One of the indirect causes of maternal death is anemia. Anemia in pregnancy is a woman with a hemoglobin level below 11 g / dl caused by iron deficiency in pregnant women so that the hemoglobin level becomes low and cannot meet the need for oxygen to perfusion to the tissues. This consumes energy in the affected muscles and buildup of lactic acid which causes fatigue and reduced muscle contraction during labor. Inadequate uterine contractions are called uterine inertia and are characterized by a prolonged phase of labor, which is weak, rarely and short duration. The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in the incidence of uterine inertia between labor and anemia released in RSD dr. Soebandi Jember. This study was analytic observational with a cross sectional research design. The study population was all pregnant women who had improved labor and were included in the medical record at RSD Dr. Soebandi Jember period January 1, 2017 - December 31, 2017. Samples from this study were mothers who had approved the delivery and fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria that had been determined until the number of samples could be fulfilled. The number of samples in this study were 76 samples. The type of data used in this study is secondary data obtained by researchers from the medical records of pregnant women who have received labor. The data included in this study contain demographic data consisting of the age of pregnant women and parity, clinical data in the form of uterine inertia and laboratory data consisting of anemia status. In analyzing the data with Chi Square test (X²), a significance value of 0.011 was obtained so that it can be concluded that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted which means that the incidence of uterine inertia between free labor and anemia is not important in RSD Dr. Soebandi Jember. Keywords: anemia, uterine inertia, pregnancy, age, parity.

BACKGROUND: Pre-eclampsia is one of the complications of pregnancy in many communities with low socioeconomic conditions. The lack of intake of quality nutrition can be a precipitating factor in the occurrence of this complication. AIM: This study aims to find out the nutritional adequacy for pregnant women through the transcultural model assessment using correlational design and a cross-sectional approach in pregnant women at the third trimester. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The diagnosis of pre-eclampsia was identified through a blood pressure of 140/90 mmHg and proteinuria. There were 222 samples with purposive sampling. The data were obtained through questionnaires and the interview results were used as secondary data. The data were analyzed using the Chi-square test, odds ratio (OR) with confidence intervals (CI) of 95%, and the alpha value of 0.05. RESULTS: The analysis of the nutritional adequacy with the incidence of pre-eclampsia confirmed that the carbohydrate with OR of 5.250 (OR = 3.545, 95% CI = 2.098, 13.158), folic acid (OR = 16,838, 95% CI = 2.222, 127.64), and vegetable (OR of 4.00, 95% CI = 1.619, 9.885) which are related to the incidence of pre-eclampsia. CONCLUSION: The fulfillment of the daily nutrition of pregnant women is greatly influenced by the culture and myth developed in society. An assessment using the transcultural model approach can give a lot of information about the influence of culture in pregnant women’s daily life.

ABSTRACT Hyperemesis Gravidarum marked excessive nausea and vomiting in pregnant women at a young age. WHO estimates that 536,000 women died from direct complications of pregnancy and childbirth. One complication of pregnancy is Hyperemesis Gravidarum. Hyperemesis Gravidarum in the world has been estimated to occur in 1-2% of pregnant. According to data from the Medical Record of Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang Hospital, the incidence of Hyperemesis Gravidarum in 2011 there were 72 people of 661 pregnant women. The purpose of this reseach was to determine the relationship between maternal age and parity with Hyperemesis Gravidarum in Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang Hospital 2011. The Design of this reseach used Cross Sectional by analytic approach survey. The population of this reseach are all of mother who gestational ≤ 16 weeks (four months) in the Installation of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang Hospital in January to December of 2011 with the sample of 661 people which taken by systematic random sampling and the reseach was conducted from 17 April to 24 April 2012.  Each variable that was observed in tests using Chi-Square test with a (0.05).  The results of this study showed that 5.9% of mothers with hyperemesis gravidarum, 21.8% of mothers with high risk age, and 30.0% primigravida. Chi-Square test showed no significant relationship between age (p value = 0.000) and parity (p value = 0.000) with the incidence of hyperemesis gravidarum. Expected to the Hospital to be implemented properly instructed how to provide counseling to pregnant women about pregnancy and childbirth, as well as provide confidence that the nausea and vomiting is a symptom of physiology in pregnancy.

Background: Karnataka is one of the six high human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) prevalent states in India. We estimated prevalence among primigravida attending antenatal clinics in Karnataka, assuming this as a proxy for HIV incidence level in the general population. Methods: We tried estimating prevalence among primigravida using cross sectional samples. Data was collected in structured data extraction sheet for the month of September 2011, from all Integrated and Counselling tested Centres (ICTCs) of Karnataka. All the pregnant women were tested as per national protocol. We analysed the basic demographic data, geographical distribution including HIV status of spouse of primigravida. Results: In September 2011, 87580, pregnant women were tested and 238 (0.26%) were found HIV positive of which, 95 (40%) were primigravida. Prevalence among primigravida, was 0.3%. The prevalence among primigravida was highest in Bagalkot (1.6%) district. In Yadgir, Kodagu and Udupi the prevalence was zero. The high prevalent blocks were Jamakhandi, Mudhol, Gokak, Hospet and Muddebihal. 73.7% spouse of positive primigravida were tested for HIV and among those tested, 87.1% were found HIV positive. Conclusions: There is striking difference in the prevalence of HIV among primigravida in different districts of Karnataka probably indicates the difference in effectiveness of preventive interventions in these districts and within blocks. The preventive programs should be reached out to the labourer's and farmers in the general population to prevent the new infections in the general population.

Background: The objective was to study the determinants of anemia among pregnant women. There is a negative effect on the health of the mother and as well as that of the child due to anemia in women with pregnancy. Death rate is more in women who are pregnant and having anemia. The objective of this study was to study the determinants of anemia among pregnant women. Methods: A hospital based cross sectional study was carried out among 40 pregnant women over a period of six months. Demographic data like age, residence, occupation etc was recorded. Obstetric data like gravida, parity, previous LSCS was also recorded. The data was presented as means and student’s t test was applied. Results: The mean age was 23.43±3.4 years. Majority were young between the ages of 19-22 years. Majority belonged to urban residents i.e. 57.5%. 20% of the subjects were found to be illiterate. Majority of the mothers were housewives i.e. 82.5%. Majority were multi-gravida i.e. 60%. Majority had no history of abortions in the past i.e. 75%. Out of total 19 repeat pregnancies, majority i.e. 84.2% had lower segment cesarean section. Majority reported that they had normal menstrual history. The mean hemoglobin level was found out to be 7.94 gm/dl. It was found that the mean hemoglobin level did not differ significantly across age, residence, education, occupation, gravidity, history of abortions, type of delivery but differed significantly by abnormal menstrual cycle. Conclusions: Mean hemoglobin level was more in women with normal menstrual history compared to those women with abnormal menstrual history and this difference was found out to be statistically significant. Hence abnormal menses should be promptly treated, hemoglobin assessed.

Background: Entanglement of the umbilical cord around the foetal neck (nuchal cord) is a common finding at delivery, but its clinical relevance is not entirely clear. Nuchal cords have generally been considered to be rather benign. However, the insufficiency in data regarding the role of nuchal cord in foetal morbidity and mortality is a source of anxiety and frustration to both parturient and healthcare professionals. Considering the above facts the present study was taken up to establish the incidence of nuchal cord at delivery in the existing setup. Methods: This was a cross sectional comparative study conducted over a period of one year from May 2013 to April 2014. A total of 362 women were selected for the study. These women were briefed about the nature of the study and a written informed consent was obtained. The demographic data and obstetrical history were documented on predesigned proforma. The data obtained was analysed using percentages and comparison done using chi-square test for discrete variables. Results: Incidence of Nuchal Cord was 17.7% among study cases. Based on this study gestational age may have an effect on the presence of nuchal cord (p<0.05). Out of 64 cases with nuchal cord’, 11.4% of cases had meconium stained liquor present. 9.8% of cases with nuchal cord had FHR irregularity, which was significantly less as compared to 20.0% of cases who did not show FHR irregularity. This was statistically significant. (p=0.032). 18.7% of mother who showed presence of nuchal cord had delivery by caesarean section. 22.7% of cases with nuchal cord had NICU admissions, which was insignificantly more as compared to 17.0% of cases who did not have NICU admissions. Conclusions: Intrapartum events such as meconium staining of liquor and foetal heart rate irregularities were more commonly associated with nuchal cord but it did not affect the perinatal outcome. However, the mode of delivery was independent of the presence of nuchal cord, thereby reducing the morbidity to the mother. Hence nuchal cord is not associated with adverse perinatal outcomes and the presence of a nuchal cord per se is not found to be an indication of operative delivery.
