The scientific literacy skills of Indonesian students are still low. This condition encourages the government to improve the ability to solve problems, namely by issuing Permendikbud Number 65 of 2013 concerning the standards for the process of primary and secondary education, including the development of the domain of attitudes, knowledge, and skills. This development research aims to produce science learning tools on the topic of classification of living things in class VII of the SMP Negeri which are valid, practical and effective. Development research refers to the device development model with phases 1) Identifying problems, 2) Describing objectives, 3) Designing and developing devices, 4) Performing tests, 5) Evaluating test results, and 6) Communicating test results. Data was collected using instruments and evaluation questions. All data collected was analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the learning device was declared valid. Practical learning tools are used based on the results of the lesson plan implementation and student responses. Learning tools are also effectively based on results 1) cognitive assessment 2) psychomotor, social, and spiritual assessment, 3) critical thinking assessment, 4) student activity on teaching and learning activities and, 5) teacher response to teaching and learning activities.

Scientific literacy and critical thinking skill are the considerable 21st century competencies must be owned by nowadays students. This study aimed at determining the correlation among three variables i.e. critical thinking skill, motivation, and scientific literacy possessed by high school students. The research used a quantitative approach to explore the correlation among variables observed. The total sample were 124 of X MIPA graders selected using the simple random sampling technique. The data collection was carried out by providing test instruments to measure students’ critical thinking skill, motivation, and scientific literacy. The all variables then were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results showed that (1) there was a positive correlation between the critical thinking skill and scientific literacy (11.83%), (2) there was no significant correlation between motivation and scientific literacy, and (3) the both predictors (i.e. critical thinking skill and motivation) were able to predict the criterion (scientific literacy) (22.56%). It is suggested to optimize students’ critical thinking skill and motivation to sharpen students’ scientific literacy.

This study aims to develop and validate the Andana Responding Activity in Learning Scale (ARALS). This inventory will measure student response activities in learning. The response aspects that will be measured by this inventory are the activities of asking, answering and expressing opinions on the learning process that takes place based on the response theory put forward by Elliot et al. (1996) and Prayitno (2002). This research was conducted on 50 high school students using simple random sampling technique. Validity test using product moment correlation obtained 16 valid items with an overall validity value of 0.672. Furthermore, the instrument reliability test was carried out using the Croncbach Alpha formula, the coefficient value obtained was 0.921. The results of this study indicate that ARALS can be used by teachers/ school counselors to measure and understand students' conditions in responding to learning activities and are ready to be used for further research.

Tax reporting is the responsibility of taxpayers after making tax payments. The mismatch between the number of registered taxpayers and the number of taxpayers who report taxes is a separate problem for the government in managing the tax results received. Where the number who report taxes is very small compared to the number of registered taxpayers. Based on these problems, the purpose of this study is to determine the factors that influence individual taxpayer reporting compliance. The population used by all individual taxpayers who are registered at KPP Pratama Batam Selatan. While the sample was taken through simple random sampling technique with the Slovin formula so that the sample used was 100 respondents. Data analysis techniques are data instrument test, classical assumptions, descriptive analysis and hypothesis testing with the help of SPSS. The results obtained, partially the application of e-filling and tax sanctions has a significant effect on tax reporting compliance while tax awareness and understanding have no significant effect. The f test results show that all the independent variables simultaneously have a significant effect on the dependent variable.

It investigated the influence of self-efficacy on the students’ academic competence. These were with a view to providing information on factor that could influence the academic competence of secondary school students. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The population for the study comprised senior secondary school students in Osun State. The sample size comprised 600 respondents, selected using multistage sampling technique. One Local Government Area (LGA) was selected from each of the three senatorial districts in the State using simple random sampling technique. From each LGA, four senior secondary schools were selected using simple random sampling technique (12 schools in all) and from each school, 50 students were selected from senior secondary II using simple random sampling technique. Three instruments were used to collect information for the study, namely: Academic Competence Evaluation Scale (ACES), and General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES). Data collected were analyzed using percentages and ANOVA. The results showed that 9.41%, 60.21% and 30.37% of secondary school students in Osun State demonstrated low, moderate and high levels of academic competence respectively. The results of the study also indicated that there was a significant positive influence of self-efficacy on academic competence of the students (F =69.35; p<0.05). The study concluded that self-efficacy influenced academic competence of secondary school students in Osun State.

The research aims at finding out factors that contributed to the decline in HIV and AIDS prevalence rate in the Volta Region of Ghana from 2006 to 2008. Three research questions were asked to guide the review of related literature on the above–mentioned research topic.Simple random sampling was used to select 10 hospitals in the region for the study. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 250 respondents, thus 25 from each of the hospitals sampled. Questionnaire was the main instrument for data collection which consisted of 30 close ended items. The study revealed that in the opinion of 82.7% of health and medical personnel who responded to the questionnaire indicated that behaviour change contributed highly to the decline of HIV and AIDS prevalence rate in the Volta Region. Also, 84.4% and of 99.6% of the respondents agreed that specific HIV and AIDS interventions and HIV and AIDS education respectively contributed highly to the reduction in HIV prevalence rate in the Volta Region.
