The article is aimed to study the correlation between the time spent on Facebook and GPA scores of post-graduate students of Afghanistan. Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram, and many other social networks are used broadly by scholars inside and outside the campuses. However, these social platforms are a mean for communication and have paved the way for interactive educational practices, but still there are concerns on the relationships of these social applications on students’ educational developments. Reviewing the literature, the study identified that there are few articles on the impact of social media on teaching and learning in Afghanistan which are conducted in different context as well as applied different methods and observations. Therefore, this article intended to use a quantitative approach and descriptive survey to evaluate the GPA scores of the students and the time spent on Facebook in order to evaluate their relationships. The data is analysed performing Repeated Measure ANOVA and Pearson Correlation. The results show that there is no significant difference in the mean score of GPAs between three semester of post-graduates. It also highlights that there is no correlation between the time spent on Facebook and the GPA scores of students. To conclude, the study contributes to enrich the ongoing e-learning strategies of the higher education by underlining the potentials and restrictions of the use of social medias on students’ educational developments.

Abstract Introduction: COVID-19, an illness caused by the novel coronavirus usually presents as a mild to moderate flu like illness, but can lead to pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome and death in some patients. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic there has been special attention towards patients with diabetes. Not only is diabetes highly prevalent in patients with COVID-19, but diabetes has been reported as a significant predictor of morbidity and mortality. Furthermore, race seems to be a predictor of severity with black people dying at 2.3 times the rate of white people. Methods: Here we performed a retrospective study of 524 cases of COVID-19 at an academic center in Chicago between March 2020 until August 2020. Data were obtained from patients that consented to the study to examine the relationship between diabetes, BMI, age, and race with degree of COVID-19 severity. Not all patients had all clinical and demographic data available. COVID-19 severity was determined using a severity index obtained from the measured SpO2 divided by the FiO2/fraction of inspired oxygen times 100. Numbers ≥ 315 mmHg were defined as low severity with patients generally requiring outpatient care, while 235–314 mm Hg were classified as moderate severity generally requiring inpatient care and≤ 234 mm Hg indicated high severity generally requiring intubation/ICU care. The Pearson correlation coefficient was used for linear correlation analyses. Proportion for categorical values were compared using the Chi squared test, the means for continuous variables were compared using two-tailed t tests or one way ANOVA (with Tukey post-test) for comparisons involving more than two conditions. A multiple linear regression model was used to assess the contribution of different variables. Differences were considered statistically significant at p<0.05 Results: Among 120 patients with an A1c, 55 (46%) patients had diabetes and 65 (54%) did not have diabetes. More patients with a high severity index were seen in the cohort with diabetes compared to those without diabetes (72% compared to 28% p=0.004). Univariate analyses revealed statistically significant positive correlations with higher COVID-19 severity and older age, BMI, and African American race. ANOVA analysis revealed a statistically significant difference between increasing BMI and worse severity category with a BMI mean of 29.3 kg/m2 in the low severity category compared to 34.9 kg/m2 in the moderate severity category (p=0.006). A multi-variate analysis adjusting for all variables revealed that A1c, older age and race were positively associated with higher COVID-19 severity. Conclusion: Increased A1c, older age and race are positively and independently associated with a higher COVID-19 severity index. Further research regarding the relationship between COVID-19 and these associations is urgently needed.

The purpose of this research was to investigate how the integration of e-learning in the teaching of English Language could benefit teachers and students at the high school level. This study was done using mixed methods in the form of an exploratory sequential action research where an exploration of teachers' experiences who used e-learning strategies in the teaching of English Language classes was observed and assessed to identify successes and challenges. A total of 15 teachers were trained to use e-learning approaches to improve the teaching and learning process and provided with a training manual after revising the literature relating to the problem. This was accomplished in the study, and an evaluation of the impact was conducted. The findings revealed that the teachers commenced integrating the technologies in their classes and that they are utilizing the strategies that they were exposed to in the training process.

As COVID-19 hits the world shockingly, most nations worldwide have agreed to put educational institutions temporarily close. However, education has not stopped, but to go fully online as schools and universities could provide remote education. In this case, teachers have been struggling to adapt to the new norm to stop disease transmission. Thus, this study was conducted to investigate the impact of Online Teaching and Learning (OTL) on teachers during COVID-19. The questionnaire was distributed randomly online among 320 teachers in Malaysia. SPSS has been used to analyse the completed questionnaire to obtain descriptive and inferential statistics. Three variables that have been used in this study were effectiveness, challenges, and school reopening using Cronbach’s alpha, hypothesis testing, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and multiple linear regression. This study has shown that most teachers were affected by using online as a new method of teaching. A negative correlation between effectiveness and challenges has implied that increasing challenges would decrease online teaching effectiveness. Besides, many of the components show a significant difference in the variables in terms of socio-demographic profiles. The findings obtained would help the higher administration tackle challenges the teachers face and know the effectiveness of online teaching and learning.

This chapter explores factors affecting the development of e-learning strategies in the context of higher education institutions. The authors focus on understanding the impact of e-learning on pedagogical approaches to teaching and learning and elaborate on the challenges higher education institutions experience in implementing e-learning strategies. A combination of synchronous and asynchronous delivery allows educational establishments to not only offer a service that is good value for money but promotes action learning, and encourages ownership, independent learning, and creative thinking. This work proposes social networking scaffolding for asynchronous and synchronous e-learning, where the learner is at the centre of a social network system. Furthermore, the chapter provides guidance to higher education governors, leaders, and e-learning technicians in developing and implementing e-learning strategies.

This research aims to investigate the impact of adopting e-learning in an attempt to enhance higher thinking skills among students at the University of Jordan. In addition, we examine the relationship between e-learning and higher thinking skills and identify the effect of e-learning on higher thinking skills at the University of Jordan. The study examines the effect of using e-learning effectiveness and its effect on developing higher students’ thinking skills at the university level. The study also focuses on intellectual education for high-level thinking and the impact of the e-learning environment on a group of students at the University of Jordan. The target community for this study is undergraduate students at the University of Jordan, in Amman, Jordan. The resulted sample consists of 45 students. During the experiment, two research tools were used to analyze the relationship between the independent and dependent variables. The quantitative data are collected from the students’ perception analyzed using some statistical tests. The results of the research indicate that students could be helped to enhance higher-order thinking skills and maybe enriched by integrating an e-learning model into teaching and learning. There is also a positive relationship between e-learning and higher thinking skills at the University of Jordan. The experimental results of this study indicate several results, as the adoption of the e-learning model led to a significant improvement in the higher thinking skills of students. The e-learning model can remove many social and cultural barriers.

The aim of this research is to know the influence of e-learning learning strategy and interest in learning to accounting learning result. This research was conducted at SMK Permata Bangsa Kelurahan Jakasetia, South Bekasi Subdistrict, Bekasi City involving 56 samples taken with random sampling technique to the equivalent class. Instrument used in this research is the accounting test and questionnaire interest in student learning; and the data analysis using two-way ANAVA and Tukey Test. The results of this study obtained: (1) there is a significant difference between the learning outcomes of students who are taught with e-learning learning strategies and expository strategies in which the results of student accounting learning taught by e-learning strategy is higher than the students taught by strategy expository learning. (2) There is an interaction between students who are taught using learning strategies with interest in learning on accounting learning outcomes. (3) This means that the result of group accounting learning which is taught using e-learning learning strategy is significantly higher than that taught using expository learning strategy in students who have high learning interest. (4) While the learning result of student group accounting that is taught using e-learning strategy is same as learning result which is taught using expository learning strategy to students who have low learning interest, influenced by student environment factor and learning design factor in research.

Abstract Background Rotavirus is considered the main causal factor of severe gastroenteritis among infants and children globally. The association with severe rotavirus infection is mostly worse among the least developed countries, mainly due to inadequate access to medical care and poverty. This study was conducted to determine the seasonal effects in respect of diarrhea cases in children, the association between diarrhea cases and Rota2 vaccine in the Fanteakwa District of the Eastern Region of Ghana. Methods The study compares monthly diarrhea cases against children vaccinated with Rota2 extracted from DHIMS2 spanning May 2012 to December 2017 in Fanteakwa District. A univariate association between diarrhea cases and children vaccinated with Rota 2 was conducted using the R-software version 3.4.4 with the use of forecast, tseries and TSAPred. Pearson Correlation coefficient was also computed between monthly diarrhea cases and Rota 2 as well as lagged values of Rota 2 and Diarrhea cases. Results The study shows that February recorded the highest average number of diarrhea cases (172) over the period 2012 to 2017 with a standard deviation of 59. However, a one-way analysis of variance shows a significant difference amongst the monthly averages with an F-statistic of 0.042 and P-value of 0.064. It is observed that the correlations between each of the Rota2 doses and the lagged cases are positive, showing higher Rota2 doses a month ago ((Xt − 1),0.346 to0.735), two months ago ((Xt − 2),0.383 to 0.746), three months ago ((Xt − 3), 0.330 to 0.737) and four months ago ((Xt − 4), 0.236 to 0.723) are associated with lower diarrhea cases. The results also show that an increase in the previous two month’s Rota2 figures by 100 is associated with a significant decrease in the currently expected diarrhea cases by approximately 36. Conclusion Seasonal variations exist in the occurrence of diarrhea in children, with January recording the highest number of diarrhea cases (172). There is a relationship between episodes of diarrhea in children and Rota2 (p-value = 0.064); thus, the more children are vaccinated with Rota2, the less diarrhea cases are recorded. Diarrhea cases in Fanteakwa district are generally low, except 2013 and 2016 where the cases are higher than the rest of the other years.

Objective To explore the impact of appendectomy history on emergence of Parkinson’s disease (PD). Background Although there are several studies to investigate the relationship between appendectomy history and emergence of PD, the results are still controversial. Methods We performed a comprehensive electronic search of the literature (the Cochrane Library, PubMed, and the Web of Science) up to April 2020 to identify studies that had employed databases allowing comparison of emergence of PD between patients with and those without appendectomy history. To integrate the impact of appendectomy history on emergence of PD, a meta-analysis was performed using random-effects models to calculate the risk ratio (RR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for the selected studies, and heterogeneity was analyzed using I2 statistics. Results Four studies involving a total of 6 080 710 patients were included in this meta-analysis. Among 1 470 613 patients with appendectomy history, 1845 (.13%) had emergences of PD during the observation period, whereas among 4 610 097 patients without appendectomy history, 6743 (.15%) had emergences of PD during the observation period. These results revealed that patients with appendectomy history and without appendectomy had almost the same emergence of PD (RR, 1.02; 95% CI, .87-1.20; P = .83; I2 = 87%). Conclusion This meta-analysis has demonstrated that there was no significant difference in emergence of PD between patients with and those without appendectomy history.

<p>This study investigated whether learning strategies had made any impact on learners’ achievement and explored whether learning motivation was correlated with learning strategies. The participants of this study were the students from the EFL (English as a Foreign Language) intermediate level course at a college in Taiwan. The students were given a pretest and a posttest. The mean scores of these tests were compared with a SILL survey (Strategies Inventory for Language Learning) at the end of the investigation. The participants’ course performance was compared with their use of learning strategies. The assumption of the relationship between learning strategies and motivation is that motivated learners have a greater desire to seek out solutions or support from others and employ more strategies to process the new information. The results of this investigation revealed that only the memory strategies had a significant difference in the posttest of Group A on the independent sample t-test analysis.</p>

Aim: The aim of the study is to examine the relationship between leisure management and test anxiety levels of university students and their differentiation status in terms of some demographic variables. Methods: The relational survey model was used in the study, and there were 284 (147 male and 137 female) university students selected from the universe by convenient sampling method. Personal information form prepared by the researchers, “Leisure Management Scale (LMS)” and “Test Anxiety Inventory (TAI)” were used as data collection tools. In the analysis of the data, descriptive statistics, t-Test and Pearson Correlation analyzes were used by using SPSS 26.0 program. Results: There was no significant difference in the sub-dimensions of the leisure management scale and the total score averages according to the gender variable, while a significant difference was found in the TAI "delusional", "affective" sub-dimensions and total score averages. According to the family income variable of university students, a low-level and negative significant relationship was found in the "leisure attitude" sub-dimension of LMS, and in the total TAI and "delusional sub-dimension". A significant relationship was found between the age variable and the "goal setting and method" sub-dimension of LMS. A low and negative significant relationship was found between leisure and "goal setting and method", "leisure attitude" and total LMS score averages. In addition, while there was no significant relationship between LMS and TAI, it was found that there was a low and negative significant relationship between the "leisure attitude" sub-dimension and the test anxiety inventory and its sub-dimensions. Conclusion: It can be said that as the level of attitude towards leisure activities of university students’ increases, the feeling of exam anxiety may decrease, and the increase in free time will adversely affect the level of leisure management and attitude.
