Students’ research competencies are seen today, for any specialist, as necessary, both in terms of their use in academic training but also for the future careers. The analysis of educational practices in various education systems shows that the development of those skills starts sooner or later along the educational paths. We consider that research competencies are necessary in more and more diverse contexts, together with the development of educational practices that should develop the research competences in the initial and continuous training processes. This study aims to capture the correlation between the perceptions of Romanian students concerning the need to develop research competencies, and the extent to which they are effectively formed in actual higher education programs. The steps made for the development of each career, but also the successful completion of the university studies imply the development and practice of research competencies. The research aims to identify how students from several Romanian universities perceive the need to gather research competencies, what is the meaning of those skills, in what situations are used, but also what barriers are encountered in the research activity. Seeking to minimize any negative impact of research on the well-being status, we believe that a key factor in facilitating well-being is related to responsible research and innovation. Another important aspect of this research is offered by the identification of the respondents’ perceptions considering the importance of research in the students’ future professional activity, which could implicitly determine the interest in ensuring the individual and organizational well-being. For the present research, we aim to find a correlation of research competencies with the well-being status, to identify the necessary research competencies among the objectives of training, to determine the structural elements of research competencies, to identify situations / contexts in which such skills may be useful, to identify aspects that alters the well-being status in research activities, as well as solutions for promoting the well-being status in research activities.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES. The changes in society associated with the country's transition to an innovative way of development radically change the nature and goals of labor activity. Profession under such conditions is considered by a person as a source of material well-being and gaining the desired social status. Professional self-determination occurs too late or is realized as forced, so the lack of opportunity to realize one's professional preferences has a negative impact on the individual and on society as a whole. As a result, in recent decades there has been a significant increase in the requirements of modern employers to the professional training of graduates of educational institutions. A young specialist must improve in the profession, be ready to change professional activity, i.e. be socially and professionally mobile, scientifically established, which can be realized with the help of Hackathon-ecosystem.METHODS. Collection of information, survey of students and teachers were carried out using a systematic approach on the basis of the Hackathon ecosystem. Processing of the obtained information, definition of scientific statements, generation of conclusions and practical recommendations were carried out with the help of the software product "Methodology of studying students' adaptation to dual education in higher education".FINDINGS. It is proved that the research activity of students is a necessary condition for their professional self-determination, acts as part of a holistic, long-term, dynamic process of entry into the profession and as a result of the choice and design of their future professional activity. Students' involvement in research activity largely determines the effectiveness of their social and professional development.CONCLUSION. Research activity of university students is an effective means of forming knowledge, abilities and skills necessary for personal and professional self-determination. It not only stimulates and motivates personal and intellectual development, contributes to the continuation of education, proves the degree of its readiness and acts as one of the guarantors of the success of the process of professional self-determination in general.

Introduction. In modern Russian science, there is a contradiction between the need for workforce rejuvenation and the orientation of the existing system on established scientists, whose interest in conducting breakthrough research has been weakened. Most promising young researchers are deprived of the freedom to independently choose the field of application of their abilities; also, scientists do not have access to resources to solve complex innovative problems and cannot directly represent the products of their work to those people, who may need them. As a rule, young scientists’ research interests are usually limited by the agenda dictated by scientific supervisors; the list of grant contests available for participation is extremely small; formalised requirements of postgraduate studies and thesis defence are conservative and full of outdated rules. In particular, all the above-mentioned problems are evident in the regions. The aim of the work is to highlight young scientists’ (e.g. employees of provincial scientific and educational organisations) motivational factors influencing the research on relevant topics and conditions for success in such research activities.Methodology and research methods. The methodological framework is based on the systemic approach, which involves a comparative analysis method and a hypothetical-deductive method. The empirical material was collected through questionnaire and expert surveys. The cluster sampling involved 148 young scientists (Doctors of Sciences under 40 years old, Candidates of Sciences under 35 years old, postgraduate students and researchers without a degree under 30 years old). In-depth interviews were conducted with the most successful respondents (N = 20) to comprehensively assess the factors of their professional activity, since it is the leaders, who primarily determine the effectiveness of functioning system. Results and scientific novelty. The motivation of a young scientist is considered as a key factor in the productivity of his or her research behaviour, which, in turn, depends on the needs of the individual and the degree of his or her satisfaction with self-realisation in the process of targeted scientific search. The authors formulated a number of hypotheses regarding the motivation of young scientists and the reasons for the decreased scientific activity in recent years based on the analysis of statistics on the state and dynamics of research activities in Russia as a whole, in regions and in individual institutions; on the comparative indicators of such activity and the benchmarking of its best practices beforehand, in the course of the pilot study (in February-March 2018). The authors developed and validated survey tools in order to test the assumptions and to check the final list of assumptions, which included a questionnaire and a list of expert assessments. The generalisation of results based on the questionnaire and the interviews of young researchers made it possible to specify their motivational features and to identify the structural core. There is a clear discrepancy between the desire of respondents to engage in research and the opportunities provided at the state and regional levels, and in the scientific and educational organisations. Traditional support mechanisms for young scientists do not allow using their research and personal potential adequately. The lack of due attention to young scientific personnel will have long-term negative consequences not only for the Russian science, but also for the entire production and economic sector of the country.Practical significance. The proposals and recommendations are made to adjust the management of research activities in the regions and to revise the research policy in order to implement the Strategy of Scientific and Technological Development of the Russian Federation.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the debate on the quality and accreditation of management education by examining the fit between the characteristics of current management academics in Portugal and recognised accreditation standards. For purposes of comparison, the authors use both general Portuguese teaching accreditation standards and specific international standards for management education. Design/methodology/approach – The authors analyse indicators of staff career positioning, tenure status, full time vs part-time, age, degree qualifications, field of training, level of academic inbreeding, internationalisation, research activity, professional activity, and the number of hours taught per week. The authors also examine the relationship between them, in light of accreditation standards, for all academic staff teaching in management degrees submitted for compulsory accreditation by the Portuguese accreditation agency. Findings – The reality found in this study shows gaps between the actual attributes of management academics and what can be considered appropriate attributes, according to the general consensus found in the literature and which is duly mirrored in common “qualified faculties” accreditation standards by Portuguese and international standards (AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS). Research limitations/implications – The findings relate to the Portuguese situation and the analysis developed should be extended to other contexts. Also, while the data, which were collected through a census, has a wide national scope, it only covers one academic year. Practical implications – This work has policy setting implications for degree accreditation and for developing capacity during the transitional periods when universities implement the mandatory minimum standards. It can also help universities to benchmark themselves against their peers as a diagnostic tool for elaborating improvement plans. Social implications – The massification of higher education has led to legitimate concerns about the quality of the services provided, and consequently accreditation procedures were devised to restore trust. However, policy makers must be aware of the impacts of their actions, namely the effects of degree accreditation, as their goals need to be achieved with the minimum negative impact on academic work. Originality/value – The authors work sheds light on the characteristics of those who teach management and how they align with the current accreditation policies that affect academia globally and, in the process, presents empirical evidence from Portugal, which is at a relatively early stage in the accreditation process.

The article reveals the problem of organizing research activities of students of musical universities as the main factor influencing the formation of their musical thinking. To achieve this goal, music education is transformed as a holistic process of musical research based on reflexive modeling, and musical research as a musician’s self-critical research activity. It is found that only in a systematic study by future musicians of facts, phenomena, circumstances of the musical process, it is possible to develop generalized skills to determine and achieve the goal of musical research, develop value-methodological strategy and tactics of relations in the process of interaction with the subjects of this research, self-assess the results of their research activities. In addition, development of musical thinking of personality is aimed at achieving its professional reasonableness as a universal quality, providing understanding and comprehension of the holistic process of musical research and determining mastering the value-methodological culture. In the process of the research, the following is undertaken: the methodology of the criterion-value approach is substantiated as the leading strategy of the personality-activity approach to students of music universities in the process of development of their musical thinking; the types of research activities (reasonable, organizational-informational, creatively transformative, evaluating) and their interrelation on the basis of the principles of unity of the universal and particular, simple and complex are revealed; the research self-critical activity of the future musician is revealed as a criterion of the truth of his musical thinking, aimed at mastering the professional reasonableness of the individual; analysed the role of the reflexive control of the formation of musical thinking of the individual and the holistic process of musical research. The involvement of future musicians in research self-critical activity, as well as the implementation of the reflexive control of the process of development of musical thinking, provided significant positive changes in the levels of development of this thinking. If reflexive management of the process of development of musical thinking contributed to the development of rational and creative individuality, then reflexive modeling of the holistic process of musical research made it possible to achieve self-management of the student’s personality, which led to the development of dialogical thinking, actualization of the independence of professional ideas, judgments, inferences, activation of self-criticism, priority to solving complex problems . As a result of the study, the appropriateness of the realization of the personality-activity approach to students of musical universities in the process of development of their musical thinking are derived: the increase in the effectiveness of the implementation of the personal-activity approach to students during the formation of their musical thinking depends on the degree of implementation of the reflexive management of the integral process of musical research; the achievement of the goal and result of the development of musical thinking — mastering professional reasonableness of a musician — is determined by the degree of effectiveness of the implementation of the personality-activity approach in the process of formation of the specified thinking with future musicians.

In the article the author investigates the problem of formation of value orientations of students-vocalists during their studies in a higher educational pedagogical institution. The author believes that the peculiarities of the training of future students-vocalists in the university are the specifics of the age of students associated with early professional orientation and self-determination in the profession; in the organization of the educational process itself, due to the fact that individual classes in music disciplines are held, in the priority development by future music teachers not of fundamental scientific knowledge, but of practically necessary professional skills and abilities. In modern conditions of socio-cultural development, the problem of formation of value orientations of students-musicians becomes especially actual. It is generally accepted that music plays a special role in the life of an individual due to its ability to have a profound impact on the spiritual world of man. This action becomes much greater if the music affects not only externally (passive or active perception), but is also directly reproduced by the performer. In the process of performing, a deeper comprehension of a musical work continues, depending on its cognitive complexity, there is a positive or negative impact on the currently formed hierarchy of personal values. The value orientations of students in the process of musical performance are a prerequisite for the disclosure of aesthetic potentials, adjust not only the musical and aesthetic interests, but also the needs, tastes, ideals, views of young people and more. Acquiring these qualities, the individual joins the accumulated by mankind true values of life, culture and professional activity. The modern stage of music education is the foundation in the spiritual and moral development of the student, when the problem of value orientations of the student is considered as the most important element of the internal structure of personality, which allows to orient in the material and spiritual culture of society.

The workplace is particularly important for promoting well-being at work and general life satisfaction, as performing a professional activity can be perceived as satisfying and motivating. In addition, employment opens up opportunities for individual development that employees may be perceived as fulfilling. By conducting an interview study with IT professionals of a German medium-sized company, we investigate which factors of the individual work environment are perceived as conducive to the performance of everyday job duties and thus increase well-being at work. Furthermore, we analyze the extent to which participants are satisfied with the implementation of the factors that are important to them, whether socio-demographic differences are relevant, and whether the perception of the work environment has an effect on employees' commitment. Results show that interpersonal factors in particular are considered to be important in everyday working life. About individual factors, a mixed picture emerged, whereby sociodemographic differences play only a minor role. Furthermore, there are indications of a positive relationship between the perception of the work environment and the IT professionals' commitment. In-depth analysis of the employee statements helps to determine which aspects of the work environment should be implemented, developed, or promoted. In the long term, this can support individual learning and development paths and generates a work environment that sustainably promotes employees' well-being at work and fosters long-term employment relationships.
