The purpose of this study is to describe the ability to write story texts for students of the Indonesian Language Education Undergraduate Program FKIP Bengkulu University. The scope of this research covers aspects of (1) the suitability of the theme with the content, (2) the structure of the story text, (3) the choice of words (diction), (4) the use of story-style sentences, and (5) the Indonesian Language spelling and handwriting. This research uses descriptive method and quantitative approach. The research population was all students of the Indonesian Language Education Study Program FKIP Bengkulu University in the odd semester of 2018/2019 and the sample was purposive sampling, determining that there were 34 students in semester III-A. Collecting data uses test techniques and instruments in the form of instructions for writing stories with the theme of "love" and guidelines for assessing the ability to write stories based on five components, including content, text structure, diction, sentences, and mechanics. Data analysis used descriptive statistics to find the mean and determined qualitative results. The results showed that the ability to write story texts for the students of the Indonesian Language Education Undergraduate Program, FKIP Bengkulu University, was categorized as good. This is based on the score of all components with an average of 73.97. These results still require efforts to improve to be better. The results of each aspect of the ability to write story texts, namely aspects (1) the suitability of the theme with the content, good category (18.94), (2) story structure, good category (16.09), (3) accuracy of diction in good category (score 14 ,3), (4) narrative language style sentences are in good category (17.24), and (5) mechanics (BI spelling and handwriting) are in good category (7.32).

The aim of this research is to know the Students’ Abilityin understanding Figurative language at the eight year students of English language education study program of UNCP. This study focuses on figurative testing specially in metaphor test. Quantitative descriptive method is the research design that the researcher used in this research. The population in this research was the eight year students of English Language Education Study Program,and sample in this research was 30 students. The ability of students is verypoor that the mean score was 32.67 which is classified into “low level” score category.

The objectives of this research is to know students’ competence in critical reading at the fourth semester students of English Language Education Study Program, Khairun University consisting of 20 students who were selected by using purposive sampling technique. The researcher  applied quantitative descriptive method and analyzed the data by using critical reading rubric. From the data analyzed, the data showed nine students was categorized good. Ten students was categorized fair and one students was categorized poor. The analysis of questions the data showed that students’ got highest average score 56 on the question number eigh as categorized fair.  So, it can be concluded the students’ fourth semester of Khairun University Ternate have fair competence in critical reading.

<p><em>The background of this research was the importance of masteringKanji in learning Japanese since most Japanese transcriptions use it. However, the large number of Kanjicharacters gave students difficulty to understand kanji.The objective of this researchis was to study Kanji mastery level of  7th semester students of Japanese Education program in the academic year of 2016. This quantitative research applied the descriptive method. The object of the research was 25 students. To select the sample of the research is by using the purposive sampling technique. Data were taken fromthe scores of the students’ Kanjitest. The instrument of the research was an essay test which measured the students’ abilities in writing the Kanjicharacters. Based on the research results, it is found that the students’ mastery was in the “satisfactory” classification with score of 59,68.</em></p>

Abstract The purposes of the study were to explain the effects of implicit instruction on student’s sociopragmatic competences, implicit instructions on students’ pragmalinguistic competences, explicit instructions on students’ sociopragmatic competences, explicit instructions on students’ pragmalinguistic competences, the differences between implicit and explicit instructions on students’ sociopragmatic competences, the differences between implicit and explicit instructions on student’s pragmalinguistic competences, and the interaction between instructions with the students’ sociopragmatic and pragmalinguistic competences. The study used a quantitative research by using experimental factorial design 2x2. The data were taken from 80 second semester students at English Language Education Study Program at STAIN. The result of the study revealed that the mean score of post-test in implicit instruction on students’ sociopragmatic was 80.000 while explicit 92.550. Meanwhile, the mean score of post-test in implicit instruction on students’ pragmalinguistic was 83.000 while explicit 95.5000. It could be concluded that explicit has better effect to teach refusal strategies than implicit instruction on students’ sociopragmatic and pragmalinguistic competence based on the difference between the means score on implicit and explicit.

This research aims to reveal the extent of pedagogical-competence of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta’s students as prospective vocational teachers. It will serve as a measure of their readiness to become vocational teachers. The research method was a quantitative approach with a descriptive method to present the pedagogical-competence profile of the students from each study program. The research population was students from several educational study programs, namely Electronics, Mechanical, and Automotive. Samples of 175 students were taken from each study program’s class. The pedagogical competence was evaluated using test questions which instruments have been validated by experts. The result shows that the average competence is 50,24. To breakdown this finding, the averages of pedagogical-competence are 44,71 and 50,60 for students in the 3rd and 5th semester, respectively. The comparison data for the averages of the 3rd to 5th-semester students in each study programs are as follows: Electronics are 54,80 to 46,45; Mechanical are 50, 24 and 54,91; and Automotive are 24,18 to 50,72Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap seberapa jauh kompetensi pedagogik mahasiswa calon guru teknik di Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta sebagai ukuran kesiapan mereka untuk menjadi guru kejuruan. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan penelitian kuantatif dengen metode deskriptif untuk menunjukkan profil kompetensi pedagogi dari mahasiswa dari masing-masing program studi. Populasi penelitian adalah mahasiswa Prodi PT. Elektronika, PT. Mesin, dan PT. Otomotif. Sampel diambil masing-masing prodi satu kelas yang berjumlah 175 mahasiswa. Kompetensi pedagogik diukur melalui tes dengan instrumen soal yang telah divalidasi oleh ahli. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rerata 50,24. Secara rinci rerata mahasiswa semester 3: 44, 71 dan semester 5: 50,60. Prodi Elektronika rerata kompetensi pedagogi mahasiswa semester 3: 54,80 dan semester 5: 46,45; Mahasiswa Prodi PT Mesin, rerata skor semester 3: 50, 24 dan semester 5: 54,91; Mahasiswa Prodi PT Otomotif semester 3: 24,18 dan Semester 5: 50,72

ABSTRACT This article reveals the  politeness strategy for students speaking to lecturers through WhatsApp communication. There are the four purposes of this research. First, describe the student’s speaking strategy to lecturers via WhatsApp communication. Second, describe the principle of politeness to lecturers through WhatsApp. Third, describe the scale of student language politeness. Fourth, describe the politeness of student language to lecturers. The design of this study is qualitative with descriptive method. This research was conducted at the Indonesian Language Education Study Program, Padang State university. The data was collected from two semesters, namely the odd semester of July―Desember 2019 and the even semester of Januari―June 2020. Basedon the results of the study, it can be concluded that the most widely used strategy is the strategy of speaking using negative politeness and student speech can be said to be polite. Kata kunci: Strategi, Kesantunan Bertutur, Mahasiswa kepada Dosen, Komunikasi WhatsApp.

Japanese is an elective course that can be taken by every student in the Nursing Study Program of Stikes Ranah Minang. References regarding the teaching material given to the students must be appropriate so that they can get the benefit from this course. To find out the reference, it is necessary to do a needs analysis so that the students get the material that they really need to support their learning process at present time or in the future. This study was conducted to analyze the needs of Japanese language learners. The research was conducted with a qualitative approach and descriptive method. The research population is the students who are taking the course of Japanese Language II at the Stikes Ranah Minang Nursing Study Program. The research instrument used is a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the descriptive techniques in the form of numbers and percentages.

The growing users of Android-based devices among students and demands the implementation of online learning to encourage innovation in the preparation of learning. One of the innovations following these conditions is the preparation of teaching materials based on Android. The purpose of this study is to find out of needs analysis of Android-Based learning materials for istimāʻ (lisetening) III  in Arabic Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Languages and Arts, Universitas Negeri Jakarta. The study analyses the student needs using the descriptive method. While the data will be collected questionnaire. Then, the data analyzed with a quantitative technique. There are three steps of the process that will go through, namely data reduction, data display, and taking a conclusion. The sample of this study was 40 fifth semester students. The result of the study shows that all students own and use based on Android smartphones and students want istimāʻ III materials to build in the based-on Android application.

The pedagogics competence of Indonesian language education students as prospective professional teachers is needed to improve the quality Indonesian language learning process. This study aimed to describe the pedagogics competence of students as prospective professional teachers in the Indonesian language education study program. This research uses a descriptive method. This study's subjects were all seventh-semester students in the Indonesian language education study program who programmed microteaching courses for the 2020/2021 academic year, totalling 34 students. The research data collection uses a pedagogic ability test through a google form. The percentage of students who have pedagogic abilities is reviewed by each indicator, namely: Indicator I of 11.76%, indicator II of 72.06%, indicator III of 57.35, indicator IV of 23.53, indicator V of 61.76, indicator VI of 79.41, indicator VII of 64.71, indicator VIII is 48.53, and indicator IX is 58.82. Overall, the percentage of achievement indicators obtained is 53.10%. So, it can be concluded in this study that the pedagogic ability of the seventh-semester students in the Indonesian language education study program is in a low category.

Learning outcomes of language error analysis courses are students mastering linguistic theories, types of language analysis, and language error analysis techniques and are able to apply theories of language error analysis at each level of linguistics. But unfortunately, the learning achievement is difficult to achieve because based on the phenomenon that the writer found as lecturer in the course of language error analysis, many students could not reach the determined target and did not have the criteria set by the lecturer or university lecturer. Based on this problem, the formulation of the problem of this research is how to analyze the errors of grammar study program of Indonesian Language and Literature in Riau Islamic University. The study used a descriptive method with a research population of all sixth semester students of the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program at the Riau Islamic University and used random sampling as a research sample. Research Results The ability to analyze language errors in the level of phonology of Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program at Islamic University with an average score of 47.32 with a very poor category. Meanwhile, the ability to analyze language errors at the level of morphology of Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program Students at Islamic University with an average score of 33.13 with the category of failure.
