE MUHAMMADIYAH ISLAMIC BOARDING SCHOOL

This study aims to determine the organizational culture at the Muhammadiyah Islamic Boarding School. This research method includes qualitative research with the object of research is the Islamic Boarding School Modern Imam Syuhodo Sukoharjo. This study's collection method was obtained by seeking information from high-ranking informants and distributing questionnaires filled out by respondents at the Muhammadiyah Islamic Boarding School. Data collection techniques are carried out by interview, observation, and documentation supported by OCAI instruments. The results of the Leadership Research show that from the point of view of the leadership's assessment of the current dominant organizational culture, namely clan culture (40) and hierarchy (23). The data obtained shows that there is a significant difference between clan and hierarchy. The research results concluded that clan is the dominant culture for the current organizational culture and the dominant culture for the expected culture. At the same time, the hierarchy becomes the dominant culture in the second position. Then the organization needs a greater sense of kinship and better regulations to maintain organizational stability.

ANALYSIS OF MATHEMATICAL CONNECTIONS ABILITY ON JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Mathematical connection is the ability to make connections to understanding mathematical concepts that are associated with contexts outside of mathematics. Various studies revealed that the students' mathematical connection is still low; therefore, this study aims to describe the difficulties of junior high school students in mathematical connection ability. This research is a descriptive qualitative study. The study sample was 52 students from a junior high school in East Flores Regency. The methods used in this study were tests, observations, and interviews. The study results showed that the mathematical connection ability based on the three indicators of connection ability tends to be below. Students did not understand concepts that had been studying; easy to forget concepts, principles and procedures; not used to use concepts, principles and procedures; assume mathematics has nothing to do with other sciences; not accustomed to applying mathematical concepts in everyday life; lack of understanding about the story

PRINCIPAL'S LEADERSHIP IN REALIZING CHARACTER EDUCATION

The Importanat of the principal's leadership in implementing a character education program attracts the author to conduct research and this article discusses the results of a literature review conducted by the author. There are a number of articles on the review of principals' leadership and character educatiob especially in the world context that can be found. The purpose of thus review is to find out the principal's leadership in realizing character education in a world context. Based on the results of the literature reviews from various countries in the world, the authors find the scope of the article being reviewed is still very limited and it is very difficult to get literature that combines th two variables. The results of the literature review about principal's leadership shows that the principal's leadership in carrying out his role as a leader has an impact on teacher performance and student personality. Literature review of charcter education shows that the principal has a big role in realizing students personality. Thus, the authors are interested in following up related to the principal's leadership in realizing character education.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHERS’ PERCEPTION OF INCLUSIVE EDUCATION IN EAST JAVA, INDONESIA

Teachers' perception of inclusive education becomes an important indicator in evaluating the success of inclusive education. Teachers who have a positive perception of inclusive education will have a more controlled learning environment. This study used a survey method that investigates the current views of elementary school teachers toward inclusive education by exploring their perceptions. The respondents of this study are 70 elementary school teachers in East Java Province. This study found that: (1) There was no difference perception of teachers in primary schools concerning the concept of inclusive education, placement of students with disabilities, and processing of learning in inclusive classrooms; (2) Teachers' perceptions in primary schools towards inclusive education was not influenced by their duties as regular and special education teachers; (3) There are differences in perceptions of inclusive education based on the amount of training they followed; (4) There are differences in teachers' perceptions of inclusive education based on the length of teachers' experience teaching students with disabilities. Teachers' perceptions of inclusive education can be measured from three dimensions: the inclusion concept, disability student placement, and learning management.

CLIMATE CHANGE AND TEACHER’S PERFORMANCE IN SECONDARY SCHOOL IN BENUE STATE NIGERIA

The study investigated climate change and Teachers performance in secondary schools in Benue State, Nigeria. Two research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. Survey research design was adopted for the study. The population compromised 5,225 teachers from 512 secondary schools. A total of 528 (10%) teachers from 51 (10%) secondary schools was sampled using proportionate stratified sampling technique: A 10-items self structured questionnaire titled “climate change and teachers performance questionnaire (CCTPQ) was used for data collection. The data were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions while chi-square (x2) test of goodness of fit was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The finding of the study revealed that rainfall has a significant impact on teachers’ performance in secondary school in Benue State, Nigeria. The study also found that excessive heat has a significant impact on teachers’ performance in secondary schools. it was concluded that climate change significantly impact on teachers performances in secondary school in Benue State, Nigeria. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that secondary, principals should provide rain-cut to teacher during raining season to enable them perform effectively and the government should provide Air-conditions or sling fans during excessive heat in the classrooms for efficient teahers performance.

SUSTAINABILITY OF EDUCATION IN POST-PANDEMIC: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITY

The pandemic around the world has been going on for more than a year. A major impact in education has been the change from conventional education to online information technology-based education. After the pandemic, it was necessary to plan the educational model that was carrying out. To examine the educational model in the Indonesian Navy after the pandemic, a combination of SWOT - AHP will be carried out. The research subjects included five middle-ranking officers in the Indonesian Navy educational institution and the Indonesian Navy Education Office. The result of the research is that the Indonesian Navy needs to integrate the online-based education model with face-to-face education. Online-based education, especially in theory and face-to-face learning in the discussion model, workgroup, and teamwork in military team formations, platoons, company, battalion, and skills training in using the equipment. The global strategy compiled is an intensification of the combination of online and offline learning with an increasingly advanced educational information system, combining teaching materials and being equipped with increasingly qualified teaching staff from within the Indonesian Navy and others to improve Indonesian Navy education while maintaining system security and improve HR capabilities in the IT field by collaborating with other relevant agencies

FULLFILLMENT OF DISABILITY RIGHTS BASED ON DEFINITIONS, LEGAL BASIS, CRITERIA, AND AIMS OF INCLUSIVE EDUCATION IN INDONESIA

One of the Indonesian government's efforts to provide equal education for disabilities is by implementing inclusive education. Inclusive education gives special needs (SEN) students have the same opportunity to get education together in class with the typical students of their age and obtain equal education services. So, inclusive education concept understanding is needed to provide information about inclusive education. Therefore, this article's arrangement provides information about inclusive education's definition, legal basis, characteristics, and aims. The current study method used a literature review of five books and 17 articles. It showed that inclusive education is the education service given to the unique needs students to have equal opportunity to school in the regular school and obtain equal service. The implementation of inclusive education had been regulating by international regulations and, in more detail, regulated by Indonesian government regulations. The characteristics of inclusive education must consider the interests of the disabilities and their flexibility to create an education that could run well and lasts long. In addition to imposing equal educational rights without any differentiation and optimizing special needs students' potential, inclusive education could also increase the interaction of special needs students.
