This research paper aims at finding whether the students’ ability in listening can be improved by activating students’ previous knowledge. The research was conducted at English education study program of faculty of IKIP Siliwangi Bandung. The research used random sampling class and test by giving pretest and post test. Two classes are experimental class and control class, when the experimental class  got a better score than control class.The experimental class was increased in listening ability. Most of the student’s of experimental class students’ stay in fair category.

The problem of this study was concerned with British Parliamentary Debate Style Training to improve second semester students’ speaking ability at English Education Study Program at Baturaja University. The objective of this study was to find out whether it was significantly effective or not to implement British Parliamentary Debate Style Training to improve second semester students’ speaking ability at English Education Study Program at Baturaja University. This study used pre experimental design covered pre test before the treatment and post test after the treatment. The second semester students of English Education Study Program at Baturaja University were the population. The number of the population was 18 students. The researcher took class A as a sample by using cluster random sampling. Based on the calculation, the sample of the study was 12 students and the significance level (α = 0.05). The result of paired t test has value of ttest (5.033) was more than the value of ttabel (2.2009) with df = 12-1 = 11. The value of Sig. (2-tailed) was 0.000 lower than the value of significance level (α = 0.05). This result showed that the alternative Hypostudy (Ha) was accepted. It meant that British Parliamentary Debate Style Training could improve second semester students’ speaking ability of English Education Study Program. The aims of the research were to measure a significant effect on students’ average scores of reading comprehension achievement between students:1)who both had high instrumental motivation in experiment class (Onomatopoeia in Comic Strips) and control class;2) who had high instrumental motivation in control class and the ones who had middle instrumental motivation in experiment class;3) who both had middle instrumental motivation in experiment class (Onomatopoeia in Comic Strips) and control class;4) who had high instrumental motivation in experiment class and the ones who had middle instrumental motivation in control class;and 5) to find whether there was an interaction or not on students’ reading comprehension achievement taught using Onomatopoeia in Comic Strips towards instrumental motivation. Experimental with factorial design was used in this research by using 40 samples of the third semester students of English Education Study Program of UNRIKA classified into high and middle instrumental motivation. The validity used content validity while reliability of the data measured by Cronbach Alpha using SPSS 24. The data were collected through Onomatopoeia test and Gardner’s instrumental motivation questionnaire. To write an ‘attention grabbing’ paragraph, the students should do a lot of practices in writing. However, the fact showed that writing skill was frightening and boring skill to learn as lecturers applied boring and monotonous teaching technique. Thus, the present research was mainly intended to answer the following questions: how effective is simultaneous roundtable in improving the students’ genre-based paragraph writing ability? and how do the students respond the application of simultaneous roundtable in teaching genre-based paragraph writing? The subjects of this research were two classes of the second semester students of English Education Study Program Faculty of Teacher Training and Education Mahasaraswati Denpasar University which consisted of 62 students altogether. The design of the present study was classroom action research which were carried out in three cycles. The progressing results of the pre-test, post-test 1, 2 and 3 confirmed that simultaneous roundtable was effective in improving genre-based paragraph writing ability. In addition, the results of the questionnaire showed that most of the subjects agreed on the application of simultaneous roundtable in teaching genre-based paragraph writing.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara penguasaan tata bahasa dan kemampuan menerjemah kanteks Bahasa Indonesia ke Bahasa Inggris mahasiswa semester VII, program studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Universitas Khairun Ternate. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah seluruh mahasiswa semester VII program studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris tahun akademik 2014-2015.Sampel dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 30 responden yang diambil dengan menggunakan teknik stratified random sampling. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kuantitatif deskriptif dengan teknik Pearson’s r correlation coefficients untuk menganalis data. Data dalam penelitian ini diperoleh melalui tes, yaitu 30 soal pilihan ganda dan 1 teksBahasa Indonesia yang harus diterjemahkan ke dalam Bahasa Inggris.Melalui penelitian ini, ditemukan bahwa koefisien korelasi antara penguasaan tata bahasa dan kemampuan menerjemahkan adalah 0.59; sementara dalam tabel Pearson’s Product Moment dengan degree of significance 5% dan sampel 30, koefisien korelasinya adalah 0.374. Hal ini berarti bahwa koefisien korelasi 0.59 signifikan dan dapat digunakan untuk menolak hipotesis nol karena rxy­>rt­= 0.59 > 0.374. Dengan kata lain, hipotesis  alternatif yang menyatakan bahwa terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara penguasaan tata bahasa dan kemampuan menerjemahkan diterima. Saran dari penelitianini adalah dalam mengembangkan kemampuan menerjemahkan, mahasiswa program studi pendidikan Bahasa Inggris harus memberi perhatian lebih terhadap penggunaan tata bahasa. Kemudian, mahasiswa disarankan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan dalam penguasaan tata bahasa untuk mengembangkan kemampuan menerjemahkan mereka.Kata kunci : terjemahan, tata bahasa

Self-Esteem (nilai diri) merupakan salah satu aspek dalam diri siswa yang berada pada ranah afektif (psikologi). Self-esteem merupakan aspek yang penting untuk diukur atau diketahui karena merupakan suatu persepsi tentang bagaimana seseorang memberikan penilaian terhadap dirinya sendiri. Dengan mengetahui bagaimana nilai yang diberikan siswa kepada diri mereka sendiri, guru akan mampu lebih selektif dalam menerapkan strategi pembelajaran agar mampu mencapai hasil yang maksimal dalam proses pembelajaran. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif yang bertujuan mendeskripsikan bagaimana self-esteem (nilai diri) mahasiswa tahun pertama Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris di STKIP Muhamamadiyah Kotabumi terhadap 50 orang mahasiswa sebagai sampel yang diambil secara acak menggunakan teknik simple random sampling. Data dalam penelitian ini dikumpulkan menggunakan angket yang disusun dengan skala Likert untuk selanjutnya dianalisis dan dikategorisasikan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 28% mahasiswa memiliki self-esteem yang tinggi, 66% mahasiswa dengan kategori sedang, dan 6% siswa memiliki self-esteem yang rendah. Oleh karenanya, disarankan agar dosen yang mengajar pada kelas itu membantu agar mahasiswa tersebut tetap dapat mempertahankan self-esteem (nilai diri) yang positif yang sudah dimiliki serta mampu membantu mahasiswa dengan self-esteem (nilai diri) yang rendah untuk membangunnya menjadi positif atau tinggi melalui penerapan strategi yang relevan.

This research aims to find out whether or not the use of POW+TREE technique is enhance the students’ writing argumentative paragraphs. This research apply pre-experimental research. The population of this research is the sixth semesters of English Education Study Program of Universitas Cokroaminoto Palopo in academic year 2016/2017. There are 6 classes in the sixth semester of Universitas Cokroaminoto Palopo and the researcher use simple random sampling to take the sample and the total sample is 20 students. Based on the data that shows as the pretest mean score is 35,90 and  the mean score of posttest is 58.50. So the result of this research shows that the used of  POW+TREE technique in teaching writing argumentative paragraph is able to enhance the students’ ability in writing argumentative paragraphs.

One of the purpose of teaching speaking is the students are able to use English as a means of communication based on the context and situation related to their level of vocabulary mastery. So before we are able to communicate well, we should have a large number of words.The objective of this research is to find out whether vocabulary is influential toward English speaking ability. The populations of this research are 190 students of all the fourth semester in the academic year of 2009-2010. Based on the table of Krecjie, a number of samples are 127 students. The sampling technique used is the simple random sampling technique. To collect the data, the researcher requires two tests, vocabulary and speaking tests.This study yields that there is a positive and significant influence between English vocabulary mastery and the students’ speaking ability, it is proved by the value of correlation coefficient 0.764 which is higher than the value of r table (0.176). It means that the rise of the independent variable (the students’ vocabulary mastery) will be followed by the rise of the dependent variable (English speaking ability). The effective contribution of the students’ vocabulary mastery toward English speaking ability is 58.6%

Lecture courses in the English Language Education Study Program of STKIP Setiabudhi Rangkasbitung are still conducted in face-to-face class, so the students who do not attend lectures cannot know the pronunciation material at that time, because the Pronunciation course is a practical course in the English pronunciation system. The E-Learning Pronunciation is built so that lectures can be carried out anywhere and anytime without reducing the quality of the teaching and learning process. Therefore, the students who are left behind can continue to follow the Pronunciation course material, as well as habituating students in utilizing communication and information technology. E-Learning Pronunciation is important to be built to improve the ability of students’ pronunciation when doing distance learning, so that students are clearer and more firm in understanding Pronunciation so that there are no errors in English pronunciation. Participants in this study were first semester students of English education study programs. This study uses an experimental research design with the Prototype System development method and system of testing uses Black box testing.

This study was conducted with the aim of knowing the significant role of WhatsApp in teaching vocabulary, especially staff learning achievement which was limited to vocabulary achievement as measured by a vocabulary test at Umbul Ponggok Klaten. Participants in this study amounted to 30 people consisting of 15 men and 15 women. All participants will learn English as a foreign language using WhatsApp to learn new vocabulary items via their mobile, tablet or laptop. Participants' English level will be measured. Random sampling procedure was carried out. To carry out the research, a true experimental design was used. The participants were assigned to two experimental and control groups. The assessment instrument in this study used a pre-test and post-test. The results showed that the use of the WhatsApp application in teaching vocabulary to the Umbul Ponggok Klaten staff was able to improve the achievement of new English vocabulary mastery of the Umbul Ponggok Klaten staff which was getting better.

This study was aimed to identify the informality of request as politeness strategies used by the students of English Education study Program (English department) of Unrika Batam.The data was obtained from request spoken by the student of English department students. The data taken based on cluster sampling due the homogeneous data. The data was students of morning class of semester seven. This study concluded that The usage of bu, ma, mah (means mother)  five data and yah, pak, and pa (means father or daddy), the speaker respects to the hearer’s face by addressing her as mom. This considered her position is upper position; this does not threaten her face. This is used informally to her mother in relaxed situation. The usage of imperative sentences are four data when the hearer asks her young sister  to take the glass, then the subject asks her big sister to buy her dress, when she asks her young sister to take chilly and when the subject ask the money to pay rental house. This sentences forces her face’s hearer. This shows negative face. The last is speaker states “adek” young sister to her father means to soften request to her father due to the father will usually fulfill the young child.
