Nowadays, air transport is treated as a dynamically developing sector of the world economy. The technological solutions used in this kind of transport are highly advanced; thus, generate high costs, ranging from research through production to the implementation phase. Due to its technological advancement, air transport has several significant advantages over other kinds of transport. This paper presents the characteristics of selected airports in Poland together with statistical data characterising the functioning of the airports. In addition, the plans in recent years regarding the development of air transport infrastructure in Poland were summarised.

Thanks to the rare combination of features most demanded by travelers and freight forwarders, such as speed, security and global reach, air transport has become one of the most promising and profitable branches of the world economy in a very short time. Unfortunately, the dynamic development of air transport has also led to the escalation of completely new, previously unknown threats, such as aviation terrorism. The aim of the article is to present the process of formation of the European Union institutional and legal tools which stand for the protection of civil aviation against acts of terrorism.

The article summarises the essence of airport infrastructure and explores the roles of production airport infrastructure in the world air transport system. It is noted that airport infrastructure is a complex dynamic subsystem of global production infrastructure of the world economy and is aimed at providing competitive air transportation services. It is substantiated that the competitive production infrastructure of international airports is a key element of the economic development of countries in the world economy. In particular, reliable airport infrastructure is one of the key factors in increasing the countries capacity for real economic growth, both in the short and long term. Generalised and systematic views of scientists have led to the conclusion that today there is no single universally accepted methodology that would comprehensively explore and evaluate the competitiveness of the airport's infrasystem, and identify its strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, this study aims to develop and substantiate the methodology for assessing the level of competitiveness of the production infrastructure of international airports in the global aviation market. The proposed methodological approach makes it possible to provide a practical assessment of the competitiveness of the airport's infrasystem, taking into account the wide range of indicators, converted through a fuzzy linguistic approach. It should be noted that the main purpose of creating and implementing an evaluation system is to facilitate the successful implementation of the competitiveness management functions of the production infrastructure of international airports in the global aviation market. The developed model may be used by international aviation organisations and governments in the process of strategic planning of the air transport development.

In the article were described the selected elements of tourism development, which are transport and telecommunication infrastructures. The aim of the study was to examine the impact of this infrastructure on the tourism competitiveness of countries in the world. Therefore, the synthetic index of competitiveness was described – The Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI), which is published by the World Economic Forum (WEF). The study included the selected pillars of the TTCI index, containing information about the transport infrastructure and the teleinformatics in years 2007-2015. Furthermore, the competitiveness of the Polish sector of tourism in the international arena on the field of infrastructure was discussed. It turned out, that in the analysis period, Poland took the highest position in the pillar of telecommunication infrastructure. The lowest position, Poland took in the terms of air transport infrastructure, although a significant improvement can be seen in that area in recent years.

The article assesses the impact of modern trends of globalization of the world economy through the introduction of advanced technologies of production and sales. One of the determining factors in the development of the world economy, the onset of a new technological revolution is the use of digital technologies not only in the production of the final product, but also in the daily life of people. The development of the global data transmission infrastructure based on advanced information and communication technologies leads to the blurring of the boundaries of regional markets. National markets are increasingly becoming elements of the global world market, and the volume of export-import operations significantly affects the size of any country’s gross domestic product. The paper shows the tendency of the digital economy influence on the gross domestic product of Russia and the leading economies of the world. One of the determining factors in the development of regional and world markets is the transport infrastructure of the countries participating in international trade. The analysis of trade turnover of Russia in the framework of foreign trade operations with the main economic partner has been conducted. The influence of foreign trade operations on the development of international transport corridors, as well as the main problems of the transport industry of the country has been designated. The characteristic of container transportation volumes as the basis of international intermodal freight transportation has been given. In modern conditions, one of the most important factors determining the efficiency of the transport industry is the rationalization of logistics processes and management systems based on digitalization. The article identifies the main problems of development and possible directions of digitalization of the transport and logistics industry, the rating of the leading information technological companies implementing modern digital technologies in transport has been given, the dynamics of volumes of introduction of information technological solutions in 2016–2017 has been shown.

Transport infrastructure is necessary for the proper functioning of the economy and performs a key role in its development. In this paper particular attention was paid to the development of a linear road transport infrastructure. The research is based on the analysis of statistical data from the databases of the Eurostat and the Polish Central Statistical Office (GUS). The values of road density ratios, which are expressed in kilometers of roads per 100 km2 of the surface area, point to the dominance of Małopolskie Voivodeship over the national average. In respect of annual increases in the length of motorways and expressways, Małopolskie ranks high among western voivodeships, and exceeds the average annual domestic increase by 0.3 km of motorway/expressway section. The density of railroads is high – in this aspect only south-western voivodeships rank higher than Małopolskie Voivodship. Water transport in this region was limited to the operation of one waterway. Air transport in the voivodeship is based on the operation of one regional airport in Kraków-Balice.

The article defines the role of the transport system in formation of the industrial infrastructure of the world economy in order to determine the trends to increase the efficiency of transport infrastructure in the conditions of globalization of the world economy. The authors have considered M&A processes as the most efficient means to improve the efficiency of operation of transport companies. The main reasons have been identified which motivate owners of transport companies to such types of reorganization as mergers or acquisitions. Both external and internal factors influencing the value of transport companies in mergers and acquisitions have been systematized. it was proved that one of the most priority options for the sustainable development of both an individual enterprise and the domestic economy is transnational integration transformation into forms of mergers and acquisitions. According to this scenario, the expected result is not only an increase in the company's value, but also an increase in profits.
