The internationalization of higher education is one of the most current topics related to education today. The number of foreign students in major higher education institutions is increasing, and international collaborations in the field of education and research are becoming more frequent. Even though the topic is so tangible in proximity, still little is known about the process of internationalization of higher education and the factors that support and hinder the phenomenon. The theoretical significance of this study is the regression analysis of the revealed literature and statistical data, while the practical significance is the possible comparative study of the research carried out in the international context depending on the number of FAO scholarship students coming to Hungary from African countries. The study covers 12 years of mobilities from 2008 to 2020. The study presents the distribution of FAO scholarship students arriving in Hungary from African countries and analyses a correlation between macroeconomic indicators, student mobility and the likelihood of international migration regarding sending African countries, using linear regression analysis and SPSS as a statistical method. For this analysis the data from the ILOSTAT Database has been used. The result of the study is that there are correlations between indicators in only a few cases, such as the HDI and MPI index of the African countries and GDP per capita. The GDP per capita has really strong positive correlation with the HDI index. There is a medium correlation between agriculture, forestry, and fishing, value added (% of GDP) and the employment in agriculture in the examined African countries. Also, our results suggest there is a moderately strong negative correlation between MPI index and GDP per capita.

The internationalization and internationalization of higher education is one of the most actual topics related to education today. However, despite the fact that the topic is so tangible in proximity, we still know a small fragment about the process of internationalization of higher education, the factors that support and hinder the phenomenon. The theoretical significance of the present study is the analysis of the revealed literature and statistical data, while the practical significance is the comparative study of the research carried out in the international context depending on the number of FAO scholarship students coming to Hungary from African countries. Examining the territorial location of the sending countries within Africa, the question arises as to why these countries send students to developed countries, in this case Hungary. Is there a correlation between certain macroeconomic indicators and the mobility tendencies or territorial orientation of students who have received an FAO scholarship?

This article highlights the impact of values on the country’s welfare. Values that are quite constant over a long period of time form an institutional framework within the country. They can contribute to economic development or even prevent it. The aim of the article is to explore, what is the influence of social values, democracy and trade on welfare levels in different counties. The hypothesis is that the dominance in society of secular-rational values and the values of self-expression, democracy and trade (openness to the world) have a positive effect on the level of welfare of countries. The empirical part of the paper is based on the comparative analysis of relationship between GDP per capita and four values such as tolerance and respect, obedience, trust and freedom of choice for two waves of WVS – 2005-2009 and 2010-2014. Using correlation and regression analysis, the relationships between these indicators were evaluated. These values have a positive impact on welfare in OECD countries, some countries of Latin America, Asia and Africa with middle income per capita. However, there is a negative relationship between obedience and GDP per capita. This value is more important for some African and Asian countries and India. The relationship between GDP per capita and the aggregate value index showed a strong positive correlation for OECD countries. Then the regression model was estimated to assess the impact of values, trade and level of democracy on welfare growth and development. The results of the regression analysis showed a significant effect of the aggregated value indicator for all six samples, but this effect is weaker for high-income countries. The effect of the level of democracy is significant and positive only for the sub-sample of democratic countries, while it is negative for high-income countries. The effect of the level of trade on GDP per capita is statistically significant for the sample of all countries, the sub-sample of non-democratic countries and the sub-sample of high income and upper-middle income countries. Thus, we conclude that the institutional factors (the values and the level of democracy) are important determinants of GDP per capita for democratic countries while for non-democratic countries trade is more important.

<p>Mass higher education is a huge force to be reckoned with and its existence, already in the expansion of tertiary institutions is undeniable. This study will focus on three countries: Lebanon, Kenya and Oman. The purpose of this study is to evaluate mass tertiary education progress in these countries. It will synthesize data results of gross enrollment ratios, demographics, internationalization and GDP per capita of these countries which we will use as indicators of the progress and direction that mass tertiary education is taking. The principal conclusions of our data will reveal that all 3 countries are experiencing progress only at different rates for varied and different reasons. The findings of this paper are significant as they will aid in informing the governments of the specific countries and other stakeholders who invest in higher education to understand the challenges hindering progress and ensuring that world class academic standards are upheld.</p>

The article aims at investigating the current scenario of internationalization of higher education (IoHE) in Kerala, particularly in the area of inbound student mobility. It analyses the issues of foreign students enrolled in different programmes across the state. The study includes the in-depth analysis of the current challenges faced by Kerala in the era of growing internationalization trends worldwide. Notably, these challenges encapsulate a larger picture of IoHE in India which makes this article relevant in a broader context. The conducted study enables further policy suggestions which may prove to be useful for the state authorities and lawmakers.

The updated econometric estimates of the influence of new technologies and human capital on the contribution of new technological structures to the per capita GDP in the regions of the Central and North-Western federal districts of Russia are obtained. The article estimates coefficients of elasticity of the contribution of new ways to GDP per capita by the use of the new technologies estimated by capital-labor ratio of work by new fixed assets and by the use of the human capital estimated by a share of busy workers with the higher education. In case of big sizes of coefficients of elasticity of the contribution of new ways to GDP per capita on the use of the new technologies estimated by capital-labor ratio of labor by new fixed assets it is reasonable to increase the investments into fixed assets of the region. In case of big sizes of coefficients of elasticity of the contribution of new ways to GDP per capita on the use of the human capital estimated by a share of busy workers with the higher education it is reasonable to increase, first of all, a share of workers with the highest education.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is two folds: first, to analyze the long-run relationship between terrorism and key macroeconomic indicators (GDP growth, GDP per capita, inflation and unemployment) and second, to determine the direction of causality between these variables in Pakistan. Design/methodology/approach – The relationship between terrorism and various macroeconomic indicators is analyzed by applying Johansen cointegration analysis. Furthermore, the causality between terrorism and macroeconomic indicators is tested by applying Toda Yamamoto Granger causality test. Findings – The results show that there exists a long-run relationship between terrorism and key macroeconomic indicators. Furthermore, the results suggest that there exists a bi-directional causality between terrorism and inflation. The causality between GDP per capita, unemployment, GDP growth and terrorism is unidirectional. Originality/value – There is a lack of research work conducted to analyze the long-run relationship and direction of causation between terrorism and various macroeconomic indicators specifically for Pakistan. The current paper fills the gap in the literature by using sophisticated econometric techniques and recent data set to provide the evidence of the relationship between terrorism and various macroeconomic indicators.

Modern higher education takes an important role in facilitating mobility, including youth, innovation, economic growth, capitalization of human potential. Given the instability and severe challenges of today, there is an increasing need to strengthen partnerships between higher education institutions at both the national and international levels, conducting a common educational policy, forecasting and planning activities for sustainable development and strengthening competitive positions in the market of educational services. This highlights show the need for theoretical and methodological rethinking of the features of new forms and approaches to ensure the effectiveness of internationalization of higher education in Ukraine and cooperation of partner institutions, which should become effective mechanisms for achieving goals and solving complex problems, including access to education, quality and efficiency, capitalization of human potential. In addition, with the beginning of quarantine measures, significant changes are taking place in the direction of internationalization of higher education. It has been proven that internationalization and cooperation in higher education, international learning, including joint online learning, internships, student mobility as tools of interaction has significant potential for involving a significant number of people in intercultural learning on a global scale. The need for effective internationalization is associated with significant opportunities for universities with limited resources to implement their intentions. Finding a compromise will promote transnational cooperation partnerships both inside the country and internationally, and the main features of internationalization should be sustainability, interdisciplinarity, creativity, openness. Achieving these components will have a positive effect not only for the higher education sector, but also for society as a whole.
