This research was intended to investigate the connection between Knowledge Hiding and In-role Behavior. The relationship between independent and dependent variables was calculated by the Pearson correlation and simple regression analysis. The data was randomly collected through a self-administered questionnaire from 129 staff working in private sector universities.  This was a cross-sectional analysis and the findings showed that Knowledge Hiding negatively affect the in-role behavior of employees (r = 41.6, β = -.645, t = 9.51, p < 0.005). The results of this study suggested that universities need to focus on the Knowledge Hiding Behavior of employees in order to achieve their objectives and improve quality.

We examine the relationship between the amount of shares held by Chaebol’s other affiliated firms and affiliated firm's ownership-control disparity. To this end, the ownership-control disparity equations are estimated with the ownership-control disparity index and the voting right leverage index as dependent variables, using cross-sectional data on 78 affiliated firms in Chaebols in 2005. These Chaebols are controlled by the ceiling on the total amount of holding shares of other affiliated firms in Chaebol. The estimation results with the ownership-control disparity index indicate that the increase in the amount of shares held by Chaebol’s other affiliated firms deepens the ownership-control disparity. And the amount of net assets and the amount of cash flow mitigate the ownership-control disparity. The estimation results of the voting right leverage index are almost the same as those of the ownership-control disparity index. We also find that the ownership-control disparity index is more elastic than the voting right leverage index with respect to the amount of shares held by Chaebol’s other affiliated firms. Overall, these empirical findings suggest that the ceiling on the total amount of holding shares of other affiliated firms in Chaebol can contribute to the desirable corporate governance.

Introduction The nursing literature is silent about the relationship between ethical leadership, nurses’ flourishing, and extra-role behavior. This study was carried out to contribute to the relevant field research. Objective The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between nurses’ perceptions of their nursing managers’ ethical leadership behavior, nurses’ flourishing, and their extra-role behavior. Methods This was a cross-sectional study involving 302 nurses from six hospitals in Damietta City, Egypt. Data were collected using the following three self-report scales: Ethical Leadership at Work questionnaire, Flourishing Scale, and extra-role behavior scale. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistical, Pearson correlation, regression analysis and the structure equation model. Results There was a significant positive relationship between nursing managers’ ethical leadership, nurses’ flourishing, and extra-role behavior. The regression analysis showed that the ethical leadership of nursing managers and nurses’ flourishing predict extra-role behavior. Conclusion Nurses with a high level of flourishing and who work with a manager exhibiting ethical leadership behavior are more likely to activate extra-role behavior. Hence, it is recommended that nursing managers embrace an ethical approach in their leadership practices and promote flourishing among nurses to encourage them to go the extra the mile in their jobs.

The aim of this paper was to study the impact of intrinsic rewards on loyalty of employees working in restaurants situated in district Swat. This cross-sectional study was quantitative in nature and used non-probability sampling of 202 employees from restaurants. The self-administered questionnaire included demographic section, the intrinsic rewards and Swat Loyalty Scale (SLS). The data was analysed by applying Pearson Correlation and Regression. The results of the study confirmed a positive and significant relationship between intrinsic rewards and employee loyalty of employees working in restaurants. This study contributes to the employee loyalty Literature and, more specifically, to the relationship between intrinsic rewards and loyalty in the restaurants sector of district Swat. The outcome of the study draws the attention of decision makers to the importance of intrinsic rewards and its impact on the employee loyalty. Abstract. Previous research suggests that parenting style influences the development of the needs for achievement, power, and affiliation. The present study investigated the relationship between parenting style and another important motive disposition – the need for autonomy – in a sample of Singapore university students ( N = 97, 69% female), using a cross-sectional and retrospective design. It was predicted that an authoritative perceived parenting style would relate positively to the implicit need for autonomy ( nAut), the explicit need for autonomy ( sanAut), and the congruence between these two motive dispositions. Authoritative maternal parenting was found to positively associate with sanAut, while maternal parenting was not found to associate with nAut, or with nAut/ sanAut congruence. Paternal parenting was not associated with any of the dependent variables.

Objectives: Evaluate the relationship between the opioid epidemic and homicide rates in the United States. Methods: A county-level cross-sectional analysis covering the period 1999 to 2015. The race-specific homicide rate and the race-specific opioid-related overdose death rate are regressed on demographic, social, and economic covariates. Results: The race-specific opioid-related overdose death rate is positively associated with race-specific homicide rates, net of controls. The results are generally robust across alternative samples and model specifications. Conclusions: We interpret the results as reflecting the violent dynamics of street drug markets, although more research is needed to draw definitive conclusions about the mechanisms linking opioid demand and homicide.

Sex hormone changes in adults are known to play a part in aging, including cognitive aging. Dietary intake of phytoestrogens can mimic estrogenic effects on brain function. Since sex hormones differ between genders, it is important to examine gender differences in the phytoestrogen–cognition association. Therefore, the goal of this study is to examine the relationship between urinary phytoestrogens and speed of processing (SOP) and the variation of the association between genders in older adults. Participants were drawn from the 1999–2002 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and included 354 individuals aged 65–85 years old. General linear models (GLMs) were used to test for significant gender differences in the relationship between phytoestrogens and SOP. Results from the GLMs showed significant gender differences in the relationship between genistein and SOP. Higher levels of genistein were associated with better SOP in women. This relationship was reversed in men: higher genistein levels were associated with worse performance. Results indicate that there are distinct gender differences in the relationship between genistein and SOP. These results emphasize the importance of considering gender differences when devising dietary and pharmacologic interventions that target phytoestrogens to improve brain health.

Purpose – Leader-member exchange (LMX) has been proposed as a core mechanism which accounts for the impact of various antecedents on employee outcomes. As such, the purpose of this paper is to examine the mediating effect of LMX regarding the relationship between leader positive humor and employees’ perceptions of organizational cynicism. Design/methodology/approach – Data were collected from 114 public employees. In order to examine the authors’ hypotheses hierarchical regression analysis was conducted. Findings – As hypothesized, results demonstrated that LMX mediates the relationship between leader positive humor and organizational cynicism. Research limitations/implications – Data were drawn from public employees and, therefore, this may constrain the generalizability of the results. Also, the cross-sectional analysis of the data cannot directly assess causality. Originality/value – This is the first empirical study to examine the mediating effect of LMX in the relationship between leader humor and employees’ perceptions of organizational cynicism.

Sedentarism is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD), but currently it is not clear how a sedentary behavior such as long sitting time can affect atherosclerosis development. This study examined the relationship between sitting time and the prevalence of carotid and femoral subclinical atherosclerosis. A cross-sectional analysis based on a subsample of 2082 participants belonging to the Aragon Workers’ Health Study was carried out. Ultrasonography was used to assess the presence of plaques in carotid and femoral territories; the validated Spanish version of the questionnaire on the frequency of engaging in physical activity used in the Nurses’ Health Study and the Health Professionals’ was used to assess physical activity and sitting time; and demographic, anthropometric, and clinical data were obtained by trained personnel during the annual medical examination. Participants were categorized into <9 h/day and ≥9 h/day sitting time groups. After adjusting for several confounders, compared with participants that remain seated <9 h/day, those participants who remain seated ≥9 h/day had, respectively, OR = 1.25 (95%CI: 1.01, 1.55, p < 0.05) and OR = 1.38 (95%CI: 1.09, 1.74, p < 0.05) for carotid and any-territory plaque presence. Remaining seated ≥9 h/day is associated with higher odds for carotid and any-territory plaque presence independently of physical activity levels and other cardiovascular risk factors.

The major objective of this study was to measure the association between various interventions and Chitral Gole National Park (CGNP) role in preservation of bio-diversity and socio-economic uplift. A sample size of 346 respondents was randomly selected from total population of 3326 from the 4 selected villages on the basis of close proximity. A conceptual framework including dependent variable social development and independent variable tourism development were taken. The data were analyzed through frequency and percentage distribution. Moreover, Chi-square test was applied to know the relationship between dependent and independent variables at bi-variate level. In bi-variate analysis a highly significant (P=0.000) relation was found between CGNP is main source of promoting tourism in Chitral,tourists do any impacts upon local community in terms of increased business activities, local culture is safeguarded despite influx of tourists in the area, tourism produced employment opportunities, and social development. Qualitative data supported the empirical findings, however tourism brings economic opportunities at micro and macro level, but unfortunately CGNP is not as satisfactory regarding generating income since its establishment. The government should ensure to make such polices pertaining to the entrance fee, provides accommodation services on payment to the tourists and to reserve the entrance fee or any other form of taxes to ensure CGNP to spend on self-sustaining basis by ensuring refinement in the procedures as well.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between workplace incivility and knowledge hiding, and role of personality disposition (neuroticism) in moderating such relationships.Design/methodology/approachData were collected from 108 employees nested in 18 teams from private sectors via survey questionnaire. Confirmatory factor analysis and hierarchical regression models were used to test the hypotheses.FindingsThe findings show that the higher the level of workplace incivility experienced by the team members, the higher the tendency for them to hide knowledge and this relationship is moderated by neuroticism. Specifically, the relationship was found to be stronger for those employees high in neuroticism compared to those low in neuroticism.Practical implicationsThe study offers important implication in term of knowledge hiding prevention or reduction. The behavior can be reduced by creating awareness among employees on the importance of civility at work via campaign, realistic job preview and leading by example. To manage the effect of neuroticism, managers need to identify those high in the trait and provide them with training on how to better regulate and manage negative emotions in the workplace.Originality/valueThe study contributes to the research on knowledge hiding behavior by advancing the understanding of organizational and personal factors that can influence knowledge hiding among employees working in team. It is the first to propose and empirically validate the predictive effect of workplace incivility on knowledge hiding. It also addresses the usefulness of examining personality disposition in understanding the relationship between workplace incivility and knowledge hiding behavior.
