This paper will present a few of the results of qualitative, case study research conducted among students in six cities in Central and Eastern Europe. It will describe the use of images in interviews and how this enabled digging beyond cultural, customary religious belief to uncover a search for ultimate meaning and spirituality. A summary of the findings regarding the emerging values of the young people and their descriptions of what is significant to them in life will be related to Savage, Collins-Mayo and Mayo's research conducted in the UK, specifically to their theories of formative and transformative spirituality and the happy midi-narrative. The tension between a young person's actual situation and their dream about their ideal life will be discussed in terms of the research findings regarding the students' use of celebrity images in their living space. The young people's values, as they emerged from the research, will be contrasted with the values and practices of churches in this region, as seen through the young people's perceptions of traditional church and as articulated by local church leaders. The paper will include a short analysis of the current religious situation in former Soviet countries in light of the finding of the research..

Indisputably, networking offers many benefits in business. However, at the same time, it may also restrict the freedom of its actors. The aim of the paper is to complement the knowledge on the benefits and delimitations of networking by a two-step process. Firstly, the actors’ aims for independency and associability in their business relations are examined and based on these aims, different tendencies for networking are found. Furthermore, the paper discusses the resource portfolios of actors, and searches linkages between the actors’ resources and their networking tendencies. The research question of the paper is: “How the resource portfolio of an actor correlates with its tendency to form networks?” Case study research is used as the research strategy. A group of Finnish biomass heating enterprises is studied as the case, and four groups with different networking tendencies are recognized and further assessed. The results provide evidence that the actors tend to form different networks which differ from each other by the power relations and the openness of sharing social capital. In addition, it is noted that the actors differ in their resource portfolios. That creates dissimilar motives for cooperation and networking which are well-reflected with the four networking types found in the study. Key words: associability, bioenergy, independency, networking, resources.

The main objective of this research is to analyze the use of dialogue journal to teach writing. This case study research was conducted at one of senior high school in Cianjur. The research purposively sampling twenty students of grade XI. In order to collect the data, I used three techniques of data collection namely interview, observation, and document analysis. The research findings revealed that: (1) The reasons behind the implementation of dialogue journal were because the teacher wanted to give students opportunity to fulfill the need of reflection and expressing ideas while the belief relied on the standpoint to give non-threatening atmosphere for students to freely express themselves and to give opportunities for teacher to observe students’ progress and their personal background. The procedure of dialogue journal was done five up to seven minutes which involved three parts, those were greeting/ salutation, body, and closing. While, the learning situation was positive in the case of interaction, attitude, and motivation. Students’ responses were classified into open-ended responses which displayed students’ positive thought, feeling, and reaction because they had experienced many advantages in doing dialogue journal as well as silence which indicated the moment when the students reduced interaction to only center their attention in writing dialogue journal; (2) Teacher’s difficulties in doing dialogue journal were managing time to handle with students’ dialogue journal overload and responding to super active students. Whereas, students’ difficulties in doing dialogue journal were writing in limited time, finding suitable vocabulary, using correct grammar, and responding as well as giving suggestions to the questions given by the teacher; and (3) To cope with such difficulties, the teacher should manage a schedule to be able to correct students’ work and respond to the students’ questions. Furthermore, students’ difficulties in doing dialogue journal could be solved by giving more language skills input, doing peer correction, and encouraging autonomous learning. Keywords: Dialogue Journal, Use, Teach Writing.

The investigation of information systems (IS) development usually relies on two different research approaches, namely, quantitative approach and qualitative approach. Both approaches are equally important and useful to the development of IS theories. No research approach should be considered to be superior or inferior to the other. However, the mainstream of Chinese IS research mainly follows the quantitative approach, whereas the qualitative approach is generally viewed as “too soft” or not scientific enough. As a qualitative approach, desk case-study research approach has been widely accepted and applied in a number of IS research in the West. However, in China, this approach is merely considered as an effective approach for teaching, but not valid for scientific research investigations. Thus, Chinese IS research have neglected a number of important experiences, viewpoints and lessons, which can be elicited from IS case-studies occurred in the past. This chapter generally aims at introducing and discussing the desk case-study approach in IS research. Specifically, this chapter discusses this approach through four incremental research stages, namely, defining the research question, establishing theoretical framework from literature review, case-study selection, and theory formulation through case-study analysis. Furthermore, two exemplary research projects are presented in this chapter to further clarify and substantiate the research methods, tools and processes. It is expected that by formulating a rigorous research framework and specifying incremental processes of theory development, this research approach could be accepted and used by Chinese IS scholars in the future.

AbstractThis paper sketches out a number of sociolinguistic themes regarding Mexican indigenous multilingualism, exploring a global sociolinguistic framework to understand the possibilities of continuity of Mexico’s indigenous languages and their different challenges. In pursuit of an understanding of Mexican indigenous sociolinguistic complexity a series of theoretical and methodological as well as historical and empirical traits, together with our own revitalizing efforts vis-à-vis key institutional contexts, are investigated. For this purpose, case study research findings are highlighted (e.g. Nahuatl), findings which also represent different poles of the language shift-retention continuum (e.g. Kiliwa versus Yucatec Maya).

In today’s educational landscape educators and administrators are confronted with unprecedented challenges as they have to hastily move education online. Emergency remote teaching is a response to this crisis. However, the research about the efficacy of remote teaching is scarce because of COVID-19 which is a rapidly evolving situation and also because of a lack of clarity about what constitutes instruction during an emergency. Moreover, the actual practices for emergency remote teaching are unclear in the context of Kuwait. This study aims to investigate how educators are implementing emergency remote instruction in order to reshape education during the COVID-19 pandemic in Kuwait where traditional instructional approaches and practices are dominant. Using a case study research design, the researchers delve into educators’ perspectives by collecting qualitative data from interviews. The results indicate that educators used multiple pedagogical approaches to enhance student participation and learning. It also revealed the problematic aspects of remote or distance education. Finally, the results were used to construct and present a Novel Remote Learning Framework, which is an empirically- grounded, theoretically-informed conceptualization of emergency remote instruction which is expected to reshape instruction during the COVID-19 pandemic.
