Information technology is no longer a complement, but a necessity in the academic world especially University. The presence of students in lectures is one important component in the learning process. The more students attend the class, the more students understand the lesson. In addition, the number of student attendance can also be a consideration for the lecturer in evaluating and taking action against the student. The current student attendance record is mostly still done manually by signing on a paper. The increasing number of students from year to year in University requires a system that can manage a large number of students data and the speed in obtaining access to information requires the university to build a system that can assist in the administration process in University. Online Presence System is a solution to overcome this, with this system then the recording of student presences can be done by scanning the RFID contained in the student card, no longer done manually using paperless. This will assist lecturers and administrative staff in managing the recapitulation of student attendance and can be a consideration for lecturers in evaluating and taking action against the students concerned. In addition, this system will become a computerized data warehouse that stores the archives of student data in large numbers. This paper investigates the University of Zululand Library’s response to the university’s inclusive education agenda with respect to the accessibility of library services to students with disabilities. This was a qualitative study within the interpretive paradigm that used Michael Oliver’s social model of disability as an underpinning theory. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect data from students with disabilities and library staff. In addition, physical inspection of the library building was also conducted. Data analysis was done by thematic analysis. The study reveals that the University of Zululand Library services are not inclusive. Students with disabilities struggle to access library services. They faced such challenges as inaccessibility of library services, unavailability of resources in alternative formats and assistive technologies, and the lack of a disability policy. The study also found that the library faced the following challenges in providing services for students with disabilities: limited funding, a lack of staff awareness and training, the lack of a disability policy and a lack of collaboration. Formulating regulations to enforce the implementation of disability policy and legislation, developing institutional disability policies, and providing assistive technologies are critical in ensuring the accessibility of library services to students with disabilities at the University of Zululand. Unless students with disabilities have equal access to information, the university’s inclusive education agenda will remain a distant dream. Access to academic library services is critical to the full participation of students with disabilities in education. Likewise, inclusive university education can only be realised when students with disabilities have equal access to information. This aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals and the United Nations Convention on the Rights for Persons with Disabilities, which promote equal access to services and facilities to persons with disabilities. This paper raises awareness for both library staff and university management about the current status of library facilities and services with respect to accessibility for students with disabilities and how to address inclusiveness in library service provision.

AbstractIn this paper, language policy (LP) at the University of Salzburg (Austria), a mid-size seemingly monolingual university, serves as an example to analyse (potential) language conflicts at the institutional level considering the roles played by German, English and ‘immigrant’ languages at the university. Language management, beliefs, and (reported) language use by different stakeholders in higher education (administrators, academic and administrative staff and students) are contrasted, also taking into consideration different linguistic backgrounds (German as L1, German as L2 and German as a foreign language). This offers an overall perspective on institutional LP that is still group sensitive, one that reveals two different hidden language conflicts: the non-addressed conflict between the two most important and visible languages at the university by far, German and English, as well as the neglected and negated conflict between German and the hidden “immigrant” languages. A consistent ‘internationalisation at home’ strategy would address these hidden conflicts and show backwash effects on ideas of language use in education as well as in society in general.

Sustainability has to penetrate more and more into higher education. It should not focus only on traditional elements. It should also enter new, but for future improvement, extremely important areas. Based on this premise, creativity and motivation, when additionally interconnected and supported by trust that is provided and achieved, decide on the progress and sustainability of universities. This connection is gaining importance especially from the point of view of building solid foundations and mechanisms that functionally preserve the potential effects of these elements in the future. For this reason and following the nature, importance, and content of sustainable academic motivation (SAM), the paper introduces two new concepts: sustainable academic creativity (SAC) and sustainable academic trust (SAT). For further original contributions, the paper hypothesizes the existence of mutual—spiral—relations of sustainable academic motivation (SAM), sustainable academic creativity (SAC), and sustainable academic trust (SAT). The empirical section tests the validity of this claim in the universities of two countries: the Slovak Republic and Poland. A survey performed on a sample of n=181 pedagogical, scientific, management, and administrative staff in higher education confirms the existence of these spirals. The results indicate the spiral effect of motivation when connected with creativity and trust and show that it is accented by the crucial principles of sustainability (responsibility, novelty, usefulness, progress, etc.). Therefore, the paper’s conclusion contains the explanations for the potential occurrence of three types of sustainably mutual systems and complexes. These are: (a) individual sustainable systems of SAM, SAC, and SAT; (b) group/sectional sustainable systems of SAM, SAC, and SAT; and (c) the global sustainable complex of SAM, SAC, and SAT in the university.

Abstract Coronavirus disease 2019, first reported in China in late 2019, has quickly spread across the world. The outbreak was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization on March 11, 2020. Here, we describe our initial efforts at the University of Florida Health for processing of large numbers of tests, streamlining data collection, and reporting data for optimizing testing capabilities and superior clinical management. Specifically, we discuss clinical and pathology informatics workflows and informatics instruments which we designed to meet the unique challenges of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) testing. We hope these results benefit institutions preparing to implement SARS-CoV-2 testing.

This paper reports on work carried out in the School of Management at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh. Following a wide-ranging review of the first-year management programme, a module on enterprise was introduced. As part of that module students had to compete in a game, the object of which was to come up with a business idea, conduct market research and present a business plan and proposal to a panel of judges. The number of students was 225 in year one but reached around 500 within five years. The module has generated many good ideas and has attracted sponsorship from commercial sources. As yet the university has been unable to take the ideas further. It is possible that enterprise can be learned by people in large numbers, but perhaps universities are not the places in which to attempt such work.

A 10-year-old girl with a 1-year history of lower genitourinary tract symptoms suggestive of bacterial infection but with numerous negative urine cultures was referred to the University of Alabama urology clinic after empirical treatment with multiple antibiotics failed to resolve her symptoms. An extensive urologic evaluation revealed no structural or physiologic abnormalities, but an exudative vaginitis was noted and large numbers of Ureaplasma urealyticum and Mycoplasma hominis were isolated from the lower genital tract. Cultures for Chlamydia, viruses, and routine bacterial pathogens were negative. After initiation of tetracycline therapy, symptoms resolved and subsequent cultures for mycoplasmas were negative. In addition, a seroconversion was noted for M hominis but not for U urealyticum. Chlamydia serology was negative. It was later learned that the patient had been sexually molested just prior to the onset of symptoms. This case illustrates the necessity of early consideration of a mycoplasmal etiology in the patient with persistent genitourinary symptoms and no obvious bacterial pathogen, or in the patient whose condition is refractory to routine antibiotic therapy.

<p>This study seeks to shed light on the phenomenon of job burnout, and its prevalence amongst the staff and seeks to address the issue of the level of job satisfaction in Jordanian universities, together with the examination of the effect of job burnout on job satisfaction. The study adopted a descriptive analytical approach through a comparative study between public universities and private universities, and used the questionnaire as basic tool for data collection, which was distributed to a sample of (200) members of the administrative staff in Jordanian public and private universities. The study found that the degree of job burnout experienced by the administrative staff in the university sector was more than average, Showed that low personal performance dimension has ranked the first as the most persistent job burnout dimension then physical and emotional exhaustion then negative attitude towards relationships. It observed that the degree of job burnout in public universities was greater than in the private universities. The level of staff job satisfaction in the public universities was less than that observed in private universities. The study showed that no dimension of job morally affects on employees satisfaction in public universities. while only one dimension (low personal achievement) affects employees satisfaction in private universities.</p>

Данная статья посвящена исследованию систем дистанционного обучения в вузах Чувашской Республики, определению основных функций систем управления дистанционным обучением. Проведен анализ систем дистанционного взаимодействия со студентами в федеральных вузах Чувашской Республики. С целью формирования требований к функциям современной единой универсальной платформы дистанционного взаимодействия в университете проведен анализ корпоративной платформы, объединяющей в рабочем пространстве чат, встречи, заметки и вложения MS Teams, позволяющей организовывать дистанционное обучение. На примере веб-ресурсов для поддержки организации дистанционного обучения государственных университетов Чувашской Республики, таких как система управления курсами, использующая лицензию GNU GPL Moodle, системы видеоконференций Big Blue Button, рассматриваются их функциональные возможности и недостатки, выявляются ключевые особенности построения единого информационного пространства вуза на основе идеи использования инструментов образовательных платформ в обеспечении электронной поддержки дистанционного обучения. Представлены преимущества интеграции систем LMS Moodle и MS Teams для построения интерактивного формата обучения на примере построения единой образовательной среды в ЧГПУ им. И. Я. Яковлева. Рассмотрено внедрение единой учетной записи для организации принципа единой точки доступа к информационным системам дистанционного обучения для построения единой электронной образовательной среды университета на базе технологии OpenID Connect. This article is devoted to the study of distance learning systems in universities of the Chuvash Republic, the definition of the main functions of distance learning systems. It presents the analysis of systems of distance learning interaction with students in federal universities of the Chuvash Republic. In order to form the requirements for the functions of a modern unified universal platform for distance learning interaction at the university, the authors analysed the corporate platform that combines chat, meetings, notes and attachments of MS Teams in the workspace. Using the example of web resources to support the organization of distance learning of state universities of the Chuvash Republic, such as the course management system using the GNU GPL Moodle license, the Big Blue Button video conferencing systems, their functionality and shortcomings are considered, the key features of building a unified information space of the university based on the idea of using the tools of educational platforms in providing electronic support for distance learning are identified. The advantages of integrating the LMS Moodle and MS Teams systems for building an interactive learning format are presented on the example of building a unified educational environment at I. Yakovlev CHSPU. The introduction of a single account for the organization of a single point of access to information systems of distance learning for the construction of a single electronic educational environment of the university based on OpenID Connect technology is considered.

<p>Research on how to counter phishing from a user behavior perspective has been explored for over a decade, yet the prevalence of such threats is increasing. This thesis aims to provide a modern perspective by considering if there is a difference in how susceptible an individual is on a mobile device versus a desktop email client. Currently very few studies consider phishing on mobile devices and the research is unclear as to the potential difference in susceptibility rates between the two device types. Initially a review of 60 phishing emails received by the university that had passed mail filtering were used to assist in the design of the messages to be used in the second stage of the study. Following this a simulated phishing attack on two groups in one unit of professional administrative staff in the university (141 in total with 71 in Group A and 70 in Group B) within the university was undertaken. The defining characteristic between the groups was how they responded to a message with a ‘loss versus gain’ appeal. This area has received limited exploration in the research and findings remain unclear. This study found that people were statistically far more susceptible to the ‘gain’ message of a free coffee at 28.2% than the ‘loss’ message of Office365 account suspension 7.1% . For device type there appears to be no statistically significant difference, even between the groups. This study highlights the complexities of device usage around phishing, that have not been clearly highlighted in previous studies, such as people viewing emails with one device and falling victim on another device.</p>
