AbstractNatural disasters (NDs) experienced by women and their children during prenatal and infant growth may have long-lasting effects on offspring’s development. Handgrip strength (HGS) is one of the measures of muscular strength and an indicator of health status. This study compared HGS in children exposed to cyclone Aila in India during their prenatal and infant growth compared to a control group from a non-affected, adjacent area. The total sample involved 444 boys and 423 girls aged 7–9 years, categorised into 3 groups: prenatally exposed to Aila, exposed to Aila in infancy, and the control group, non-exposed to Aila. Results revealed that prenatally exposed children of both sexes had significantly lower HGS than the controls (at least, p < 0.001 in boys; p < 0.05 in girls). On the other hand, the postnatally exposed boys, but not the girls, showed lower HGS than the controls. A significant effect of a group factor (ND exposure) on HGS was observed even after controlling for confounding variables (age, height, BMI, birth weight, gestational age; at least, p < 0.05). Our findings indicate that prenatal or early postnatal experience of a ND may have association with impaired HGS in prepubertal children.

Bronchial Asthma generally starts from childhood which is condition where respiration channel experiences constriction because of hyperactivity with some specific stimulation which cause inflammation. Some risk factors are smoking exposure of cigarette smoke, weather changes, mite on house dirt, pet and history of family sickness. The purpose of this research is to know Relation of mite on house dirt, exposure of cigarette smoke  and history of family sickness with bronchial asthma incident to child 5 – 10  years old on working area of Puskesmas Lempake Samarinda City in 2016. Method which used was analytic survey with Case Control approaching. The total sample was 36 children which consisted of 18 case group and 18 control group with matching by using age and gender which submitted with Purposive Sampling technique. Data Analysis used Chi Square with wrong degree α = 0,005. The result showed that there was relation of mite of house dirt (p = 0,006), history of family sickness (p = 0,001) and no relation with exposure of cigarette smoke (p = 0,370) with bronchial asthma incident to child 5 – 10 years old on working area of Puskesmas Lempake Samarinda City in 2016.

Attachment behaviors are behaviors experienced by children when they would leave their homes and families to join his friends at school he regarded as strangers. This behavior can interfere with the functioning life of the child so that the child can not be independent, and parents should be involved more in the activities of children. The study aimed to determine the effect of economic token therapy for reducing the attachment behavior among Kindergarten Students. The design of this study was quasi experimental with pre and post with control group. By using multistage random sampling and consecutive sampling technique with a total sample of 68 people who experienced attachment behavior. Consisted of 34 peoples as intervention group and 34 peoples as control group. Bivariate analysis using Wilcoxon test and mann-whitney test. The results showed that there were significant differences of attachment behavior before and after entering the token economy intervention in the intervention group compared with those in the control group (p = 0.000). Token economy therapy has positive effect to reduce attachment behavior of kindergarten student at the beginning of learning process in the kindergarten school. The application of economic token is recommended to overcome the attachment behavior of existing preschool children in schools and in the general public health services.   KEY WORDS: Attachment behavior, Token economy, Kindergarten students.

In the world, around 1.62 billion people have low HB levels, around 30.2% occur in the group of women aged 15-49. In Indonesia, anemia cases rank 4th in the top 10 most disease groups. Prolonged iron deficiency can cause anemia, so it needs to be treated immediately so it doesn’t continue into pregnancy age which can cause complications until maternal and perinatal death. Papua has an abundance of marine wealth; one of those is Kerang Dara. Through this study, researchers wanted to explore the health benefits of nature. The aim is to see the effect of Consumption of Kerang Dara Cookies (Anadara Granosa) on Changes of Hemoglobin Levels of in Woman of Childbearing Age as an Effort to Prevent Anemia in District Aimas, Klaigit Village. Type of this research is quasi-experimental by pretest-posttest control group design method. The population of all the women of Childbearing who live in Klaigit Village, with a total sample of 14 people divided into 2 groups: control and intervention. Data collection techniques using random sampling. The time of data collection occurred for 2 weeks, starting from September 20th to October 4th. The results based on statistical tests using T-Test, then the value 884 is greater than the value of the table 0.05, then the conclusion is there is an Effect of Consumption Kerang Dara Cookies (Anadara Granosa) Towards the Increased of Woman of Childbearing Hemoglobin Levels in Klaigit Village in District Aimas in 2019.

Main funding source(s): Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution Research Institute for Complex Issues of Cardiovascular Diseases Introduction The purpose was to evaluate the effectiveness of NMES in patients with complications after cardiac surgery. Methods This study was 37 patients who had significant postoperative complications after cardiovascular surgery. Participants were randomly - NMES group, n = 18; control, n = 19. It was not possible to blind the investigator. Analyzed basic clinical data. The dynamometry of the muscles upper and lower extremities was carried out, as well as a 6-minute walk test (6MWT). Also, the thickness of the quadriceps was measured using ultrasound.The patients underwent NMES on the quadriceps femoris muscle, daily from the third postoperative day, until discharge. The duration session was 90 minutes. Outcomes No differences were found in the baseline characteristics of the groups, including the results of laboratory and instrumental studies. Groups were comparable in the surgery and perioperative parameteres. The initial strength indicators also had no significant differences in the groups. At discharge knee extensors strength (KES) was significantly higher in the NMES group. The knee flexor strength (KFS) and handgrip strength (HF) increased the same in both groups. The quadriceps crosssectional area (CSA) muscle increased more in the NEMS group than in the control to the time of discharge. Average KES increased to a greater extent in the NMES group. At the same time, average and maximum KFS increased equally in both groups. A 6MWT before discharge did not show a difference between groups (P=.166). The NMES course did not affect the duration of hospitalisation (P=.429). Discussion This pilot study show beneficial effects of NMES on muscle strength in patients with complications after cardiovascular surgery. Abstract Objectives The current randomized controlled trial (RCT) will be conducted to assess the effect of green tea intake on disease symptoms and laboratory parameters including C-reactive protein (CRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), and complete blood count (CBC) in patients with mild-to-moderate Covid-19 infection. Trial design Randomized, double-blinded, parallel (1:1 ratio) clinical trial exploratory study Participants We will recruit patients with COVID-19 infection admitted to Yasuj Shahid Jalil Hospital in Yasuj City, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, Iran. Participants’ inclusion criteria are as follows: Inclusion Criteria Patients aged ≥18 years COVID-19 diagnosis according to real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) Exclusion Criteria Pregnancy or lactation Disseminated intravascular coagulation or any other types of coagulopathy Severe congestive kidney failure Having a history of participating in a clinical trial during the last 30 days Intervention and comparator Intervention: Two capsules containing 450 mg green tea extract along with routine treatment for COVID-19 patients in the intervention group. Two capsules containing placebo plus routine treatment for patients with COVID-19 infection. Capsules will be taken twice a day, after lunch and dinner, for 14 days. Main outcomes Changes in disease symptoms and laboratory parameters including CRP, ESR, and CBC after 14 days of the intervention compared to control group. Randomisation Eligible patients will be randomly assigned into the intervention or control group in a 1:1 ratio. Randomization will be performed based on 8 permuted blocks with block sizes of 10, and patients in the intervention and control groups will be matched according to sex and age categories. Randomization will be done using computer-generated random numbers (Randomization.com) Blinding (masking) The appearance of placebo and green tea capsules will be similar in terms of shape and color, and they will be packed in the same bags that will be prepared by the company. Also, the researcher and all participants will not be aware of the divisions until the end of the study. Numbers to be randomised (sample size) The total sample was determined based on CRP MCID in which high CRP levels were considered >2.6 mg/L. Accordingly, a total sample size of 37 patients for each intervention group was required. Trial Status The protocol is Version 1.0, on June 5, 2021. Recruitment will start on July 11, 2021, which is anticipated to be completed by September 21, 2021. Main funding source(s): Research Institute for Complex Issues of Cardiovascular Diseases Aim To evaluate the effects of neuromuscular electrostimulation in the prehabilitation and prevention of muscle weakness in patients awaiting cardiac surgery. Materials and methods 122 patients waiting for elective cardiac surgery were included. Exclusion criteria: age less than 25 and more than 80 years; emergency and urgent surgical interventions; arthropathies; low pain threshold; rhabdomyolysis and other myopathies; cognitive dysfunction. Routine laboratory and instrumental examinations were performed in all patients upon admission to the hospital, as part of a standard examination. 62 patients were randomly selected for the preoperative NMES group, in addition to the standard preoperative preparation and treatment program. The standard program included 60 control patients. Patients of the NMES group underwent quadriceps stimulation for at least 5 sessions, lasting 90 minutes, daily before surgery. Results. The groups were comparable and did not have significant differences in gender and age characteristics, according to the main clinical and anamnestic data and types of operations. Initially, there were no differences in the state of the muscles of the lower extremities, the distance of the six-minute walking test (6MWT), and the strength of the hand grip. After NMES, there was an increase in muscle strength relative to the control group, both stimulated muscle groups and unstimulated antagonist muscles, as well as a greater 6MWT distance and hand compression force. All the differences were significant. Conclusions The course of pre-rehabilitation of NMES before surgery, allowed to maintain, and in some cases improve the condition of the muscle frame of the lower extremities. Abstract Background Physical inactivity is worldwide considered one of the biggest public health problems of the 21st century. WHO recommended in children, at least 60 minute of Moderate Vigorous Physical activity (MVPA) per day, but low percentages comply with guidelines. Considering that children spend many hours at school, classroom is the ideal setting to increase their PA. Active Breaks (AB) are a 5-15-minute bouts of PA led by the teachers during academic lessons. The aim of the Imola AB study is to implement a 1-year intervention based on AB (10min/3per-day) in primary school as a new strategy to reduce inactivity. We present the baseline results. Methods Quasi-experimental pre-post study in 6-10aged primary school children, in Imola(Italy).We evaluated PA level with Actigraph accelerometers: time (in minutes) spent in MVPA Weekly and Daily (W-MVPA; D-MVPA) and Weekly Sedentary behaviours (W-SB). Results We recruited 152 children: N = 110 in Active Breaks experimental group (AB) and N = 42 in control group (CG). Actigraph's analysis showed that 42,5% of children in the ABG vs 31.0% in the CG reach the WHO recommendation (p=ns). We investigated baseline differences between groups using ANOVA dividing children by grade. In 3-4 grades: W-MVPA (AB = 318.3±15.5 vs CG = 310.4±98.0 p = 0.78); D-MVPA (AB = 53.0±20.3 vs CG = 51.8±16.3 p = 0.79);W-SB (AB = 6,687.5±375.3 vs CG = 6,754.7±281.0 p = 0.45). In 1grade: W-MVPA (AB = 376.1±127.9 vs CG = 300.3±120.0 p = 0.02); D-MVPA (AB = 62.7±21.3 vs CG = 50.0±20.0 p = 0.02); W-SB (AB = 6,436.0±496.0 vs CG = 6,373.3 ±1,532.0 p = 0.7). Conclusions Only the 39.2% of the total sample met the 60-minute/day of MVPA recommended. We found no significant baseline differences in PA level measured by Actigraph between CG and AB, excepted in 1 grade. The intervention implemented in the Imola AB study could be a good strategy to reduce sedentary in children and reach the WHO recommendation, thus contributing to the aims of the new Global Action Plan on PA 2018-2030. Key messages Less than 50% reach the WHO recommendations of PA. AB implemented in the Imola Study could be a public health school-based strategy to reduce sedentary and increase healthy behavior in children. Active breaks (AB) are emerging as a good strategy to increase the PA level, reducing the time in sedentary habits.

A double-blind placebo trial was conducted to determine the effect of moderate to high loads ofTrichuris trichiura(whipworm) infection on the cognitive functions of 159 school children (age 9–12 years) in Jamaica. Infected children were randomly assigned to Treatment or Placebo groups. A third group of randomly selected uninfected children were assigned to a Control for comparative purposes. The improvement in cognitive function was evaluated using a stepwise multiple linear regression, designed to control for any confounding variables. The expulsion of worms led to a significant improvement in tests of auditory short-term memory (P< 0.02;P< 0.01), and a highly significant improvement in the scanning and retrieval of long-term memory (P< 0.001). After 9 weeks, treated children were no longer significantly different from an uninfected Control group in these three tests of cognitive function. The removal ofT. trichiurawas more important thanAscaris lumbricoidesin determining this improvement. The results suggest that whipworm infection has an adverse effect on certain cognitive functions which is reversible by therapy.

AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa yang menggunakan metode silih tanya berbantuan kartu model dan metode make a match. Jenis penelitian ini adalah quasi eksperimen dengan desain penelitian non equivalent pretest-posttest control group design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII SMPN 4 Sungguminasa Kab. Gowa berjumlah 351 siswa dan total sampel berjumlah 64 siswa dengan teknik pengambilan sampel purposive sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah tes yang terdiri dari pretest dan posttest dan non tes berupa lembar observasi. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data nilai siswa menggunakan statistik deskriptif rata-rata nilai kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa yang diajar menggunakan metode silih tanya berbantuan kartu model adalah 86,84 dengan kategori sedang dan yang diajar menggunakan metode make a match adalah 77,78 dengan kategori sedang. Berdasarkan analisis statistik inferensial bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa yang menggunakan metode silih tanya berbantuan kartu model dengan yang menggunakan metode make a match pada kelas VII SMPN 4 Sungguminasa Kab. Gowa. AbstractThis study aims to determine the mathematical communication ability of students who use card-assisted questions method and make a match method. This type of research is a quasi-experimental research with nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. The population in this study were all VII grade students of SMPN 4 Sungguminasa, Gowa Regency with 351 students and a total sample of 64 students with purposive sampling techniques. The instrument used in this study was a test consisting of pre-test and post-test and non-test that is observation sheet. Based on the data analysis results that average the value of students’ mathematical communication skills who were taught using the card-assisted questions was 86.84 in the medium category and those who taught using make a match method were 77.78 in the medium category. The results of inferential statistical analysis that there is a significant difference between the mathematical communication abilities of students who use card-assisted questions and using the make a match method in class VII of SMPN 4 Sungguminasa, Gowa Regency.

e18617 Background: The study evaluated the prevalence & impact of sarcopenia in gastroesophageal cancer (GC) & lung cancer (LC) patients undergoing resection. Methods: An observational prospective study was conducted in department of surgical oncology, AIIMS, New Delhi. All patients aged under 65 years with resectable GC & LC were included. Skeletal muscle index (SMI) using cross-sectional CT images at the level of L3 & Hand grip strength (dynamometer) were used to assess sarcopenia. Random benign patients with CT images were used as control group. Patients were categorized into sarcopenic and non-sarcopenic and outcome parameters were compared. Results: In the study population (n = 66), GC & LC constituted 44 (66.67%) & 22(33.33%) respectively. Mean age was 53.4 years. The prevalence of sarcopenia based on the combined method (CT imaging & handgrip strength) was 57.58%, CT based sarcopenia was 33.34% & handgrip strength-based sarcopenia was 43.93%. Mild and moderate sarcopenia was seen in 37.88% (n = 25) & 19.7 % (n = 13) respectively. Among patients with GC, prevalence of sarcopenia was 59.09% by combined method, 36.36% and 43.18% by CT based method alone & handgrip strength-based method alone respectively. Among LC prevalence of sarcopenia was 54.54% by combined method, 27.27% and 45.45% by CT based & handgrip-based method. The concordance between CT muscle mass & grip strength was 62.12%. Most female patients had weak handgrip strength despite having normal SMI. In control group (n = 44) mean age was 54.5 years, the prevalence of CT based sarcopenia was 34.09%. Weight loss history & BMI correlated with the degree of sarcopenia. Out of 66 patients 13% (n = 9) patients were unresectable. Moderate sarcopenia group had more statistically significant (P -0.02) unresectable disease compared to mild and non-sarcopenic groups. In postoperative period, sarcopenic group (64.51% vs 38.36 %) had more grade 2 complications though statistically insignificant. There was no difference in hospital stay between the two groups. In patients with GC , postoperative respiratory complication occurred in 11.53% (n = 3) of sarcopenic patients and 5.5%(n = 1) of non-sarcopenic patients, anastomotic leak occurred in 7.69% (n = 2) of sarcopenic patients and 5.5% (n = 1) of nonsarcopenic patients. Conclusions: The prevalence of sarcopenia is higher in patients with gastroesophageal cancer compared to lung cancer. The important factors that affect the sarcopenia include age and body mass index and weight loss history. The study has showed a trend towards increased post-operative complications and increased unresectable cases in patients with mild to moderate sarcopenia. Further larger studies are required to validate if sarcopenia can be used as an adjunct to predict resectability and post-operative outcomes.
