Abstract The aim was to study the milk productivity and zinc species in dairy Holstein cow blood serum depending on the level of lead accumulation. Fat and protein content in milk was assessed by the FIL-IDF procedure. The major zinc species in dairy cow blood serum were tested using a hybrid high-performance liquid chromatography-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry technique. The lead content in the blood serum of all animals was in the intervals of the physiological standard. Animals with low-normal values (Pb concentration up to the 25th percentile) and high-normal values (Pb concentration above the 75th percentile) were taken to form comparison groups. Animals with high-normal values of lead had a statistically significant decrease of milk yield by 21.8% and daily production of fat by 16.4%. There was a tendency towards a decrease in the yield of protein and its percentage. It was found that the zinc content in all studied fractions (α 2-macro-globulin tetramer, α 2-macro-globulin dimer, albumin, citrates, total content) was statistically significantly lower (more than 4.8 times) in the group with high-normal values of lead. The change in the redistribution of zinc-binding ligands was found depending on the level of lead in the blood. The relative content of the α2-macro-globulin tetramer and α2-macro-globulin dimer was significantly higher by 7% and by 13% in the group with high-normal values of lead. There was the decrease in the level of animal productivity, the metal-ligand forms of zinc underwent changes despite the absence of a significant difference in the total level of lead in the blood serum. This indicates a high potential for the use of speciation analysis in the laboratory diagnosis and allows predicting and correcting zinc metabolism. The studies were performed in accordance with the research plan for 2019–2021 of the Federal Research Center of Biological Systems and Agrotechnologies RAS No. 0526-2019-0001.

Under malignant growth, the alterations of blood serum biochemical parameters including activity of studied enzymes were observed. The drug “Grinization GRIN R” was shown to stabilize the tumor growth of Guerin’s carcinoma as well as biochemical parameters in the range close to normal values. The changes of protein metabolism parameters appeared to be significant. Also the considerable changes of AST and ALT activities were demonstrated. In the case, there was significant difference between the groups studied (р<0.05). Administration of rats with drug “Grinization Grin R” in different doses led to decreasing of average tumor volume in dynamics. Increasing and normalization of total protein level in rats with Guerin’s carcinoma was established under “Grinization GRIN” administration in doses 115 mg/kg and 270 mg/kg. The meaning of albumin concentration approached to physiological normal value under “Grinization GRIN” administration in dose 270 mg/kg. Meanwhile AST and ALT activities were approaching to normal values in rats with Guerin’s carcinoma under “Grinization GRIN” administration in dose 270 mg/kg. Such effects were observed mainly at the 18th and 23th days after tumor inoculation in comparison with tumor control (Guerin's carcinoma) values.

The article is devoted to the solution of an urgent problem- influence of different lighting modes on the dairy productivity of cows. 2 groups of cows with 20 heads each were formed. In control group, light in the cowshed was 50-75 Lux for a light period of 7.5 h in January to 16.5 h in June, and in experimental group - 150-200 Lux and 16 h, respectively. It was found that the intensity and duration of illumination affects physiological state, reproductive ability and milk productivity of cows. In the experimental group of cows, compared with the control group, hemoglobin content in blood increased by 4.6% (P < 0.01), red blood cells - by 20.6% (P < 0.05), total protein - by 11.2% (P < 0.001), glucose - by 39.1% (P < 0.05). There was a tendency to increase the total calcium and inorganic phosphorus in blood serum of cows of the experimental group. The level of alkaline phosphatase in blood serum of cows in the control group was 71.5% (P < 0.01) higher than that of cows in the experimental group. Milk yield per 1 cow in the experimental cowshed was 433 kg more than in the control. The cost of 1 kg of milk in the experimental group was 0.94 rubles lower, and the profitability of milk production and sales is 9.42% higher than in the control group. To increase the milk productivity of cows, it is recommended to increase light level in barns for tethered keeping to 150-200 Lux, with the duration of lighting in the winter and transition periods of year up to 16 hours per day.

Combination of genotypes of main types’ genetic markers causes milk productivity in cattle. The article studies correlation between kappa casein genotypes (C3N3), beta-lactoglobulin (LGB), their complexes and milk production indices in cows bred under equal conditions at a breeding farm. The calculation of parental milk yield and fat indices between the three breeds showed a significant difference (P>0,999) of PCI of Ayrshire and Holstein cattle breed milk yield - 3395 kg, PCI of fat - 0,22%; between Holstein and Yaroslavl cattle breeds - 3200 kg, PCI offat - 0,16%. A significant difference of realization indices of protein between all three breeds was not stated. The highest realization ofparental milk yield index was stated - between Ayrshire and Yaroslavl cattle breeds- 113%, Holstein cattle breed - 88%. As for the fat and protein indices, all three cattle breeds showed a high realization of PCI from 98% to 109%. However, Holstein cattle breed showed the highest percentage: protein - 101%, fat - 109%. A significant difference of PCI realization of milk productivity in CSN3 and LGB genotypes was not stated. It was also stated that there is a tendency of high level parental indices realization when there is a higher number of B-allele variants in genotypes of cows.

ABSTRACT: This study aimed to carry out a serum epidemiological survey of goat arthritis encephalitis in the sisal region of Bahia, Brazil, and to evaluate risk factors. We evaluated 831 samples of goat blood serum among males and females older than six months, from 49 farms distributed among the municipalities of Araci, Cansanção, Conceição do Coité, Itiúba, Monte Santo, Nordestina, Queimadas, Santa Luz, São Domingos and Valente. An epidemiological questionnaire for the analysis of possible risk factors was applied. All sera were tested for immune-agar gel. The seroprevalence obtained in surveyed herds was 1.56% (13/831). There was significant difference (p<0.05) for animal racial pattern, type of farming and breeding systems. However, when considering herds with predominantly dairy breeds (Saanen and Alpine Pardo), the seropositivity in animals from Valente, Conceição do Coité and São Domingos amounted to 5.06% (12/237). In these municipalities, from 14 properties analyzed, five (38.5%) had at least one positive-testing animal. This result is extremely worrying when one considers that few control measures are adopted by farmers to prevent the goat arthritis encephalitis in the most important dairy region of Bahia state.

The aim: To study the dynamics of the level of 25(ОН)D, ІL-4, ІL-10, and IgG in the blood serum of children with allergic diseases and to study the clinical effect of vitamin D3 administration n different dosage in this category of patients. Materials and methods: 153 children aged 3-16 with such allergic diseases as bronchial asthma, atopic dermatitis and allergic rhinitis have been examined. The level of 25(ОН) D was determined using the electrochemiluminescence method, while the levels of ІL-4, ІL-10 and IgG were assessed using enzyme-linked immunoassay. Results: In the contrasting of the initial level of 25(ОН)D in the blood serum of patients after administration of 2,000 IU of vitamin D3 over 2 months, after summer and after treatment with cholecalciferol in higher doses (4,000–5,000 IU) over 2 months, significant difference was established between the indicators by the Friedman criterion (λ2 = 41.211; P < 0.05). In the similar contrasting of ІL-4 indicators, a significant difference between them was traced (P < 0.05) in the period of acute disease as well as the downward tendency in the period of remission. In the similar contrasting of ІL-10 indicators, a significant difference between them was traced (P < 0.05) in the acute period and in the period of disease remission. In the similar contrasting of IgG indicators, a downward tendency was traced in the period of acute disease and significant decrease (P < 0.05) – in the period of disease remission. In the contrasting of 25(ОН)D and ІL-4, ІL-10 figures a strong reverse correlation relationship was traced. The therapeutic effect of the administration of vitamin D3 medication in different doses in children with allergic diseases was traced. Conclusions: The data obtained shows that in the treatment of children with bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis and atopic dermatitis the complex therapy should include vitamin D3 medications in different doses within a long-term course of treatment.

Karakachan sheep represents an endangered, indigenous sheep breed from Balkan Peninsula. There is relatively little information about the characteristics of this sheep breed in the veterinary scientific literature. The aim of this research was an examination of certain metabolic profile parameters of the Karakachan sheep blood serum, and variability of their concentrations in comparison to age and some other indigenous sheep breeds from Balkans. Examination was conducted on 14 clinically healthy sheep divided in two age groups. Blood samples were collected by puncture of v. jugularis and blood serum was separated after spontaneous coagulation. The concentrations of total protein, albumin, calcium, inorganic phosphorus, aspartate amino transferase (AST) and ?- glutamyl transferase (GGT) were determined. In relation to age of Karakachan sheep, statistically significant difference between the calculated mean values of examined parameters was not observed. A statistically significant difference was found between the mean concentrations of the studied parameters in Karakachan sheep and other breeds in total protein (Tsigai, Dubrovnik and Dalmatian sheep), albumin (Dalmatian), calcium and inorganic phosphorus (Tsigai, Dubrovnik) and AST's (Dalmatian, Karakachan sheep from Bulgaria).

The study assessed the concentration of heavy metals in three oil spill sites in Emohua local government area in Rivers State, Nigeria. Soil samples were collected at depth 0-30cm for surface soil samples and up to 10m for sub-surface soil samples depending on the depth of borehole. Groundwater samples were collected from drilled boreholes while the surface water samples were collected from fishponds or water bodies (rivers) close to the oil spill sites. The samples taken from the oil spill sites were analysed to determine the level of concentration of 10 Department of Petroleum Resource (DPR) specified heavy metals (Cd, Zn, Cu, Pb, Cr, Ba, Ni, Hg, As, and Co). BUCK Scientific Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) was used in detecting the concentration of the heavy metals. For the surface soil, Pb concentration in site A and B were significantly higher than what was obtained at site C, with a mean concentration of 219.70, 130.01 and 3.41mg/kg respectively for the three sites. The mean lead (Pb) concentration obtained in the surface soil was within DPR and United State Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) acceptable limits. Barium also has significant concentration in both the surface soil and sub-surface soil. Kruskal Wallis test indicated significant difference in the Pb, Cd, Zn, Cu, Cr and Ba concentration in surface/topsoil among the three sites and also indicated significant difference in the concentrations of Pb, Cd, Cr, Ni, Ba and As in sub-surface soil among the sites. Little heavy metal concentration was found in both the groundwater and surface water. The study showed that even if some heavy metals were detected at the oil spill sites, they do not pose any serious health risk, as all the heavy metals in the four environmental media at the three sampling sites were below the national limit stipulated by the Department of Petroleum Resource (DPR), Nigeria.

The paper presents the results of studies of milk productivity of black-and-white cows depending on the age of the first insemination and live weight at the first calving in the conditions of the Irkutsk region. The dynamics of heifer rearing by year, milk productivity of cows in the 1st and 3rd lactations depending on the intensity of their development has been studied. The experiment was conducted on farm materials from the Irkutsk Region using generally accepted zootechnical, analytical, variation and statistical research methods from 2016 to 2020. Live weight of heifers at all ages met the requirements of the elite and elite-record classes. Analysis of the data showed that the growth rate of the animals increased during 5 years (6.0%, 6.8, 2.3 and 4.8% respectively with a significant difference p ≥ 0.90). With the increased intensity of heifer rearing, an increase in milk yield over 305 days of the first lactation was observed. The highest milk production was noted in the 1st (5309-5476 kg) and 3rd (5418-5817 kg) lactations in cows with the first fruitful insemination at 13-14 months. The lowest 1st and 3rd lactation yields are obtained from cows inseminated at 20 months of age or older. Higher milk production in the first and third lactations was obtained from cows with a live weight at first calving of 541-550 kg, 551 kg and higher (5197-5164, 5436-5545 kg respectively). Less milk production was obtained from cows with a live weight at first calving of up to 500 kg (4567-5122, 4943-5009 kg). The results obtained make it possible to reveal the influence of the intensity of rearing heifers on the productive qualities of cows.

Abstract. Dwarf mice show delayed testicular growth and their adult testis weights are half the normal value. The aims of the present work were firstly, to compare the developmental profiles of plasma gonadotropins and of testicular cell multiplication and differentiation in dwarf vs normal mice and secondly, to determine the effect of hMG supplementation on dwarf mice. In the dwarf mice no pubertal rise in plasma FSH was observed, and the adult values remained very low when compared with those of normal mice; plasma LH decreased after 40 days of age and remained equal to half the normal values. In adults, testicular testosterone content was greatly increased in dwarf mice compared with normal mice, whereas plasma testosterone and accessory gland weights were reduced. At 24 days of age, the total numbers per testis of Leydig and Sertoli cells were reduced in dwarf vs normal mice, whereas in adult mice their differentiation, but not their total numbers, was reduced. This resulted in lower daily production of leptotene primary spermatocytes and of round spermatids in dwarf than in normal mice. hMG supplementation promoted Leydig and Sertoli cell multiplication, but did not produce full differentiation, resulting in increased daily production of round spermatids. In conclusion, in adult dwarf mice a deficiency in plasma gonadotropins prevents full differentiation of Leydig and Sertoli cells without affecting the number of these cells.
