The present research focuses on the experience of undergraduate students in a Middle Eastern college on attending guest lectures at the initial stage of preparing their dissertation. Here an attempt to apply the constructivist approach (Kirshner et al., 2006; Westwood, 2008) to teaching the subject of English Research Methods (ERM) is made by using a technique of multiple guest lecturer sessions by the department working in different areas of linguistics to familiarize the students with research interests of their tutors. This paper is an attempt to find out students' attitude to the sessions, their (sessions) benefits and drawbacks. Students’ feedback was collected at the end of each session to identify advantages/disadvantages and extent of helpfulness of the practice through a questionnaire. The data was analysed with the help of both qualitative and quantitative methods. The results of the survey demonstrated the importance of guest speaker presentations for project writing as well as their (guest speakers’) positive impact on students’ motivation. Moreover, they helped to identify both the preferred and dispreferred approaches to conducting the sessions that are related to students’ personal attributes. See the comments

The study analyzed the impact of ICT utilization on the financial performance of microfinance institutions inRwanda with case study of Réseau Interdiocesain de microfinance (RIM) Ltd undertaken within 5 years (2011-2015). The study adopted the use of descriptive survey using both qualitative and quantitative methods for a totalsample size of 132. Purporsive and simple random simpling was used for this purpose. Primary and Secondary datawere collected and thene analyzed using SPSS version 16.00. The study found that ICT has been introduced and usedabout 5 years and above. The study found that ICT impact firstly on financial sustainability and profitability (65.8%),secondly on financial efficiency and productivity (23.7) and finally on portfolio quality (5.3%). ICT utilization havea high influence to the RIM Ltd.’s financial performance compared to the previous situation.The correlation results imply that ICT usage has a positive impact on financial sustainability and profitability as theymove in the same direction (R=0.502). The strength of the impact was found to be low due to the low investments inICT among microfinance institutions.

In the past few years, shared bicycles without piles developed so fast, they also experienced problems such as unregulated bicycle parking and unrepaired damaged bicycles. This article’s study about users’ consciously participating in the reporting damaged or illegal vehicles, encourages shared bicycle users’ value co-creation behaviours, and strengthens the interaction between companies and users. This paper uses the combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to analyse the reliability and validity of the collected questionnaires, and uses the structural equation model to test the relevant hypotheses. It draws the conclusion that sense of responsibility, sense of accomplishment, expected revenue, peer acceptance, and self-efficacy have positive impacts on the value co-creation behaviour of shared bicycle users. The value creation behaviour of users has a positive impact on process satisfaction and result satisfaction.

Kintap coastal area is one of the areas that developed as a coastal fishery production.    Area-based coastal fisheries as Kintap Muara district is consisting of the main activities of fishing activity in the form of Fish Landing Base (PPI) with a variety of amenities. Coastal areas in the village of Muara Kintap pattern fisheries are people who are known to pattern  middlemen (Indonesian : penyambang) and developed since 2003. Study was conducted to see how the existence determines penyambang ships for fishing communities and the fishing estuary fishing port Kintap with : identifying the impact of fishing communities penyambang vessel catch and fishing port Muara Kintap; analyze business profits as penyambang ship; formulate strategy development as a fishing port economic zone fisheries. Technique uses qualitative and quantitative methods with a descriptive approach.The existence of the ship penyambang was a positive impact on fishermen catch. Fishermen catch will work more effectively and provide capital as a form of business development, while for the Port of Muara Kintap, penyambang ship has negatif impact on the port becauses penyambang ship can not be loading and unloading in the port. So that data from the catches of fishermen willnot be sould to penyambang as data the basis for determining the policy is difficult to know and retribution for PAD port no.  Average profit businesses penyambang vessel during fishing season is Rp. 2.773.611,00 per month while the crew (ABK) get Rp.1.386.806, 00 per month and crew still above the local minimum wage (UMR) South Kalimantan Province of  Rp. 1.337.500.00. Fishing harbor in the village of Muara Kintap, Tanah Laut District as district fisheries economy still needs a better development strategy so that the presence of the ship penyambang can contribute to Improved Income (PAD) Kintap Estuary Fishery Port.

The study analyzed the contribution of loan management on the financial performance of Umurenge Savings and Credit Cooperatives in Rwanda. The study adopted the use of descriptive survey using both qualitative and quantitative methods for a total sample size of 78 clients who have received more than two times the loan. Purposive and simple random sampling was used for this purpose. Primary and secondary data were collected and then analyzed. The study found that loan management determinants used such as membership enrolment, client appraisal, credit risk control and collection policy impact on financial performance respectively at 23,9%; 24,1%; 39,2 % ; 28,4%.Loan management practices have a high influence on the SACCO’s financial performance during the five years.The correlation results imply that suitable loan management in a saving and credit institution has a positive impact on financial sustainability and profitability and on financial efficiency and productivity as they move in the same direction (R=0.980).

Family businesses and entrepreneurship research has grown but with few studies in Africa. This case study fills that gap in the research on entrepreneurship and family business cases in the African continent. The case is explored to assess the motivation and challenges influencing entrepreneurial startup businesses and founders of family businesses. Using both qualitative and quantitative methods for data collection, the research confirms some differences and similarities in the motivational factors and challenges associated with starting a business in an African context, specifically Ghanaian. This entrepreneur's family business encountered a number of challenges in its startup. However, due to strong mental attributes such as personal motivation, persistence, commitment, and hard work, he has overcome these challenges and grown the business successfully. Although environmental challenges may be greater in an emerging economy such as Ghana, personal attributes can play a key role in building and sustaining a successful family business.

<p>Developing learning media by adjusting it to the subject materials’ characteristics and students’ development needs to be done. Based on this concern, this research is aiming at developing picture story media that is based on value clarification technique (VCT) as an alternative value education in primary school. This research employed Research and Development (R &amp; D) study approach and specifically adapted the study model from Dick and Carey (2001). Data collection was done through documentation note, observation, questionnaire, and try out. Data that had been collected then was analysed by using qualitative and quantitative methods (mix methods). Based on the try out result, it shows that the picture story media that is being developed has fulfilled the criteria of validity, effectivity, and practicality. Besides, based on the observation results of the tests’ try out process, it shows that the media has given positive impact towards the expected learning process and results.</p>

Recycling is one of the best ways to have a positive impact on the world in which we live in. In this modern hectic world of ours, people are indulging in activities which harm the environment. It is vital to educate our future generation in the preservation of our pleasant environment by not only polluting but also spreading crucial diseases. The purpose of this research is to understand the recycling practices and perceptions among rural primary school children. The sample for this study included Primary Three to Primary Six (N=16, M=11.31 years) school children with different ages and ethnic groups. The research was carried out in SJK Chung Hua Asajaya, Samarahan, Sarawak. This study used both qualitative and quantitative methods to collect the data. Face-to-face interviews guided by questionnaires as a tool determine the habits and practices on recycling activity. Findings of this study indicated that majority of the school children have good habits of recycling in both school and at home. Their perceptions indicated that they were aware on the importance of recycling in preserving the environment. This study would benefit the people in rural areas to be aware on the importance of recycling and how they can practice and improve their habits in recycling. School plays an important role in cultivating this practice. Recycling will help the town council and related institutions to giveindividuals a better quality of living.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to review the available evidence regarding the effectiveness and cost effectiveness of Recovery Colleges. To make suggestions for future research. Design/methodology/approach – Selective review of relevant published studies, including reports in the “grey” literature. Findings – Despite methodological limitations, it has been consistently found that attendance at Recovery Colleges is perceived to be useful and to help people progress towards their recovery goals. There is some evidence of reductions in service use (and therefore costs). In addition, there is evidence of beneficial effects for peer trainers and possible positive impact on staff attitudes. Research limitations/implications – The existing research highlights the need for further robust studies, using both qualitative and quantitative methods, to understand better the overall impact of Recovery Colleges and the underlying mechanisms of change. Practical implications – There is a need for further studies of the relationship between the “key defining features” and outcomes. This means the collection and pooling of systematic, “practice-based” evidence. Social implications – The introduction of an explicitly recovery educational (“learning”) model into mainstream mental health services seems to have a profound effect on reducing the power differences inherent in traditional professional/patient relationships. If this can be replicated across organisations it could facilitate the kind of fundamental cultural change necessary to give back recovery to the people who have always owned it. Originality/value – The information collected together in this paper is already publicly available, however it is difficult to find. The analysis and interpretation is original.

Little research has been conducted to develop and validate a scale to measure L2 writing strategies. The purpose of this study was to validate a writing strategy questionnaire for English as a Second language (ESL) learners. The validation process involved both qualitative and quantitative methods.  First, in the item construction stage, 30 items were constructed through a process that involved both L2 writing experts’ comments and undergraduate students’ interviews. Then, in the statistical analysis stage, the prepared thirty-item questionnaire was administered to 322 undergraduate students who were non-native speakers of English. The data was analyzed using Principal Component Analysis. The results showed that the writing strategies used by non-native learners of English cluster into five categories:  metacognitive, cognitive, metacognitive, affective effort regulation and social strategies. Limitations of the study and directions for future research are indicated.

The paper analyses benefits of combining formal, non-formal and informal learning in Computer Engineering and Information Technologies undergraduate students’ training. The results of research conducted in the 2017/2018 academic year are shown. A total of 106 students earning BA in Computer Engineering and Information Technologies at National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine volunteered to participate in the research. The aim of the research was to investigate the influence of combining formal, non-formal and informal learning on improving Computer Engineering and Information Technologies undergraduate students’ training through the increase in their general self-efficacy. To collect data from 106 computer engineering and information technologies undergraduate students we applied a mixed methods approach implying the combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. The quantitative data were collected using a pre-test and a post-test based on a questionnaire on general self-efficacy. Qualitative methods included classroom observations and interviews with computer engineering and information technologies undergraduate students. The authors compared the results obtained in the experimental and control groups and drew conclusions concerning the positive effects of combining formal, non-formal and informal learning on improving Computer Engineering and Information Technologies undergraduate students’ training through the increase in their general self-efficacy.
