The pejerrey, is a species introduced to Lake Titicaca from the continental waters of Argentina. The study was carried out at the Titicaca Trout Fishing Company, located in front of the city of Pomata, Puno Region, at an altitude of 3882 msnm. The objective of this study was to evaluate the growth of Odontesthes bonariensis from two batches (A and B) grown in Titicaca, Peru, in floating cages developed in 2018 and 2019. Silverside juveniles of 77.9 mm in length were used. average 120 days old, sowing a total of 8500 individuals (batch A = 5300 and batch B = 3200), from artificial spawning of broodstock confined in floating cages. After 360 days in batch A, a maximum total length of 230.0 ± 2.10 mm was achieved, total weight 80.0 ± 1.73 g, the feed conversion was found at 1.7 ± 1.39. In batch B, a maximum total length of 231.7 mm ± 2.70 was obtained, total weight 83.07 ± 1.67 g and the feed conversion factor was found at 1.3 ± 0.67. The feed used was commercial trout feed. It is concluded that the trials of silverside growth in floating cages in Lake Titicaca (Peru), presented encouraging results, showing that the fish tolerates the type of culture and could become an alternative for the development of aquaculture in the region.

The growth and mortality of the brown meagre, Sciaena umbra from the Gulf of Tunis, were investigated using a sample of 276 specimens, ranging from 15.3 to 49.2 cm total length and from 43 to 1565 g total weight. Specimens were collected from artisanal fisheries between October 2008 and September 2011. Otoliths were extracted, thin cross-sections were realized and radii were measured. The log-linear morphometric relationships between total length-total weight and total length-otolith radius were significant (p < 0.05), showed positive allometry (b=3.15) and isometry (b=0.90), respectively. The marginal analysis suggested that only one growth increment was deposited per year. The maximum age of the brown meagre was 22 years for males and 31 years for females. The fit of the von Bertalanffy growth function was significantly different between sexes (p

Abstract Studies on the Hyphessobrycon callistus and Trichogaster trichopterus (Pisces, Teleostei) gonadal development in regard to nourishment were carried out. The following parameters were studied: the total length, total weight and gonads weight; the gonads indexes; the distribution of the oocytary diameter in oocytes dissociated and the maturity stages of ovaries and testicles. The total length and weight were estimated to be directly proportional to the amount of nourishment offered in both species, as well as the gonads weight of T.trichopterus. In H. callistus the largest oocytary diameter was observed in the treatment of the lowest level of nourishment offered, and the largest oocytary diameter of T. trichopterus was observed in the treatment of the highest level of nourishment offered. In T. trichopterus the development oocytary phases and the scales of ovaries and testicles maturity proposed were similar to the ones observed in the literature for other species of fresh water Teleosts. The existence of multiple spawning in both species was estimated. The gonadal maturation was less intense in the treatment of the lowest level of nourishment offered, in T. trichopterus.

This study involved 334 specimens of mullet, Mugil platanus, captured monthly in the estuarine region of Cananéia, São Paulo State, Brazil, from July 1988 to June 1989, and examined for the presence of gill parasites. Parasitological inspections revealed the occurrence of the following groups: Trichodina sp., Monogenoidea, Copepoda, and Hirudinea. Only four mullets were not parasitized. Total weight and total length of all 334 mullet specimens examined were used for adjusting the weight-length relationship curve and calculating the relative condition factor (Kn). The 118 specimens infested with monogenoideans on average had lower weights than expected (Kn < 1.0), and the 81 fish co-infested with Copepoda, Monogenoidea, and Trichodina sp. showed a Kn < 1.0. The other infested and non-infested mullets had a Kn > 1.0. It was possible to infer that gill infestation with monogenoideans alters mullet weight, especially in the presence of co-infestation with Trichodina sp. and copepods.

Golden perch, Macquaria ambigua, from the Murray-Darling Basin were aged by using transverse thin sections of their sagittal otoliths. Samples from 889 fish were obtained from riverine and lacustrine habitats and from wild and stocked populations. Error in the precision of age estimates (calculated as the mean percentage error of the independent age estimates of four readers) was 5.6% (3.9% after allowing for discrepancies in relation to the annual mark on the edge of the otolith). Validation was accomplished by using a combination of analysis of the progression of modes in length-frequency distributions, qualitative and quantitative marginal-increment analysis, and analysis of age estimates of fish from populations with a known stocking history. The technique was validated for fish up to 8 years of age (455-545 mm total length, 1695-3988 g total weight), and the greatest recorded age was 16 years (530-600 mm total length, 2607-4050 g total weight). Annual marks become visible in otolith sections in most fish of all ages in October, and 1 October was designated as the birth date. A description of our method of reading sections of golden perch otoliths, including recognition of false annual marks, is given. Otolith length, width and thickness increased linearly with fish length and with loglo(fish age), whereas otolith weight increased linearly with fish age and exponentially with fish length. The continuous growth of the otoliths and the consistency in the appearance of annual marks support the accuracy of estimates up to the maximum recorded age. The mean length-at-age and the parameters of the length-weight relationship were estimated. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters were also estimated (L∞ =507 mm, to=0.420 years, K=0.454). No significant differences were found in growth rates or length-weight relationships between males and females. However, growth (particularly in weight) was highly variable among sites and years, and slow-growing 5-year-olds may be shorter than fastgrowing 1-year-olds. Ages were estimated for a sample of 86 golden perch caught between 1949 and 1951 but a comparison of growth rates between these and more recent collections was inconclusive.

Hybridization is a fish breeding technique in order to obtain high yielding varieties as to increase the production value of a farmed fish. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the growth performance, the coefficient of variation and heterosis value of the result of crossing three species of catfish as a parent, which was striped catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus), jambal catfish (Pangasius djambal) and nasutus catfish (Pangasius nasutus). Crosses made were A) f jambal catfish >< m  jambal catfish (JJ); B) f striped catfish >< m  jambal catfish (SJ); C) f striped catfish >< m  striped catfish (SS); D) f striped catfish >< m  nasutus catfish (SN); and E) f nasutus catfish >< m   nasutus catfish (NN). The study was performed at the indoor hatchery for 30 days. Heterosis values were calculated based on the specific growth rate (SGR) final weight, SGR total length, and survival rate. The results showed that growth performance, survival rate, and feed conversion were not significantly different (P>0.05). Catfish SN has a better performance than the parent with the value of heterosis at final weight, SGR weight, total length, SGR total length, and survival rate of 110.87%, 19.78%, 36.14%, 36.09%, and 15.04%, respectively. The coefficient of variation ranged from 0.00 to 11.08. Final weight, total length, and survival of catfish SJ were also better than the parent with the heterosis value of 46.00%, 11.27%, and 2.27% respectively, but for heterosis SGR of the weight and the total length were negative (-6.65% and -1.01%) and the coefficient of variation ranged from 0.00 to 12.75. These results indicated that the hybrid catfish SN has a great potential as fish farming in the hope of increasing the production of white meat catfish hybrid apart from SJ (Pasupati) that have been released to the public.

In year 2009, Institute of Geography of the Pedagogical University of Cracow created a new course of study, i.e. Tourism and Recreation. A record breaking number of 1022 prospective students applied for enrolment for the first year of study. A great majority of candidates came from the Małopolskie voivodship and the city of Cracow (the total of 65.1%). A significant number of applicants came also from the neighbouring provinces, i.e. Podkarpackie (11.4%), Śląskie (10.1%) and Świętokrzyskie (5.0%). Over 35% of candidates came from rural areas, which constitutes a fairly high percentage value on the national scale, due to the fact that the Małopolskie, Podkarpackie, and Świętokrzyskie voivodships constitute territorial units where rural residents are outnumbered by rural population. Admission was based on applicants’ results obtained in the secondary-school-leaving exam. The recruitment committee calculated the average of grades obtained from all exams, applying 1.5 conversion factor to advance level exams, and 1.5 and 2 conversion factor to the basic and advanced level exam in geography, respectively. Consequently, the highest-scoring applicants exceeded the value of 100%. The highest score was achieved by a candidate from Węgierska Górka (143.83%). The applicant with the lowest score came from Cracow (41.33%). The average grade obtained from the secondary-school leaving exam for all applicants equalled 76%. The majority of candidates were women (72.7%), who also “improved” their results and constituted 80% of students admitted to the first year of study.
