This paper explains the idea of inception space from Inception (2010), a movie directed by Christopher Nolan, to explore the inception space potential in designing architectural space. Inception space is an architectural space design mechanism that translates the essential experience of space users as an effort to implant idea in the form of positive emotions. In other words, the architectural space is a medium of inception to a space user or a target (mark). The main purpose of inception space design is to affect the target (mark) by planting the idea ‘secretly’. The target is unaware of the intervention and considers the idea presented itself. This process becomes the beginning of an idea to grow in one's mind the beginning of mindset and behavior change. In other words, architects or planners can apply this mechanism to design and influence users so that the design success rate can be improved. The main design keywords as part of the inception process are perception, memory, scenario, layer, and labyrinth. The development of design methods of inception space can be explored and applied to different targets and contexts by applying these design keywords. For example, this design mechanism can be applied to people with dementia who experience memory and visuospatial deficit through wayfinding programming.

Architectural acculturation has a significant and uniform impact on modern architecture. However, the misunderstanding of this phenomenon tends to occur due to its inability to match its context's function and meaning. Therefore, this study aims to examine the acculturation of local and non-local architecture in mosque buildings. Previous research only focuses on mosque buildings as a syncretic factor, with none on the attributed topic. The research object is the Merah Panjunan Mosque in Cirebon City. This object was chosen based on the building age, the acculturation phenomenon that occurs, and because it is one of the cultural heritage in Cirebon City. The research method includes redrawing the Merah Panjunan Mosque's entire mass in three and two dimensions, making it easy to parse based on architectural anatomy. The study object's decomposition is intended to facilitate analysis in each unit of architectural elements, which is read based on the elaboration of the balance and orientation principles. The analysis results are interpreted in the conclusion section with the Merah Panjunan Mosque capable of displaying local and non-local architecture characterized by Javanese and Chinese architectures as well as a Hindu temple. The dominant composition of the Merah Panjunan Mosque acculturation is shown in the roof elements. Therefore, this research implies that Merah Panjunan acts as a reference for architectural design with the acculturation concept.

Problems such as poor indoor environment, pollution to the surrounding environment and waste of water and power universally exist in the school’s cafeterias. In view of this, in the design of Hanzhong Longgang High School’s cafeteria, the pre-research was firstly made to discover and analyze the existing environmental problems and their causes; then the design objectives were brought forward to lower environmental pollution, improve indoor environmental quality, and reduce energy consumption. After that, ecological technological measures were selected and optimized to be applied to the architectural space design. Lastly, architectural scheme was created. In the architectural design, the ecological technology has been applied to achieve the proposed goals in order to create a healthy and comfortable dining environment for the students, and, at the same time accumulate experience on optimized design of ecological buildings.

AbstractIn order to fulfil the needs of housing in Indonesia, a construction in the swampy area is a significant challenge due to its wet condition. Housing offered by the developers commonly appears as a permanent construction which closes the waterway and enlarges the risk of flooding. The permanent construction also takes more time to build in comparison with a traditional housing. Meanwhile, people prefer a permanent construction and modern architecture to a traditional style such as Kutai housing style. This research aims to explore the design of Kutai housing style with the knockdown system as an alternative solution to fulfil the needs of housing in the swampy area. By using the five steps architectural design methods, this design is considered to be more effective due to the shorter time used as well as its effectiveness to prevent flooding. Moreover, the simple yet beautiful design of Kutai housing style gives a strong sense of place and can be seen as a way to preserve a traditional architecture that can also be sold outside the island.

Since the development of modern architecture design, the architect has become increasingly mature in space design, and construction materials has been one of the concerned important elements for architectural design, presentation property of construction material attracts more and more attention and shows rich connotation at the experience level. Therefore, refocusing and interpretation of the construction materials are undoubtedly an important idea to explore the study of ¡°spatial experience¡±. This paper through focuses on perceptual experience of the material and people¡¯s perception towards materials as research objects, studies how to better apply materials so as to gain attributed space. Finally, from the point of view of phenomenology of perception, the paper discusses how to use perceptual characteristic of material to shape the sense of the place.

Beyond being a shelter, houses are such structures which obtain meanings shaped by the influence of culture, particularly reflecting the society’s socio-cultural structure. As a time-khronos and space-topos pattern, the houses reflect the characteristics of the culture or ethnic group which they are part of, while on the other hand, they reflect the images of the individual’s essence as a communicative action. The effect of climate and typology, which are physical components of culture, as well as social components of culture, such as value systems, belief, lifestyle and habits, are cardinal factors in the formation of traditional houses. In this respect, traditional structures are visual representation spaces that narrates their own story, like verbal culture, and they convey their unique codes through visuality. This study, which discusses traditional architecture as a cultural text, aims to reveal traditional Urfa houses through analytical readings, within the context of visual semiology.. The samples selected within the scope of the study will be evaluated according to the context of stylistic features they are part of, such as plan and spatial perspective, the location of the houses, and detections regarding the visual culture will be discussed through the cultural and architectural design approach of Umberto Eco.
