This article analyzes the main difference between the concepts of educational research activity and research activity. The main problem is the development of motivation for educational research activities at students. The authors revealed that many factors can influence students’ motivation readiness for research activities; considered the impact of those factors. The article presents various student activities that can help to increase students’ motivation for research activities; identifies and analyzes the research skills and their components (operational, content, motivation). The implementation of traditional forms of education in professional training (lectures, laboratory, practical, seminars, colloquiums, term papers and theses, consultations, individual classes) helps students master scientific information, but does not always contribute to the formation of the necessary skills. It is obvious that the introduction of new theoretical generalizations in the educational process (delivering of problem lectures, introduction of new theoretical units on the most relevant problems of modern science, expanding the list of educational literature and Internet sources, development of new research methods, multimedia presentations) will increase the interest of students in research activities. The educational process will be more successful if the University has an effective educational and research environment aimed at the development of the student’s personality.

The theses of the report are devoted to the problem of functioning of private universities in society, deter-mining their place in the educational process. A parallel is drawn with the work of private educational institutions in the United States, which have a glorious history of development dating back to the XVII century. The author of the theses relies on the analysis of special literature on this issue, formulates the success factors of American universities and the «failure factors» of Yakut private universities, and also refers to a large-scale sociological study of graduates of the Yakut Institute of Economics conducted under her leadership (Yakutsk, 469 respondents, 2016, 2017, 2018). The Author of the theses of the report con-cludes that in Russia the history of private universities began in the 90s of the twentieth century, it is quite dramatic. Branches of the capital's private universities operating in the province are at the greatest disad-vantage today. At the same time, sociologists should work on mistakes, study in detail the pros and cons of non-state universities and suggest ways to correct the situation.

Computational modeling and simulation are paramount to modern science. Computational models often replace physical experiments that are prohibitively expensive, dangerous, or occur at extreme scales. Thus, it is critical that these models accurately represent and can be used as replacements for reality. This paper provides an analysis of metrics that may be used to determine the validity of a computational model. While some metrics have a direct physical meaning and a long history of use, others, especially those that compare probabilistic data, are more difficult to interpret. Furthermore, the process of model validation is often application-specific, making the procedure itself challenging and the results difficult to defend. We therefore provide guidance and recommendations as to which validation metric to use, as well as how to use and decipher the results. An example is included that compares interpretations of various metrics and demonstrates the impact of model and experimental uncertainty on validation processes.

Studying the history of private-public partnership is still relevant for the discussion on modernizing education. In the early 20th century, it was common practice to attract private capital to solve financial problems associated with the work of educational institutions in Russia, which opened the way for using new forms of organizing the educational process. The excursion method became a groundbreaking phenomenon in the pedagogical system. Studying the history of the application of this method in regional educational institutions is of interest from the perspective of modernization of the educational process and the development of educational tourism. The authors aimed to study the practice of using the excursion method in educational institutions of Tver and determine the role of the state and public figures in organizing excursions for students from outside of Russian metropolitan areas. The authors apply the local history method that allows them to link the processes that take place in the capitals and the regions in the interdisciplinary field and highlight the regional features of modernizing the education system. Unpublished archival records are used in the article. The novelty of the study consists in the reconstruction of educational regional tourist-excursive practices of the early 20th century in the case study of Tver. The authors identify the mechanisms of the private-public partnership in the solution of organizational and financial problems of arranging excursion trips. The significance of individual public figures’ funds when arranging long excursion trips is discovered.

Although the World Scientific Society of Educators does not yet have sufficient evidence to measure the impact of school attendance on the risk of disease transmission, the harmful effects of a full transition to distance education are indisputable and affect the safety, well-being and education of children / students. and documents of many states. The purpose of the article is to determine the risks of the absence of a traditional educational process in educational institutions during the Covid-19 pandemic using the materials of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. The study was based on the following theoretical methods: analytical and descriptive methods of developing theoretical and critical sources and resources related to the implementation of the educational process, in order to determine the risks associated with providing distance learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. Analysis of contextual benefits and risks allows to determine the priority of educational institutions (or their components) to resume their work; priority of measures to reduce the risk of infection in educational institutions and communities; and focus areas for distance learning. Direct funding for education institutions most affected by the crisis, for example through formula-based funding, which gives priority to the most marginalized groups of pupils / students. From the point of view of mechanisms, scholarships for certain blocks and remittances (conditional or unconditional) to pupils / students should be considered. Tuition and other costs (school uniforms, etc.) should be waived where possible and other barriers to entry should be removed to maximize re-enrollment. We see prospects for further research in the analysis of ensuring the availability of educational materials / platforms, information, services and learning tools for people with disabilities in the process of obtaining education.
