Anxiety disorders are the most common form of psychiatric disorders and start at an early age. The homeopathic system of complementary treatment is increasingly used by the general population. Ultra-diluted Aconite and Ignatia are homeopathic medicines used by clinicians for the treatment of anxiety. The objective of this study is to test the efficacy of Aconite 12CH and Ignatia 12CH on experimental anxiety models of Wistar rats subjected to chronic unpredictable stress. 30 Wistar rats were divided into 5 groups of Control, Stress, Vehicle, Aconite and Ignatia group with 6 animals in each group. All the groups were subjected to chronic unpredictable stress except the control group. The last two groups were fed Aconite and Ignatia through oral gavage daily for 5 weeks. Following this, a behavioral and biochemical assessment was done. It was observed that the Aconite and Ignatia treated animals showed better weight gain, but the behavioral and biochemical assessment did not show any significant change. Hence it was inferred that ultra-diluted Aconite and Ignatia though an anxiolytic used clinically, did not decrease anxiety in Wistar rats which were subjected to chronic unpredictable stress.

PURPOSE: Determine the effects of the MSG (monosodium glutamate) in the offspring of pregnant rats through the comparison of the weight, NAL (nasal-anal length) and IL (Index of Lee) at birth and with 21 days of life. METHODS: Pregnant Wistar rats and their offspring were divided into 3 groups: GC, G10 and G20. Each of the groups received 0%, 10% and 20% of MSG, respectively from coupling until the end of the weaning period. RESULTS: Neither weight nor NAL were different among the groups at birth. The group G20 at birth had an IL lower than the group GC (p<0,05) and with 21 days of life presented weight and NAL lower than the groups G10 and this lower than the GC (p<0,01). Otherwise the G20 at 21 days of life had the IL similar to the other two groups. The weight profit percentage from birth to the 21st day of life was lower in the G20 regarding the other two groups (p<0,01). The G20 had a NAL increase percentage from birth to the 21st day of life lower than the G10 and this lower than the GC (p<0,01). CONCLUSIONS: MSG presented a dose-dependent relation in the variables weight and NAL. It caused a decrease in the growth pattern as well as in the weight gain pattern until the 21st day of life. The IL of the group 20% had an increased in relation to the control group after 3 weeks of follow up.

Background: Oral mucosa ulceration which often occurs usually in the form of white-yellowish spot with concave surface, reddish edge and pain. Based on previous research, Aloe vera process anti-inflammation substance that could help quickening ulceration healing process. This research aims to know the effect of Aloe vera flesh extract on Male wistar rats oral mucosa ulceration in-vivo. Method: this research was quasi experimental research with the post-test only control group design using Male wistar rats as the testing animal. In the research, there were three treatment groups: The first groups which was given aquadest treatment, second groups with Aloe vera flesh extract, and third groups which was given chlorhexidine gluconate 0,2% treatment. The data collecting was based on histopathology observation concerning the increase of fibroblast quantity. Result: The research result based on comparison test among the three groups with One Way Anova showed that on Day 3th, the average quantity of fibroblast didn't have significant difference between the treatment group and control group positive that was p>0,05, meanwhile on Day 7th every group showed significant difference p<0,05. Conclusion: It concluded that Aloe vera flesh extract has influence on the healing of Male wistar rats oral mucosa ulceration as shown by fibroblast increasing quantity.

Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) are promising nanoplatforms for drug therapy, diagnostic and imaging. However, biological comparison studies for different types of AuNPs fail in consistency due to the lack of sensitive methods to detect subtle differences in the expression of toxicity. Therefore, innovative and sensitive approaches such as metabolomics are much needed to discriminate toxicity, specially at low doses. The current work aims to compare the in vivo toxicological effects of gold nanospheres versus gold nanostars (of similar ~40 nm diameter and coated with 11-mercaptoundecanoic acid) 24 h after an intravenous administration of a single dose (1.33 × 1011 AuNPs/kg) to Wistar rats. The biodistribution of both types of AuNPs was determined by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectroscopy. The metabolic effects of the AuNPs on their main target organ, the liver, were analyzed using a GC-MS-based metabolomic approach. Conventional toxicological endpoints, including the levels of ATP and reduced and oxidized glutathione, were also investigated. The results show that AuNPs preferentially accumulate in the liver and, to a lesser extent, in the spleen and lungs. In other organs (kidney, heart, brain), Au content was below the limit of quantification. Reduced glutathione levels increased for both nanospheres and nanostars in the liver, but ATP levels were unaltered. Multivariate analysis showed a good discrimination between the two types of AuNPs (sphere- versus star-shaped nanoparticles) and compared to control group. The metabolic pathways involved in the discrimination were associated with the metabolism of fatty acids, pyrimidine and purine, arachidonic acid, biotin, glycine and synthesis of amino acids. In conclusion, the biodistribution, toxicological, and metabolic profiles of gold nanospheres and gold nanostars were described. Metabolomics proved to be a very useful tool for the comparative study of different types of AuNPs and raised awareness about the pathways associated to their distinct biological effects.

Abstract Objective The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of grape seed extract containing cyanidin on osteoclastogenesis (by means of receptor activator of nuclear factor-κ B ligand [RANKL] and osteoprotegerin [OPG] levels) and the number of osteoclasts during orthodontic relapse in Wistar rats. Materials and Methods This study is an in vivo quasi experimental research. A total of 32 male Wistar rats were used in the study, which were randomly split equally into two groups, grape seed (GS) and control group (CG). All rats were given an orthodontic force of 35 cN using a stainless steel 3-spin coil spring that was activated for 7 days and then conditioned to be passive. During this phase, the GS group was administered grape seed extract containing cyanidin once per day. Orthodontic appliances were removed from both groups afterward, and then the alveolar bone tissue was isolated consecutively according to observation days (days 1, 3, 7, and 14), while OPG and RANKL levels were analyzed in their gingival crevicular fluid using a specific enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Tissues were then stained with hematoxylin–eosin (H&E) and observed under a light microscope to count the number of osteoclast cells. Data were analyzed statistically using an independent t-test (p < 0.05). Results The number of osteoclasts in the GS group was significantly lower than that in the CG group on all experiment days (p = 0.021; p = 0.001; p = 0.024; p = 0.001; p < 0.05). ELISA results showed that the RANKL level of the GS group was significantly lower on days 3 and 7 (p = 0.025; p = 0.039; p < 0.05), while the OPG level was significantly higher on days 1 and 3 in the GS group than in the CG group (p = 0.039; p = 0.021; p < 0.05). Conclusion Grape seed extract can prevent postorthodontic relapse movement by inhibiting osteoclastogenesis and reducing the number of osteoclasts in Wistar rats.

Abstract The prenatal exposure to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) is very controversial. There is no conclusive evidence for increased risk of malformations after SSRI use in pregnancy. The aim of the study was to determine how fluoxetine is affecting gestation and fetal development in rats. Twenty sexually mature female Wistar rats weighting between 250-260 g received 20 mg/kg body weight fluoxetine from the first day of gestation and during the entire gestation period.The drug was administered by oral route. Healthy, primipareus animals were selected along with 20 female Wistar rats, as control group. Mature males were caged with virgin females for an entire week. Rat’s behaviour during gestation, after birth and rats body weight was examined. The number of healthy pups was also noted. The females not giving birth after 21 days to any pup were anesthetized (halothane through gas scavenging apparatus untilled death) and the gravid uterus were dissected out and examined. Compared to the controlled group, in which weight gain was more significant, the animals from the experimental group had a slight increase in body weight. The weight gain normally induced by gestation, is less significant in fluoxetine treated rats due to the increase serotonin levels in the brain. The uteri examination of pregnant rats showed an increase in the number of dead and resorbed rat embryos. Preclinical studies suggest that the inclusion of fluoxetine in pregnancy category C is justified and the appropriateness of its administration in pregnancy is still an unresolved issue.

Abstract: Borax is an ingredient that is widely used for industrial or antiseptic cleaning agents that are toxic, but borax is used as an additive ind foods and any experience accumulated in the liver that can cause liver disfumction. Methods: The aim of  research is to see macroscopic and microscopic of live wistar rats were given different doses of borax. Rats were used as much as  10 animals were divided into 4 groups. The control group (K1) 1 rat, K2 ( borax 20mg), K3 (borax 30 mg), K4 (borax 40 mg) each of 3 rats by administration for 1,5 and 10 days. Result: The result showed the rats had grossly enlarged liver size, liver weight gain and blackish brown in the group given 40 mg of borax and microscopically, the cells were exposed to borax liver showed hydropic degeneration, proliferation fibrolas and fibrosis.  From this study it can be concluded that the administraion of borax 20mg, 30mg, 40mg for 10 days caused fatty liver and mild fibrosis. Keywords: Borax, Liver Disfunction.     Abstrak: Latar Belakang: Boraks merupakan bahan industri yang banyak digunakan untuk antiseptik atau zat pembersih. Akan tetapi boraks juga masih digunakan sebagai bahan tambahan pada makanan dan dapat memberikan efek karsinogenik dan disfungsi hati. Metode: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat gambaran histopatologi hati tikus wistar yang diberi boraks. Tikus yang digunakan sebanyak 10 ekor. Kelompok kontrol (K1) sebanyak 1 ekor tikus, K2, K3, K4 masing-masing 3 ekor tikus yang diberikan dosis 20mg, 30mg, dan 40mg yang diterminasi pada hari ke 1,5, dan 10. Hasil: Dari hasil penelitian menunjukkan secara mikroskopik sel hati yang terpapar boraks mengalami degenerasi hidropik, proliferasi fibrolas, dan secara makroskopis sel hati hewan coba mengalami perbesaran dan berwarna coklat kehitaman. Pemberian boraks 20mg, 30mg, dan 40mg dapat menyebabkan kerusakan hati. Kata Kunci: Boraks, Disfungsi Hati.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to evaluate the nutritional effects in Wistar rats of supplementation with stand-alone saturated fatty acid (SFA) or monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA), the replacement of SFA by MUFA and the combination of both (SFA + MUFA) over a long period of time (13 weeks). Design/methodology/approach In total, 30 Wistar rats were used and randomly assigned to receive (n = 6): control – lab chow; lard (L20%) – lab chow with added lard (20%); olive oil (O20%) – lab chow with added olive oil (20%); lard replacement with olive oil (L20% –O20%) – during six weeks lab chow with added lard (20%) replaced by lab chow with added olive oil (20%) given during the past seven weeks of the trial; lard combination with olive oil (L10% + O10%) – lab chow with added lard (10%) and olive oil (10%). Food and caloric intake, weight gain, food and energy efficiency, body mass index, bone mineral composition and blood biochemistry were evaluated. Findings All diets with added fatty acids showed higher energy intake (p < 0.001), weight gain (p = 0.01), accumulation of adipose tissue (p = 0.02) and food and energy efficiency (p = 0.01) compared to the control group. All groups exhibited higher levels of blood triglycerides compared to the control group (p = 0.02). In addition, the L10% + O10% group developed hyperglycemia (p < 0.001); the L group showed higher amounts of non- high density lipoprotein (HDL-c) (p = 0.04); and the L20%−O20% group exhibited high levels of the triglyceride/HDL-c ratio (p = 0.04) in relation to the control. Originality/value These results indicate that regardless of the fatty acid type, consumption in large quantities of fatty acids for long periods of time can cause obesity and dyslipidemia.

The aim of this study is to investigate the antitumor activity of Plantago major L. extract in Ehrlich ascites tumor (EAT) bearing Balb/C mice in vivo. Thirty male Balb/C mice were divided into 5 groups: 3 treatment groups and 2 control groups (6 per group). Treatment groups and the negative control group were injected with EAT (1 × 106 cells) intraperitoneally to develop ascites tumor. P. major L. extract (1%, 2% and 3% concentration extracts, 0.1 ml/day/mouse) were given p.o. for 10 alternate days. The control group was treated with 0.9% NaCl solution (0.1 ml/day/mouse). The changes of body weight in animals were recorded. On the 11th day, all of the mice were sacrified and their tissues were stained with haematoxylen and eosin for pathological studies. Body weights of in 3 treatment groups and the negative control group were elevated because of tumor burden. The maximal weight gain was recorded in the negative control group and the minimal weight gain was recorded in Group I. Pathological studies showed that P. major L. extract (especially 1% concentration) has inhibitive effect on EAT. P. major has an inhibitory effect on EAT in a dose dependent manner.

This study was carried out to investigate the possible toxic effects of the water extract from Khaya grandifoliola stem bark in Wistar rats. The acute assay used 9 females distributed into 3 groups of 3 rats each. A control group received distilled water and the two test groups received by oral gavage a unique dose of the extract at 2000 mg/kg. In subacute assay, 60 rats both sexes were distributed into 6 groups of 10 rats each (5 males and 5 females) and received the extract by oral gavage for 28 days consecutively. The tests groups received extract at 250, 500 and 1000 mg/kg. The controls and satellite test groups received respectively distilled water and extract at the dose of 1000 mg/kg. Some anthropometrical, hematological and biochemical parameters were measured and histological sections of some organs were realized. LD50 was superior at 2000 mg/kg in acute assay. In subacute toxicity assay, Khaya grandifoliola stimulated the haematopoetic and immune function, showed a significant decrease of alanine transaminase, aspartate transaminase and hypocholesterolaemic effects. Histopathology showed the presence of disturbances at the dose of 1000 mg/kg especially. K. grandifoliola stem bark could possess moderate toxicity at high doses and adequate caution should be exercised in its use in ethnomedicine.

Background: Ivory palm water (Cocos capitata) has a high potassium content. Potassium ion can depolarized excited dental nerve on dentin hypersensitivity. This study was to determine the effect of water gel ivory palm against dentine hypersensitivity by the anxiety level of mice using RGS (Rat Grimace Scale).Method: This research has been through ethical clearance which researchmethod was quasy experimental in vivo. The sample was 16 Wistar rats (Rattus novergicus) male 4-5 months with 4 mice in each group. Group I as a positive control. Group II as the ivory palm water gel 10% treatment group. Group III as the ivory palm water gel 70% treatment group. Group IV as a negative control. Research data analysis used Kruskal Wallis test with p <0.05 then continued by Mann Whitney test.Result: Kruskal Wallis test obtained significant difference between the four study groups (p <0.05). Mann Whitney test results in comparison either between positive control group and ivory palm water gel 10% and 70%, and comparison group of ivory palm water gel 10% and 70% weren’t significantly different.Conclusion: This study conclusion there was no significant difference between ivory palm water gel 10 % and 70 % in reducing anxiety level in male Wistar rats with dentinal hypersensitivity
