The importance of the subject “Natural Science Picture of the World” is discussed for students of humanitarian faculties, the main task of which is the formation of a natural science worldview. Given the psychophysiological characteristics of humanities students, practical training methods are proposed for the successful formation of a scientific worldview. The most effective and scientifically based practical methods and approaches are given that complement the lecture course and increase the degree of students’ independent work. Using the proposed methods allows us to determine the degree of formation of general cultural competencies among students. Given the humanitarian orientation of students, it can be assumed that one of the effective methods of practical independent work is the structuring of the material studied by compiling integrative tables. Turning to integrative tables, which systematize natural science knowledge in certain sections corresponding to the material being studied, at the same time, the most famous cultural and historical events related to this period of time are given, students have an increase in the relationship between objects, complex systemic laws occur in the process of integrating knowledge. The use of integrative tables helps to form a worldview based on an understanding of the connections between nature, man, his ideas and the development of human civilization. Also, attention is paid to the specifics of laboratory work for humanities students.

Abstract With the development in France of both general and specialized museums, and the growing cultural and touristic exchanges between countries, access to their information is becoming increasingly important. The aim of a long term research project of the English Linguistics Department of the University of Franche-Comté is to translate the French labels of a classified museum (the Museum of Fine Arts and Archeology of Besançon) into English and give practical training in terminology and translation to third year English for Special Purposes students. To do this, two different bilingual lexicons have to be created: one of the repetitive terms used by the Museum to describe the exhibits, i.e. museological terms, and the other of the subject of the label, i.e. in 1993 Egyptology. The theoretical problems and practical solutions concerning the compilation of highly specific bilingual lexicons, the translation of maximum information telegraphic style texts and the choice of specialized terms to be used for a general museum public of all ages as well as the teaching outcomes of such a project are discussed.

The article presents some ideas about the practical training of future educators in the analysis of Ukrainian scholars-pedagogues whose names are known in Ukraine and abroad. The emphasis is placed on the importance of accepting some ideas as relevant to the implementation under modern conditions of the development of domestic education. It has been pointed out that there are actual I. Ogienko's ideas concerning the importance of the self-criticism of the people of science to their work, the attitude of society to the scientists' scientific work, which is not sufficiently appreciated, but is the basis of the spiritual culture. M. Pirogov's ideas about importance of university education, the formation of students' need for independent reading of scientific literature and the preparation of lectures in this way have been considered. G. Vaskovych's position on the level of training of pedagogical staff, providing them with the necessary methodical assistance, publishing periodical scientific and educational publications, which would facilitate implementing the most advanced ideas into educational practice and informing the readers about the ways of their implementation have been revealed. The analysis of a number of educational ideals by Ukrainian teacher G. Vashchenko and the vision of the importance of correct choice in the education of Ukrainian youth has been presented, because the quality of the formation of the moral qualities of young people depends on the adoption of the educational ideal. The importance of the S. Chavdarov's ideas concerning the textbook creation has been proved. In his opinion, the false practice of annual creating text-books negatively affects teaching, leads to neglecting of the theory. The author substantiates M.Gryshchenko's important views on raising the level of pedagogical preparation of students, educational work with freshmen, didactic counseling for young teachers. The attention has been paid to A. Aleksyuk's analysis of independent work of students, because, in his opinion, independence in obtaining knowledge helps to acquire skills and abilities to see the purpose and content of work, to ensure selfeducation. O. Dukhnovich's thoughts about a mentor as a person gifted with special qualities, among which is the true challenge, respect for order, and the possession of a clear way of teaching have been considered. The scientific and pedagogical staff of higher educational institutions has been oriented to enriching their experience with knowledge about the providing of training and education of future specialists with the help of the heritage of outstanding personalities of the past.

The article proposes a model for forecasting the success of student’s learning. The model is a Markov process with continuous time, such as the process of “death and reproduction”. As the parameters of the process, the intensities of the processes of obtaining and assimilating information are offered, and the intensity of the process of assimilating information takes into account the attitude of the student to the subject being studied. As a result of applying the model, it is possible for each student to determine the probability of a given formation of ownership of the material being studied in the near future. Thus, in the presence of an automated information system of the university, the implementation of the model is an element of the decision support system by all participants in the educational process. The examples given in the article are the results of an experiment conducted at the Institute of Space and Information Technologies of Siberian Federal University under conditions of blended learning, that is, under conditions when classroom work is accompanied by independent work with electronic resources.

Dealing with unexpected setbacks is one of the challenges of fieldwork, and here the author describes an encounter in which he became the subject of scandal and ostracism. Whilst such negative experiences can be unsettling, they can be put to good anthropological use and serve as a source of insight. However, it is argued that a greater element of practical training would be helpful if research students are to be equipped to think on their feet should difficulties arise.

The subject of evaluating foresight work has been around for almost as long as the professional practice itself has, but the field has done little to move closer to a systematic evaluation of its work. This special issue marks the second collection of articles on that project after a special issue of Futures in 2012 (Van Der Duin and Van Der Martin 2012). This issue takes a three-part approach: Part 1: evaluation of foresight in general and evaluation approaches and methods that can support designing an appropriate evaluation; Part 2: evaluation of foresight work in organizations and its impact on long-term thinking and decision-making; and Part 3: evaluation of specific foresight activities—an undergraduate learner foresight experience and a health sector scenario development exercise. The foreword ends with a reflection on the continuing issue of foresight and evaluation.

Potential mechanistic mediators of Darwinian fitness, such as stress hormones or sex hormones, have been the focus of many studies. An inverse relationship between fitness and stress or sex hormone concentrations has been widely assumed, although empirical evidence is scarce. Feathers gradually accumulate hormones during their growth and provide a novel way to measure hormone concentrations integrated over time. Using liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry, we measured testosterone, corticosterone and cortisol in the feathers of house sparrows ( Passer domesticus ) in a wild population which is the subject of a long-term study. Although corticosterone is considered the dominant avian glucocorticoid, we unambiguously identified cortisol in feathers. In addition, we found that feathers grown during the post-nuptial moult in autumn contained testosterone, corticosterone and cortisol levels that were significantly higher in birds that subsequently died over the following winter than in birds that survived. Thus, feather steroids are candidate prospective biomarkers to predict the future survival of individuals in the wild.
