Nostalgia and Alienation are defined as the feeling that one has when he finds himself alone without connection with the people around him. He considers himself as a stranger in the society where he lives. This is due to leaving the people and homelands. This is what happened to Arab- American poets, (Emigrant poets) who leave their homelands and people. The current paper presents Arab- American poets’ longing, deep love, nostalgia and feeling of homesickness for their beloved countries in East. It also shows their adherence and alienation to their homelands by remembering the years and times they lived there. It emphasizes literary criticism of describing, analyzing and evaluating some of Arab- American poems.

In the article the author studies the formation process of Russian intelligentsia analyzing its «birth marks», such as nihilism, estrangement from native soil, West orientation, infatuation with radical political ideas, Russophobia. The author examines the causes of political radicalization of Russian intelligentsia that grew swiftly at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries and played an important role in the Russian revolution of 1917.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the experience of Angela Murray, the female mulatto protagonist, when she finally decides to pass as a white person in Plum Bun, a novel written by Jessie Redmon Fauset. Considering that the focus of analysis is a female, the feminist literary criticism is used as the main framework. The contextual method of analysis is supported by some concepts concerning skin color and passing. The result shows that Angela goes through three periods of her existence. At first she plays with her skin color by passing temporarily as white with her mulatto mother. Then she decides to pass permanently as white and moves to a different state in which she is involved in an intimate relationship with a wealthy racist white man and humiliatingly hurts her younger black sister, her black female acquaintance, and the man she actually loves. Mengingat bahwa fokus analisis adalah seorang perempuan, kritik sastra feminis digunakan sebagai kerangka utama. Metode analisis kontekstual didukung dengan konsep tentang warna kulit dan ‘passing’. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa Angela melewati tiga periode keberadaan. Awalnya ia bermain-main dengan warna kulitnya dengan ‘passing’ sementara sebagai orang kulit putih bersama ibunya yang mulato. Kemudian ia memutuskan untuk ‘passing’ sebagai orang kulit putih secara permanen dan pindah ke negara bagian lain di mana ia terlibat dalam hubungan intim dengan laki-laki kulit putih kaya yang rasis dan melukai hati adik perempuannya yang berkulit hitam, kenalan perempuan yang berkulit hitam, dan laki-laki yang sebenarnya dicintainya. Akhirnya ia mengakui warisan rasialnya dan menebus kesalahan pada orang-orang yang telah disakitinya dan menemukan kebahagiaan yang selama ini dicarinya.Kata kunci: warna kulit, ‘passing’ sebagai kulit putih, rasis, warisan rasial

Art has opened the eyes of the world throught literary works that record the history of a writing. Also the subject of women’s affairs is subject to an author’s reference to the problem of a sense of injustice. Such views have been discussed to voice gender equality and to seek efforts to overcome those problems. Nadia’s asthma is one of the authors who attempt to awaken women to the patriarchate system that has been going on. His works consistently incorporate such universal values as equality in various fields, human freedom, and tolerance so that his readers can adopt the value of life. In addition, she was actively involved in social media as a means of channeling her mind. The twitter feed says some of the people were repressed. Seeing the account encourage him to make a book and then be poured into a storybook of several different stories and in which one of the women’s true account t with the tittle of a jealous heart note. The study used qualitative descriptive methods with the theory of feminist literary criticism.

The article deals with the most famous of German-speaking Mazepa-works of the nineteenth century – the historical tragedy of R. Gottschal’s "Mazepa" and its Ukrainian translation by Yu. Fedkovich. An overview of the critical reception of the German-speaking Mazepa-works proves that the work has received the greatest resonance in Ukrainian literary criticism. In addition, the historical tragedy is the only German-language work on Hetman translated into Ukrainian by Yurij Fedkovich. Among the most important factors of Y. Fedkovych's appeal to work on the historical tragedy is the Ukrainian theme from the past of our people. The analysis of the Ukrainian language version is based on the following criteria for the adequacy of the translation: the translation of realities, in particular, military terminology and ranks of the Cossack army; idioms; reproduction of author syntax and style; observance of the equilibrium of the original work. The article is based on the identification of priorities in the use of expressive means. As a result of comparison of realities, it was discovered that most of the time Y. Fedkovych made a contextual translation or found a situational collocation that was understandable to the people. Military ranks and attributes of the Cossack army were translated with the help of hyperonymic renaming, which testifies to the priority of the principle of historical authenticity in Y. Fedkovych's approach as a bearer of language. It was made possible to describe the features of the creative manner and the individual author’s style of Y. Fedkovych’s translation, embodied in his interpretation of German tragedy. The role of the historical tragedy of R. von Gottschal in promoting the German-speaking Mazepa-works is decisive. Y. Fedkovich's translation remains the only Ukrainian-language version among a number of numerous German-language works devoted to Ivan Mazepa.

The characters in the novel are a reflection of the human condition in real life. Understanding the personality of a character in a novel means understanding the personality of people too. This provides an opportunity to understand the attitudes and behavior of the people in real life through the personality of characters in literary works. Therefore, the researcher considers to discuss the process of individuation of the main characters in Okky Madasari’s Bound. The present study is literary criticism. This research aims to describe the individuation process of the main characters, Sasana and Jaka. The main characters, want the freedom to express their true identity. Through this novel, Okky Madasari wants to convey that life is a choice. Humans have the freedom to choose what they want to be without the negative side being dominant in a person. Along these lines, we can utilize Analytical Psychology to break down this novel with the idea of the individuation process. It employs the theory of individuation process proposed by Carl Gustav Jung covering several steps to achieve the process of individuation of the main characters. There are four kinds of archetypes in order to acknowledge the individuation process. They are “persona”, “shadow”, “anima and animus”, and “Self”. The results of this study show that the main characters still cannot reach the individuation process well. Sasana and Jaka have not yet reached middle age, so Sasana and Jaka have not reached self-archetype yet, because to achieve self-archetype, the characters must reach middle age first.

The article analyzes the enlightenment and translation work of the Bashkir poet Safuan Yakshigulov. World perception, political activity, civic position of the poet is revealed through the analysis of works. The scientific text compares the works of Russian poets with the translator's Bashkir fables. Thoughts, open statements of writers have also been translated into Russian by the educator. Examples of new poetic images, with the help of which poets revealed the spirit of the times, and the spiritual world, and the problems of the people, are given. This is the first work in Bashkir literary criticism, where the poet-educator S. Yakshigulov reveals himself as a translator, a carrier of new cultural information for his people. If in his works the author acts as the successor of oriental poetry, then in translations he appears before the reader as the creator of a bridge between cultures. The article also describes the fact that the poet turned to fable creativity.

The current paper specifically deals with toponymy (especially) studying place names in Nusa Penida, Bali. The analysis is based on linguistic landscapes, using applied descriptive qualitative methods. Basically the data of this article was obtained from selected informants based on whether or not they were able to provide the needed information. The purpose of this paper is mainly to present how the place names came into being from their socio-historical background, how the signposts are written in terms of government regulation and a generic-specific way. The findings show that the English signposts are written with two elements, in which the first qualifies the second (Khvesko, 2014) while the signposts written in Indonesian show the structure of the second qualifying the first (due to the nature of those two languages); that there is a clash between state and local regulation leading to the non-uniformity of the signposts presentation; that the renaming of the place names were done for mainly economic reason (serving the needs of tourism as the main income generating), and that the places under discussion were given the names after the legends known by the people.

A commented survey of the history of literary Grundtvig research as a contribution to the understanding of Grundtvig 's character as a poet]By Bent ChristensenIn his Omkring Grundtvigs Vidskab (About Grundtvig’s Vidskab: An Inquiry into N. F. S. Grundtvig’s View of the Knowledge Aspect of the Commitment to Life that Is a Necessary Part of Christianity), the author first and foremost sees Grundtvig as a “kirkelig og folkelig totaldigter” (total poet of the church and the people). The term “total poet” is analogous to “total theatre”, in which the spectator is drawn into the drama and the actors mingle with the audience.An extensive examination of the poetic aspect of the said commitment is desirable but outside the scope of this article. This commented survey of the literary Grundtvig research and criticism therefore presents some key points in the understanding of Grundtvig as a “total poet”.First, following an exchange of views with Poul Borum regarding the various attempts to use Grundtvig for certain purposes, there is an analysis of the extended text of Gustav Albeck’s lecture “Har Grundtvig-Selskabet forsømt Digteren Grundtvig?” (Has the Grundtvig Society Neglected the Poet Grundtvig?). Albeck provides an overview of the Grundtvig literary research and criticism from the nineteenth century till Poul Borum’s book Digteren Grundtvig (Grundtvig the Poet), and he shows that the study of Grundtvig’s poetry requires a different approach than that of usual literary criticism and research.Next, Albeck’s own contribution Omkring Grundtvigs Digtsamlinger (About Grundtvig’s Collections of Poems) is dealt with. Albeck especially calls attention to Grundtvig’s half jocular characterisation of himself as a “deponentisk digter” (deponent poet - the term “deponent” from Latin grammar indicating passive form and active meaning in verbs). It is pointed out that the active side of Grundtvig’s efforts eventually developed into an actual historical and political interactive commitment increasingly centring on the idea of “Folkelighed” (meaning both what comes from and what pertains to “the people”).In Grundtvigs Symbolverden (Grundtvig’s Universe of Poetic Symbols), Helge Toldberg focuses on mapping all main symbols which Grundtvig since 1814/15 constantly draws upon in his poetry. From his chosen perspective of theories on symbolism, Toldberg registers a number of connections and associations which are also being considered in Omkring Grundtvigs Vidskab.Already in Fra drøm til program (From Dream to Programme: The Place and Significance of Human Life and Its World in the Theology of N. F. S. Grundtvig), the author agrees with Flemming Lundgreen-Nielsen’s understanding of the year 1819 as the year when Grundtvig places himself totally outside ordinary poetry. And he also agrees with Lundgreen-Nielsen in so far as his concept “selvsymbolik” (self-symbolism) is concerned. But according to the author, the literary scholar Flemming Lundgreen-Nielsen does not go sufficiently deep into the matter when sticking to the question as to whether Grundtvig, despite his unique character, still has a sense of common literary poetic factors. The contrast between “aesthetics” and “poetry” in Grundtvig’s works is not only a contrast between the “total poet Grundtvig” and “aesthetics” but also a contrast between the merely “aesthetic” and the poetical depth dimension as a whole. But Flemming Lundgreen-Nielsen provides an apt expression of Grundtvig’s unique character as a poet when saying in Det handlende ord (The Operative Word: The Poetry, Literary Criticism and Poetics of N. F. S. Grundtvig 1798-1819) (1980) that Grundtvig’s book is composed as a progression from the 15-year-old schoolboy’s exercise books to “Grundtvig understood by himself as a symbolic character in the history of Denmark”.In Digteren Grundtvig (Grundtvig the Poet), Poul Borum looks upon Grundtvig as a “total poet”, stressing above all his qualities as a “poet” and taking a “total poetic” view of him as the prophet bard (“skjalde-profeten”).Finally, Hans Hauge’s reply to Poul Borum called “Alt-i-alt” (All in all) is considered. Hauge’s conception of Borum’s book as belonging to the aesthetic and literary 1980s, placed between the political 1970s and the universalising 1990s, seems particularly interesting. However, it is hard to tell Hauge’s own notion of Grundtvig as a poet.In conclusion, the author suggests that it is specific to Grundtvig that, for one thing, within a peculiar historical vision or construction and in a peculiar, highly unified, symbolic world, he conducts an extensive and continuous interweaving of the nation and his own fate, and that, for another, Christianity is almost always included in his poetry.

This chapter treats the individual as a conceptual problem, both a modern ideal and a European characteristic. But the authors set out by considering the European traditions that have warned against excessive individualism, from the Church, from Marxists, and even from those who are now seen today as the champions of individual rights (such as John S. Mill). The enlightened individualism of William James and John Dewey, and the celebration of the individual by American poets such as Walt Whitman, is contrasted with Marxist objections to the keyword. Milan Kundera’s story about Ludvík, in The Joke, shows the way Czech communists mistrusted individualists and considered them to be enemies of the people. The Chinese section treats ‘individual’ as a foreign term, like citizen, that is introduced to Chinese after being borrowed from Japanese. The authors argue that the keywords used to denote the individual in Chinese and other languages have never been neutral. Clearly perceived in negative terms for many decades in China, the authors explore the way citizens began to discuss individual rights and individual obligations when the Chinese economy and the society began to open up after 1978.

This chapter advances a new understanding of the historical romance as a medium for constituting the people via the readerly experience of enchantment. The motif of vanishing in the revolutionary romance, a generic subcategory, signals the absent historical present and the related challenge of representing the people in process. Contrary to a long tradition of literary criticism, the chapter argues that the genre of historical romance seeks to trace out the historical present amid lived conditions of uncertainty. In William Austin’s “Peter Rugg, the Missing Man” (1824) and Catharine Sedgwick’s The Linwoods (1835), two different forms of enchantment (supernatural and affective; the latter is The Linwood’s version of eros) serve as diagnostics on the present, as does the genre’s simultaneous prediction of the future and recreation of the past.
