The methodological foundations of the scientific research of the famous Dagestan scholar – literary critic, academician G. G. Gamzatov are considered. It is noted that the cultural and aesthetic experience of mountaineers accumulated by generations is translated in the works of G. G. Gamzatov into theoretically based concepts that affect the processes of development of the multinational artistic system of Dagestan in the pre-October period. These concepts, based on the cyclical paradigms of humanitarian knowledge, build a sequence of semantic dominants that have ensured not only the national identity, but also the spiritual community of the Dagestan peoples.

It is well known that lexicography, this fertile ground for scientific research, owes a lot to English researchers. This is confirmed by a historical reference pointing to a specific time period (sixteenth century) when the first reference books started to appear in England, which was ahead of the rest of Europe in this aspect. In spite of this, English lexicography has become pivotal in this matter, it is clear that it has not developed the science of lexicography autonomously. For instance, Scottish lexicographers have introduced authentic and separate dictionary directions, such as glossaries of difficult and obscure Scottish words. The collective monograph Scottish in Definition. A History of Scottish Dictionaries. published in Edinburgh in 2012 and edited by I. McLeod and J. Derrick McClure was an inspiration to correct the situation. The preconditions for the emergence and continued existence of variant national lexicographies have been considered by science for many centuries. During the course of this continuous work a great number of patterns and tendencies have been described accompanying the birth of the lexicography of a particular state, and there is no doubt that all these cases were made possible only by the release of a comprehensive explanatory dictionary, responsible for the description of one particular language. Scottish lexicography plays a prominent role in recent research, as the issue of national identity is particularly relevant at present. The objective of this paper is to address the problems of authenticity of Scottish lexicography within the language system using methods of classifying the evolution stages of Scottish lexicography along with lexicographic analysis of modern Scottish dictionaries. The undertaken research shows that Scottish lexicography is a real phenomenon in British lexicography.

In the present process of the development and changing of Lithuanian identity, the preservation of national identity becomes one of the most urgent socio-pedagogical problems. Research has proved that in the process of educating of the national identity among students and values of the ethnic culture the main responsibility lies on the school, and while observing the bent for ethnic culture among students of various age, it is seen that it is desirable by the youngest. The education of national identity should be started from the first form due to the thinking about the future, strengthening generation and family relations because students who do not obtain the basics of national identity and ethnic culture at primary school in later years encounter it too late and are emotionally unprepared to receive it. Nevertheless, there is a lack of scientific research analyzing the national identity of students from primary school forms.According to this, in 2012 the research was accomplished (by using the method of in-depth interviewing), in which 35 teachers of primary forms participated.

Abstract The suddenly undecidable moment when one is both inside and outside oneself is De Quincey's recurring predicament, for whether he is on paper or on opium, there is a fundamental disappropriation which opens the intimate experience of opium onto the extimate experience of community. This essay examines the main contours of this disappropriation through an analysis of De Quincey’s deployment of musical figures and specifically the opera singer Josephina Grassini in his theorization of being-on-opium in Confessions of an English Opium-eater. Grassini’s public persona is as important as her inimitable voice to De Quincey’s explication of the effects of opium because she was quite famously Napolean’s lover. This amorous affiliation is a vital component in De Quincey’s account of opium experience because the erotic dynamics of Grassini’s performance allow us to specify the conflation of sexual and patriotic desire in De Quincey’s text. The apocalyptic form of British nationalism which is so vital to the coherence of the opium subject is inflected by a series of violent erotic fantasies crystallized around Grassini’s performances in the King’s Theatre. This essay contends that the nationalist gestures embedded in the invocation of Grassini can be elucidated by engaging with De Quincey's understanding of the relationship between tragedy, opera and community. This particular conjunction of theory and practice establishes a way of articulating the relationship between political and aesthetic experience that stays with De Quincey throughout his career. For example, his essay “Theory of Greek Tragedy.” which was published almost twenty years after the Confessions, underlines not only the analogy between tragedy and opera that animates his descriptions of the operatic scenes in the Confessions, but also the responsibility of both forms of theatre to the consolidation of the state. The ontological disturbance effected by opium is put in abeyance by an investment in sexualized phantasms of national identity that involve both a consolidation that is constantly on the verge of incoherence and a ruthless practice of othering.

Contemporary tombstone inscriptions in the Griva cemetery in Daugavpils as inspiration for a scientific research on national identityThe memorial inscriptions found in the Griva cemetery in Daugavpils [Latvia] are a valuable source for scientific research on borderland communities. As well as being a multilingual region the Daugavpils area is characterized by mixed marriages, particularly between people of Polish and Russian origin. The religion of those who have deceased is of the most lasting importance; that which is understood as passed down from generation to generation. The language used in the inscriptions is the result of a complex decision-making process. This takes into account not only religious and national identity but also the will of the deceased, their place of burial and local traditions.

The analysis of the concept of the nation, the meaning of Czech history and the concept of the newly established Czech state in the works of three important Czech sociologists – Masaryk, Chalupný and Bláha – reveals two fundamental facts. First, the requirement of political independence of the Czech nation was not only a random political initiative, but – in addition to involvement by other sciences such as history and philosophy – sociology contributed significantly to the new state’s legitimacy through its scientific methods. If Masaryk emphasizes the spiritual mission of the Czech nation in legitimizing the Czech state, the legitimacy of the Czech programme of political independence arises not only from historically philosophical and ethnographic relations, but also from anthropogeographic relations, i.e. from nature itself. In his structural-functionalist analysis, Bláha acknowledges the importance of geographical and biological factors in the formation of the nation, but for him, the nation in the Masaryk tradition is primarily a cultural and spiritual community. Whatever the factor, the fundamental benefit of these sociological analyses is that efforts to shape national identity and build an independentCzechoslovak state were significantly supported by both the theoretical development of Czech sociology and its institutionalization at the beginning of the twentieth century.
