Background As of the present, the twenty-first century is experiencing what may be one of its most devastating events, in respect to infected and dead people by the virus. Now known to the world as COVID-19, the devastating disease of what has become a pandemic started its spread from Wuhan, China and swiftly engulfed the whole world with almost 11 million cases, in a span of around six months. It has not only increased the global burden of disease but has heavily dented many social institutions, including education. Methods This study investigates how the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent measures of lockdown, quarantine, and social distancing have affected students. We look specifically into the effects on individuals’ mental health, that is, the stress and anxiety levels of college and university students using the Zung Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS). Results Among 494 respondents, 61% were females, and the majority (77.3%) of the students were in the age group of 19–25 years. Among the respondents, 125 (25.3%), 45 (9.1%) and 34 (6.9%) experienced minimal to moderate, severe, and most extreme levels of anxiety, respectively. The variables of gender, age and year of study were significant at the 0.25 level by univariate analyses. Nevertheless, the ordinal regression indicates that only gender was significant. The odds of a female student being more anxious are higher compared to a male student (OR = 1.779, 95% CI [1.202–2.634], P = 0.004). The most prominent stressors attained from the qualitative feedback from the Pakistani students are associated with online teaching, concerns about their academic performance and completion of the current semester, uncertainty related to exam dates, and the status of the following semester. Conclusions This study will add to the existing body of literature on the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the social and psychological health of students. The study outcomes will provide basic data for further applied and action research and a framework for universities and policy makers in Pakistan and the neighboring countries in the region with the same cultural contexts. Thus, relevant health interventions can be designed for better mental health and educational attainments of students from higher educational institutions. This pathological pandemic may well lead to another pandemic of mental and behavioral illness. All stakeholders should join force regardless of pre-existing differences and inequalities to ensure the well-being of future generations, specifically students from higher educational institutions. The long-lasting impacts and the aftermath of this pandemic will unquestionably need further and future investigations. Keywords: Anxiety, students, mental health, COVID-19, Pakistan

Abstract Aim: The aim of this study was to describe Child Health Service (CHS) nurses’ experiences with conducting individual parental conversations (IPCs) with non-birthing parents. Background: CHS nurses in Sweden mainly focus on monitoring a child’s physical and mental development and the mothers’ health in order to support their parenthood. The assignment of the CHS includes identifying dysfunctional social relationships in a family and strengthening responsive parenting. An imbalance arises within the family when someone in the family suffers from illness, which could have a negative effect on the whole family’s health and well-being. Methods: An inductive, descriptive qualitative study design was used to describe and to gain an understanding of the CHS nurses’ experiences. Data were collected in 13 interviews, and a qualitative content analysis was performed. Findings: The analysis of interviews with CHS nurses resulted in two main categories, each with three subcategories. The main categories are: working for equality and applying a family focus, and dealing with challenges in the developing assignment. The IPCs stimulate the CHS nurses to work for more equality and to apply a family focus, which can be a way of strengthening the families’ health and the children’s upbringing. Developing the CHS nurses’ assignment can be a challenge that appears to entail positive outcomes for CHS nurses, while also generating the need for CHS nurses to receive supervision to find ways to improve their approach and practice.

Socialization in the family commonly is considered a process by which children acquire self-understanding and learn to successfully interact with others in a specific cultural context. At one time, scholars conceived of socialization as a process limited to early childhood; thus, greater understanding about socialization, including how music is used in processes of socialization, exists for that stage of development. Now scholars view socialization as a process that continues throughout the life span. The emergent research includes studies on cultural variation in socialization processes, as well as on how parents continue as important socializing agents even as children mature and become influenced by schooling and a peer group. Relevant to music education are findings that parents and caregivers select and support older children’s and adolescents’ participation in specific extracurricular activities to help ensure their well-being and develop a desirable peer group.

Abstract Early adversity is associated with compromised health and well-being in later life, but whether social functioning mediate the association is unclear. We examined 2 longitudinal samples of older adults (&gt;= 50 years) whose baseline surveys were between 2006 and 2008 with follow-up until 2016 in the Health and Retirement Study (HRS, n = 15,946) and its sister study in England (ELSA, n = 9,692). Health outcomes included depressive symptoms, chronic health conditions, and subjective memory complaints. Social relationships were measured by contacts, relationship strains, and feelings of loneliness. Early adversity was measured by parental physical abuse and alcohol and drug problems in the family before the age of 16. Patterns of association were similar in these 2 samples, where social contacts decreased over time, while relationship strains and loneliness increased especially for older adults with early trauma, which in turn mediated the associations between early adversity and poorer later health.

The content of the concepts of "interaction", "socialization", "social institutions" is elucidated and on the basis of an overview of literary sources the contemporary problems of contacts and cooperation between the primary factors of socialization of the personality - the educational institutions and the family are analyzed. The main reasons that determine the need for a social-pedagogical partnership between them are stated. The possibilities for success and the effectiveness of the interaction are analyzed. Emphasis is placed on the need to develop the pedagogical culture of the parent community in order to raise the motivation and readiness, its influence and its impact on the individual and personal development and development of adolescents in the contemporary information society. It is argued that the achievement of the expected results of cooperation between pedagogical specialists and parents is determined to a great extent by the enhancement of goodwill, bilateral readiness, trust and consensus, the preference for contacts and communication in solving the current socio-pedagogical and educational problems of children and adolescents. The conditions and factors for effective organization and realization of the interaction between educators and parents are presented with the application of traditional and innovative forms and methods. It is emphasized that socialization is a process that undoubtedly requires the combined efforts of all pedagogical subjects, and its the successful outcome depends on the degree of cooperation between them. It is increasingly necessary an еxternal partner support and help, because modern living conditions test the pedagogical skills of parents and teachers. Responsibility for the adolescents is also increased due to the fact that negative environmental impacts are increasing, which requires parents and pedagogical specialists to have a common goal and to combine their efforts to overcome them in achieving favorable conditions for their individual and personal development.

The aim of the study is to determine to examine the current literature concerning the dynamics that encourage participation in sportive/physical activity in visually impaired individuals about the social ecological theory offered by developmental psychologist Uri Bronfenbrenner. This theory argues that the environmental layers have an effect on the development processes of individuals. Three separate systems constitute Bronfenbrenner’s model. These are the microsystem, mesosystem and exo-system, while all of these systems can operate individually on the individual, they are also systems that can work together on the individual. The microsystem constitutes the smallest and closest environment the individual lives. In the microsystem, such as parents, friends, staff (coach, teacher, club president), school, form the micro-system layer. On the other hand, the mesosystem consists of the interactions of different microsystems of which the individual is a part. In other words, it is basically a whole consisting of different microsystems. For example, it includes the relations between an individual's home and school, peer group and family and other social institutions. The exo -system layer covers the social structures that make up the institutional impact and the variables that show the interaction with these structures, such as institutional support, legal regulations, financial support, guidance service, management and auditing. In the study, we used qualitative analysis methods and techniques. We preferred the “purposive sampling” in determining the sample group in the study. We collected data from 13 male and 1 female impaired active athletes participated in the research and the ages of these participants were in the range of 17-47 years, living in Istanbul, Turkey. We used semi-structured, open-ended questions with the thematic analysis method of data. We took notes, kept diaries and recorded all impressions with dates and times. The results of the research evidently layout that all the variables that visually impaired individuals interact throughout their lives have an impact on their participation in sports. In this context, individual well-being, family characteristics, the nature of the relationship with the geographical features of the region and adaptation to the age individuals lived showed that all the variables were in a relationship with each other like the links of the chain. <p> </p><p><strong> Article visualizations:</strong></p><p><img src="/-counters-/edu_01/0853/a.php" alt="Hit counter" /></p>
