This article explores the mass media's framing of the preaching of Miftah Maulana Habiburrahman or better known as Gus Miftah who is considered different by the public because he preaches in a club and a nightclub. This has attracted the attention of several parties such as the Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI) and some politicians. The focus of this research is to uncover and compare Gus Miftah's coverage by Detik.com and JPNN.com in the framework of Robert N. Entman's framing analysis and qualitative approaches. The results of this study indicate that the two media are framing different news. Detik.com looks more neutral by presenting Gus Miftah's missionary journey and some pro and contra responses. Meanwhile, JPNN.com featured many parties who disagreed with Gus Miftah's preaching that was carried out in nightclubs.

Abstract One of the main goals of contemporary media, along with the experts and professionals, who speak in them, has been to explain complex issues and provide the audience with clear descriptions of social reality. This is mostly achieved by the production of ideologically useful interpretative schemes that facilitate understanding of the issues present on the media agenda. An important strategy of shaping the public opinion in the way in which public affairs and the activity of social life participants is framed. Analyses of such practices have been conducted for over thirty years within various research approaches collectively referred to as framing analysis. This research provides several arguments helping one to develop a more critical perspective on the representations of social phenomena dominant in the media and discourses of symbolic elites (e.g. opinion writers, academics, experts, journalists, politicians), along with the analyses of the origin of such phenomena, moral judgements and preferred "corrective policies". One of the phenomena defined by the media in Europe as the most important one for the past several years, is the so-called "New Right". The aim of the paper is to analyse the interpretative schemes used by the journalists of four Polish opinion-forming weeklies and to describe the activity of its German manifestation – the Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the Occident (Pegida) social movement and the Alternative for Germany party (AfD).

Purpose This study discusses the frames that were used in the public debate about raising the retirement age in Belgium from 65 to 67 years. The purpose of this paper is to gain insight into the prevailing frames in order to develop counterframes that are less problematizing and can be used to bring more nuance to the debate. Design/methodology/approach An inductive framing analysis was conducted, using articles from Flemish newspapers and magazines, published in a two-year period (March 2013-March 2015). This sample was complemented by a convenience sample of texts by various stakeholders. The total sample consisted of 182 texts. Findings The analysis yielded four problematizing frames and six deproblematizing counterframes. They cover both the meaning of work for the individual, and the effect that working longer has on society. Practical implications The overview of the frames can be used as a tool to analyze existing communication, and to bring more nuance to future communication by introducing deproblematizing perspectives into the debate regarding the need to work for a longer period of time. Originality/value In addition to giving an overview of existing frames, the study also constructed alternatives which can be used to deproblematize the issue of having to work longer.

As public support is essential for implementing policies that act on the underlying social determinants of health (SDOH), it is important to consider how the public is exposed to this issue. This article explores how the SDOH have been represented in Canadian news media articles from 1993 to 2014. Of the 113 articles that explicitly included SDOH, housing (12.9%), income (10.5%), and poverty (9.3%) were most frequently reported. Over time, the reporting of SDOH increased, with peaks of coverage occurring at different times for different determinants (e.g., housing in 2005, income in 2009). A framing analysis revealed that the SDOH are presented in multiple ways: as an actionable issue and responsibility of government, a moral responsibility, and—problematically—as an issue that only affects disadvantaged groups.L’appui du public est essentiel pour mettre en œuvre des politiques portant sur les déterminants sociaux de la santé (DSS).

Abstract Background: Older people with multimorbidity often experience polypharmacy. Taking multiple medicines can be beneficial; however, some older adults are prescribed multiple medicines when they are unlikely to improve clinical outcomes and may lead to harm. Deprescribing means reducing or stopping prescription medicines which may no longer be providing benefit. While appropriate deprescribing may usually be safely undertaken, there is a lack of guidance about how to implement it in practice settings such as care homes. Implementing deprescribing in care homes is often challenging, due to differing concerns of residents, staff, clinicians, friends/family members and carers along with differences in care home structures. The STOPPING study will support the development of better deprescribing practice in care homes, considering different views and environments. This paper aims to introduce the research protocol. Methods: We will use qualitative approaches informed by the widely accepted Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) to aid analysis. To understand the barriers, facilitators and contextual factors influencing deprescribing in care homes, we will employ individual interviews with care home residents and family members, focus groups with care home staff and healthcare professionals, and observations from care homes. Then, we will examine acceptability, feasibility, and suitability of existing deprescribing approaches using cognitive interviews with care home staff and healthcare professionals. Lastly, we will use narrative synthesis to integrate findings and develop guidance for implementing a deprescribing approach for care homes.Discussion: This research will support the development of implementable approaches to deprescribing in care homes. The insights from this project will be shared with various stakeholders: care home residents, staff, pharmacists, general practitioners, nurses, and other health professionals, carers, researchers, and the public. This work will support deprescribing to be implemented effectively in care homes to benefit residents and the wider health economy.

Crises pointing to a situation that creates confusion in normal living conditions have the potential to adversely affect people and societies. Health, which is one of the areas with high probability of crisis due to its structure, is a matter of concern to almost all members of society. The media, the primary source of the public in crisis situations, has an important role in defining and framing health problems. The news frames preferred by the media can affect public opinion about who will be responsible for the crisis, from whom to expect solution. In this study, which aims to show how the crises in the health field are reflected in the newspapers in the example of Turkey in 2017, news contents have been analyzed according to the news frames revealed Valkenburg et al. (1999). The study results show that the most preferred frame for health crisis news is the responsibility and the least preferred frame is the economic frame.

This study aims at examining how Indonesia COVID-19 Task Force, as the government's right hand man, uses Framing Theory in the press statement contents, to convince the public that the handling of COVID-19 in Indonesia has been good enough. The analysis was carried out on the content of the COVID-19 Task Force press statement from September to November 2020 when there were spikes in COVID-19 cases during that period. This research uses the social construction paradigm, to find out what kind of news framing is being carried out by the COVID-19 Handling Task Force related to news about the COVID-19 case through Murray Edelman's framing analysis. By using Murray Edelman's framing analysis, this study tries to reveal the framing of the press release of the COVID-19 Handling Task Force to form a direct public understanding that the handling of COVID-19 in Indonesia is well. The results of the analysis showed that the positive COVID-19 handling task force used a categorization framing with the titles of press statements, the majority of which only mentioned about the recovery of COVID-19 patients, such as: The Number of COVID-19 Patients Continues to Increase to 429,807 People; COVID-19 Testing Results Show 86% Confirmed Negative; Number of Testing Week Third of November Approaches WHO Standards.

This study explores the Indonesian Ulema Council’s polemic coverage about the concept of Islam Nusantara through online media framing analysis. To look at online media framing, I use qualitative methods with Robert N. Etnman’s framing study that examines two things: selecting issues and the emphasis or promotion of certain aspects. The analysis contained four concepts: defining problems, diagnosing causes, making a moral judgment, and treatment recommendations. The results showed that three online media gave rise to a variety of news reports. Detiknews.com brings up news about scholars’ polemic in the Indonesian Ulema Council area behind Islam Nusantara’s concept eight times, CNNIndonesia.com five times, and Kompas.com three times. Interpretations of the three online media have different attitudes. Detiknews.com in framing can not be said to be neutral, but there has been a bit of a splash of neutrality by displaying statements as a bit of a counterparty, although dominated by pre-party views. CNNIndonesia.com is more impressed to provoke the public to respond to the construction of reality in framing because many use the election diction provocative title. Kompas.com is more neutral compared to Detiknews.com and CNNIndonesia.com. Kompas media tends to use the principle of cover both sides, and the news is more in the form of articles or public opinion.
