In the present-day society, people spend about 80% of their time inside buildings, and specifically 30-40% in workplaces. From this evidence, the indoor environmental quality needs to be investigated, and in particular, the possible sources of indoor-outdoor pollutants and their impact on the human health, comfort and productivity. First, through an examination of the indoor sources of pollution, the research analysed the main substances that affect indoor air quality in an office. Second, the pollution of external origin and its effects on the performance of employees were taken into consideration. Two scenarios were designed for a Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) system in an office building; one by the installation of a biocidal filter and the other by a traditional one. Two methods were applied to evaluate and compare those scenarios; the Cost Benefit Analysis and the Monte Carlo Simulation. From a financial point of view, the investment and management costs of the filters were considered. Instead, the annual benefits included increasing productivity and reducing days of absence from work due to illness. The results confirmed the energy and socio-economic efficiency of the antibacterial filter; it can be considered a solution to achieve the best income.

The use of dogmatic-legal, empirical and linguistic semantics methodology is focused on sharing for better understanding of the law. Therefore, views on European jurisprudence have been presented in the paper. Without a doubt, the law-making nature of European Union law takes into account the field of environmental protection. Articles in law define the tasks that are important from the point of view of European legislation. The written nature of these determinants of the reasoning of the possibilities of environmental protection plays an important role in the interpretation of environmental law.

A brief review of the ecological state of artificial water bodies is presented on the example of the Voronezh and Matyr reservoirs located in the basin of the river. Voronezh. Ecological-geochemical interrelation of water areas of reservoirs and adjacent territories with anthropogenic sources of pollution located on them is shown. The basis of the research is the bioindication method for the communities of phytoplankton and microphytobenthos. Changes in the sanitary and biological quality of the waters have been studied in the reservoirs, which are related, in particular, to the effect of anomalously high summer air temperatures in 2010–2012 and in subsequent years, and for the Matyr reservoir against this background, an estimate of the effectiveness of the use of algobiotechnology is given.

The methodology for determining the procedure for environmental protection on the basis of a matrix representation of the conditions of the problem and the application of mathematical methods of information processing is substantiated. An algorithm is proposed for establishing the procedure for environmental protection during the closure of coal mines with limited funding. When mines are closed, environmental legislation provides for the implementation of a number of important technical measures ensuring the preservation of the environment in the zone of influence of the enterprise. A method is proposed that is based on determining the degree of risk of each environmental hazard factor, which allows one to “rank” environmental measures according to their “rank”. The main aspects of the negative environmental impact of densely populated mining regions are identified. The degree of environmental risk, from the point of view of using it to establish the frequency of environmental protection measures, is a criterial factor, determined on the basis of collegial decision-making by all interested participants in the process. The numerical characteristics that form the basis for decision making are determined. To assess the degree of environmental risk, the data of expert assessments are presented in the form of a matrix, which allows us to formalize the decision-making process on the frequency of environmental protection measures. In the process of forming a matrix of expert rating estimates, all indicators that determine the degree of environmental risk are taken into account. Moreover, among the indicators there are those that have a physical nature and are measured by physical quantities, and those that have a logical essence and are characterized as “yes” or “no”

Wastewater is residual water of industrial activities and domestic wastewater that is derived from daily activities of human life related to water usage, such wastewater should not be discharged into water bodies if it has not met the standards based on the regulation. Oil and grease contained in the water bodies will form a layer on the surface because the density of oil is lower than the density of water. The layer of oil and grease will block the entry of sunlight and cause the inability in the photosynthesis process of aquatic plants. The textile industry facilitates canteens within the company which operates daily at 11.00–13.00 Western Indonesian Time, resulting in the domestic wastewater from the canteen kitchen activities. The purpose of this study was to determine differences in the thickness variations of activated carbon to reduce oil and grease levels using modified grease traps on the canteen wastewater at PT. Sipatex Putri Lestari. The type of study used was categorized as a field experiment with a pretest–posttest research design. The population of the study was the entire canteen wastewater of PT. Sipatex Putri Lestari. The sampling technique used the time composite method. The univariate analysis of the study showed the average number of decreases in oil and grease levels in the treatment as 12.32, 15.98 and
