This article aims to analyze the main character in the novel Tiba Sebelum Berangkat by Faisal Oddang using the humanistic psychology approach of Abraham Maslow. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative research method. The data source used was Tiba Sebelum Berangkat novel by Faisal Oddang. The data analysis technique in this study used the content analysis. The results of this study indicated that the main character in the novel Tiba Sebelum Berangkat by Faisal Oddang had and performed actions that can be analyzed by using Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs. This was shown by the content of the novel which presented about conflicts around human life; beliefs, religions, gender and love. Tiba Sebelum Berangkat novel tried to reflect on what might actually happen in people's real life in South Sulawesi. Based on the novel content, the main character built in the novel performed certain actions in obtaining multilevel needs that must be fulfilled as human beings. Tiba Sebelum Berangkat novel showed how humans obtained multilevel needs that must be fulfilled until human self-actualization was achieved.

This research was conducted with the aim of describing the main character's personality in the novel "Genduk" by Sundari Mardjuki (Literature Psychology Study) by using Abraham Maslow's perspective. The data in this study are derived from the novel Genduk by Sundari Mardjuki, Cetakan November 2017, the publisher of PT Gramedia Pustaka Utama, with a total of 232 pages. Data is collected by library method, see, record, and documentation. The findings of the study show that all the needs theory proposed by Abraham Maslow has been obtained by the main character. The five needs raised include physiological needs or basic needs, the need for security, needs to be owned and loved, the need for self-esteem, and the need for self-actualization. The results showed that the fulfillment of these five needs in the main character found a good personality development from the main characters, including sociability, compassion, helping, not being easily offended, never giving up in achieving desires, and wise in responding to conflicts or problems.

The purpose of this study is to find out the role of religion in Siddhartha’s self-actualization process in Hesse’s Siddhartha. The analysis applies Rogers’ humanistic psychology focusing on self-actualization. The method used was qualitative with content analysis. The data were taken from the texts contained in the novel. Data analysis used triangulation techniques. The results showed that Buddhism and Hinduism had taught various things through religious activities conducted by Siddhartha to find out his actualization.

This research aims to elaborate the The social circumstances and psychological analysis which are existing in Madame Bouvary.  Therefore, the researcher will analyze how social circumstance influences the psychological condition of Emma as the main character of this work. In order to analyze this research, the researcher utilizes the literary psychology approach  as the main theory. Besides, to strengthen the psychological analysis in this work, the researcher uses Abbraham Mashlow theory as the additional perspective. Furthermore, the researcher uses qualitative methodology both for collecting data and analyzing data. In collecting the primary data, the researcher gathers the information through the work and for collecting the supporting data, the researcher collects it from books which related to this research. The results research shows that the social circumstance in the novel has been influencing Emma’s characteristics in some particular aspects such as (1) psychological needs, (2) savety needs, (3) the love and belonging needs, (4) self estem, and (5) self actualization.

Self-actualization is term that is commonly used in psychology theories. The term can be simply translated as the full realization of someone’s potential or true self. This study was conducted to analyze the life journey of the main character of The Bell Jar in achieving herself-actualization. The purposes of this study are to describe the character of the main character in The Bell Jar and to describe the main character in achieving self-actualization and how it is portrayed in the novel. This study was done using a descriptive qualitative method and using Maslow's Hierarchy of Human Needs theory and New Criticism theory to explain the main character and her journey in achieving self-actualization in the form of words. The object of the study was the novel The Bell Jar and this study focused on Esther Greenwood as the main character.  List of an observational sheet was used as the research instrument and the data was taken through library research. The analysis was conducted by interpreting Esther’s utterances and actions using New Criticism theory to describe Esther’s characterization and Maslow’s Hierarchy of Human Needs theory to describe Esther’s self-actualization. The study results showed that Esther’s self-actualization is the results of her being able to fulfill her previous stages both directly and indirectly before reaching self-actualization stage along her life journey. The novel Anak Rantau by Ahmad Fuadi was chosen as the object of research because of the many aspects of self-actualization that are raised in the story, especially regarding the main character's struggles in facing the realities of life and its twists.. The purpose of this research was to describe and explain the process and characteristics of the main character's self-actualization in the novel Anak Rantau by Ahmad Fuadi. This study used a literary psychology approach. The psychological theory used was Abraham Maslow's self-actualization. Hepi started the process of self-actualization since he was abandoned in Tanjung Duren village by his father. Hepi fulfilled 14 traits of self-actualization. The nature of self-actualization that he has was 1) efficient observation of reality; 2) self-acceptance and others as they are; 3) spontaneity, simplicity, and reasonableness; 4) focus on the problem; 5) the need for privacy; 6) function autonomously; 7) appreciation that is always fresh; 8) social awareness/interest; 9) interpersonal relationships; 10) democratic; 11) differences between means and objectives; 12) creativity; 13) independence, and 14) peak experience.

The title of this thesis is Woman Struggle in Cahaya Cinta Pesantren Novel by Ira Madan. This study aims to analyzing how is the woman struggle for her ambition of  Marshila Silalahi  in term of hierarchy of needs that she had faced. The source of the data of the analysis is Cahaya Cinta Pesantren novel and the data are the linguistic features that are formed as sentences by the first woman main character. The writer applies the theories from Maslow (1943) about the hierarchy of needs. Based on its form, Maslow was devided the struggle into 5 stage model, they are (1) Physiological needs, (2) Safety needs, (3) Love and Belonging needs, (4) Esteem needs, (5) Self-actualization. The writer devided the data based on each types of self-actualization by Maslow in Hierarchy of needs. Struggle is related to subconscious mind phychologically, the female character is potrayed to reach her ambition with personal reasons to get something in her struggle. The sources of data of this research are any statements, dialogues and actions that prove or describe the self-actualization of a woman struggle in the novel Cahaya Cinta Pesantren (2014) by Ira Madan. Finally the struggles in each types of selfactualization can be interpreted through Marshila Silalahi sentences of the novel and it is found that hierarchy of needs reflect woman struggle.

AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan memperoleh penggambaran mendalam mengenai aktualisasi diri pada tokoh utama dalam novel Pasung Jiwa karya Okky Madasari. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan metode analisis isi dengan pendekatan struktural dan psikoanalisis sastra. Data dikumpulkan melalui studi pustaka, observasi tentang aktualisasi diri dalam novel, dan dianalisis dengan memanfaatkan ulasan novel serta wawancara. Prosedur pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan tujuh langkah, yaitu: (1) Membaca novel Pasung Jiwa. (2) Mencari fenomena menarik dalam isi cerita. (3) Menetapkan aktualisasi diri pada tokoh utama sebagai fokus penelitian. (4) Menetapkan novel Pasung Jiwa karya Okky Madasari sebagai sumber data penelitian. (5) Menetapkan analisis isi sebagai metode penelitian. (6) Menetapkan pendekatan struktural dan pendekatan psikoanalisis sastra sebagai pendekatan penelitian. (7) Melakukan studi pustaka, dan pengamatan aktualisasi diri pada tokoh utama. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Sasana (Sasa) dan Jaka Wani (Cak Jek) sebagai tokoh utama mengalami pergulatan batin dan perjuangan mencari kebebasan. Ketidakseimbangan struktur kepribadian id, ego, dan superego tokoh utama mengarahkan pada kebutuhan aktualisasi diri. Terpenuhinya aktualisasi diri pada tokoh utama karena adanya keinginan dan potensi menjadi pribadi kreatif dan bebas. Dalam penelitian ini ditemukan keenam kebutuhan yang memotivasi tokoh utama, yaitu kebutuhan fisiologis, kebutuhan akan keamanan, kebutuhan akan rasa cinta dan memiliki-dimiliki, kebutuhan akan penghargaan, kebutuhan aktualisasi diri, dan kebutuhan transendental diri. Di samping kebutuhan aktualisasi diri, ditemukan dua jenis hambatan, yaitu dari diri sendiri dan dari lingkungan. Selain itu, ditemukan pula lima belas karakteristik aktualisasi diri. Temuan penelitian direkomendasikan kepada pengajar sastra, pembaca dan pembelajar sastra, peneliti sastra, dan orang tua.Kata kunci: Novel, Tokoh Utama, Aktualisasi diri, dan Psikoanalisis. The data were collected through literature studies,data observations about self-actualization in the novel, and were checked with novelreviews as well as interviews. Data collection procedure is done with seven steps,namely: (1) Reading novel Pasung Jiwa. (2) Looking for interesting phenomena instory content. (3) Establish self-actualization on the main figure as the focus ofresearch. (4) Establish the novel Pasung Jiwa by Okky Madasari as a source ofresearch data. (5) Establish content analysis as a research method. (6) Establishing astructural approach and a literary psychoanalytic approach as a research approach.(7) conducting literature study, and self-actualization observation on the maincharacter. The results of this research indicates that Sasana (Sasa) and Jaka Wani(Cak Jek) as the main character who experienced inner struggle and struggle forfreedom. Imbalance of personality structure id, ego, and superego main characterleads to the needs of self-actualization. Fulfillment of self-actualization of the maincharacter because of the desire and potential to be creative and free person. In thisresearch found six needs that motivate the main character, the physiological needs, theneed for security, the need for a sense of love and have-owned, the need forappreciation, needs self-actualization, and transcendence needs. In addition to theneeds of self-actualization, found two types of barriers, namely from self and from theenvironment. In addition, there were also fifteen characteristics of self-actualization.Research findings are recommended to literature teachers, literary readers andlearners, literary researchers, and parents.Keywords: novel, main figure, the needs of self-actualization, and psychoanalysis

On this research, the researcher has aim to find out the main character Dewi Ayu’s human needs and identify the most dominant needs. In this study, the researcher applied the psychological approach and theory of human needs. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The writer uses a library research method to collect the data. It means that the writer visit the library and reads the novel then read several related books. The main data is novel beauty is a wound by Eka Kurniawan, while supporting data is obtained from books, articles, and the internet. The result of this study can be explained that the main character can not totally fulfill well, such as: (1) the physiological needs of the main character can be fulfilled well because she is from a wealthy family (2) the safety can not be fulfilled due to factors in that era (3) the love and belonging need can be fulfilled well because the main character has a beautiful appearance (4) the esteem needs can be fulfilled because she is a famous figure at that time (5) self-actualization needs also can be fulfilled well because the main character is a brave and is able to position herself very well. From the five hierarchy needs the most dominant need is safety needs.

The focus of this study is the authoritarianism and positive freedom on the main character in the novel Sans Famille. The theory in this study used humanistic psychology of Erich Fromm. The aim of this study is to find out and to describe the existence of the main character in the novel. Data of this study is the novel Sans Famille by Hector Malot. The method of the study is the qualitative descriptive method. Data analysis in this study in three pieces: The authoritarianism on the main character; the positive freedom on the main character, relation between of the authoritarianism and positive freedom on the main character.
