Mahasiswa Indonesia perlu menguasai bahasa Inggris.

This study aims to highlight errors in translating Arabic phrases and expressions into English. It is part of a research that attempts to establish some cultural connections between those translational mistakes and the embedded Arabic and Saudi religious and cultural factors that influence making such errors. To achieve the set goal, the researcher observed many written English signs around the city of Tabuk in a period of two years and then archived and analyzed the various translation mistakes collected from universities’ announcements, religious flyers, hospital signs, bill board signs, shops and malls signs, personal signs...etc. The errors were classified into four categories: Singular/Plural, Sentence Structure and Syntax, Word Choice, and Spelling errors. Then a quiz was given to selected female English major students at the University of Tabuk; the quiz contained the same observed mistakes collected earlier. Therefore, the sample of the study was very diverse in its nature of Saudi Arabs and Arabs from other Arab countries that came to live and work in the city of Tabuk; while the students who took the quiz were all of Saudi nationality. It was concluded that the reasons Arab people who publish English translations fail to transfer the Arabic equivalence of English phrases and expressions are mainly due to literal translation and influencing cultural factors that make those people unfamiliar with the use of the right English words in their proper context.

This research aims to describe and analyze elements of clausal functionsthat undergo elision by using a transformation approach on sentences from communal interactions at Padayungan Market, Tasikmalaya City. This research adopted a descriptive method by way of a tapping record to gather data. Data from communal interactions and conversations at Padayungan Market, Tasikmalaya were analyzed by a textual analysis. The entire sentential transformation and deletion of clausal functions were treated as population or total sampling. Oral language relies on its contexts of use; therefore, ellipsion occurs.Such, however, does not undermine grammaticality. Nevertheless, accuracy in word choice and word form is not characteristic of oral register since the contexts of utterance assist in understanding the meaning. Transformation is a process of constructinglanguage features from underlying structure to derivative structure. In transformation, there is deletion or also known as ellipsis. Elliptical sentencesare incomplete sentences because of elimination of several clausal parts, derived from a single sentence. This research proves that ellipsis occurs in Sundanese oral register at Padayungan Market, Tasikmalaya.

Those are: types of sentence, the presence of Subject and Verb in a sentence and the presence of Object for transitive verb. The finding indicates that the deaf students of Brawijaya University are able to write both simple sentences and compound sentence. They are also capable to write transitive verb which is followed by the object well. Yet, they are less in writing the passive voice form. Moreover, the data shows that different time durations of writing create a different number of words produced by them. Different deaf classification can provide different significance to a number of sentences produced by them.

About 122 first-year English-major undergraduate students (%50.4 female and %49.6 male) from the English Language Departments at all colleges of Al-Baha University were randomly chosen, including 30 lecturers, and were interviewed in the study (15 males and 15 females). The study revealed significant results which have shown difficulties in constructing short sentences, the distinction of active and passive voice, and the use of conjunctions, punctuations, quantifiers, and the correct auxiliary. Also among common issues, students find difficulties in using comparative and superlative degree, subject–verb agreement and the use of articles.
