The aim of this study was to compare the body temperature measurements at tympanic, forehead and temporal sites using infrared thermometers. A total of 1576 consecutive visitors to Singapore General Hospital at two entry locations were included in this study. Pearson correlation and Bland–Altman mean difference between sites (95% confidence interval for limits of agreement) were calculated for the relationship between the three different sites of temperatures recorded (i.e. temporal, forehead and tympanic). Of all the visitors, 27 (1.7%) had fever. Moderate positive correlation was found between temporal and forehead temperature readings ( r=0.602, mean difference (temporal – forehead), (95% limits of agreement) = 0.1 (−0.8, 0.7)), and there was very weak positive correlation between tympanic and temporal temperature readings ( r=0.177, mean difference (temporal – tympanic), (95% limits of agreement) = −0.3 (−1.7, 1.1)). Sensitivity for temporal temperature readings (⩾37.5°C) to detect febrile visitors was 3.7%, specificity was 99.6%, positive predictive value was 14.3% and negative predictive value was 98.3%. Our results demonstrate that tympanic temperature readings should be used for fever screening instead of temporal or forehead readings.

Abstract. Tanjung A, Saragih HTSSG, Trijoko, Soenarwan HP, Widianto S, Mahardhika IWS, Daryono BS. 2019. Polymorphism of myostatin gene and its association with body weight traits in a hybrid of GAMA chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus Linn. 1758). Biodiversitas 20: 3207-3212. An experiment was conducted to detect SNP of the myostatin gene and its association with the body weight of hybrid chicken crossbreed from F1 Kamper and BC1 Broiler. Four F1 Kamper hens were crossbred with BC1 Broiler rooster. Day old chick (DOC) hatched were maintained for 49 days with body weight measurement every seven days. The blood samples from 49 days old chicken were taken for DNA isolation by Chelex 5% method and then amplification of the myostatin gene. PCR products were sequenced, and sequence alignment was performed using Clustal Omega to obtain SNP. The SNP obtained was analyzed by the Pearson correlation test with the body weight of forty nine-days-old chickens. The body weight of the hybrid chicken is higher than of Pelung chicken but lower than the Broiler. There are 7 SNPs in myostatin gene exons included 2 Adenine insertions, 1 Guanine deletion, and four substitutions (C2244G, G2283A, T4842G, G7378T) that yield nine haplotypes. Six haplotypes had different protein sequences with Myostatin protein, while three haplotypes were identical to Myostatin protein. The correlation analysis showed that there was a strong positive correlation (r = 0.736) between normal Myostatin protein and mutant to chicken body weight at 49-days-old. Adenine insertion to nucleotide 2099-2100 of myostatin gene had a very strong positive correlation (r = 0.800) to 49-days-old chicken body weight, although T4842G substitution had a strong negative relationship (r = -0.773) to 49-days-old chicken body weight. Adenine insertion to nucleotide 2099-2100 of myostatin gene could be a genetic marker of heavier body weight of the hybrid chicken.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between attitudes towards physical activity and self-esteem of high school students. Three different scales were used on 626 adolescents in total who lived in Sivas, found by random sampling method. The first scale is “the Personal Information Scale” consisting of 6 items to determine the demographical characteristics of the participants; the second scale is “the Cognitive Behavioral Physical Activity Questionnaire (CBPA)”, which was developed by Schembre et al. (2015) and was adapted to Turkish by Eskiler et al. (2016) to determine the participants’ attitudes towards physical activity; and the last scale is “the Self-Esteem Scale” by Rosenberg (1965) and adapted to Turkish by Çuhadaroğlu (1985) to determine the levels of self-esteem of the participants. The study data was analyzed by SPSS 25 package software. The obtained data were represented as values of frequency (f), percentage (%), average (x-), and standard deviation (±). Pearson Correlation analysis was applied in order to determine the effect of physical activity attitudes on self-esteem. The age average of the participants was determined to be 16,28 (±0,97). The gender distribution was 312 females and 314 males, and the number of those who were participating in licensed sports was 336, and that of those who were not was 290. It was determined that there was a positive correlation between the participants’ attitude towards physical activity and their self-esteem. In conclusion, a positive correlation was found between the attitude towards physical activity and self-esteem. In the study, it was suggested that the tendencies towards physical activity should be protected.

The purpose of the study was, first, to determine whether labeling a taped therapist in terms of the therapist's religious value orientation (Christian/non-Christian) and interpersonal style (warm/cold) would change religious subjects’ perceptions of the relationship. Second, it was to determine whether the strength of attraction of the religious value orientation was greater than the interpersonal style. Seventy-one Christian evangelical undergraduates were randomly assigned to five groups. Four groups were given different information with regard to a therapist's warmth and Christianity. The fifth group acted as a control. Following structuring, all subjects listened to the same tape of a simulated therapy session. At the conclusion, the subjects rated the tape using scales to measure the dependent variables of attraction, receptivity, persuasibility, and willingness to meet. A two by two and one by five analysis of covariance and analysis of variance were computed. The only significant results found were that the control group evidenced more persuasibility than the Christian/cold and non-Christian/cold groups. Examination of group means showed a trend in the direction hypothesized for attraction and receptivity. A Pearson correlation was computed to determine the relationship between perception of the therapist's religious orientation and the dependent variables and perception of the therapist's interpersonal style and the dependent variables. There was a positive correlation between rating the therapist as Christian and the dependent variables of attraction and receptivity, p<.05. There was also a positive correlation between rating the therapist as warm and attraction and receptivity, p<.05.

The inability of teachers to accept cultural, linguistic, and religious differences caused by racial differences can have a negative impact on unity. The literature suggests that principals can play a role in addressing this issue. Thus, the purpose of this study is to determine the principal’s role in promoting teachers’ unity and to determine the relationship between the principal’s role and teachers’ unity. This study is a survey design and a quantitative method was used to collect data from 578 teachers in a population of 236,748 teachers in secondary school. The data collected was analyzed descriptively to produce mean value and standard deviation, therefore the level of principals’ role in promoting unity and the level of teachers’ unity can be interpreted. Inference analysis by Pearson correlation was done to determine r-value, therefore the hypotheses on the relationship between the two variables were tested. Overall, principals’ role attained a high level in promoting unity with a mean score of 3.85, whereas the teachers’ unity level was also at a high level with a mean score of 4.37. The result also shows that there was a positive relationship between the two variables but at a weak level with r = 0.20. This paper contributes to the body of knowledge that principals’ role in promoting unity has had an impact on the teachers’ unity level. This finding also shows that the Malaysian Education System Aspiration focusing on promoting unity is relevant and should be continuously implemented. Apart from having theories implication, the findings bear positive input for principals’ training, and also provide input for the teaching fraternity to be more respectful towards each other’s differences, thereby avoiding racism and discrimination amongst them.

Abstract Background: Screening of fetus for congenital anomaly has posed a great challenge to obstetricians and other caregivers even as early identification can improve the chances of getting the best possible outcome. Early fetal anomaly screening is usually done using nuchal translucency scan and other invasive procedures such Chorionic villus sampling and amniocentesis. Increase in Nuchal translucency thickness (NTT) above a certain baseline values has been found to predict fetus with anomaly. Baseline values in use are generated from Caucasian population even though these values are known to be population specific. Hence, their use on any given population may lead to errors and introduce potential misdiagnosis. Therefore, there is need for population specific baseline values of NTT.Objectives: The study is aimed at developing baseline values of NTT among apparently normal fetuses from pregnant women of Igbo ethnic group and to assess the relationship of NTT with maternal age and fetal gestational age (FGA).Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 658 pregnant women of Igbo Origin between 11-14 weeks of gestation at Esut Teaching Hospital (Parklane) Enugu from August 2017 to February 2018. Pilot study was done to determine the interobserver variation between sonographers while final NTT was calculated as mean of three separate measurements. The 5th, 50th and 95th percentiles were calculated using polynomial regression while Pearson correlation was used to determine the relationship between NTT, maternal age and FGA. Results: The NTT measurement was shown to be reliable and reproducible. Mean ± S/D NTT obtained was 0.92 ± 0.23 mm. There was a strong positive correlation between NTT measurements and FGA (r = 0.823, p < 0.001); while there was weak but positive correlation between NTT measurements and Maternal age (r = 0.055, p > 0.001). Conclusion: Nuchal translucency thickness measurement increases with increase in FGA while a baseline value of NTT among pregnant women of Igbo extraction has been generated.

Objective: To investigate the relationship between established acute inflammatory markers in COVID-19 patients with Mean platelet volume (MPV) and Platelet large cell ratio (P-LCR). Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective longitudinal study conducted at Fauji Foundation Hospital, Rawalpindi from 10th June to 10th August 2020. Biochemical parameters i.e. CRP, serum ferritin, LDH, and pro-BNP as well as hematological parameters (MPV and P-LCR) were noted once every week during admission of all the COVID-19 positive patients.Data were analyzed using IBM-SPSS version 23. Repeated measure ANOVA using a generalized linear model was done to check the trend of values during the duration of their stay. Pearson Correlation analysis and regression models were estimated to check the relationship of MPV and P-LCR with C- reactive protein, serum Ferritin, LDH, and pro-BNP. P-values less than 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results: The mean age of the studied group was 55.47 (SD=±15.0) years with the female to male ratio being 2:1. Mean platelet volume showed a statistically significant positive correlation with the established set of inflammatory markers other than pro-BNP with a p-value of less than 0.05.P-LCR however showed a positive correlation with CRP (p-value of less than 0.05) only with no significant correlation with other biochemical markers. Conclusion: MPV is reported on routine complete blood count report (CBC). It is readily available at even the most under-resourced health centers; therefore reporting the platelet indices does not require extra testing, sampling, or reagent cost. A statistically significant positive correlation amongst the established acute inflammatory markers and relatively understudied platelet indices (MPV) in COVID-19 provides a cost-effective, readily available, and time-efficient tool for marking disease progression.

Background: Taekwondo (TKD) is a combat sport practiced by millions of children, young people and adults around the world.1 It is an Olympic sports branch with many complex features and constant interaction between two opponents in the competitions, where attack-contact techniques are applied quickly, attacking techniques are strong2,3 but also have good flexibility. Aim: This study has been carried out to identify the relationship between body composition of taekwondo practitioners aged 14-16 who regularly practice taekwondo, and their aerobic endurance. Methods: A total of 33 registered taekwondo practitioners (17 male, 16 female) participated to this study on a voluntary basis. The age, height, weight, and body mass index of all the athletes who took part in the study are 14.96±0.80 years, 162.59±11.59 cm, 50.97±7.51 kg and 19.14±2.39 kg/m² respectively. The group who participated to the study practice taekwondo two days a week, for 2 hours each, for a period of 1.5 years. The aerobic endurance of taekwondo athletes was measured by 20-meter-long Shuttle Run Test. In order to measure the body composition values of the athletes, measurements of skinfold thickness (biceps, triceps, subscapula, subrailiac) were carried out. In calculating the body density, the formula of Durning-Womersley was used; and in calculating the body fat percentage, the formula of Siri was employed. Data was evaluated by SPSS 22.0. The normality distribution of the data obtained at the end of the study was evaluated by Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and it was observed that the data was in line with normal distribution. Following the normalcy assessment, the relationship between body compositions and aerobic endurances was determined by Pearson Correlation analysis. Results: It is possible to say that the body composition values of taekwondo practitioners aged 14-16 have positive and negative impact on their aerobic endurance. It is observed that as the values 20-meter Shuttle Run test increases, fat percentage of athletes decreases. Conclusion: It is concluded that the findings obtained from the research results support the literature, and that body composition and aerobic capacity are important as performance criteria in many studies. It is thought that it may be beneficial for the athletes to perform aerobic endurance exercises during the annual training periods to perform the necessary practices to optimize their body composition and improve their aerobic capacity. In this paper, we propose a statistical relationship between acceptance rate & first decision time of some indexed journals by applying fuzzy linear regression (FLR). We collect the data from two web sources: Elsevier journal finder, and Springer journal suggester. In this problem, we concentrate on the data of the acceptance rate and first decision time. To examine the relationship between these measures, we apply a statistical approach, which is based on correlation and regression analysis. We determine the relative error (RE) of the data collected. We plot the scatter diagram between the two measures. Pearson correlation coefficient (CC) value is also calculated. All this analysis reports that there is a moderate positive correlation between acceptance rate & first decision time.

Obesity is a significant factor in health information and increases the risk of health problems. Hence, an application that can help users to monitor their body mass index (BMI) timelines is needed. The simulation of a personalized 3D body shape may encourage women to control their BMI for a healthy body and pleasant appearance. Therefore, this paper aims to develop computerized 3D models of female shapes for various weights and heights, and consists of three important parts. First, the preparation of six avatars is described. Second, the body proportions of 6767 female datasets are analyzed to find the relationship of variables in various weights and heights. Last, 3D morphing of different female shapes is developed and analyzed experimentally for appropriate morphing parameters. Accuracy tests are carried out in three ways. First, body proportions calculated using the Z-Size Ladies application, called “Z-Size calculations,” are compared with the body proportions of data obtained from 3D scanners. Second, the Z-Size calculations are compared with tape measurements. Last, the Z-Size calculations are compared with measurements of Z-Size 3D morph models. The results of accuracy tests are shown as the relationship graphs between the BMI and body proportion measurements of chest, waist, hip, and inseam. Bland–Altman plots and Pearson correlation calculation show high correlation. In conclusion, the data obtained from the Z-Size calculations, 3D Scanner, tape measurements, and Z-Size morph models’ measurements are in good agreement and are highly correlated. The simulation of 3D female shapes for different weights and heights as proposed shows good performance and high accuracy.
