The aging is a natural process that cannot be avoided with age. Even though it is a natural thing, the process of aging still causes problems both physically, biologically, mentally and socio-economically due to a decline which is called a degenerative process The process of degeneration that occurs in the elderly, causes time. World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed that there were 600 million elderly people in 2012 worldwide. WHO also noted that there are 142 million elderly people in the Southeast Asia region. Meanwhile, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), it was noted that the number of elderly people in Indonesia reached 28 million in 2012 from only 19 million in 2006. The results of the data recapitulation of the Central Java health office recorded 3 million elderly people in Central Java. The method in this study was experimental research and quasi-experimental design type with quasi-experimental design and village control group. Sample determination using the Total Sampling technique with a sample size of 30 respondents. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test. The results obtained before being given an intervention that has a level of good sleep quality amounted to 43.3% and after given an intervention that has a level of quality of sleep that is good, the minimum is 76.7%. Statistically obtained a p-value of 0,000 (<0.05) can be interpreted that there is a significant influence on brain gymnastics on the quality of sleep in the elderly.

Aim: The aim of this study was to assess effectiveness of foot massage on incisional pain and sleep pattern among post caesarean mothers. Background: Cesarean section (C.S) is the birth of fetus through a trans-abdominal incision in the uterus. Persistent post-operative pain is a well- known consequence of caesarean section. Some studies have found alternative methods such as acuapressure, aromatherapy and massage therapy to be fairly effective for treatment of post caesarean pain and improve the quality of sleep pattern. Foot massage appears to be effective, in expensive, low risk, flexible and easily applied. So, foot massage was used to assess its effect on incisional pain and sleep pattern among post caesarean mothers. Design: A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group research design was used with non-probability purposive sampling technique to selected sample. Material and Methods: Sample of 60 post caesarean mothers from selected hospitals, 30 each in experimental group and control group were selected. Assessment of level of incisional pain was done by using standardized numerical pain rating scale whereas assessment of sleep pattern was done by using modified Groningen sleep quality index scale. Analysis was done by using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings: Findings showed that in experimental group, 93.24% post caesarean mothers had mild level of pain and 6.66% had moderate level of incisional pain. Whereas in control group, 40% had mild level of pain and 60% had moderate level of pain. On the other hand, 93.33 % post caesarean mothers had good sleep and 6.66% had poor quality of sleep pattern. Whereas in control group 100% post caesarean mothers had poor sleep pattern. Conclusion: Thus, the study concluded that the difference between mean pretest and posttest score was found statistically significant at p < 0.05 level in experimental group. Hence, research hypothesis was accepted and it revealed that there was impact of foot massage among post caesarean mothers in experimental group.

Abstract Background A high prevalence of anxiety in the elderly often leads to decreased quality of life (QOL). A restrictive diet can increase the production of ketone bodies that encourage mood enhancement, neural protection and pain reduction. This study aimed to identify whether Dawood fasting could increase the QOL of the elderly by reducing anxiety. Methods This research was a quasi-experimental study involving a pretest–post-test control group design. The subjects were pre-elderly and elderly or healthy people aged more than 50, and a consecutive sampling method was employed. The fasting group observed the fast of Dawood, in which they abstained from eating, drinking, or having sexual intercourse from the break of dawn to dusk with the expressed intent to fast every other day. The fast was observed for 22 days (11 fasting days). Anxiety was examined using the Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety (HRS-A), while QOL was identified using the Indonesian version of the World Health Organisation Quality of Life (WHOQOL). Results A total of 48 respondents participated in this study with 24 respondents observing the fast of Dawood and 24 others not fasting. Results showed that the 22 days of Dawood fast reduced respondents’ complaints about anxiety by 4.37% and was significantly different from the non-fasting group (p=0.001). There was an increase in the QOL of the fasting group (p=0.019), although no significant difference was found when compared to the non-fasting group. Conclusions The fast of Dawood reduced anxiety in the pre-elderly and elderly.
