The article is focused on the natural experimental research of injection waterproofing impact on basement areas of existingbuildings brick walls. Two types of experimental installations for waterproofing material injection have been developed. Thesecond type turned out to be more efficient due to the fact that it could cover larger waterproofing wall area. It can possiblyspeed up the process of walls waterproofing and major repairs of buildings in general. According to the experimental data, after the injection waterproofing placement, the wall moisture content decreased by half due to the high quality waterproofingmaterial and performed installation work.

Cavity solar receivers are generally believed to have higher thermal efficiencies than external receivers due to reduced losses. A simple analytical model was presented by the author which indicated that the ability to heat the air inside the cavity often controls the convective loss from cavity receivers. Thus, if the receiver contains a large amount of inactive hot wall area, it can experience a large convective loss. Excellent experimental data from a variety of cavity configurations and orientations have recently become available. These data provided a means of testing and refining the analytical model. In this manuscript, a brief description of the refined model is presented. Emphasis is placed on using available experimental evidence to substantiate the hypothesized mechanisms and assumptions. Detailed comparisons are given between analytical predictions and experimental results. Excellent agreement is obtained, and the important mechanisms are more clearly delineated.

The geometry of overlapping tubular joints, the equations of intersection curves and the coordinate of the intersection point are introduced first. The variational method for simple tubular joints is extended to the stress analysis of tubular K-joints with overlap. The computer program is compiled. The stress concentration factor and the position of the hot spot of an overlapping joint are found. For the sake of proving the feasibility of our analysis and program, the computed results are compared with experimental data of our photoelastic experiment and other experiments.

The moisture contents of powders is an important parameter that affects the quality and commercial value of spray dried products. The utility of predicted moisture content values from two droplet drying models were compared with experimental data for spray dried pineapple juice, using the Ranz-Marshal and its modified variants for the heat and mass transfer correlations. The droplet Diffusion model, using the Zhifu correlation, gave estimates with errors of about 8% at 165 oC, 9% at 171 oC, 26% at 179 oC and 2% at 185 oC. The Ranz-Marshal correlation also gave comparable results with this model while results using the Downing and modified Ranz-Marshall correlations widely diverged. The Energy balance model predicted completely dried juice particles, and short drying times, in contrast to the experimental data. The small error sizes of the Diffusion model improves on the wide error sizes of an earlier process model, making is useful as a first approximation choice, for spray drier design and simulation, especially for juices under comparable operating conditions.

One challenge for volume manufacturing of 4H-SiC devices is the state-of-the-art wafer dicing technology – the mechanical blade dicing which suffers from high tool wear and low feed rates. In this paper we discuss Thermal Laser Separation (TLS) as a novel dicing technology for large scale production of SiC devices. We compare the latest TLS experimental data resulting from fully processed 4H-SiC wafers with results obtained by mechanical dicing technology. Especially typical product relevant features like process control monitoring (PCM) structures and backside metallization, quality of diced SiC-devices as well as productivity are considered. It could be shown that with feed rates up to two orders of magnitude higher than state-of-the-art, no tool wear and high quality of diced chips, TLS has a very promising potential to fulfill the demands of volume manufacturing of 4H-SiC devices.

DRYING CURVES AND WATER ACTIVITY EVALUATION OF THE BANANA-PASSES Abstract Banana drying curves were determined by utilizing three drying air temperatures. The results indicated that to reduce the moisture content of the product until 23.5% it were necessary drying times of 51, 36 and 30 hours for temperatures of 50, 60 and 70ºC, respectively. The exponential model U/Uo = exp(-kt) was adjusted for the experimental data by means of non linear regression analysis, and a high coefficient of linear regression was found. The water activity of the product was determined throughout the drying process for the three tested temperatures. The correlation between the water activity and moisture content of the product was studied, and the sorption isotherms were determined at 25º C. It was observed that the water activity decreased in function to the drying time and moisture content for the three drying temperatures. The experimental data were adjusted by means of non linear regression to the polynomial model and the following equation was obtained: U = - 1844.93 + 7293.53A a – 9515.52 Aa 2 + 4157.196A a 3. The final adjust was satisfactory (R2 > 0.90).

This investigation examines and compares the water sorption isotherms and the thermodynamic properties of two pharmaceutical preparations (Hypril and Azix) intended to be manufactured with the same process plant and equipment. The moisture equilibrium isotherms were determined at 50, 60 and 70 °C using a gravimetric technique. Five isotherm models were explored for their fitting to the experimental data. Azix showed sigmoid type II isotherms while Hypril showed type III isotherms according to the BET classification. All investigated models fitted well the water sorption isotherms of Hypril. By contrast, only GAB and Adam and Shove equations gave appropriate fit to the experimental data of Azix. For both formulations, the isosteric heat and the differential entropy decreased sharply with the increase of equilibrium moisture content to minimum values and thereafter remain constant. In the case of Azix, the integral enthalpy decreased with equilibrium moisture content while the integral entropy increased until reaching a constant value. Contrariwise, Hypril showed decreasing of the integral enthalpy and entropy with the equilibrium moisture content. Noni seeds have been used for years as an important medicinal source, with wide use in the pharmaceutical and food industry. Drying is a fundamental process in the post-harvest stages, where it enables the safe storage of the product. Therefore, the present study aimed to fit different mathematical models to experimental data of drying kinetics of noni seeds, determine the effective diffusion coefficient and obtain the activation energy for the process during drying under different conditions of air temperature. The experiment used noni seeds with initial moisture content of 0.46 (decimal, d.b.) and dehydrated up to equilibrium moisture content. Drying was conducted under different controlled conditions of temperature, 40; 50; 60; 70 and 80 ºC and relative humidity, 24.4; 16.0; 9.9; 5.7 and 3.3%, respectively. Eleven mathematical models were fitted to the experimental data. The parameters to evaluate the fitting of the mathematical models were mean relative error (P), mean estimated error (SE), coefficient of determination (R2), Chi-square test (c2), Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) and Schwarz’s Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC). Considering the fitting criteria, the model Two Terms was selected to describe the drying kinetics of noni seeds. Effective diffusion coefficient ranged from 8.70 to 23.71 × 10-10 m2 s-1 and its relationship with drying temperature can be described by the Arrhenius equation. The activation energy for noni seeds drying was 24.20 kJ mol-1 for the studied temperature range.
