The World Press Photo exhibition brings together, every year during the last eleven, the more representative set of photojournalism of the previous year. The collection of the winners in each edition represents, if one so wishes, an opportunity to reflect on the impact of the images in the public observer, beyond the aesthetic judgment in a particular time and space. This article aims to leave an open window to reflection. An approach on how snapshots shown are supported by three points: the photographer, the spectator and the surrounding social context. A triangle that inevitably possesses a constant ethical conflict: the duty between informing or helping, being anesthetized through the “compassion fatigue” or go beyond the initial discomfort when observing the pain of others and react against it. Human frailty observed as a driver or a deterrent of a broader social action; beyond the photographer, beyond the visit to an exhibition.ext of the abstract.

AbstractScholars engaged in debates about the use of public reason often view religious arguments as being out of bounds. Yet the real-world impact of religious discourse remains under-explored. This study contributes to research in this area with an empirical test looking at the impact of religious arguments on a particular policy debate. A survey experiment explored the effects of religious and secular cues with varied policy directions on the issue of assisted dying. The findings showed that secular arguments were considerably more likely to elicit a positive response, and that, while religious arguments were not a conversation stopper, they produced significant distortions in political perceptions among participants, though not necessarily along the identity lines critical to the public reason debate.

However, the films produced by each country being different, translation is necessary to understand the language used in each country. In the cinema, the translations can be displayed in form of dubbing or subtitling. This article discusses the problem of translation in the subtitle of the French film of Gaumont Ballerina in Indonesian. However, this study is limited to translations of anterior sentences as the significative differences between French and Indonesian. Using qualitative methods and literature study techniques, this study explains how the translation problems can be solved considering the impact on the public. Through the analysis of translation techniques, equivalent and changes in translation, and subtitles rules we state that there is no fixed model in the translation of the past tense in Indonesian.
