The article discusses possible forms of educational STEM projects in the field of electronics and device control using Arduino controllers. As you know, the implementation of such STEM projects can be carried out not only using various electronic constructors, but also using virtual modeling environments. The knowledge obtained during modeling in virtual environments makes it possible to increase the efficiency of face-to-face practical training with a real constructor, and to improve the quality of students’ knowledge. The use of virtual modeling environments in combination with the use of real constructors provides links between distance and full-time learning. A real constructors can be used simultaneously by both the teacher and the student, jointly practicing the features of solving practical problems. The article provides examples of using a virtual environment for preliminary prototyping of circuits available in the documentation for electronic constructors, to familiarize students with the basics of designing and assembling electronic circuits using the surface mounting method and on a breadboard, as well as programming controllers on the Arduino platform that control electronic devices. This approach allows students to accelerate the assimilation of various interdisciplinary knowledge in the field of natural sciences using STEM design.

PurposeThe most important problem for higher education in the post-COVID period is the production of highly qualified specialists for the labor market. The purpose of this study is to determine effective criteria for assessing the quality of training of future specialists and the adequacy of their readiness to solve real problems of the future specialty.Design/methodology/approachA study was carried out among students in order to determine some of the most important characteristics of them as future specialists. Based on the survey results, non-academic indicators were identified that participants perceive as significant for a highly professional employee. The empirical study included 300 undergraduate students from four universities (66% women and 34% men aged 20–21). All participants represent full-time training.FindingsThe survey showed that the participants identified the ability to learn and personal development as the most significant personal qualities.Originality/valueMany criteria for assessing the quality of training of specialists in different professional fields have not been precisely defined. Several ways of solving this problem can be proposed: developing criteria for assessing quality in hiring; revising the methods of work of universities; presenting to students the criteria for development in the profession or adopting international criteria for assessing pedagogical quality.

Abstract Introduction. Color of teeth is undoubtedly one of the most important factors considering patients’ satisfaction with the quality of their restoration, especially in the anterior region of the mouth. Therefore, the determination of color is an integral part of esthetic dentistry and therefore it should be given the highest importance in dentistry in order to achieve the esthetic requirements of patients. Aim. The aim of this study was to evaluate tooth color in 3 different ethnic groups and its relationship with gender and type of tooth using a clinical spectrophotometer. Material and methods. A total of 90 dental students of the Medical University of Lublin was divided into three groups of 30 each according to participant’s ethnicity, which was as follows: Polish, Saudi Arabian and Taiwanese. Then, different divisions were made according to gender as well as the type of teeth. The tooth color was identified by spectrophotometer. The data was statistically analyzed. Results. For the Vita Classical shade guide, A3.5 shade was the most frequently chosen in Taiwanese and Saudi students’ teeth. However, the most common shade observed for the anterior teeth of Polish students was A3. The most common shade among males was A3.5 and in females A3 was the most frequent shade. In all 360 central incisors, overall, the most common shades noticed were A2, D3 and C1. In all 360 lateral incisors, D3, A3 and A2 were the most frequent shades for this group of teeth. In all 360 canines, A3.5 and A3 were the most common shade with almost half of the number of canines in this study was measured with A3.5. Conclusions. Based on the performed preliminary research, it was observed that Polish students tend to have brighter teeth than Saudis which in turn have even brighter teeth than Taiwanese students. It was also noted that men are more likely to have darker shade values than women. Central incisors have higher values of tooth color than lateral incisors and canines.

Globalization processes along with a dynamic life inevitably set new challenges for universities. The content of educational programs should be oriented not only to meet the needs of society in the modern world, but also to be predicted for the future. The institution of higher education should be open to the needs of the labour market, innovations and public queries. When preparing a specialist in a particular field of knowledge, the university is supposed to lay the foundations for adoption of innovations, continuous education, etc. One of the means of realizing the set goals is the introduction of the practice-oriented training. The purpose of the research is to analyze the development of the introduction of the literary theater in the educational process of Boris Grinchenko University of Kyiv. For this purpose, the mission of the Center of Competences «Literary Theater», created at the Department of Ukrainian Literature and Comparative Studies of the Institute of Philology, has been presented; students’ expectations for conducting a series of practical classes at the Center have been studied by using the survey method; meaningful achievements of introduction of the elements of theater pedagogy into the educational process of the University College have been conceptualized; the experience of readings in the course «Theory of Mass Communication in Communication» has been presented. For studying practical experience, empirical methods of pedagogical research have been laid as a basis. The results of the questionnaire show that in the first year students prefer personal development rather than professional improvement. Most of the answers have to do with the fears students would like to overcome. That is why the work in the Center is designed in a way to facilitate the formation of not only professional competencies, but also interactive skills: organizational, communicative, perceptual, predictive, etc. As a result, it poses the effective implementation of the practice-oriented educational strategy of the institution. The project work has shown that it is important to take videos of performances and intermediate stages of work with the subsequent obligatory analyses of what has been shot by a camera. Given the experience of the University College in the preparation of theatrical excursions, it is worth considering the possibility of touring and festival performances of students as a source of experience in the formation of a specialist. Scenario reading of an unknown text by students is an optimal form of working with students of non-philological specialties. In most cases, staging is merely an element of a practical training; however, it plays its significant part in the building of professional competencies

Abstract Introduction Objective parameters may help the decision of how to manage existing dental restorations in patients. Objective This study tested the following hypotheses: i) teaching objective criteria to dental students enhances their criticism toward the indication for replacement of dental restorations; and ii) a complementary practical approach enhances the proportion of correctly indicated treatments compared with a strictly theoretical approach. Method This block-randomized controlled trial involved dental students from a Brazilian university who were randomized to either a didactic/theoretical class group (A, control) or a didactic/theoretical class followed by practical training (group B); both conditions were applied in a moodle-based environment. The proportion of correctly indicated interventions before and after teaching the criteria was compared with using Mann–Whitney U-test (p<0.05), and a comparison between the approaches was established with Wilcoxon test (p<0.05). Result The baseline proportion of correct assignments significantly increased after interventions for both groups (p=0.02), with no significant difference between the interventions (p=0.871). Conclusion The proposed online training enhanced the proportion of correct assignments to restorations, confirming the first study hypothesis. The second hypothesis was rejected because differences between the strategies had no effect on the proportion of correct answers. Focusing on teaching objective criteria for assessment of the quality of restorations would enhance students’ ability to correctly treat them.

Simulation training in medicine opens up new horizons for students’ practical training, advanced training of practicing physicians, as well as systems for assessing the formation of competencies. The Dentist Laboratory, in which dental students start learning already in the first year of study, is successfully functioning in the Training Simulation Center (TSC) of Kursk State Medical University (KSMU). To study the satisfaction of students with the effectiveness of using simulation training in the formation of practical skills, after passing the test during on-the-job training, a voluntary anonymous survey of 110 fourth-year students of the Faculty of Dentistry of Kursk State Medical University was conducted. The questionnaire included a question pool for approval of the argument, and the overwhelming majority of the surveyed students recognize the clear advantages of using simulation technologies at all stages of medical education. 84% of the respondents noted that the reality of sensations when modeling clinical situations in the phantom class of KSMU is close to a real hospital environment. The respondents identified the required number of trainings they needed to confidently master the basic practical skills, as well as highlighted the disadvantages of simulation training in comparison with actual clinical practice. Analyzing the data obtained and taking into account the students’ general desire to increase the total number of trainings, the schedule of classes in the simulation class of KSMU was corrected.
