The expediency of using waste generated during industrial processing of commercial aquatic biological resources is justified. By-products obtained as a result of cutting fish and non-fish objects represent a significant source of biologically valuable substances. The article provides information on the use of secondary raw materials for the production of feed products for farm animals, birds and aquaculture facilities for the production of biologically valuable products, biofuels. The paper presents an assessment of the technological potential of by-products formed during the processing of the most profitable commercial objects – crabs and salmon. Such bu-products include carapace of the cephalothorax, crab entrails, as well as the caviar film remaining during the punching of salmon fish hawks. The assessment of the total chemical composition of the waste from the cutting of the blue crab was carried out. The high biological value of the hepatopancreas and carapace crab proteins was revealed. The general chemical waste from punching of chum salmon hawks is given. The high biological value of these waste lipids was confirmed by evaluating their fatty acid composition. The possibility and necessity of using the studied waste for the production of biologically valuable products is experimentally justified.

The Strategy for the development of the fisheries complex of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2030, approved by the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation (dated November 26, 2019 N 2798-r) provides for a set of measures for the rational use of biological resources. The most promising direction of this task is the creation of modern technologies for deep pro-cessing of fish raw materials, providing for an integrated approach and taking into account its technological potential.

Human activities require a growing need for raw materials. In order to contribute to sustainable development, many business sectors are focusing on biomass valorization. Whether from dedicated crops or first industrial processing, it generates materials with high potential that can be used in many fields. Non-food uses mainly concern the energy, chemical, and construction sectors. Whatever the intended application, a pre-treatment stage is essential to clean the material and/or to access a specific fraction. An additional modification may occur in order to endow the material with a new function thanks to a process known as functionalization. Uses of plant fractions (aggregates) in combination with cement offer advantages like low-density materials with attractive thermophysical properties for building. However, their development is limited by the compatibility of crop by-products with hydraulic binders such as Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC). This includes delays in setting time and hydrophilic character of vegetal components and their interaction with an alkaline environment. The aggregate/cement interfaces can therefore be strongly affected. In addition, the diversity of crop by-products and mineral binders increases the level of complexity. In order to overcome these drawbacks, the treatment of plant fractions before their use with mineral binders may result in significant benefits. In this way, various treatments have been tested, but the methods used at an industrial scale remain relatively under-researched. The purpose of this review is therefore to highlight the mechanisms involved in each specific process, thus justifying the operating conditions specific to each. This bibliography study aims to highlight potential treatments that could apply to biomass before their mixing with cementitious binders. According to the objective, a distinction can be made between extraction processes as hydrothermal or solvent treatments, assisted or not, and structural modification processes as surface treatments, impregnation, or grafting.

Сhanges in the structure of the fishery, the general trend of decreasing catches of traditional marine fish species, increasing the number of freshwater fish as aquaculture facilities necessitates the improvement of complex technologies for processing raw materials and expanding the range of food products from freshwater fish. One of the promising areas for solving these problems is the development of technology for preserves from freshwater fish and based on the principles of food combinatorics by enriching them with plant ingredients. The use of spicy-aromatic roots in the future is one of the priority areas of research. Substantiated and developed is of technology of freshwater fish preserves of increased biological value using spice-aromatic roots (parsley, ginger and horseradish), which solves the problem of production of optimized foodstuff according to the nutritive and biological value indicators. The necessity of using freshwater fish and aromatic roots in technology of preserves is grounded. Based on organoleptic analysis the compatibility of freshwater fish and spice-aromatic roots as part of preserves is determined. The results of studies of the chemical, fatty acid, amino acid and mineral composition of preserves and the assessment of their safety are presented. The preserves made modified by vegetative ingredient had the plastic and dense consistency on their cut. The positive results of their organoleptic analysis evidenced expediency of adding of proposed vegetative ingredient to fish. The conditions of preprocessing of salted semi-finished product with the aim of its further maturation as part of preserves is theoretically grounded and experimentally confirmed. The expediency of combining a freshwater fish with plant material to expand the range of biologically valuable food products is presented in the article. The proposed formulations of fish-based preserves products would permit to spread the assortment of dietetic products. The second positive effect of application vegetative raw materials in minced fish masses is finding one of more method of reprocessing the freshwater fish. The R&D work we performed would be continued and should include the stage of development and optimization the technologies of producing the fish products modified by vegetative raw.

The book under review is a concise but fairly in-depth study of the prospects for export diversification from the Less Developed Countries (henceforth labeled as LDCs) particularly to Developed Countries (henceforth labeled as OCs). Given the multiple problems faced by the LOCs in exporting to the OCs - protectionist policies with regards to manufactured exports, volatility of prices obtained for raw material exports, etc. - the study analyses the potential for following an intermediate route. The important issues in the export of semi -processed and wholly processed raw materials are discussed. 111ese issues range from the problems and potentials for the location of processing facilities in the LOCs to the formulation of appropriate policies to encourage an export of processed goods rather than raw materials. Such policies will be useful both in solving the balance of-payments problems of the LDCs and in attaining the goal of the Lima Declaration and Plan of Action on Industrial Development and Co-operation, that called for 2S percent of world industrial production to be located in the LOCs by the year 2000.

The plastic industry is today facing a green revolution; however, biopolymers, produced in low amounts, expensive, and food competitive do not represent an efficient solution. The use of wine waste as second-generation feedstock for the synthesis of polymer building blocks or as reinforcing fillers could represent a solution to reduce biopolymer costs and to boost the biopolymer presence in the market. The present critical review reports the state of the art of the scientific studies concerning the use of wine by-products as substrate for the synthesis of polymer building blocks and as reinforcing fillers for polymers. The review has been mainly focused on the most used bio-based and biodegradable polymers present in the market (i.e., poly(lactic acid), poly(butylene succinate), and poly(hydroxyalkanoates)). The results present in the literature have been reviewed and elaborated in order to suggest new possibilities of development based on the chemical and physical characteristics of wine by-products.

Currently, agricultural production generates large amounts of organic waste, both from the maintenance of farms and crops, and from the industrialization of the product. Generally, these wastes are accumulated in landfills or burned, sometimes causing environmental problems. However, many scientific studies suggest that these residues are rich in bioactive compounds, so these matrices could be revalued for their use in food, cosmetic, or pharmaceutical industries. In this way, the circular and sustainable economy is favored, while obtaining products with high added value. In this case, this approach is applied to the residues generated from kiwi production, since numerous studies have shown the high content of kiwi in bioactive compounds of interest, such as phenolic compounds, vitamins, and carotenoids. These compounds have been reported for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial activities, among other beneficial properties for health such as its use as prebiotic. Therefore, this article reviews the potential of residues derived from industrial processing and agricultural maintenance of kiwi as promising matrices for the development of new nutraceutical, cosmetic, or pharmacological products, obtaining, at the same time, economic returns and a reduction of the environmental impact of this industry, attaching it to the perspective of the circular economy.

In pharmaceutical manufacturing, the utmost aim is reliably producing high quality products. Simulation approaches allow virtual experiments of processes in the planning phase and the implementation of digital twins in operation. The industrial processing of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) into tablets requires the combination of discrete and continuous sub-processes with complex interdependencies regarding the material structures and characteristics. The API and excipients are mixed, granulated if required, and subsequently tableted. Thereby, the structure as well as the properties of the intermediate and final product are influenced by the raw materials, the parametrized processes and environmental conditions, which are subject to certain fluctuations. In this study, for the first time, an agent-based simulation model is presented, which enables the prediction, tracking, and tracing of resulting structures and properties of the intermediates of an industrial tableting process. Therefore, the methodology for the identification and development of product and process agents in an agent-based simulation is shown. Implemented physical models describe the impact of process parameters on material structures. The tablet production with a pilot scale rotary press is experimentally characterized to provide calibration and validation data. Finally, the simulation results, predicting the final structures, are compared to the experimental data.

The Taiwan Tilapia is an important aquaculture product in Taiwan. The aquatic by-products generated during Tilapia processing, such as fish bones and skin, are rich in minerals and protein. We aimed to explore the effect of a dietary supplement, comprising a mixture of fermented Tilapia by-products and Monostroma nitidum oligosaccharides as the raw materials, combined with physical training on exercise performance and fatigue. We used a mouse model that displays a phenotype of accelerated aging. Male senescence-accelerated mouse prone-8 (SAMP8) mice were divided into two control groups—with or without physical training—and supplemented with different doses (0.5 times: 412 mg/kg body weight (BW)/day; 1 time: 824 mg/kg BW/day; 2 times: 1648 mg/kg BW/day) of fermented Tilapia by-products and Monostroma nitidum oligosaccharide-containing mixture and combined with exercise training groups. Exercise performance was determined by testing forelimb grip strength and with a weight-bearing exhaustive swimming test. Animals were sacrificed to collect physical fatigue-related biomarkers. Mice dosed at 824 or 1648 mg/kg BW/day showed improvement in their exercise performance (p < 0.05). In terms of biochemical fatigue indicators, supplementation of 824 or 1648 mg/kg BW/day doses of test substances could effectively reduce blood urea nitrogen concentration and lactate concentration and increase the lactate ratio (p < 0.05) and liver glycogen content post-exercise (p < 0.05). Based on the above results, the combination of physical training and consumption of a dietary supplementation mixture of fermented Tilapia by-products and Monostroma nitidum oligosaccharides could improve the exercise performance of mice and help achieve an anti-fatigue effect.
