AbstractAlongside the using of „technical materials’, the direct 3D printed different plastic also speeded up lately. Accordingly to this, it is often designed parts, which have to sustain extreme stress. The proper definition of material qualities is expensive; despite in every phase of designing, we need it to be done perfectly. In every industrial section, it is important to work with exact material characteristics, especially in fields where strict safety rules have to be kept (in connection with the lifespan) the design of fatigue tests of 3D printed polymer specimens. We planned the examinations on the way to avoid the critical temperature range shown by the DMA examinations’ results in the bending point of the inner friction coming up in the local range. This information could be important for the Military to change the busted parts quickly and sound. That is the reason why we designed these examinations in this way, so, it could help for designers in the field of military, in development of security technology and improvement of recovery.

In this work we will introduce how to design suitable fatigue stress for the plastic samples and how to define the fatigue qualities of the various materials of Rapid Prototyping. This information could be important to change damaged equipments and parts in the military. Due to this, we performed the design of fatigue tests to help the designers elaborate military, safety improvements and proper renewing technologies.

As the first chapter on transformational perspectives, this chapter provides you how the DoD and the military are moving toward a target state for the enterprise. The defense information enterprise has a particular set of goals and mission needs that stem from the overall defense transformation. A guest author perspective provides a unique window to the activity. The vision and mission of the business transformation has been stated, along with providing a proper definition of the defense information enterprise. A pictorial depiction of the reference model for the enterprise is then presented, and each element is further described. We provide a transformation perspective on the DoD information enterprise. We then discuss enterprise as it relates to a set of net-centric goals. These net-centric goals branch into a set of priorities that include data and services deployment, secured availability, communications infrastructure readiness, communications readiness and NetOps agility. As we discuss Net Centricity and the ongoing net-centric transformation, we plan to provide perspectives as to how this mindset is affecting our military and civilian enterprise. The first section of this book provided an in-depth understanding of the concept of Net Centricity and defined important concepts such as information interoperability. In this chapter we discuss the Defense Information Enterprise since this provides a tangible product of the DoD transformation activities. The idea is to define the target state of the Defense Enterprise – what are its basic tenets, and how it leads to a greater level of Net Centricity. Based on our earlier discussion on today’s information enterprise and the various information forms and the decision making capabilities, we now branch into how this is configured for our nation’s defense. We also provide a guest author perspective on the transformation and the defense information enterprise.

It performs a theoretical analysis of the definitions of motivation and attempts to give a scientific definition of the phenomenon of motivation for practising the military profession. The results of the analysis will enable commanders to understand more clearly military motivation in order to effectively manage their subordinates.

The paper presents results obtained by processing a series of published experimental data on heat and mass transfer during evaporation of pure liquids from the free board of a liquid film into the turbulent gas phone. The data has been processed on the basis of the earlier theory of mechanism of heat and mass transfer. In spite of the fact that this process exhibits a strong Stefan's flow, the results indicate that with a proper definition of the driving forces the agreement between theory and experiment is very good.

The need for filtering intravenous infusions has long been recognized in the field of venous access, though hard scientific evidence about the actual indications for in-line filters has been scarce. In the last few years, several papers and a few clinical studies have raised again this issue, suggesting that the time has come for a proper definition of the type of filtration, of its potential benefit, and of its proper indications in clinical practice. The WoCoVA Foundation, whose goal is to increase the global awareness on the risk of intravenous access and on patients’ safety, developed the project of a consensus on intravenous filtration. A panel of experts in different aspects of intravenous infusion was chosen to express the current state of knowledge about filtration and to indicate the direction of future research in this field. The present document reports the final conclusions of the panel.

Abstract The bonding state of the asphalt layers in a road pavement structure significantly affects its fatigue life. These bondings, therefore, require detailed tests and optimization. In this paper, the analyses of the correlation between the results of laboratory static tests and the results of fatigue tests of asphalt mixture interlayer bondings were performed. The existence of the relationships between selected parameters was confirmed. In the future, the results of these analyses may allow for assessment of interlayer bondings’ fatigue life based on the results of quick and relatively easy static tests.

Probably the proper definition of life is impossible to identify for humans (the proof for this claim is given later) but the handbook to the secret shall be updated till the end, thanks to the inquisitive attitude of humans. For this piece, we shall adopt the description from the professional medical community of today. Though this topic falls midway between science and philosophy, this project is strictly technical. To quote dictionary.com, Life is the condition that distinguishes organisms from inorganic objects and dead organisms, being manifested by growth through metabolism, reproduction and the power of adaptation to environment- through changes originating internally; cambridge.com teaches Life is the period between birth and death, or the experience or state of being alive; medicaldictionary.thefreedictionary.com states Life is the property or quality that distinguishes living organisms from dead organisms and inanimate matter, manifested in functions such as metabolism, growth, reproduction and response to stimuli or adaptation to the environment originating from within the organisms. There are several other definitions but to summarize, we can safely state that though the concept is somewhat vague, we could indeed point out some common principles. We shall, in this project, try to replicate the characteristics so as to attain life in medical terms. Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. (DSME), StatoilHydro and DNV established a common project to investigate the reason for the difference between calculated fatigue lives and the in-service experience and to assess the fatigue capacity of stiffener web connections subjected mainly to web frame shear stresses. The main objective of the work was to establish fatigue test data and perform numerical analysis of collar plate connections in order to provide improved confidence in analysis methodology for fatigue life assessment. Large scale fatigue tests of different types of connections were carried out to obtain fatigue test data of collar plate connections. Finite element analyses were carried out for comparison with fatigue test data and with measured stresses on the test model. Based on this work recommendations on fatigue design analysis of connections between stiffeners and web frames have been derived. The background for this is presented in this paper.

The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate how the implementation of Lean & Green (L&G) in an Industry 4.0 (I4.0) environment can enhance the potential impact of the L&G approach and help manufacturing companies moving towards higher operational and sustainable performances. The research work developed here shows that although a proper definition of L&G is neither exposed worldwide nor explicitly implemented under that name, the current industrial firms are deeply concerned about the demanding challenge of keeping businesses flexible and agile without forgetting strategies to minimize the acceleration of climate change. So, one contribution of this paper is the identification and characterization of L&G drivers and design principles, supporting a robust and well-informed L&G systems implementation. As inferred from the research work, this challenge demands high quality and updated data together with assertive information. Thus, the implementation of L&G in I4.0 contexts is the answer to overcome the identified barriers. Likewise, an L&G system contributes to overcoming the challenges of I4.0 implementation regarding the triple bottom line sustainability concept. Consequently, another contribution of this paper is to depict why an L&G system performs better in the I4.0 context.

The text cites the results of the study of the role of merarches, which were a part of the military organization of the Empire in the early Byzantine period. Later historical documents do not give any notion of this position for more than two centuries. The merarches became a part of the thematic organization in the middle of 9th century. Our ability to fully understand the nature of their function is limited due to the scarcity of source materials; this, however, may be overcome by taking into account, the general and political situation in the Empire, that is, by considering the military reforms executed in the 9th and 10th century. This paper focuses on the problem of the military-administrative competences of the merarches, which have been the subject of different interpretations in the modern, scholarly literature. One of the aims of this research is the definition of the timeframe within which the reestablishment of this rank in the Byzantine army occured.
