Kata kunci: Jagung kering, Metode pengeringan, Pascapanen, Produk olahan   ABSTRACT Simpang Alahan Mati sub-district is one of 12 sub-districts, Pasaman, West Sumatra Province. The existing farming in Simpang Alahan Mati District is corn farming. Pasaman as one of the center of corn plants, the productivity of corn plants increases every year. The corn crop is mostly sold by farmers in wet conditions without going through a drying process even though the price of dry corn is much more expensive than wet corn. This is because corn drying is done only by relying on direct sunlight so that it will become an obstacle when the rainy season. Therefore, the introduction or introduction of the use of drying machines through counseling is needed by farmers. Corn is one of the agricultural commodities that are perishable or easily damaged either due to physical damage or fungal contamination. During this time, corn farmers have not processed corn as a variety of processed products that provide added value economically. Utilization of corn is expected to increase not only as raw material, but can be processed into various food products of economic value such as various snacks such as tortilla chips. The results of this community service activity are counseling about the introduction of dryers and processing of processed corn products and the practice of making corn preparations, namely tortilla chips. This activity is expected to be able to empower the community through increased post-harvest knowledge and ability in processing various corn products. This activity is expected to contribute to increasing income for families through household business units that are able to produce corn processed products to improve the economy of corn farmers. Bamboo shoots being low in fat, high in dietary fiber and rich in mineral contents have been consumed traditionally by the people world over. Besides nutrients it also contains some anti-nutrients e.g. cyanogens. Due to seasonal availability of bamboo shoots, processing for reducing anti-nutrients in raw shoots while keeping nutrients intact and enhancement of shelf life of the value added products assume great significance for its utilization. This paper focuses on post harvest processing and value addition of bamboo shoots for its utilization as food products. Juvenile bamboo shoots of Bambusa bambos, B. tulda, Dendrocalamus asper and D. strictus were collected and processed, by boiling in brine solution, to remove the anti-nutrients (cyanogen). A simple, efficient and cost effective processing method for bamboo shoots was developed. This method significantly reduces the amount of cyanogens and retains considerable amount of nutrients and thus may be utilized for processing of bamboo shoots. Different value added edible products viz. chunks or bari (by adding pulses), pickle, sauce and papad (by adding potato) were prepared. All products were good in taste and texture. Nutritional analysis was done to determine the shelf life of the products. The nutrient content of processed products (chunks, sauce, pickle and papad) showed a gradual decrease and need to be consumed within 6 months from the date of making. However, in case of papad the carbohydrate content did not decrease much but the taste was not acceptable after 8 months. Whereas, in case of pickles, even nutrient content decreased but the product was acceptable even after two years after preparation as it was good in taste and texture. Thus, processing and value addition practices can be considered as key to the future of sustainable management of bamboo resources because they not only provide quality edible products but also enable harvesters/collectors to get better income opportunities.

The Thai fine gold jewelry export industry is a subsector of the gem and jewelry industry that is Thailand’s third most important export category and the leading sector of the creative industry. This industry creates little pollution, is in line with the nature of the Thai people, brings foreign currency into Thailand and creates both high value added and much employment. The growth rate for exports in this sector has decreased due to the economic downturn, fluctuating raw material costs, the unstable political situation in Thailand, lack of investment in technology by Thai manufacturers and the arrival of new entrants from China and India. It is important for Thai exporters to understand the situation they face so as to remain competitive. This paper reports on research conducted by in-depth interviews to identify key issues uniting and dividing Thai and Hong Kong Fine Gold Jewelry Exporters. It is shown that, in terms of new product development, Thai manufacturers should focus more on the marketing orientation rather than personal judgment. Only products that come with the right concept benefit from value added. Thai exporters should focus on product development, networking, be risk takers and foster cooperation between Thai organizers for international gems and jewelry fairs, while also lobbying for a long term government support plan.
