Abstract: Background: Globally, local entrepreneurs have experienced an economic downturn brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. Local businessmen in Qatar are not an exception. Method: This qualitative research paper utilized the phenomenological approach as it sought to understand the lived experiences of business owners in Qatar who are experiencing financial decline relative to the central question: “How do local business owners deal with financial decline brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic?”. Findings: The verbal ponderings and statements of the respondents revealed three major themes that local business partners had experienced before their businesses finally reached an upswing. These are (1) CUSTOMER RELATIONS, dealing with Acknowledging Achievements, Attaining Customer Values, and Operating Responses, (2) ADJUSTMENT REMODELING, focusing on Building Foundations, Adapting to Changes, and Coping with Mishaps, and (3) BEHAVIORAL DEVELOPMENT which is about Dealing Impacts, Relieving Stress, and Addressing Liabilities of the businesses impacted by the pandemic. Conclusion: Local Business Partners had a continuous downturn to a series of events revolving around its business, however, most of the respondents are satiated with operating the facility under circumstances. Recommendations: This study recommends that business owners here in Qatar enable themselves to be knowledgeable of the phases behind the strategies of managing a business. These can aid the entrepreneurs in their decision-making skills for the business to prosper. The upcoming related studies should further enlarge the concept of businesses as it will help begin a broader perception of the local businesses. Background: Newly qualified doctors educated in their home country usually go on to work in their first hospital job in same country. These graduates are familiar with the socio-cultural context of clinical setting they work in. But, with many Western universities providing cross-border education to host countries in the Middle East and South East Asia in subjects such as medicine. The experiences of those graduating from transnational medical education and working in local hospitals are absent. The aim of the study was to explore the early transitional experiences of newly qualified doctors moving from a European branch campus to practice at hospitals affiliated to the medical school situated in a Middle-Eastern country. Methods: A qualitative study using an interpretive phenomenological approach through interviews to explore experiences of graduates of transnational medical education working in Middle Eastern hospitals. Results: The main findings can be summarised under the three themes generated: the essentials of practice, routine of practice and realities of practice. The results evidenced the transition as a challenging period for new doctors finding dissonance between the skills taught while in transnational education and the workplace. There were three particular areas of discord for the graduates in clinical practice: working in medical teams with a different arrangement to the one prepared for; adapting to a more patient-centred language and coping with differences in ethical norms, values and practices in the hospital. Conclusions: The graduates found transitioning from university to full-time clinical practice difficult and were disappointed by their experience not matching their expectations of work. These findings are valuable for transnational medical educators seeking to improve the experience of graduates who are moving from the clear ideals, norms and values of transnational medical education into the complexity of full-time clinical practice.

Abstract This article is about language and lived experiences and analysis of movement of dance within Physical Education studies in Denmark with a special focus on how the language of movement and dance can be related to lived body and movement experience. The issue of the challenges and possibilities of expressing movement experience and analysis in words is discussed at the general level and exemplified in the context of a dance educational event where the movement theory of Rudolf Laban is applied. A central question arising out of this example of working with language and lived experience of movement is: What influence does language have on our way of understanding and communicating a dance experience? The article proposes that a bodily anchored lived language – through an ethic-aesthetic phenomenological approach – may supplement, expand and broaden a given professional terminology in order to articulate, communicate and unfold the experiential dimensions of dance.

In this chapter, results from the qualitative longitudinal Selbstbestimmung und Intervention (SEIN) study conducted at the DZNE site in Witten are presented and discussed against the background of a previously conducted systematic review of the subjective needs, demands, and coping strategies of community-dwelling people with dementia. The objective of the study was to examine how participants of dementia self-help groups in the early and middle stages of the condition cope with their illness. A phenomenological approach with a life-course perspective served as the framework for the study. The findings suggest that a person's self-concept is not changed by dementia but instead adapts over the trajectory of the illness. Struggling between external control (defence against stigmatization) and external protection (being taken seriously), and aiming for “Inner Security” were central concerns for the participants. Biographical background and social network are determining factors in the development and use of coping strategies.

This study seeks to contribute to our understanding of the lived experiences of family members and friends of individuals with traumatic brain injury (TBI). The study employed an interpretative phenomenological approach, enabling family members and friends to identify and reflect upon the factors they themselves considered most significant about the impact of TBI on someone close to them, and how this experience has affected their own lives and their relationship with the TBI survivor. Eleven participants, two males and nine females aged 22–79, were from the United Kingdom. Several strong and interconnected themes emerged from the interviews, clustering into four superordinate themes: “continuity and discontinuity”; “damage, loss, and grief”; “roles and responsibility”; and “coping and not coping.” The study findings identify the importance of support and information provision for family members and friends of those with TBI to help them manage the long-term impact of TBI.

The economic downturn due to the pandemic requires MSMEs, including natural handicrafts to survive. The purpose of this research is to examine the conditions in the field of adaptive efforts carried out by natural handicraft MSMEs to manage the situation in the midst of a pandemic as a means of surviving in this difficult situation. In-depth interviews with natural handicraft SMEs in Semarang City, conducted on 20 business owners with random sampling method and convenience sample. MSMEs that can adapt to situations by making innovative efforts and keep up with market demands are quite resilient. Adaptability can be made through products that are made and by means of marketing using e-commerce platforms and social media to approach and expand the target market. On the other hand, MSMEs that are not ready and stuttering in the adaptation process experience difficulties in responding to the changes and challenges that exist. The number of respondents and the limited variety of types of natural handicrafts, can still be explored more widely in a larger area. Provides an overview of the existing conditions in the empirical situation, especially natural handicraft MSMEs and provides input for policy makers to hasten to accelerate efforts to keep MSMEs able to exist through the difficult situation of the Covid-19 pandemic Keywords : SMEs, Adaptive, Pandemic

Motherhood represents an integral part of human life. Mothers all over the world are primarily responsible for caring for their families despite little or the absence of help from their husbands. Using qualitative phenomenological approach, this study explored and examined incarcerated mothers’ experiences, struggles and coping mechanism as well as their dreams and aspirations. A validated interview guide questions were used in interviewing the participants. Results have shown that the incarcerated mothers considered their incarceration as a suffering with an accompanying feeling of regret. They are often unnoticed by the public at large, and their dreams seemed to be oblivious to many. Indeed, most of the incarcerated mothers had suffered a lot and shared a common reason of their loneliness which is the distance they have with their family especially with their children. However, like any human beings, they have dreams for a happy and fulfilling life. The implication of this study is for the local jail management to impose regulations and policies as well as programs to address the emotional needs of the incarcerated mothers. In addition, a deeper understanding of their experiences behind bars and respect in spite of their incarceration should be encouraged.

Abstract The research on small business owners’ (SBOs’) retirement process has been very limited in the literature. In this commentary, we first outline SBOs’ 4 specific retirement decision options, including family succession, retire from management while maintaining ownership, independent sale, and liquidation. We then examine their unique multilevel antecedents that may shape SBOs’ retirement decisions at the individual (e.g., psychological ownership), relational (e.g., business-related family conflict and potential successor), and business (e.g., presence of business partners and business financial value) levels. Next, we explain how SBOs’ specific retirement decisions may shape their retirement adjustment in terms of both psychological and financial well-being. The overall purpose of this article is to provide a conceptual model of SBOs’ unique retirement decisions to support the understanding of SBO’s retirement process and help the literature move forward on this topic.

Unique firm-level data from 287 majority-owned foreign affiliates (MOFAs) located in West Sweden are used to analyse the extent in which transnational corporations (TNCs) in a developed host country have established technological linkages, leading to collective technology learning where both TNCs and their local business partners benefit. The findings indicate that local business partners have established substantial levels of organised technological cooperation, not only with manufacturing MOFAs but also with wholesale MOFAs supplying industrial products. This seems to result in collective technology learning where both MOFAs and business partners in Sweden, especially customers, earn advantages. In the case of manufacturing MOFAs, local business partners in West Sweden seem to be important as cooperative partners. By using a multiple logistic regression to analyse key determinants, it was found that the size of MOFAs positively affected the establishment of technological linkages to business partners in Sweden, among both manufacturing MOFAs and sales MOFAs. A positive correlation with linkage formation was also found among manufacturing MOFAs regarding both increasing age and the extent in which they operate within competitive Swedish industry clusters.
