Improving the Quality of Broiler Duck Carcasses with the Addition of Meniran Plan (Phylanthus niruri L.) Extract as a Feed Additive

The purpose of this research was to determine the improvement of the carcass quality of broiler ducks with the addition of meniran extract as a feed additive. This is based on the fluctuating price of feed 70 – 80% is part of the operational costs and the prohibition on the use of antibiotics requires alternative feed additives that are safe for human consumption. This research was carried out in Juni – August 2021 in Dayu Village, Nglegok District Blitar Regency. The method used is experimental with 4 treatments and 3 replications. The design used is Completely Randomized Design. The result showed that giving meniran extract as a feed additive could improve the carcass quality of broiler duck including carcass weight and carcass percentage and dit not have a significant effect on slaughter weight. It is recommended to use meniran plan extract level 3% to improve the carcass quality of broiler ducks.

This study aimed to examine the effect of turmeric or garlic supplementation to fermented Sauropus androgynus-bay leaves (FSBL) containing diet on performance, carcass quality and meat organoleptic status in broilers. This study used a completely randomized design. Two hundred 15-day-old female broilers were grouped into 5  groups with 4 replications as follows: Diet with 0.5% commercial feed additive (P0); 1.25% FSBL containing diet (P1); 1.25% FSBL containing diet plus 1 g turmeric powder (P2); 1.25% FSBL containing diet plus 2 g garlic (P3); 1.25% FSBL containing diet plus 1 g turmeric and 2 g garlic (P4). The results showed that the use  of turmeric or garlic to FSBL containing diet did not affect body weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, carcass weight, meat bone ratio, drip loss, and taste, odor, and texture of broiler meats (P>0.05) but affected cooking loss (P<0.05). In conclusion, the inclusion of garlic and/or turmeric to fermented Sauropus androgynus-bay leaves containing diet did not improve performance and carcass quality in broiler chickens. Any combination of medicinal plants could replace commercial feed additive.

Antibiotic Growth Promoter (AGP) synthetic as a feed additive can stimulate growth, prevent some health problems, and improve feed efficiency. However, its journey has raised concerns due to adverse effects such as residues and microbial resistance. The use of turmeric flour and betaine as feed additives is expected to substitute the use of AGP Synthetic in improving the performance of pig carcasses and the safety of consumption. This study was aimed to examine the effect of the addition of turmeric flour and different doses of betaine in the ration on the performance of finisher period pigs. The study was conducted experimentally using a completely randomized design with four treatments and five replications. The objects of the study were 20 male and female finisher Landrace pigs with a finisher period with initial body weights of 55-66 kg/head. The study rations used were R0: basal ration, R1: R0 + 0.4% turmeric flour + 0.1% betaine, R2: R0 + 0.4% turmeric flour + 0.15% betaine and R3: R0 + 0.4% turmeric flour + 0.2% betaine. The parameters measured were carcass weight, backfat thickness, and loin eye area. The addition of turmeric flour treatment did not have any significant effects on carcass weight and thickness of the back fat of the pig. The addition of 0.4% turmeric flour and 0.15% betaine in the ration was the best treatment and resulted in a different effect on the loin eye area compared to that of R0, while treatment R1 and R3 had a similar effect on it. The result of the addition of 0.4% turmeric flour and 0.15% betaine resulted in the loin eye area of the finisher pig of 53.4 cm2

ABSTRACT THE EFFECT OF VARIOUS COMMERCIAL RATIONS COMBINED WITH DIFFERENT CAGE SYSTEM ON CARCASS QUALITY OF BROILERS. The objective of this research was to determine carcass quality of broilers fed with three forms of commercial ration using 2 different cages. Total of 96 day old chicks were used in this study using four animals in each cage. Research was conducted using a completely randomized design divided into 3x2 patterns of treatment with 4 replications. Three forms of commercial ration (Factor A) consisted of A1 = Pokhpand Ration (CP 11 ); A2 = Cargill Ration (Avibro) and A3 = Sierad Ration (BSG 101). Two different cages (Factor B) consisted of B1 = Battery Cage ; B2 = Litter System. The results showed that three forms of commercial ration combined with two different cage systems give the same effect on carcass quality of broilers in terms of carcass percentage and abdominal fat weight. Litter system and animal slaughter at 6 weeks of age reduced the risk of breast blisters. Keywords: Rations, cage, broiler, carcass quality.

One hundred and ninety two sexed broiler finisher chickens were utilized in a completely randomized design to test the dietary effects of calorie: protein ratio on the performance and carcass quality of Broilers raised 10-63 days of age. Sixteen birds (8 males and 8 females) per pen and 48 per diet were Assigned at random to 12 homogenous pens, each measuring 3.5 x 1.75m? in an open sided poultry house. Feed and water were offered ad libitum. Al the end of the feeding trial, 2 birds of each sex (4 birds/pen and 12/diet), which had their weighis close to the pen average, were selected for carcass evaluation. Processed birds had their abdominal and gizzard fats recovered and weighed. Results showed that calorie: protein ratio had no significant effect on all the performance traits measured. However, statistical analysis of mean values for feed intake and feed: gain ratio was close to attaining significant level at P<0.05. Carcass traits (final body weight, fat weight, and percentage fat) were however significantly (P < 0.05) affected by calorie: protein ratio. The study gives an indication that calorie: protein ratio as wide as 178:7 can be gainfully utilized in this country for finishing broilers to market weight > 2.0kg) in 63 days.

This study evaluated the carcass quality of West African (WAD) goats fed shea butter nut meal (SBNM). In the sixteen-week nutrition trial, twenty WAD goats aged 5 - 7 months were allotted to five treatments in a completely randomized design. Four concentrate diets were compounded with the inclusion of SBNM at 0, 25, 50 and 100% graded levels. The proximate components of SBNM and the experimental diets were determined. At the end of the feedingtrial, two goats were randomly selected for slaughtering from each treatment to estimate the carcass quality. The proximate components of SBNM consist of 86.56% dry matter, 12.47% crude protein, 1.01%% crude fibre, 28.95%, 0.09% ash and 55.96% nitrogen free extract. The DM content of all the experimental diets was relatively similar in this study. The CP value of 100%SBNM was highest followed by 0%SBNM, 25%SBNM and 50%SBNM. The CF of 25%SBNM diet was higher than the other diets while the EE values were similar across all the diets. There were no significant differences among the mean of the carcass qualities of WAD goats. It could be concluded from this study that inclusion of SBNM in the diet of WAD had no deleterious effect on carcass qualities.

Carrot waste is carrots with criteria that are not suitable for human consumption. Carrot waste contains various vitamins and minerals. This study aims to evaluate the quality of broiler chicken carcass. The study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 6 replications. The treatments given included R0 = 0% additional feed from carrot waste; R1 = 0.5% additional feed waste carrots; R2 = 1% additional feed from carrot waste; R3 = 1.5% additional feed from carrot waste. The data obtained were tested for normality and homogeneity before being analyzed using the Analysis of Variants. If there is a difference then proceed with Duncan's multiple distance test. The results showed that the best results were given additional feed of carrot waste at the level of 1% to increase carcass weight and carcass percentage, carcass color would increase along with the increase in the level of carrot waste addition.

ABSTRACT CARCASS QUALITY OF BROILERS FED RATION CONTAINING WASTE OF SAWI. Study was conducted to evaluate the effect of substituting part of ration with sawi waste meal on carcass quality and abdominal fat of broilers. Total of sixty unsexed day old chick broilers of MB-202 P strain were randomly divided into twenty units of pens, each of pen was filled with three heads of chicks.  Birds were maintained during forty days. Levels of substituting part of ration with sawi waste meal were  0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 percents. Each treatment had four replications using completely randomized design with 5 x 4. Fresh water and ration were given ad libitum. Birds from day old chick to the age of twenty one days old were fed with BR-21E ration for all treatments. The treatments of ration were fed at ages of twenty two days old to the end of study (period when all animals were slaughtered). Data were analyzed using F test and Tukey test for the significant F test. Results showed that control treatments were significantly different (P<0.05) with those others four treatments for carcass weight, but not significantly different with those others four treatments for carcass percentages and abdominal fat. Therefore, sawi waste meal can be used to substitute part of ration up to 20 percents for broilers ration in term of the carcass percentages and abdominal fat.   Key words: Sawi waste meal, broilers, carcass quality.

The use of colorants in the dried noodle manufactures is an effort of product diversification. Besides of being used as a natural coloring agent, this peel extract is also used to improve nutritional value of the expected product. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of red dragon fruit peel extract on the physical quality of dried noodle.  The study was conducted by using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) method with one factor, namely concentration of red dragon fruit peel extract (N1 = 10 ml, N2 = 15 ml, N3 = 20 ml, N4 = 25 ml, N5 = 30 ml).  The observations of its physical quality consisted of water absorption, solid loss during cooking, and organoleptic tests (aroma and color).  The best quality of dried noodle was obtained by using 30 ml red dragon fruit peel extract (N5) with physical properties, namely DSA levels of 351.92%, solid loss during cooking 4.78%, aroma 3.79 (like) and color 3.89 (like).

ABSTRAK  Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian bubuk daun Moringa oleifera (MO) terhadap kuantitas dan kualitas semen sapi peranakan ongole (PO). Metode penelitian menggunakan percobaan lapang dengan rancangan acak lengkap dengan tiga perlakuan pemberian MO sebesar 0 kg/ekor/hari (P1); 0,05 kg/ekor/hari (P2) dan 0,1 kg/ekor/hari (P3). Analsis data menggunakan one way analysis of variance. Masing-masing perlakuan terdiri atas empat ekor dengan tiga periode pengamatan sebagai ulangan, yaitu periode pertama dan ketiga tanpa MO, dan periode kedua diberikan MO pada P2 dan P3. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa volume dan pH semen perlakuan P1, P2 dan P3 tidak berbeda semua periode pengamatan. Motilitas massa spermatozoa P2 dan P3 periode kedua dan ketiga menunjukan nilai +++ berbeda nyata (P<0,05) dibandingkan dengan P1 (++); motilitas individu  perlakuan P1 menunjukkan nilai terendah 60,56±2,94 % (P<0,05) dibandingkan P2 dan P3 pada periode kedua dan ketiga (75,50±2,29 dan 72,50±2,34%). Konsentrasi spermatozoa P2 dan P3 periode kedua dan ketiga menunjukkan rata-rata  >1.350 juta/ml berbeda nyata (P<0,05) daripada P1 (876±152juta/ml), sedangkan total spermatozoa motil menunjukkan nilai tertinggi 5.647±829 juta/ml pada P3 periode kedua.Viabilitas spermatozoa P2 dan P3 menunjukkan nilai >88-89 % beda nyata (P<0,05) daripada P1 (<84 %) pada periode kedua dan ketiga, sedangkan nilai abnormalitas spermatozoa yang terbaik adalah P2 sebesar 4,30% pada periode kedua dan P3 sebesar 5,33% pada periode ketiga. Disimpulkan pemberian bubuk daun MO dengan dosis 0,1 kg/ekor/hari dapat memperbaiki kuantitas dan kualitas semen (viabilitas dan total spermatozoa motil) sapi pejantan PO.Kata kunci:  kuantitas dan kualitas semen, Moringa oleifera, sapi pejantan ABSTRACTThe research aimed to determine the effect of Moringa oleifera (MO) leaf powder on the quantity and quality of semen of ongole crossbreed. The research method used was a field experiment with a completely randomized design with three treatments giving MO of 0 kg/head/day (P1); 0.05 kg/head/day (P2) and 0.1 kg/head/day (P3). Each treatment consisted of four heads with three periods of observation as replications, namely the first and third periods without MO, and the second period was given MO on P2 and P3. Data analysis used a one-way analysis of variance. The results showed that the volume and pH of semen treated P1, P2, and P3 didn’t different in all observation periods. The second and third period spermatozoa mass motility of P2 and P3 showed that the value of +++ was significantly different (P<0.05) compared to P1 (++); Individual motility of P1 treatment showed the lowest value 60,56±2,94 % (P<0.05) compared to P2 and P3 in the second and third periods (75,50±2,29 and 72,50±2,34%). The second and third periods of P2 and P3 spermatozoa concentrations showed an average of >1,350 million/cc significantly different (P<0.05) than P1 (876±152 million/cc), while the total motile spermatozoa showed the highest value of 5,647±829 million/cc in the second period P3. The spermatozoa viability of P2 and P3 showed values >88-89% significantly different (P<0.05) than P1 (<84%) in the second and third periods, while the best spermatozoa abnormalities were P2 at 4.30% in the second period and P3 at 5.33% in the third period. It was concluded that the giving of MO leaf powder at a dose of 0,1 kg/head/day could improve the quantity and quality of semen (viability and total motile spermatozoa) of Ongole Crossbreed bulls. Soybean (Glycine max (L) Merr) is needed as an alternative diversification in order to increase protein consumption. Soybean can be processed into variety of foods and drinks. The most popular drink from soybean is soya milk which is made from soybean extract yielded from the addition of water. The amount of water added determine the quality of soya milk due to its effect on the chemical and physical properties of soya milk. This research was intended to find out the proper ratio of soybean and water in the processing of soya milk to yield the best quality. A completely randomized design was used with eight treatments of soybean and water ratio as follows, ratio of 1 : 6, ratio of 1 : 8, ratio of 1 : 10, ratio of 1 : 12, ratio of 1 : 14, ratio of 1 : 16, ratio of 1 : 18 and ratio of 1 : 20. Result showed the soybean and water ratio 1 : 10 in the processing of soya milk yielded milk having good quality according to its chemical with protein content of 2.53%, fat of 1.20%, sugar total of 1.60%, pH of 7.1, and organoleptic characteristies of both somewhat sweet taste and viscous texture.
