Study on Nursing Effect of Individualized Health Education Combined with Cognitive Training in Elderly Stroke Patients

Objective To study the nursing effect of individualized health education combined with cognitive training in elderly stroke patients. Methods 112 elderly stroke patients treated in the Department of Neurology of our hospital from January to June 2017 were randomly divided into experimental group and control group. In the control group, routine treatment, nursing and rehabilitation exercises were carried out, and regular health education was carried out. The experimental group, on the basis of routine treatment, nursing and rehabilitation exercise, carried out individualized health education and cognitive training combining the content of individualized health education. The effect of intervention was evaluated by Montreal Cognitive Assessment Scale (MoCA), health education questionnaire, daily life self-care scale (ADL) and nurse job satisfaction questionnaire before intervention, at the end of intervention for 4 weeks and at the end of intervention for 12 weeks. Results At the end of 4th and 12th week after intervention, the scores o MoCA, the awareness rate of health education, ADL and job satisfaction of nurses were higher than those before intervention, and the observation group was higher than that of the control group (P<0.05), with statistical difference (P<0.05). Conclusion Individualized health education combined with cognitive training can effectively improve the patients’ cognitive function, improve the patients’ awareness of stroke disease and the compliance of health education, improve the patients’ self-care ability in daily life and the satisfaction of nursing work, so as to improve the patients’ quality of life and quality of living.

Objective: This study is to assess the application value of information-based health education and continuity of care in patients with PU (peptic ulcer).Methods: Patients (116) with PU who have been treated in the hospital between January 2019 and October 2020 were taken as research objects and equally assigned to a control group and an observation group in a random manner. In contrast to the routine care applied to the control group, the observation group received information-based health education and continuity of care intervention. The clinical efficacy, the mastery of health knowledge, self-care ability, medication compliance, quality of life, mental state, and nursing satisfaction of the two groups were compared.Results: After the intervention, the total effective rate, health knowledge adequate rate, Exercise of Self-Care Agency (ESCA) scores of all dimensions, the MOS 36-item short-form health survey (SF-36) scores of all dimensions, medication compliance rate, and total nursing satisfaction of the observation group all notably exceeded those of the control group, with a p &lt; 0.05. Patients of the group with continuity of care intervention showed lower Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) scores, as compared to the group with conventional care (p &lt; 0.05).Conclusion: Information-based health education and continuity of care elevates the medication adherence and nursing satisfaction of patients with PU, enhances disease-related knowledge of patients and their self-care ability, and eventually ameliorates the quality of life and psychological state. It is worthy of clinical application.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of a professional support (PS) intervention (including individualized health education and supportive phone calls) in reducing the severity of nausea and vomiting (NV) and improving the quality of life (QOL) of women in early pregnancy. An experimental pretest/posttest design with a control group was used. Participants were recruited from a regional teaching hospital in southern Taiwan. The women in the experimental group ( n = 40) received the PS intervention, while those in the control group ( n = 39) only received routine nursing care. Analysis of covariance and mixed models were used to compare the experimental and control groups while adjusting for covariates. The severity of NV and the perceived level of symptom distress were significantly lower in the experimental group than in the control group during weeks 2 and 4, and the women in the experimental group showed a significant improvement in their QOL in week 4 ( p < .05). However, there was no significant difference between the two groups in body weight at week 4 ( p = .501). These findings provide empirical evidence in support of the effectiveness of PS in reducing the severity of NV and improving QOL for women during early pregnancy. This intervention could be routinely applied in prenatal nursing health education. Future studies could apply the concept of PS to different populations and health issues.

Abstract BACKGROUND: Bronchial asthma among children is a common chronic disease which may have impact on quality of life. Health education is one of the strategy to improve knowledge and quality of life.OBJECTIVE: The study aims to assess the effect of health education via mobile application (app) in promoting quality of life among schoolchildren with asthma in urban Malaysia during the COVID-19 era. METHODS: A quasi-experimental, pre- and post-intervention design was used in this study involving a total of 214 students, randomly assigned into two groups (intervention group and control group). The control group received face-to-face health education while the experimental group received health education via a mobile application.RESULTS: The findings showed that the total score of quality of life (QoL) has improved from a mean total score at pre-intervention (5.31±1.27) to post-intervention (5.66±1.28) for the control group, compared with the experimental group with a mean total score of QoL at pre-intervention (5.01±1.36) and post-intervention (5.85±1.29). A comparison between the experimental and control groups using an independent t-test showed statistically significant differences in their mean QoL scores. The effect of health education via mobile application showed a statistically significant improvement in the mean QoL score from pre- to post-intervention [F (1,288) = 57.46, p = <0.01].CONCLUSION: The use of mobile technology in health education improved QoL as compared to the traditional methods of face-to-face lecture and/or handbooks among schoolchildren with asthma. Thus, educational modules using mobile applications do improve QoL.

Background and purpose. This study aims to determine the long-term effects of a new Memory Self-efficacy (MSE) training program for stroke patients on MSE, depression, and quality of life. Methods. In a randomized controlled trial, patients were allocated to a MSE training or a peer support group. Outcome measures were MSE, depression, and quality of life, measured with the Metamemory-In-Adulthood questionnaire, Center for Epidemiological Studies–Depression Scale (CES-D), and the Who-Qol Bref questionnaire, respectively. We used linear mixed models to compare the outcomes of both groups immediately after training, after 6 months, and after 12 months, adjusted for baseline. Results. In total, 153 former inpatients from 2 rehabilitation centers were randomized—77 to the experimental and 76 to the control group. MSE increased significantly more in the experimental group and remained significantly higher than in the control group after 6 and 12 months (B = 0.42; P = .010). Psychological quality of life also increased more in the experimental group but not significantly (B = 0.09; P = .077). However, in the younger subgroup of patients (<65 years old), psychological quality of life significantly improved in the experimental group compared to the control group and remained significantly higher over time (B = 0.14; P = .030). Other outcome measures were not significantly different between both groups. Conclusions. An MSE training program improved MSE and psychological quality of life in stroke patients aged <65 years. These effects persisted during 12 months of follow-up.

Background: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common and chronic functional disorder, yet few studies have demonstrated the effects of IBS health education. Methods: This study was conducted at the gastrointestinal (GI) clinic of a hospital. A parallel-design control trial for IBS women, in which health education was implemented via individual instruction and the Self-Care Manual for IBS Women, was carried out. The questionnaire utilized in this study covered three areas, namely IBS symptom disturbance and frequency, quality of life, and days of drugs use. The intervention effects were assessed four weeks and eight weeks after the intervention and estimated using the GLMM model (generalized linear mixed model). Results: The experimental and control groups consisted of 31 and 30 participants, respectively. The assessment indicated that health education intervention had significantly reduced symptom frequency in the experimental group after four weeks (β = -2.60, P < 0.01) and after eight weeks (β = -3.30, P < 0.01); significantly reduced symptom disturbances after four weeks (β = -5.01, P < 0.01) and after eight weeks (β = -4.79, P < 0.01). Quality of life for both groups increased after eight weeks, with the experimental group experiencing a greater increase than the control group (β = 15.20, P > 0.05). Drug use decreased by an average of 6.23 days (P < 0.01) and 1.3 days (P > 0.05) in the experimental and control groups, respectively. Conclusions: IBS health education had a positive effect on symptom frequency and disturbance, quality of life and days of drug use.

Objective. With the constant development of medical technology, the medical-nursing combination mode targeted at elderly chronic diseases has been proposed, and based on this, the study on the nursing mode of elderly chronic diseases under the background of medical-nursing combination was conducted. Methods. Total of 100 elderly patients with chronic diseases who were admitted to our hospital from April 2019 to April 2020 were selected and divided into a control group and an experimental group by lot drawing, with 50 patients in each group. Continuous nursing was conducted to patients in the control group, and continuous nursing combined with comfort nursing was performed to patients in the experimental group, so as to compare their nursing effective rate, satisfaction with nursing, self-care ability at 6 months after nursing, quality of life (QLI) scores, and blood glucose, pressure, and lipid levels at various periods. Results. Compared with the control group, the experimental group obtained significantly improved nursing effective rate, satisfaction with nursing, Exercise of Self-Care Agency (ESCA) scale scores, QLI scores, and lower blood glucose, pressure, and lipid levels at various periods 6 months after nursing, with statistical significance ( P all < 0.05). Conclusion. Under the context of medical-nursing combination, the continuous nursing intervention combined with comfort nursing intervention is conductive to promote the self-care ability and nursing effect of elderly patients with chronic diseases and obviously improve their quality of life and psychological state.

Abstract Background Cognitive and mood disorders negatively impact daily life in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). Pharmacological treatments did not demonstrate any effect on cognition compared with cognitive rehabilitation (CR). However, if CR programs offer promising results on cognition, they are less consistent concerning mood and quality of life (QoL). In this context, we designed a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy of an innovative computerized CR program, conducted at home, on QoL. Secondary objectives will estimate the improvement, or the stabilization over time, of patients’ cognitive performances and their emotional affects. Methods Forty MS patients (relapsing-remitting or secondary progressive forms) who have cognitive impairment will be recruited for the trial (called SEPIA-NCT03471338) and randomly assigned to either the experimental group or the control group. Patients randomly assigned in the experimental group will perform a home-based CR program with psychological support during eight consecutive weeks. CR will be based on computerized cognitive exercises from the PRESCO® software developed by HAPPYneuron©. Training sessions (three sessions of 45 min per week) will consist of short exercises evaluating a broad range of cognitive domains and will be personalized for each patient (tracking tool and supervised guidance). The control group, designed to control for non-specific elements of the intervention, will receive only psychological support consisting of various issues related to MS, such as everyday cognitive-related difficulties or management of emotions. QoL, assessed by the MUSIQOL (Multiple Sclerosis International Quality Of Life) questionnaire, will be evaluated three times (at baseline and after 1 week and 25 weeks after home-based intervention) as well as secondary outcomes measuring self-esteem, cognition, depression, anxiety, metacognition, fatigue, and sleep quality. Given the expected MUSIQOL variation, the inclusion of 20 patients per group (alpha risk 5% and power 80%) will be required. Discussion Evidence suggests that computerized programs may be a practice option for CR for people with MS, but there is a paucity of studies evaluating QoL. We hope that this innovative program will highlight such benefits over time in patients’ daily life. In the future, such programs will allow a wider range of available therapeutic options for MS patients with cognitive impairment and for practitioners in charge of their care. Purpose: This study was conducted to develop and test effects of flipped learning on a health education program for allergic rhinitis patients. Methods: The study was a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design, with 38 participants (experimental group: 19, control group: 19). The education program for allergic rhinitis patients with flipped learning developed for this study was conducted in pre-class, in-class, and post-class stages for a total of 12 weeks. For the in-class stage, a TREAT model suitable for patient education program was developed. Data were analyzed with an independent t-test and repeated measures ANOVA. Results: The experimental group showed significant improvement in knowledge (F=15.029, p<.001), self-efficacy (F=6.814, p<.001) and self-care behavior (F=41.761, p<.001). In addition, subjective symptoms (F=61.453, p<.001) and quality of life (F=52.413, p<.001) improved. Conclusion: The results of this study show that flipped learning in an education program is an effective method for those in their twenties persistent moderate-severe allergic rhinitis. Therefore, the education program for allergic rhinitis developed by this study is actively recommended for nurses or health managers at universities to educate subjects in their twenties with allergic rhinitis.

Background: Stroke patients with motor, sensory and cognitive diseases can take profits from information and communication technologies—in particular, from the latest commercial video consoles, which are based on motion capture. These technologies are positioning themselves as complementary therapeutic tools for treating gait and balance disorders. In this paper, a systematic review of the effect of video game-based therapy on balance and gait in stroke patients is shown and compared with other types of treatments. Methods: A systematic review of prospective controlled clinical trials published in the main biomedical databases in English and Spanish between 2005 and 2020 was performed. The systematic review presented in this paper has been done following the Cochrane Manual recommendations and the PRISMA Declaration by two independent reviewers. Data about participants, intervention, outcome measurements and outcome measurement results were extracted. The quality of evidence of each study was assessed using Cochrane’s standard quality assessment format, which includes a description of the risk of bias. Additionally, the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) scale was used to assess the methodological quality of each paper. Results: A total of 18 papers, including 479 patients, were included in this systematic review, in which the use of video consoles (in combination with conventional rehabilitation or exclusively) was compared with conventional rehabilitation to treat balance or gait in post-stroke patients. In all studies, a tendency to improve balance was found in both intervention groups, finding, in 10 of 17 studies that analysed it, a better capacity in the experimental group that included video consoles compared to the conventional rehabilitation control group. Regarding gait, in six of seven studies that analysed it, improvements were found in both intervention groups, and these improvements were greater in the experimental group than compared to the control group in three of them. Conclusions: Commercial video game systems, in combination with conventional rehabilitation, have shown positive results on balance and gait in post-stroke patients. There were variations between the trials in terms of the video consoles used and the duration, frequency and number of sessions with commercial video games. Future studies should compare the effects of commercial video game treatments on balance and gait in stroke patients with a nonintervention group to know their real efficacy.
