Kata kunci : Cuci tangan, kecacingan, kebersihan diri, sanitasi lingkunganAbstractIn Indonesia, helminth infection spread out at rural and urban community with prevalence at elementary school of 60% - 80% and for all age of 40%-60%. Helminths prevalence in Pesisir Selatan district is higher than that of other districts which was 85, 8 % on 2003 and 51,4 on 2005. Helmints infection depends on personal hygiene, environmental sanitation and residential habit. The objective of the this study is to know relationship between hand washing behaviour before eating with helminths occurrence among elementary school students in Pesisir Selatan. This research uses cross sectional design, using secondary data of helminths survey of Ministry of Health RI on 2005, with total sample of 257 students. Helminths disease diagnosis was based on laboratory examination of helminth eggs in human feces using Katto-Katz methods. Research’s results showing that hand washing behaviour before eating is related to helminths occurrence (OR= 2,35, 95% CI = 1,40-3,94), other variables with statistically significant relationship to helminths occurrence is defecation behavior not at the toilet (OR = 2,64; (95% CI OR =1,46-4,77) and eating snacks in small shop at school (OR= 1,96 ;95% CI=1,06-3,65). It is recommended to elementary school student and society to familiarize to hand washing before eating with water and soap. In order to prevent and eradicate helminths disease, beside curative effort, there is a need to do health counseling about healthy and clean living (PHBS), undertaking periodical evaluation on behaviour and personal hygiene of student at school. Keywords : Hand washing, helminths, personal hygiene, environmental sanitation

The health effects of infectious diseases affecting school-aged children continue to be a source of concern in the majority of low- and middle-income nations, owing to poor personal hygiene habits and insufficient sanitary facilities in public primary schools. Schoolchildren and primary school pupils are at increased risk due to a lack of attention to a fundamental yet crucial aspect of personal hygiene, such as continually washing hands with soap under running water, and even due to a lack of information of correct hand washing with soap practice. In recent years, public health concerns about communicable diseases such as respiratory infection and pneumonia have increased. The majority of school students are more exposed to infectious risk factors as a result of their frequent engagement in unhealthy behaviors. The purpose of this study is to determine the handwashing habits of Saudi Arabian secondary school students. The study employed a cross-sectional design in which an online survey was used to assess handwashing habits. Boys and girls from Saudi Arabia's secondary schools were included in the population. Statistical software was used to synthesize and analyze the data collected. The findings indicate that there was a relatively high level of commitment to hand washing. Additionally, findings indicated that the primary reason for skipping hand washing was a lack of recall. When it comes to handwashing materials in schools, the majority of participants prefer water and soap. The study discovered that the majority of secondary school students are unaware of the dangers associated with improper handwashing. Regression analysis revealed that there are significant predictors of handwashing commitment. Factors influencing secondary school students' handwashing habits include their region, academic year, gender, age, and parent's education. Thus, hygiene education programs in schools and communities should be implemented to raise awareness about the importance of hand hygiene.

Terhadap setiap subjek dilakukan penelitian yaitu pembagian kuisioner ISAAC (international study of asthma and allergies in childhood) untuk orang tua. Kata kunci: faktor risiko, asma, sekolah dasar Abstract Background: Background Asthma is a common chronic disease in children. It had been reported that the prevalence of asthma in children and adults was increasing. The age of 6-7 years is the period where the prevalence and the number of visits to the hospital because of asthma are higher. The occurrence of asthma is considered as a complex interaction between genetic factors and environmental factors. Genetic factors have been proved to be the risk factor for asthma, but not for the characteristic of environmental that factors that were still unclear. If seeing the increased incidence of asthma, genetic factors might not play a role solely, but the environmental factors might play moreObjective The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and the risk factors of asthma in elementary school children aged 6-7 years in Padang. Methods This research is cross sectional study in 20 elementary schools in Padang during June until November 2009, total sample of 879 students. To each respondent the ISAAC (international study of asthma and allergies in childhood) questionnaire was given to be fulfilled. Data were analyzed using computer software. Results The prevalence of asthma in elementary school students aged 6-7 years in Padang based on ISAAC questionnaire was 8%. The most dominant factor influencing the incidence of asthma is atopic in father or mother, followed by factors of birth weight and maternal smoking habits and drug administration of paracetamol, while breastfeeding and poultry contact were protective factors. Keywords:risk factors, asthma, elementary school
