Rice yield and proper weed control need to be increased through an environmentally friendly agricultural system approach in rainfed land during the dry season by reducing the dosage of synthetic fertilizers. This study aims to determine the effect of different fertilizer applications on rice yield and weed abundance in rainfed land during the dry season. The study used a split-plot design, with the main plot of rice variety, i.e., Situ Bagendit and IR-64, and subplots of fertilizer, namely synthetic fertilizers (N, P, K), organic fertilizers + P60 + ½ dose of synthetic fertilizers, organic fertilizers + PGPR + ½ dose of synthetic fertilizer and organic fertilizer + P60 + PGPR + ½ dose of synthetic fertilizer with three replications. The variables observed were rice yield components, namely panicle length, total empty grain and content per panicle, grain weights per hill, effective plot and hectare, 1000 grain weight, harvest index, and weeds summed dominance ratio (SDR). The synthetic fertilizers and three various organic fertilizers, biological fertilizers, and synthetic fertilizers gave different results on the SDR of weeds. The weeds of Sphenoclea zeynalica and Cyperus difformis showed consistent dominance with higher SDR than other weeds, i.e.,> 15 and > 10, respectively. The application of organic and biological fertilizers with half the recommended dosage of the synthetic fertilizers is equivalent to applying the recommended dosage of synthetic fertilizers on rice yield during the dry season on the rainfed dryland with low rainfall intensity and a low yield of 1.3–1.7 t/ha. In the development of vegetable farming by the community, there are fundamental problems which are generally carried out conventionally with the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides to determine the success of their farming. With the farming system, the community suffers a lot of losses because the inputs used are relatively expensive and on the other hand the products become cheap because the quality is not guaranteed. The solution to this problem is to develop bio-culture organic fertilizers and bio-urine whose raw materials are available in the region. The partner village development program aims to conduct training on the making and development of liquid organic fertilizer bio-culture and biourine to support the cultivation of organic vegetables. The method of approach applied is technology transfer (TT) and entrepreneurship capacity building (ECB) which is carried out with the Participatory Rural Approach (PRA) approach ) which in its implementation uses the method of lecture/discussion, training, making demo plotting, and assistance. The results achieved in the implementation of this program were that participants were able to make and develop liquid organic bioculture fertilizers and biourin and apply it to their farms as an alternative to chemical fertilizers

Abstract Soybean is the basic material for any kind of industry, such as tofu and tempeh industries. Soybean cultivation will be better if use a sustainable agricultural system, such as using organic fertilizers. This research purpose was to find out the effect of organic fertilizer on the growth and yield of local soybean. The research used a complete randomized design with one factor which was a variety of organic fertilizers with 6 treatments. Various fertilizers used in this research consist of inorganic fertilizer, liquid organic, compost, cow manure, rabbit urine, chicken manure, and goat manure. Each test unit consists of 4 pots (plants) and each was repeated 4 times. The results showed that the provision of compost and goat manure increased the growth of local soybean plants, include plant height and the number of leaves at 42 DAP and leaf area at 28 DAP. The application of various organic fertilizers (liquid fertilizer, compost, cow manure, goat manure, and rabbit urine) is unable to increase the yield and yield components of local soybeans.

The case of waste from durian rind in Ngrogung, Ngebel, Ponorogo, Indonesia increased significantly per year. Agglomerations and decomposition of durian rind surrounding agro park caused air pollution and bad view in park areas. The decomposition of durian rind is very important to reduce those impacts. The micro composter model in Kampung Durian consisted of three main components. The first component was drying area with cemented ground. The drying area was set to accommodate 1 t fresh durian rind per day. The materials come from surrounding areas of agro park. The second was a machine house with one ton material capacity per day. The third was a composter house consisted of composter tube and packing area. The result of the micro composter house showed a cleaning agglomeration of durian rind from Ngebel lake and surrounding areas. In addition, the model produced liquid organic fertilizer and compost. A cycle of composting was 30 d in the dry season. Amount 1 t of durian rind decomposition resulted of 100 L liquid organic fertilizers and 50 kg compost. The result of composter had a direct impact to control waste problems in Ngebel and surrounding areas.

The large number of rice fields in Borikamase Village, resulting in high production of hay, requires an appropriate effort to use straw into organic fertilizer or bokashi which is environmentally friendly as well as safe for plants. The use of straw into bokashi or organic fertilizer needs to be taught to the farming community, so the community service team focuses on providing assistance and training to the community in utilizing straw as a raw material in making bokashi by using microorganisms as the source of fermentation. In addition, the high price of synthetic fertilizers on the market makes farmers in Borikamase Village feel heavy in providing nutritional supplies to their agricultural areas, so that this training is expected to help farmers by obtaining fertilizers that are cheap, safe, and of good quality to fertilize. The existence of biotechnology applications, provides the right solution in overcoming the damage to bald mountains and the scarcity and high price of synthetic fertilizers, namely by processing straw into bokashi or organic fertilizers with high nutrient content and are safe for the environment. In addition, providing knowledge and skills for farming communities as agents of reform in restoring ecosystem balance through the application of bokashi made of straw on rice fields. To increase crop productivity while reducing environmental costs, an integrated soil–crop system management (ISSM) strategy was developed and successfully adopted in China. However, little information is available on the long-term ISSM effects on maize agronomic and environmental performance. Therefore, we evaluated the effects of ISSM with combining inorganic and organic fertilizers on maize productivity, N use efficiency (NUE) and N balance and losses as compared with farmers’ practice (FP) and high-yielding practice (HY), based on an 11-year field experiment in Northeast China. Maize yield in ISSM (11.7–14.3 Mg ha−1) achieved 97.7% of that in HY and was increased by 27% relative to FP. The excellent yield performance in ISSM was mainly attributed to optimum plant population structure and yield components. Annual N surplus in ISSM was only 7 kg ha−1, which was considerably lower than that in FP (52 kg ha−1) and HY (109 kg ha−1). Consequently, ISSM obtained significantly lower N losses and greenhouse gases emissions and higher NUE. In contrast to FP, crop performance in ISSM showing better sustainability and inter-annual stability. In conclusion, ISSM is an effective strategy to achieve long-term sustainable high crop yields and NUE with less environmental costs in the intensive agricultural system.

Consumer demand for cleaned squid generates a substantial amount of waste that must be properly disposed of, creating an economic burden on processors. A potential solution to this problem involves converting squid byproducts into an organic fertilizer, for which there is growing consumer demand. Organic fertilizers are reputed to offer advantages that synthetic fertilizers cannot provide, such as increasing soil water- and nutrient-holding capacity and promoting the growth of beneficial soil organisms. To evaluate the effectiveness of hydrolyzed squid waste as an organic fertilizer, we quantified soil fertility and turfgrass quality on perennial ryegrass turf (Lolium perenne L.) amended with two types of fertilizer: squid-based (SQ) or synthetic (SY). Field plots were established on an Enfield silt loam in Kingston, RI, and liquid (L) or granular (G) fertilizer formulations of squid or synthetic fertilizers were applied at 0, 48, 146, and 292 kg nitrogen/ha/year. Soil physical, chemical, and biological properties were determined monthly and turfgrass quality was determined periodically during the growing season in 2008 and 2009. Squid hydrolysate applied as a liquid (SQL) and granular (SQG) fertilizer consistently provided high-quality, uniform turf when compared with synthetic fertilizer applied at the same rate. Soil concentrations of NO3, NH4, PO4, pH, moisture, soil organic matter, C:N ratio, and levels of trace metals were unaffected by fertilizer type, formulation, or rate throughout the two-year study. Both squid-based organic fertilizer formulations gave significantly higher microbial activity rates than their synthetic counterparts regardless of application rate. Conversion of squid processing byproducts into fertilizer has the potential to improve turfgrass quality while providing a sustainable solution to waste disposal problems in the seafood processing industry.

There is a question whether it is best to use synthetic or organic materials to fertilize horticultural crops. Fertilizer rate can effect nutritional value of banana squash (Curcubita maxima Duch.) which is used in processed food. Seed were planted in 1990, 1991 and 1992 into beds treated with recommended (base) and twice the recommended (2X) rates of synthetic or organic fertilizers. Lime was or was not first applied in spring 1991. Synthetic fertilizer produced better yields than organic fertilizer. In 1990, the base fertilizer rate improved yield. In 1992, the 2X fertilizer rate improved yield. Liming did not affect yield. Beginning soil pH was 5.55. For lime augmented treatments soil pH was increased to, and maintained at, 5.65 through fall 1992. For no-lime treatments soil pH was approximately 5.3 through fall 1992. Organic materials, likely bound to soil under acidic conditions, are less available and could explain lower yields. The data suggests that soil pH will have to be improved before banana squash yields can be increased using organic fertilizers.

This research aimed to find a pattern of agroecosystem management that can increase arthropod diversity, production, and Return Cost Ratio (RCR) values in organic wetlands planted during the dry season.  This research was set in Randomized Block Design (RAK) with seven treatments and five repetitions, namely:  1) Intercropping  between green mustard  and basil, with chicken manure and without<em> </em><em>Bacillus thuringiensis</em>;  2) Intercropping between green mustard and basil with water hyacinth compost, and without <em>B. thuringiensis</em>;  3)  intercropping between green mustard and leek, given water hyacinth compost, and without application <em>B. thuringiensis</em>;  4)Intercropping between green mustard  and leek, given chicken manure, and without application <em>B. thuringiensis</em>;  5) Intercropping between green mustard and leek, given chicken manure, and given <em>B. thuringensis</em> application, doubled of recommended dosage; 6) Intercropping between green mustard and leek with chicken manure, and <em>B. thuringensis</em> application according to recommended dosage; 7) Monoculture of green mustard without organic fertilizer and without the application <em>B. thuringiensis.  </em>From this research, it was concluded that the pattern of agroecosystem management of green mustard that can increase arthropod diversity in organic wetlands planted during dry season was the intercropping treatment between green mustard with basil, together with chicken manure and without <em>B. thuringiensis</em>. Meanwhile, the pattern of agroecosystem management of green mustard that can increase the production of green mustard and RCR value on the organic wetlands planted in the dry season was the intercropping treatment between green mustard with leek, together with chicken manure, and without <em>B. thuringiensis</em>.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pupuk organik hayati, kimia dan metode konservasitanah terhadap hasil kentang di andisol, serta hubungan hasil kentang dan serapan P dengan perlakuan pupukorganik hayati, kimia dan metode konservasi di andisol. Penelitian dilakukan bulan Maret-Desember 2017 di DesaPandansari, Paguyangan, Brebes dan Laboratorium Ilmu Tanah, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas JenderalSoedirman, Purwokerto. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan adalah RAK faktorial dengan tiga faktor. Faktorpertama yaitu pupuk organik (P) dengan 6 taraf terdiri dari P1 (kontrol), P2 (POH 20 ton/ha), P3 (POH 15 ton/ha),P4 (POH 10 ton/ha), P5 (POH 5 ton/ha) dan P6 (POH 2,5 ton/ha). Faktor kedua adalah pupuk kimia (K) dengan 4taraf yaitu K1 (kontrol), K2 (dosis anjuran dan 200 kg kapur), K3 (1/2 dosis anjuran dan 200 kg kapur) dan K4(1/4 dosis anjuran dan 200 kg kapur). Faktor ketiga yaitu lereng dengan 3 taraf, yang terdiri dari L1 (kontrol), L2(bedengan sejajar kontur miring 10%) dan L3 (bedengan sejajar kontur). Variabel yang diamati yaitu tinggitanaman, jumlah daun, hasil kentang, pH H2O, dan serapan P. The first factor is organic fertilizer (P) with 6 levels consisting of P1(control), P2 (POH 20 tons / ha), P3 (POH 15 tons / ha), P4 (POH 10 tons / ha), P5 (POH 5 tons / ha) and P6(POH 2.5 tons / ha). The second factor is chemical fertilizer (K) with 4 levels, namely K1 (control), K2(recommended dosage and 200 kg of lime), K3 (1/2 recommended dose and 200 kg of lime) and K4 (1/4recommended dose and 200 kg chalk). The third factor is the slope with 3 levels, which consists of L1 (control),L2 (10% sloping contour parallel beds) and L3 (contour parallel beds). The variables observed were plant height,leaf number, potato yield, H2O pH, and P. uptake. The results showed that biological and chemical organicfertilizers with soil conservation methods influenced the yield of potatoes in andisol and there was a correlationbetween potato yields and P uptake.Keywords: P uptake, potato yield and andisol

The study aimed to determine the effect of various organic fertilizers on growth and yield of several varieties of upland rice, and the response of upland rice varieties to organic fertilizers under the stands of oil palm trees have not produced (TBM). The researches conducted in March until July 2016. This study was a randomized block design factorial trial with two factors and three replications, the first factor was some upland rice variety consist of ; Inpago 8 (V1), Situ Bagendit (V2), and Inpago 9 (V3) and the second factor was the variety of organic fertilizers such as; without organic fertilizer (BO0), compost of oil palm empty fruit bunches (BO1), chicken manure (BO2), Kirinyuh or green manure (BO3). Data were analyzed by ANOVA and a further test of Duncan’s multiple range test (DNMRT) level of 5%. The results showed that the varieties Situ Bagendit gave the best response to organic fertilizer by weight of dry milled grain at 4.6 tonnes/ha in the giving of chicken manure.
