Abstract The knee joint is the largest and one of the most vulnerable and most frequently damaged joints in the human body. It is characterized by a complex structure. All articular surfaces are covered with hyaline cartilage. This cartilage has minimal regenerative capacity. Under the influence of cyclical micro-injuries, inflammatory mediators, prolonged excessive pressure or immobility, and thus disturbance of tissue nutrition, the cartilage becomes susceptible to damage and is easily covered with villi, cracks and abrasion. As a result, this translates into changes in the friction and lubrication processes within the joint and may affect the generated vibroacoustic processes. In this study, the signals recorded in a group of 28 volunteers were analysed, 15 of them were healthy people (HC) and 13 were people diagnosed with osteoarthritis (OA) qualified for surgery. The study aims to check the usefulness of the EMD (Empirical Mode Decomposition) algorithm in the filtration procedures of vibroacoustic signals. This algorithm is most often used in the analysis of signals that are most often nonlinear and non-stationary. Selected statistical indicators, such as RMS, VMS, variance and energy, were determined for the signals constituting the sum of the IMFs (Intrinsic Mode Functions) 1-8, having a normal distribution in the assessment of damage to the articular cartilage of the knee joint. Statistical analysis was performed for the values of individual indicators obtained. The vibroacoustic signals were recorded using CM-01B contact microphones placed in the central part of the medial and lateral joint fissure for movement in the range of 90°–0°–90° in closed kinetic chains (CKC) in the control group (HC) and the group of patients diagnosed with osteoarthritis (OA).

This study aims to determine the effect giving of ethylacetate fraction of leather  purple sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam, on levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) serum in mice hyperglicemia were induced with streptozocin dose of 50 mg/kgBW. Mice were divided into 5 groups, each group consisting of 3 tails, group I is a negative control, group II is a positive control, group III,IV and V is given ethylacetate fraction a dose of 100 mg/kgBW, 300 mg/kgBW, and 600 mg/kgBW. Ethyl Acetate Fraction leather purple sweet potato given orally for 15 days after the animal is declared hyperglicemia and measurement of blood glucose levels on 5, 10, and 15 day after giving test preparation in animal experiments. On the 16 day throughout the mice were taken serum levels measured malondialdehid. The statistical analysis results showed that giving of ethyl acetate fraction of leather purple sweet potato at a dose of 100 mg/kgBW, 300 mg/kgBW, and 600 mg/kgBW can lower blood glucose levels in mice hyperglycemia significantly (p<0.05). Malondialdehid levels on average in each group is 1.35 nmol/ml, 3.00 nmol/ml, 2.72 nmol/ml, 2.20 nmol/ml and 2.61 nmol/ml, the results of statistical analysis showed a decrease in melondialdehid serum levels were significantly (p<0.05), where a dose of 300 mg/kgBW is an effective dose for lowering blood glucose levels followed by decreased levels of malondialdehid which give effect approaching negative control.

The internal detector in a pipeline needs to use the ground marker to record the elapsed time for accurate positioning. Most existing ground markers use the magnetic flux leakage testing principle to detect whether the internal detector passes. However, this paper uses the method of detecting vibration signals to track and locate the internal detector. The Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD) algorithm is used to extract features, which solves the defect of large noise and many disturbances of vibration signals. In this way, the detection range is expanded, and some non-magnetic flux leakage internal detectors can also be located. Firstly, the extracted vibration signals are denoised by the VMD algorithm, then kurtosis value and power value are extracted from the intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) to form feature vectors, and finally the feature vectors are input into random forest and Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) for classification. Experimental research shows that the method designed in this paper, which combines VMD with a machine learning classifier, can effectively use vibration signals to locate the internal detector and has the characteristics of high accuracy and good adaptability.

After alluding to the comparatively superficial manner in which physiologists, with the exception of the brothers Weber, have hither-to investigated the structure and movements of the joints, the author gave an abstract of the general results which he had formerly obtained in an examination of the knee-joint, made with reference to Meyer's valuable observations. He had found that, as stated by Meyer, the thigh and leg rotate on one another in opposite directions,—at the close of extension, and at the commencement of flexion; and that the co-ordinated movements in the patella, the ligaments, and muscles correspond generally with the account given by that observer; but in addition he had ascertained what had previously escaped notice,1. That the articular surfaces of the femur, tibia, and patella are not continuous but faceted surfaces.

BACKGROUND: College students are a high-risk subpopulation of psychological disorders. The problem of various adverse phenomena and consequences caused by excessive pressure on college students has gradually become the focus of social and psychological academic circles. However, studies related to individual self-concept and psychological pressure are rare. OBJECTIVE: To explore the impact of sports dance exercises on college students’ psychological pressure and improve the psychological effects of their self-satisfaction. METHODS: College students were taken as research objects, randomly divided into a control group and an observation group. The observation group is intervened with sports dance exercises. The observation group was intervened with sports dance exercises. The stress response characteristic questionnaire and multidimensional self-satisfaction rating scale were utilized to measure college students’ conditions before and after the intervention. Finally, the obtained data were statistically analyzed. RESULTS: Generally, the psychological stress response of college students was mild, with self-satisfaction and various dimensions at a moderately higher level. No significant differences were discovered in the psychological stress response and self-satisfaction level between the control group and the observation group before intervention (P >  0.05), which were homogeneous. Compared with the data obtained before the intervention, after the intervention, the control group scores were slightly reduced in all dimensions of the psychological stress response and self-satisfaction. In contrast, the scores were significantly increased in the experimental group (P <  0.05). Psychological stress response could reliably explain 30.4%of the total self-satisfaction variance (P <  0.01). The negative self-evaluation was the most important variable affecting self-satisfaction, followed by poor interpersonal communication and poor sleeping quality. CONCLUSIONS: Sports dance exercises could alleviate the psychological stress of college students and improve their self-satisfaction. Colleges and universities should include sports dance in the content of optional public courses and encourage more college students to actively participate in sports dance exercises to improve their mental health.

AbstractEpilepsy is a persistent neurological disorder impacting over 50 million people around the world. It is characterized by repeated seizures defined as brief episodes of involuntary movement that might entail the human body. Electroencephalography (EEG) signals are usually used for the detection of epileptic seizures. This paper introduces a new feature extraction method for the classification of seizure and seizure-free EEG time segments. The proposed method relies on the empirical mode decomposition (EMD), statistics and autoregressive (AR) parameters. The EMD method decomposes an EEG time segment into a finite set of intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) from which statistical coefficients and autoregressive parameters are computed. Nevertheless, the calculated features could be of high dimension as the number of IMFs increases, the Student’s t-test and the Mann–Whitney U test were thus employed for features ranking in order to withdraw lower significant features. The obtained features have been used for the classification of seizure and seizure-free EEG signals by the application of a feed-forward multilayer perceptron neural network (MLPNN) classifier. Experimental results carried out on the EEG database provided by the University of Bonn, Germany, demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method which performance assessed by the classification accuracy (CA) is compared to other existing performances reported in the literature.

We compared the prevalence of ultrasound signs of adenomyosis in women with endometriosis who underwent surgery to those who were managed conservatively. This was a retrospective study of women evaluated at a tertiary endometriosis referral center who underwent 2D/3D transvaginal ultrasound. Adenomyosis diagnosis was based on the presence of at least three sonographic signs. The study group subsequently underwent laparoscopic surgery while the control group continued conservative management. Statistical analysis compared the two groups for demographics, symptoms, clinical data, and sonographic findings. The study and control groups included 244 and 158 women, respectively. The presence of any, 3+, or 5+ sonographic signs of adenomyosis was significantly more prevalent in the study group (OR = 1.93–2.7, p < 0.004, 95% CI; 1.24–4.09). After controlling for age, for all findings but linear striations, the OR for having a specific feature was higher in the study group. Women in the study group with ≥ 5 sonographic signs of adenomyosis had more than twice the risk of experiencing infertility (OR = 2.31, p = 0.012, 95% CI; 1.20–4.45). Sonographic signs of adenomyosis are more prevalent in women with symptomatic endometriosis who underwent surgery compared with those who continued conservative management. Women with 5+ findings have a significantly increased risk of infertility. Adenomyosis on ultrasound should be considered in the management decisions regarding these patients.

This study analyzed the effects of an exercise training program consisting of a knee joint complex exercise device (leg-link system) with digitally controlled active motion function and squat movement on physical fitness and gait ability of elderly women aged 70 or above. Fifty four (54) elderly women aged 70 or above were divided into three groups as control group (n = 18), aerobic training group (n = 18), and combined training group with resistance and aerobic exercise (n = 18). Health-related physical fitness, gait ability-related physical fitness, and the temporal and spatial parameters of gait ability were compared. The health-related physical fitness after the 12-week training was not significantly altered in control group, whereas combined training group showed significant increase in all factors (p < 0.05) and aerobic training group showed significant increase (p < 0.05) only in the physical efficiency index. The gait ability-related physical fitness and all items of the temporal and spatial parameters of gait were found to have significantly increased (p < 0.05) in combined training group after the 12-week exercise training; however, in aerobic training group, only the factors related to muscular endurance and balance showed significant increase (p < 0.05). This study suggested that the exercise training consisting of knee joint complex exercise with digitally controlled active motion function and squat exercise for strengthening lower extremities and core muscles had positive effects on enhancing the ambulatory competence in elderly women.

A novel multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis based on improved empirical mode decomposition for the non-linear and non-stationary vibration signal of machinery is proposed. As the intrinsic mode functions selection and Kolmogorov–Smirnov test are utilized in the detrending procedure, the present approach is quite available for contaminated data sets. The intrinsic mode functions selection is employed to deal with the undesired intrinsic mode functions named pseudocomponents, and the two-sample Kolmogorov–Smirnov test works on each intrinsic mode function and Gaussian noise to detect the noise-like intrinsic mode functions. The proposed method is adaptive to the signal and weakens the effect of noise, which makes this approach work well for vibration signals collected from poor working conditions. We assess the performance of the proposed procedure through the classic multiplicative cascading process. For the pure simulation signal, our results agree with the theoretical results, and for the contaminated time series, the proposed method outperforms the traditional multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis methods. In addition, we analyze the vibration signals of rolling bearing with different fault types, and the presence of multifractality is confirmed.

Background:The relationship between osteoporosis and osteoarthritis (OA) is complex and contradictory. Some studies suggest a protective effect of OA in osteoporosis [1-2]. However, other studies show that increased bone mineral density (BMD) in OA not only does not reduce the risk of fractures, but can also increase it [3-4].Objectives:To assess the 10-year probability of osteoporotic fractures using the FRAX calculator in women with OA of the knee joint.Methods:The study included 22 women (average age 63.7±1.01 years) diagnosed with ACP of the knee joint according to the ACR criteria (1991). The Control Group included 24 conditionally healthy women without OA knee joint, with an average age of 63.6±1.37 years.The BMD (g/cm2) and the T-criterion (standard deviation, SD) of the neck of the femur and lumbar spine (LI-LIV) were evaluated by the method of two-power X-ray absorption (DXA) (apparatus «Lunar Prodigy Primo», USA). 10-year probability of major osteoporotic fractures (clinically significant fracture of the spine, distal fracture of the forearm, fracture of the proximal femur, or fracture of the shoulder) and fracture of the proximal thigh with the FRAX calculator (version 3.5 for Russian population).Results:An osteopenic syndrome in the cohort under investigation was found in 42 (91.3%) patients, of whom osteopenia in 24 (52.2%) women and osteoporosis in 18 (39.1%). A normal BMD is registered in 4 (8.7%) patients.In the group of patients with knee joint OA, only 2 (9.1%) of women had a normal BMD, 11 (50.0%) of osteoporosis, and 9 (40.9%). Osteopenic syndrome is generally found in 20 (90,9%) patients.In the control group, osteopenic syndrome has been diagnosed in 22 (91,7%) of whom: osteopenia in 13 (54.2%), osteoporosis in 9 (37.5%) patients. Two (8.3%) women had a normal BMD. There were no statistically significant differences in the structure of the osteopenic syndrome among the studied groups (p=0.961).An analysis of the 10-year probability of major osteoporotic fractures found that women with OA knee joint had the above probability of 12.3±0.91, and in the control group 14.2±1.06 (p=0.085).The 10-year probability of fracture of the proximal femur in women with OA was statistically less significant than in the control group: 1.55 (0.70;1.98) and 2.10 (1.20;2.95), (p=0.031), respectively.Conclusion:The total incidence of the osteopenic syndrome in the cohort under investigation was 91.3% (90.9% in women with OA, 91.7% in the control group). The frequency of registration of osteopenia and osteoporosis in women with OA did not differ statistically significantly from the control group. The probability of major osteoporotic fractures within 10 years was comparable in these groups.
