Penurunan kualitas selama penyimpanan merupakan permasalahan yang seringkali ditemui pada pascapanen buah jambu kristal. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan penanganan yang tepat. Penanganan pascapanen yang umum digunakan adalah dengan penggunaan kemasan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji hubungan berbagai kemasan dan masa simpan terhadap nilai kekerasan, total padatan terlarut (TPT) dan kadar air buah jambu kristal. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) pola faktorial dengan 4 ulangan. Faktor pertama adalah pengemasan (tanpa kemasan (kontrol), plastik wrapping, koran) dan faktor kedua adalah masa simpan (0, 4 dan 8 hari). Data yang diperoleh kemudian diolah dengan analisis sidik ragam (ANOVA), selanjutnya diuji Duncan dengan taraf 5%. Hasil yang didapatkan menunjukkan tidak terjadi interaksi antara jenis kemasan dan masa simpan terhadap nilai kekerasan, TPT dan kadar air buah jambu kristal. Namun, jenis kemasan koran menampilkan nilai kekerasan buah jambu kristal yang lebih rendah daripada perlakuan tanpa kemasan (kontrol) dan plastik wrapping, sedangkan masa simpan 0 hari memperlihatkan nilai kekerasan buah jambu kristal yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan masa simpan 4 dan 8 hari. Nilai kekerasan buah mengalami penurunan setelah 4 hari penyimpanan. Penggunaan kemasan berupa plastik wrapping dan koran tidak lebih baik dibandingkan dengan tanpa pengemasan (kontrol) terhadap nilai kekerasan pada buah jambu kristal.ABSTRACT Losses during storage is often encountered in postharvest of crystal guava fruit. Therefore, proper handling is needed. Packaging is the most commonly performed postharvest handling. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of various packagings and storage periods to the values of firmness, total soluble solids (TSS) and water content of crystal guava fruit. This study used factorial arrangement of completely randomized design (CRD) with four replications. The first factor was packagings (without packaging (control), wrap plastic and paper) and the second factor was storage periods (0, 4, and 8 days) in room temperature (±250C). The data obtained then processed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), then duncan test was carried out with a level of 5%. The results showed no interaction between the types of packaging and storage periods to the values of firmness, TSS and water content of crystal guava fruit. However, the paper packaging presented the firmness value which was lower than without packaging (control) and wrap plastic, whereas the 0 day storage showed the firmness value fruit which was higher than the 4 and 8 days storage. Value of fruit firmness decreased after 4 days of storage. The use of packaging in the form of wrap plastic and paper were not better than without packaging (control) to the firmness of the crystal guava fruit.

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of broiler quail’s initial body weight which is fastened at post-hatch to growth and attainment the last body weight. One hundred thirty-five quails aged 12 post-hatch had kept in a cage plot which had prepared based on a completely randomized design with 3x3 factorial pattern and three replications which each replication consisted of 5 quails. The first factor is body weight post-hatch (B) consist of B1 = 5.1 – 6.0 g (light), B2 = 6.1 – 7.0 g (medium) and B3 = 7.1 – 8.0 g (heavy), the second factor is the duration of fasting post-hatch (P) consist of P1 = 24 hours, P2 = 36 hours and P3 = 48 hours. The observed parameters to fasting were feed consumption, body weight, and feed conversion. The result of this study is the quail with light early body weight (5.1-6 g) post hatch showed that the lightest last body weight is related to the value of feed conversion. Accession good performance of quail can be reached by access feed approximately 24 hours.

Masalah yang sering muncul  pada buah-buahan adalah adalah cepatnya mengalami kerusakan karena proses respirasi dan transpirasi sehingga akan memperpendek umur simpan. Salah satu upaya memperpanjang kesegaran buah Kelengkeng dengan pemakaian Edible Coating.  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan Edible Coating sebagai pengemas buah Kelengkeng selama penyimpanan. Perlakuan penelitian terdiri atas aplikasi Edible Coating (Kontrol) dan lama penyimpanan (1 hari, 2 hari, 3 hari, 4 hari, 5 hari dan 6 hari). Parameter yang diamati adalah susut berat, kadar air dan warna. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan adalah rancangan acak lengkap pola faktorial dengan dua kali ulangan. Pengaruh perlakuan aplikasi Edible Coating dan lama penyimpanan berpengaruh sangat nyata terhadap susut berat, kadar air dan warna buah Kelengkeng. Penggunaan Edible Coating sebagai pelapis mampu mengurangi susut berat buah Kelengkeng, mempertahankan kadar air dan warna buah Kelengkeng selama penyimpanan. The problem that often arises in fruits is that they are quickly damaged due to the respiration and transpiration processes so that they will shorten their shelf life. One of the efforts to extend the freshness of Longan fruit is by using Edible Coating. This study aims to determine the ability of Edible Coating as a packaging for longan fruit during storage. The research treatment consisted of Edible Coating application (Control) and storage time (1 day, 2 days, 3 days, 4 days, 5 days and 6 days). Parameters observed were weight loss, moisture content and color. The experimental design used was a completely randomized design with a factorial pattern with two replications. The effect of Edible Coating application treatment and storage time had a very significant effect on weight loss, moisture content and color of Longan fruit. The use of Edible Coating as a coating is able to reduce the weight loss of longan fruit, maintain water content and color of longan fruit during storage

Catfish farming is growing rapidly because the cultivation and marketing technology is relatively easy for the community to master, and the required business capital is relatively small. Pond water waste originating from fish metabolism and dissolved food waste is toxic to fish. One of the efforts that can be done is fish farming that is integrated with plants through an aquaponics system. Research to determine the effect of AB Mix addition on the growth of African catfish and lettuce cultivated by the aquaponics system. The research method used was an experimental method with a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of three treatments and three replications. The addition of AB mixed nutrition did not differ in the growing significance of catfish and lettuce. However, the increase in growth occurred with an increasing dosage of AB mix with the best treatment with AB Mix 3 mL L-1. This treatment resulted in absolute growth in fish of 20.52 g and 4.62 g of watercress. The use of a dosage of AB mix higher than 3 mL L-1 may result in better growth.

Organical material such as animal dung, husk ash, bran, and sawdust is often used  in bocation production. In this study, the paper waste of printing company at Syiah Kuala University was enriched in the raw material of bocation production. This study was aimed to determine the proportion of paper waste that can be added and the duration of fermentation process in order to produce a good bocation. The method used was a factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) which consisting of 2 factors. The first factor was the proportion of paper waste (K) with  4 levels: K1 = 15%, K2 = 25%, K3 = 35%, and K4 = 45%. The second factor was the fermentation duration (L) with 3 levels: L1 = 0 day, L2 = 10 days, and L3 = 15 days. Each treatment was repeated twice so that there were 24 experimental units. The analysis included: water content, total microorganisms, temperature, pH, C element, N element, C/N ratio, organoleptic (texture, aroma, color) and plant growth test. The result showed that additional paper waste with a proportion of up to 35% generally has a positive effect on the quality of the location in terms of water content, pH, nitrogen, texture, aroma, color, and plant growth. The longer the fermentation took place (up to 15 days) the better was the quality of the bocation produced, especially regarding C element, N element, C/N ratio, texture, aroma, color and plant growth. There were 3 interactions with the best plant height namely K3L3 (112.5cm), K3L2 (104 cm) and K2L3 (104 cm). The K3L3 bocation (35% paper waste proportion, 15 days fermentation) was better than the other two interactions in term of highest water content, N, and color value, and the lowest C/N ratio.

The effect of different water spraying level and storage period on endurance of pellet broiler finisherABSTRACT. The storage is very important in a farm management, because this activity can take care of feed stability which enough and preferable to be consumed by animal and also strive for animal food availability continuously. The purpose of this research is to know the water spraying level and variation of storage period against the endurance of pellet broiler finisher ration. This research was designed by a Completely Randomized Design Factorial with two factors (water spraying different level and storage period) with four replicates, the significant result were analyzed by orthogonal contras test. On this experiment, the different level of water spraying (0, 3, 6%) were conducted during mixing at conditioning process, and then the ration were stored until four weeks to study the endurance of pellet e.g.: water content (%), water activity, specific gravity (ton/m3), pellet durability index (%), attack of insect. The water content, specific gravity, and pellet durability index was very significantly (P0.01) reduce by water spraying different level, and not significantly on water activity. The storage period showed very significantly (P0.01) increase the specific gravity, pellet durability index, and the insect attacks, and significantly (P0.01) decreased the water activity, but not effect on water content. Interaction among spraying level and storage period is very significantly (P0.01) on the values of water content, water activity, specific gravity and pellet durability.

The aim of this study was to select the best sources of auxin of which it can stimulate the growth of shoots Pineapple plant cuttings. This research is compiled in a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 6 replications. The Data were statistically Analyzed by the DMRT. Level of treatment given proves that no treatment 0%, cow urine concentration of 25%, young coconut water concentration of 25% and Rootone F 100 mg / cuttings. The results showed that cow urine concentrations of 25% and Rootone F 100 mg give the best results in stimulating the growth of shoots pineapple stem cuttings. Experimental results concluded that the effect of this natural hormone were better than the shoots without given hormone.

                                                                                                                                   ABSTRAK Kelapa sawit merupakan tanaman perkebunan yang memegang peranan penting dalam industri pangan. Luas perkebunan kelapa sawit di Indonesia pada tahun 2014 mencapai 10 juta Ha. Pertumbuhan yang pesat diikuti dengan produksi crude palm oil (CPO) dan palm karnel oil (PKO) yang juga meningkat, sekaligus produk sampingan berupa limbah. Salah satu limbah pabrik kelapa sawit yang jumlahnya besar adalah tandan kosong kelapa sawit (TKKS). Tandan kosong kelapa sawit merupakan limbah organik yang berpotensi dimanfaatkan dibidang pertanian. Akan tetapi, TKKS memiliki nilai C/N yang cukup tinggi, akibatnya sukar dan lama untuk terdekomposisi. Salah satu cara pemanfaatan TKKS adalah dengan dilakukan pengomposan dengan pengkayaan urea. Diharapkan dengan perlakuan tersebut TKKS akan cepat terdekomposisi dan dapat segera dimanfaatkan oleh tanaman. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) mengetahui pengaruh pemberian urea terhadap pengomposan TKKS dan (2) mengetahui pengaruh peningkatan dosis urea terhadap kualitas kompos TKKS. Rancangan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) faktor tunggal dengan 5 perlakuan, yaitu U1 (urea 0 g setara dengan nilai C/N=), U2 (urea 30,9 g setara dengan nilai C/N=), U3 (urea 79,3 g setara dengan nilai C/N=), U4 (urea 176,1 g setara dengan nilai C/N=) dan U5 (urea 466,3 g setara dengan C/N = ) dan 9 ulangan, sehingga diperoleh 45 satuan percobaan. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa pemberian urea berpengaruh sangat nyata terhadap susut bobot, kadar air, nilai pH kompos, C-organik, N-total, P-tersedia, dan nilai C/N, selain itu pemberian urea mengakibatkan terjadi perubahan tekstur dan warna pada kompos TKKS. Pemberian dosis urea 466,3 g mampu meningkatkan kandungan N-total, serta menurunkan nilai C/N dan nilai pH kompos. Pemberian dosis urea 79,3 g atau setara dengan C/N = mampu meningkatkan kandungan P-tersedia dan kadar air, menurunkan susut bobot dan kandungan C-organik, serta menunjukan perubahan tekstur dan warna yang lebih baik. Kata kunci: tanda kosongkelapa sawit (TKSS), kompos, urea                                                                                                                                        ABSTRACT Empty fruit bunches (EFB) is a solid wastes produced in large quantity from palm oil industry. Empty fruit bunches can be used as compost material, additionally difficult to decompose because it contain cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, as well as value of ratio C/N is high. Use EFB as compost material through the provision of urea has been done in this research. Urea are expected to reduce the value of ratio C/N and became a starter for microbial decomposers. The purpose of this research were (1) to determine the effect of urea on composting of EFB and (2) to determine the effect of increasing doses of urea to the quality of compost of EFB. This research was used a single factor of Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 5 treatments, namely U1 (urea 0 g), U2 (urea 30,9 g), U3 (urea 79,3 g), U4 (urea 176,1 g), and U5 (urea 466,3 g), and 9 replications, until result 45 experimental units. The result showed that urea significant effect on weight loss, water content, value of pH compost, C-organic, N-total, P-available, and value of ratio C/N, besides urea resulted Widodoe, K. dkk Percepatan Pengomposan Tandan Kosong Kelapa Sawit…..…. 114 in a change in texture and color on the compost EFB. Application of urea 466,3 g was able to increase the content of N-total, reduce the value of ratio C/N and the value of pH compost. Application of urea 79,3 g can improve the content of P-available and water content, reduce the weight loss and the content of C-organic, and showed the changes in texture and color as better. Sugarcane (Saccharum spp. hybrids) is moderately sensitive to salinity and the effects on plant performance vary according to stress level and genotype. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of salt stress induced by application of different NaCl levels in the irrigation solution on plant height, indirect index of chlorophylls (SPAD), and macronutrients concentration (N, P, K, Ca, Mg and S) and Na in leaves of two sugarcane varieties: CP 72-2086 and Mex 69-290. The experiment was set in a completely randomized design with a 2×5 factorial arrangement. The study factors were sugarcane variety (CP 72-2086 and Mex 69-290) and NaCl concentration (0.0, 71.8, 143.6, 215.4 and  282.7 mM NaCl). Salinity as a single factor negatively affected plant height, SPAD units and N and P concentration in leaves; Ca concentrations increased, while K, Mg and S remained unaffected by the tested NaCl levels. Mex 69-290 grew higher and concentrated greater levels of N and K. Interactions of factors showed that salinity reduced growth in both varieties, but this reduction was more pronounced in CP 72-2086. SPAD units were also significantly reduced by salinity in both varieties. Concentrations of N and P in leaves decreased in both varieties in response to NaCl, while those of K and Ca increased in Mex 69-290. Concentration of Na was higher in Mex 69-290 which exhibited better performance than CP 72-2086. Sodium concentrations in leaves increased in direct relation to the tested NaCl concentrations. Mex 69-290 reached higher concentrations of Na in leave tissues but displayed better health than CP 72-2086. Thus, the variety Mex 69-290 showed more efficient Na-tolerance mechanisms related to Ca and K concentrations, and an indirect chlorophyll index better than CP 72-2086.

Calla lily is an appreciated specie used for flower arrangements. In spite of its commercial importance, there is little information on calla lily postharvest conservation. Thus, this study aimed to determine the best sucrose concentration for pulsing and cold storage conditions to extend calla lily postharvest durability. Flower stalks were submitted to a pulsing pre-treatment using 2, 4, 8, 12 and 16% sucrose in the solution, for one hour, plus a treatment with direct storage in cold chamber (4ºC), without a prior-treatment. Dry storage or storage in solution with the commercial product Flower® was also tested. A completely randomized design was used with four replicates and three inflorescences per plot. Spathe length and width were daily measured from which the opening and wilting processes were analyzed. It was observed that pulsing with sucrose was efficient in extending calla lily inflorescences opening process and durability. Dry storage for short periods (less than six days) can also be used, but a prior-treatment with 12% sucrose pulsing for one hour or with a water supply for the same period was required. For storage in solution, a pulsing with 5% or 7.5% sucrose was recommended.

<p>‘Maha Chanok’<strong> </strong>mango is an economic fruit crop widely cultivated commercially throughout Thailand. By nature, mango fruit has a rather limited storage life after harvest. 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) has been accepted as a commercial substance to improve several fruit qualities. The objective of this research was to study the effects of 1-MCP on the external postharvest qualities and storage life on the ‘Maha Chanok’ mango fruit. The experiment was laid out in a Completely Randomized Design with three replicates, ten fruits per replicate. Mango fruit was fumigated with 1-MCP at three concentrations (1000, 1250, or 1500 nl l<sup>-1</sup>) and three fumigation periods (12, 18, or 24 h), compared with the control fruit. After treating, all treatments were stored under ambient temperature (27 °C, 80%R.H.). The following determinations were made every two days for assessment of fruit weight loss, firmness, chlorophyll content, decay incidence, and storage life. The results showed that fruit treated with 1500 nl l<sup>-1</sup><strong> </strong>1-MCP for 24 h had the maximal fruit firmness. For chlorophyll content, the results showed that fruit-treated with 1500 nl l<sup>-1</sup><strong> </strong>1-MCP for 12 h could effectively retain the highest chlorophyll contents. Furthermore, both the lowest fruit decay and the longest storage life of 12 days were achieved from the fruit treated with 1000 nl l<sup>-1</sup><strong> </strong>1-MCP for 12 h.</p>
